Terrorist Responsible for Killing 3 Policemen Apprehended in Pakistan's Punjab Province

Terrorist Responsible for Killing 3 Policemen Apprehended in Pakistan's Punjab Province Pakistani law enforcement agencies have arrested a TTP terrorist for killing three policemen in Punjab province, police said on Friday. During the last week, three policemen were gunned down by unidentified shooters in Lahore and the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had taken responsibility for the attacks. According to Lahore police, the prime suspect in the killing of three policemen has been arrested in Lahore's posh Defence area. The suspect is identified as Abdullah Jan alias Usman Khorasani. Usman was a part of the Khorasani Group of the TTP. Police said that Khorasani had planned to target more policemen. In a statement issued on social media with the title Khoon Ka Badla Khoon (blood for blood), the Khorasani network of the TTP claimed responsibility for the attacks on policemen in Lahore, saying the three policemen were killed by the firing of Mujahidin (freedom fighters). The Khorasani Group was formed by Abdul Wali, known as Omar Khalid Khorasani. He was considered close to Osama Bin Laden and al-Zawahiri of al-Qaeda. The group carried out some of the deadliest attacks in Pakistan, including a bombing in Lahore in 2016 that killed at least 75 people from the Christian community on Easter Sunday. Khorasani later dissolved Jamaatul Ahrar and rejoined the TTP in the groups drive to reunify several estranged groups. He was killed in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan in 2022.

SC stays Punjab & Haryana HC order on reopening of road outside CM Manns house

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed an order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to open the road outside the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to public, after taking into record the Advocate General (AG) of Punjab's submission thatin recent years unfortunately, there was resurgence of terrorism and grenades being thrown at the intelligence building. A two-judge Bench of the top court, led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta, issued notice to the Union Territory of Chandigarh and stayed the High Court's direction to open the road on trial basis. It is to be noted that recently, on April 27, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had in its order directed the Chandigarh administration to formulate a plan to ease the traffic congestion by opening the 500-metre road in front of the Chief Ministers residence on an experimental basis from May 1. The High Court had ordered the opening of the said a 500-metre stretch outside the Chief Minister residence, on a trial basis from May 1 from 7 am and 7 pm on all working days. The Punjab and Chandigarh administration had opposed the HC order and moved the SC seeking a stay on it. While staying the HC order, the Apex court, observed, nobody wants anything untoward to happen. Issue notice. Direction on opening road on trial basis is stayed till further orders but the writ petition proceedings before the High Court can continue. The AG, seeking immediate stay of the HC order, took the example of the alleged killing of popular Punjabi singer, Sidhu Moosewala, and said that he was allegedly killed right soon after his security was withdrawn. The Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Chandigarh administration, told the apex court that he move (HC order) could have grave implications on someone's life. This is playing with somebody's life. It is significant to note that in 1980s, due to the insurgency and the number of increased terrorism cases and attack, the said road in front of Chief Ministers residence was closed.

IPL 2024: Didn't Want To Waste The Opportunity Given By Team Management, Says Nitish Reddy

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium: Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made an outstanding 42-ball 76 not out for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in securing a thrilling one-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2024, said this year, the team management gave him a chance to be in the playing eleven, an opportunity he never wanted to throw away. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday evening, Reddy dazzled by hitting three fours and eight sixes in what is also his highest T20 knock, with some of his maximums hit straight down the ground and over cover enthralling the home fans. I would say Im a genuine all-rounder who can bowl, who can bat, who can field as well. So, Im looking forward to the all-round performance. I was waiting for this batting opportunity actually from last year. This year the team management gave me a chance and I dont want to throw it away, he said in the post-match press conference. Reflecting on his role in the SRH middle-order, Reddy said, From the last two matches, it has been like this. My role is to carry until the 14th or 13th over to give Heinrich Klaasen a license to bang. So there is no point if Klaasen and Samad get to bat in the early overs; they cant score freely. I just wanted to make sure that I am not going to feel the pressure. I just want to build the innings like I did against Punjab and plan to attack one over and change the momentum. Thats exactly what happened when I saw (Yuzvendra) Chahal coming on to bowl. I was backing myself that I have to go after him (in the 14th over) and that went pretty well (by taking 21 runs off him). Beating Royals, who are at the top of the table, will actually boost the team morale, he said. Reddy also revealed the SRH think-tank had the belief in veteran fast-bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulling off a win for them by defending 12 runs in the final over. See, T20 is all about changing the momentum. So, we actually believed that somehow we will take one or two wickets which we got of the well-set Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag. When he (Bhuvneshwar) was in prime time, he used to do these things like pulling up these matches. Even if we lost, we would have been happy even if we had lost the match, because we played well against a good side and took the match to the last ball. So, we are happy to be on the winning side, he concluded.

