AHMEDABAD : Congress candidate from Surat Lok Sabha seat Nilesh Kumbhani, whose nomination was cancelled leading to the BJPs unopposed win, has again sparked a controversy. After the cancellation of Kumbhanis candidacy, he and his three proposers have remained out of public view. The Congress suspended Kumbhani after he lost contact with the party. Furthermore, a message circulated by his supporters hinted at a media appearance on Thursday with promises of significant revelations, stirring a buzz in political circles. However, he failed to make an appearance. On Wednesday night, Nilesh Kumbhanis supporters circulated a message stating that he would address the media and unveil significant revelations. However, shortly after, another message emerged stating that he would no longer appear before the media due to his ill health, a leader of Surat Congress said, wishing not to be named. It is possible that Nilesh Kumbhanis initial message reached Congress workers, and fearing strong opposition, he had to retract his decision, the leader said. PM: Congress's Assembly Election Strategy Aims to Divide Society Along Caste Lines and Unite Vote Bank Through Appeasement

PM: Congress's Assembly Election Strategy Aims to Divide Society Along Caste Lines and Unite Vote Bank Through Appeasement Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the Congress was fighting the 2024 Lok Sabha polls with the twin strategy of dividing society in the name of caste and uniting its vote bank through appeasement. Addressing a rally in Jamnagar in Gujarat, the PM said the Congress government in Karnataka issued a ''fatwa'' overnight to include Muslims in the Other Backward Classes segment to give them quota benefits. ''The Congress is contesting elections on two strategies. The first is to divide society in the name of caste and the second is unite its vote bank through appeasement,'' Modi said. He further said the Congress planned to change the Constitution to give reservation on the basis of religion. This is why the Congress party spread an ''absolute rumour'' regarding (curtailing of) reservations to Dalits, Adivasis and OBCs and tried to make it an election agenda, the PM said. The Congress is trying to take away reservations of SCs, STs and OBCs and give these benefits to Muslims. In Karnataka, 27 per cent OBC quota was ''looted overnight'' by the Congress to appease its vote bank, whereas those who drafted the Constitution were clear that religion-based quota could not be provided, the PM said