Concerned about pacer Deepaks injury: Fleming

CHENNAI: Even as Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets to get to eight points, the home teams position in the points table hasnt changed. Super Kings are still in the top four (it could change if Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals), but they have bigger things to worry about after the loss against Punjab. While dew factor once again played its part as Chennai tried to defend 162 on a humid evening at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, what also dented CSK hopes of a win was Deepak Chahar walking off after just bowling two balls. Plus the absence of Matheesha Pathirana due to a niggle and Tushar Deshpande due to a flu. Although Richard Gleeson had a good debut, CSK bowling has a lot to worry about. Chahar doesnt look good. The initial feeling wasnt good, now were hoping for positive news when the physio and doctor have a look. Sri Lankan boys (Theekshana, Pathirana) are off for their visas, were hoping that their process is smooth and we get them back for the next game up north. Gleeson was good, and was one of the positives. Losing Mustafizur (after the next game) is a blow, there is a lot going on, isnt it? Tushar has got a bit of flu going on, so we missed him on Wednesday. So we had to make some changes, but thats part of it. We have got resources, they just havent got game time to be comfortable with their roles, Fleming said after the loss. One of the talking points of the game was the shuffle in the CSK batting order with Shivam Dube coming in at No 3 and Ravindra Jadeja at No 4. Dube was a big part of that (six-hitting) and losing him today with their spinners was a great wicket for them (Punjab). In terms of a left-arm spinner and a leg-spinner, it was a great matchup for Dube. We have seen him do really well this season but they won that one nicely and that then created pressure on our ability to continue to hit sixes and it was tough. Another thing is that it is a biggish ground, so if there is any kind of assistance, its hard square-wise to get boundaries. And they bowled well, they protected it well. Made it difficult for us, pointed out the former New Zealand captain. We have spoken about the unpredictability of wickets (at Chepauk). Today the first ball bounced and hit Jinks (Rahane) in the helmet. Just trying to get a gauge on how it will play. Unfortunately were batting first a lot, which makes it difficult to gauge what a competitive score is. We got a couple of 200s, so that was on the mind today but it was a bit sticky. What was a good start in the first six overs then became difficult. We tried with the lefties, obviously Dube and then Jadeja was also an aggressive role which didnt work, and Sameer Rizvi as well. We just couldnt get anything through the middle, he added.

Assam topped with a growth rate of 25 per cent, followed by Bihar (23 per cent), Punjab and Haryana (21 per cent) and Uttar Pradesh (19 per cent). GST officials attributed the highest ever collection of tax to the growth in compliances and both domestic and interstate transactions besides the mining revenue. Kerala: Climate change reality gets heatwave check

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Valerian Isaac, a traditional fisherman from Anchuthengu in Thiruvananthapuram, is deeply concerned about the impact of climate change on his livelihood and the overall quality of life. He used to enjoy his summer with the sea cooling down when folks in the town sweltered in the heat. The situation however has changed dramatically. The sea has warmed up significantly. Consequently, the fish have migrated to cooler waters away from the coast. Previously, we relied on good winds and occasional rains to alleviate the heat. But this summer has proven to be the toughest yet, Isaac said. With the dwindling catch, only a handful of fishermen dare to venture out into the sea in his area. And they are not the only ones suffering. Adverse weather has also affected autorickshaw drivers, tour operators, vegetable vendors and those in the construction sector. As the government considers imposing further restrictions on operations between 11am and 3pm, the livelihoods of even more sectors hang in the balance. Isaac, like many others, had not heard of the term El Nino, a climate phenomenon responsible for warming the sea surface temperature in the Pacific Ocean and often cited as a primary cause of harsh summers. However, he, along with the rest of the populace, has become acquainted with the term heatwave in recent times. Its sudden appearance in the vocabulary coincided with its confirmation in Palakkad on April 26, the day of the general elections. Such weather was once considered unusual, mostly associated with the traditional hot regions of the country. The India Meteorological Department first issued a heatwave alert in Kerala in 2016, the warmest year on record for the state, primarily focused on Palakkad. This year, the focus has again been on Palakkad which experienced scorching temperatures throughout April, with Thrissur following suit. Subsequently, heatwave alerts were issued for Kollam, Kozhikode and Alappuzha, as temperatures in these districts deviated from the norm significantly. A majority of those belonging to the fishing community in Perumathura in Thiruvananthapuram are spending their time under the shade of coconut palms. The reason being the roofs of their homes are made of asbestos and tin sheets, which increase the heat Weather experts assert the situation is similar across south and east India. An Asia-wide heatwave map published by international weather agencies depicts most countries in the region coloured in red. The temperature rise is attributed to global warming induced by climate change. The impact of El Nino exacerbates the situation, said D Sivananda Pai, senior scientist and ADGM of India Meteorological Department. According to him, the dry weather in Kerala has increased the temperature. In Palakkad, the relative humidity is now in the 30-40% range in comparison to the normal 60-80%. Thats why the temperature remains high. The condition is worse for people living in more humid areas as high moisture content does not help reduce body temperature, he said. Like this year, 2016 too was an El Nino year. While it was the warmest year in recent history, the damage, technically, was limited to a heatwave alert in Palakkad. What makes the conditions worse than 2016 is the absence of summer rain, especially in the northern districts, and the land use and land cover changes because of urbanisation, said Rajeevan Erikkulam, a meteorologist with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority. Weather experts pointed out the situation is likely to improve by the second week of May when summer rains are expected to be more regular. The El Nino effect is expected to be neutral during the time of monsoon, but the experts have a warning the next El Nino year could be much worse than 2024. What is heatwave? Qualitatively, heatwave is a condition of air temperature that becomes fatal to human body when exposed. Quantitatively, it is defined based on the temperature thresholds over a region in terms of actual temperature or its departure from normal. Criterion for declaring heatwave Heatwave is considered to be in effect if the maximum temperature of a station reaches at least 40Celsius or more in the plains, at least 30Celsius or more in hilly regions, and 37 Celsius or more in coastal regions. The departure from normal is 4.5 to 6.4Celsius. If the above criteria is met in at least two stations in a meteorological sub-division for at least two consecutive days, a heatwave is declared on the second day. A woman carrying a pedestal fan on a two-wheeler in Kochi. With mercury level going up, residents are opting for various methods to beat the scorching heat Heatwave prone states Heatwave generally occurs over the plains of northwest India and central, east and north peninsular India from March to June. It covers Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Sometimes, it occurs over Tamil Nadu and Kerala too. AAP Hosts Events and Launches Signature Campaign against CM's Arrest in Support of India Nominees

AAP Hosts Events and Launches Signature Campaign against CM's Arrest in Support of India Nominees The AAP on Thursday held several public meetings across Delhi, urging the people to vote for the INDIA bloc candidates in the May 25 Lok Sabha polls in the city and launched a signature campaign against the arrest of party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Two whiteboards were put up at Lajpat Nagar for the people to write their messages for Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal who is lodged in Tihar Jail till May 7. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. AAP Jangpura MLA Praveen Kumar said the signature campaign will be conducted in different parts of the city to show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the people of Delhi love their chief minister. ''We have started this campaign from here and will take it to different areas. We will collect these signatures and send them to BJP to show how much the people of Delhi love Kejriwal,'' Kumar said. Slogans of 'Jail ka jawab vote se denge' and 'Arvind Kejriwal zindabad' were also raised by the party workers at the event. ''The people of Delhi are extremely angry at the way CM Kejriwal was put in jail. They will revert with their votes against dictatorship and his arrest,'' AAP East Delhi Lok Sabha candidate Kuldeep Kumar said. The AAP and the Congress -- constituents of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) -- are fighting the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi together. The Congress has fielded candidates from three of the seven seats. The AAP is contesting the remaining four. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a Sankalp Sabha under their 'Jail ka jawab vote se campaign in Mehrauli which comes under the South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The Sankalp Sabha was led by senior AAP leader and Cabinet Minister Kailash Gahlot. ''We all have to fight this election together. Today the opposition is being eliminated across the country. Governments are being toppled all over the country,'' he said. Former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren was arrested and so was Kejriwal, he said. ''Whoever raises their voice against the BJP is picked up by the ED, CBI. If we want to save our rights, we will have to fight,'' he said. At a public meeting in the New Delhi constituency for party candidate Somnath Bharti, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh appealed to the people to remember the work done by the Kejriwal government in the last nine years. ''Apart from Delhi and Punjab, electricity, water, education, health, women's bus travel, travel of elderly people is not free in any other state,'' he said. Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi held a Sankalp Sabha in Madanpur Khadar in support of Kuldeep Kumar, the INDIA bloc candidate from East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Atishi said the election this time is very important. ''Because we vote once in five years and the decision of this vote lasts for five years. In such a situation, when we go to vote, we should vote wisely,'' she said. She said in the 2014 elections, people across the country voted for the BJP with great expectations. People thought that maybe their lives would improve, their children would get a good education, and inflation would reduce, but 10 years have passed ''and all their (BJP) talks proved to be bogus''. ''PM Modi did not reduce inflation or unemployment in 10 years, but CM Kejriwal gave free electricity, free water, free health facilities, Mohalla Clinics, built excellent schools and hospitals, provided free world-class education, free bus travel to women, and fulfilled the dreams of the elderly by providing them free pilgrimage tours,'' she said. Atishi claimed that even after ''repeated conspiracies'' of the BJP, the AAP government did not stop working for Delhiites. ''Everyone knows that there has been a significant improvement in the lives of the people of Delhi and the only person responsible for it is Arvind Kejriwal. ''This is the reason why the BJP is jealous of Arvind Kejriwal because he fulfils his promises. Hence, immediately after the announcement of elections, he was put in jail by the BJP-led central government on false charges,'' she said. The senior AAP leader said that the BJP is under the illusion that Kejriwal is just an ordinary man. ''The BJP doesn't know that if it has put one Kejriwal in jail, thousands of Kejriwals have come out on the streets of Delhi to change the lives of Delhiites,'' she said.

Salman Khan Accused Dies in Firing Incident; Post-Mortem and Judicial Inquiry Underway

Salman Khan Accused Dies in Firing Incident; Post-Mortem and Judicial Inquiry Underway A magisterial probe began on Thursday in the alleged suicide of an accused in the firing incident outside actor Salman Khan's house in Mumbai's Bandra area on April 14. Anuj Thapan, who was held from Punjab for allegedly supplying firearms and bullets to the arrested shooters, was found hanging on Wednesday inside the toilet of Mumbai Crime Branch's lock-up located in the commissionerate complex. The probe initiated by the judicial magistrate is being carried out under section 176 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and all related documents have been submitted, a police official said. Meanwhile, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) has collected DVR of the CCTVs installed in the lock-up as part of its probe, he added. ''They will submit their findings on the footage, chain of events as well as lapses, if any, on the part of the policemen posted at the lock-up. There were four personnel on guard duty at the time of the suicide,'' he said. Earlier in the day, post mortem was conducted on Thapan's body at state-run JJ hospital in Byculla. ''The post-mortem was videographed and was done in the presence of forensic doctors. It started at 4.15 pm and was completed around 5.15 pm. The body has been kept in the morgue. The findings of the autopsy are yet to be disclosed,'' he added. The post mortem got delayed by several hours due to police and legal formalities, another official said. Thapan is among the six persons named in the firing incident FIR. While four of them have been arrested, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, currently lodged in a jail in neighbouring Gujarat, and his brother Anmol Bishnoi have been shown as wanted accused. Officials said Thapan's kin were on their way to Mumbai. Thapan and Sonu Kumar Bishnoi (32) were arrested by a crime branch team from Fazilka in Punjab on April 26. The two had allegedly supplied weapons to shooters Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta for firing at Salman Khan's residence. As per the police, Thapan and Sonu Bishnoi visited Panvel near Mumbai on March 15 to deliver two country-made pistols and 38 live rounds to Pal and Gupta. Thapan and Sonu's village in Punjab is very close to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's village.

Soaring temperatures scorch Eastern and Southern India: Nandyal records sweltering 46.2 degrees Celsius

Soaring temperatures scorch Eastern and Southern India: Nandyal records sweltering 46.2 degrees Celsius Intense heat swept through east India and parts of the southern peninsular region on Thursday, testing power grids and prompting the Kerala government to order closure of educational institutions till May 6. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said heat wave to severe heat wave conditions scorched parts of West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. At least 17 places in these states recorded temperatures above the 44-degree Celsius mark. The mercury settled at 46.2 degrees Celsius at Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, 45.3 degrees at Palwancha in Telangana, 44.3 degrees at Karur Paramathi in Tamil Nadu, 45 degrees at Bolangir in Odisha, and 44.3 degrees at Kalaikunda in West Bengal. As Kerala continued to reel under punishing heat, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the closure of educational institutions in the state until May 6. The IMD said the ongoing heat wave spell in east and south peninsular India will continue till May 3 and abate thereafter. The Met office on Wednesday said above normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country in May and a significantly high number of heat wave days expected over the northern plains, central region, and adjoining areas of peninsular India. April saw record-smashing maximum temperatures in east, northeast, and southern peninsular India prompting health warnings from government agencies and some states to suspend in-person classes in schools. A number of stations recorded their highest ever April day temperature. Five active Western Disturbances led to rain, thunderstorm, and hail storms over north and central India at regular intervals in April, preventing heat waves. IMD data shows that heat waves in April this year were far worse than in 2023, the warmest year on record so far. This trend is likely to continue in May, with around eight to 11 heat wave days predicted over south Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Gujarat regions. The remaining parts of Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and some parts of Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, north interior Karnataka, and Telangana may record five to seven heat wave days in the month. Normally, the northern plains, central India, and adjoining areas of peninsular India experience around three days of heat waves in May. India saw two spells of heat waves in April from April 5 to 7 and April 15 to 30. The IMD attributes the prolonged heat wave spell over east, northeast, and south peninsular India in April to the absence of thunderstorms and an anticyclone at lower levels over the west central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining eastern coasts of India. This caused the sea breeze to cut off over Odisha and West Bengal on most days. The weather office said south peninsular India recorded an average maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius in April, which was the second-highest since 1901. The mean temperature (28.12 degrees Celsius) in April in east and northeast India was the highest since 1901, it said. The IMD said above normal maximum temperatures have become frequent over south peninsular India since 1980s. The region recorded 12.6 mm of rainfall in April, which was the fifth lowest since 1901 and the second lowest since 2001. According to IMD data, the number of heat wave days this April was the highest in 15 years in Gangetic West Bengal and nine years in Odisha. Odisha also experienced the longest heat wave spell (16 days) in April since 2016. Amid the prevailing but weakening El Nino conditions, the IMD had earlier warned of extreme heat during the April-June period, coinciding with the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections. Hundreds of thousands of voters had to cope with the searing heat when they stepped out to exercise their franchise in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. Polling for 94 constituencies across 12 states will take place on May 7. The weather office had earlier expected four to eight heat wave days in different parts of the country in April against a normal of one to three days. Ten to 20 heat wave days are expected against a normal of four to eight in the entire April-June period.

With emphasis on run-control over wicket-taking, Rahul Chahar tries to adapt in the age of big hitters

CHENNAI: Much like it has been for his team, it has been a roller-coaster of an IPL season for Punjab Kings spinner Rahul Chahar. While the team is placed seventh in the table with four wins in ten matches, Rahul played in only four of them. He started off the season with a 1/33 against Delhi Capitals, but the next two games did not go well. He bowled just four overs across two games and went for 58 runs before missing out on the next few games. Chahar eventually came back against Kolkata Knight Riders where Kings completed the highest successful chase and had good returns 1/33 in four overs at 8.25 economy. It only got better when he returned to MA Chidambaram Stadium, one of his favourite venues, to go up against Chennai Super Kings. With the happy memories of 2023 and 2019 at the venue, Chahar continued to thrive on a red soil pitch 2/16 in four overs, including an over to MS Dhoni in the death as Kings got the better of the Super Kings once again in Chennai. The icing on the cake was the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali, as his partner-in-crime Harpreet Brar (2/17) sent back spin basher Shivam Dube for a first-ball duck. While Chahar and Brar accounted for four CSK wickets on Wednesday, the significant aspect of their spell was that they did not concede a single boundary in eight overs. And that is perhaps the most rewarding thing for Chahar to be economical and not go for runs and understandably so. This IPL season has been titled in the favour of batters and with the Impact Player rule coming in, there has been little to no inhibition from the batters to hit sixes. The record-breaking totals posted in the ongoing seasons sum the effect it has had on the bowlers. As a spinner, Chahar, who is not a big fan of the Impact Player rule, is trying to find his own way to make an impact. For him, the focus has shifted to being economical than going for wickets. The way things are going it looks very difficult for bowlers. I think these days, more than wicket taking, bowlers who can be economical are more valuable. And that is what I am focusing on, my strength is my economy, Chahar tells this daily. Sarada and Sajana Sajeevan: Like mother, like daughter Chahar is not alone in thinking this way. Rajasthan Royals and India spinner R Ashwin had spoken along similar lines on his YouTube channel. Sometimes even when you bowl well, you go for 40 runs. Many teams these days use AI and technology and what's emerged out of those is that wicket-taking is becoming irrelevant in T20 cricket. If you look at this IPL wicket-taking is sometimes hampering certain teams, Ashwin had said. Punjab Kings fast bowling coach Charl Langeveldt, meanwhile, said that trying to be economical might look defensive, but that is not necessarily the case. When you are playing high-scoring games, your defensive plan is your wicket-taking option. So being able to be defensive might sound negative but I feel like it gives you the opportunity to create wickets. So I always say if you are bowling economically you are creating opportunities, he had said ahead of the match in Chennai. How do you do it? You do it by not bowling keeping the batter guessing and not bowling in the same areas. As a spinner, you should keep varying your things. You cannot bowl six balls in one place. You have to play with batters' minds, varying the line and length. And I think that is the way you can go because you cannot be one-dimensional. You also have to think what the batter is about to do, who he is batting with, whether he is stepping out or trying to reverse sweep because spinner cannot do the things a fast bowler can - bouncer, yorker and all that - you have to keep the other things in mind, Chahar said. I think we are mature enough and have played a lot cricket on different kinds of wicket so we are used to change based on conditions. It is not very difficult you just have to prepare one day before, like for example today (Tuesday) I am going for practice I will bowl like I am bowling to Shivam Dube or Ruturaj Gaikwad. I think like that and practice like that. Whatever he tried to practice on Tuesday worked out well for Chahar and the Kings. And they would be hoping that it continues over the next four games as well.

IPL 2024: 'Doesn't Look Good; Hoping For A More Positive Report' Says Fleming On Chahars Injury

Chennai Super Kings: Stephen Fleming, the head coach of Chennai Super Kings, has said fast-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahars hamstring injury doesnt look good as the early signs to its extent werent great. Chahar, who previously missed two matches in the IPL 2024 season due to a niggle, hobbled off the field after bowling just two deliveries, and never return to the field for the remainder of the game. It meant CSK became a bowler short in dewy conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, where Punjab Kings outclassed them by seven wickets. The travelogue is pretty busy. There's a lot of ins and outs. So, Deepak Chahar doesn't look good. The initial feeling wasn't great. So, I'm hoping for a more positive report when the physio and the doctor have a look, said Fleming in a post-match press conference. Ahead of their reverse fixture against PBKS in Dharamsala on May 5, CSK look messed up in their fast-bowling stocks. Apart from Chahars injury, Sri Lanka duo of Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana are flying out to Colombo for visa work ahead of the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. Tushar Deshpande missed Wednesdays match due to flu, while Mustafizur Rahman has completed his IPL 2024 commitments and will link up with the Bangladesh team ahead of their home T20I series against Zimbabwe. The Sri Lankan boys are off to get their visas. We're hoping that their process is smooth and we get them back for the next game up north. Richard Gleeson was good and it was a positive. Losing Fizz (Rahman) is disappointing, there's a lot happening isn't it? Tushar has a bit of flu going around as well. So, we've had to make a few changes, which is unusual. Again, that's part of it and again we have got the resources. Just they haven't had the game time to be really comfortable with their roles and us to be comfortable with a game plan, which we're struggling with a little, added Fleming. Against PBKS, CSK promoted Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, to number three and four respectively in a bid to counter the spinners. But the duo failed to leave a mark, as CSK were unable to hit a boundary in the middle-overs. Moreover, Sameer Rizvi was introduced as an impact player, but hit a laborious 21 off 23 balls and Daryl Mitchell, who got a fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad at number three, was demoted to number eight, leaving fans baffled. The Dube factor is the one (the reason behind the batting reshuffle). So, if you get to six overs, that's the perfect time for him to come in. The next thing is with left-right (combination), we want Jadeja, who has got a positive role as well, to come in and take them (the spinners) on as well, but they bowled well. The Rizvi one, we will discuss a little bit more, may go the other way around with that one but again he's positive and his ability to hit sixes in training has certainly been good. But there's a temperament part of that as well that young players need to learn. So, we have got a bit of information from that. The casualty was Mitchell going down the order. What we learnt from the first part of the tournament was if it goes too low, there are other players - Moeen Ali and MS (Dhoni) - who can push the game along. So, the window closes there but it was very much getting the tactics right for what we wanted to do in the middle and that was to break their spinners up but they won that competition, elaborated Fleming. He signed off by defending an out-of-sorts Ajinkya Rahane, who was conservative to begin in power-play and has struggled to get a move on in the entire competition. I thought he (Rahane) was good and has been probably a bit too aggressive in what he wants to do. Keep in mind, we're batting on wickets here that we don't know how they are gonna play. So, we got to take a bit of a pause to see what a good score is. If you are 3 for 30, the game is pretty much over. We have gotten an assessment period which we want those two to do. This was very good, 55 for no loss on that wicket was spot on. He looked good, and it's the next phase, (to ensure that) his hitting that was so good last year, is more crisp. It's not for lack of intent. In fact, he has doubled up on intent. We're fine with Jinks and the role he plays, he concluded.

PML-N Senior Leader Hints at Potential Early Elections to Facilitate Nawaz Sharif's Return as Prime Minister

PML-N Senior Leader Hints at Potential Early Elections to Facilitate Nawaz Sharif's Return as Prime Minister A senior leader of the ruling PML-N party has hinted at the possibility of fresh elections in Pakistan within the next two years to pave the way for Nawaz Sharif to secure a record fourth term as prime minister, according to a media report on Thursday. Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Javed Latif's comments came during an interview with a private TV channel. Nawaz Sharif, 74, was all set to become prime minister for the fourth time but his party failed to get a clear majority in the National Assembly on its own in the February 8 general elections. In a surprise move, he allowed his 72-year-old younger brother and the incumbent party president Shehbaz Sharif -- who is considered the favourite of the military establishment -- to lead a six-party coalition government at the Centre. Latif said whether the elections take place in two or five years, Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N supremo will take the reins of power for the fourth time. He hinted that early elections could be in the cards within the next two years to pave the way for Nawaz Sharif's fourth stint as the countrys prime minister, The Express Tribune newspaper reported. Pressed to explain how Nawaz Sharif could reclaim the top spot within two years, especially with his brother currently occupying it, Latif said it would be possible through elections. The elections can happen tomorrow,'' he said. Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan from London in October 2023 after ending his nearly four-year-long self-imposed exile, hoping to be the prime minister again. He predicted that even those who once obstructed Nawaz Sharif's path to a fourth term as premier would now rally behind him. He pointed out that a party with a two-thirds majority often struggles to complete its term. The senior PML-N politician warned that the withdrawal of support from even one coalition party could jeopardise the current governments survival. Latif is the only remaining active party member who continues to take swipes at his own party's central government. Given the track record of his colleague Rana Sanaullahwho, after throwing jabs at his own party's central government, promptly joined the same Cabinet he accused of being chosen by the establishmentmany in the party view his criticism of the party as Latif's desperate attempt to bargain for a position in the government, the paper said. A source within the Prime Minister's Office revealed that Sanaullah was brought into the cabinet to exert control over him. The source said he was a senior party leader and president of Punjab, adding that any action against himeven if approved by Nawaz Sharifcould have been harmful to the party's interests. When questioned about whether Rana Sanaullah and Ishaq Dar's appointments were decisions made by Shehbaz Sharif, he said he was not at liberty to divulge any specifics, noting that in the PML-N party, Nawaz Sharif remains the founder and his decisions reign supreme. He said that Latif, inspired by Rana Sanaullah, might have chosen to go all out. He added that it was up to Nawaz Sharif to assess his party leaders who deviated from the party line.
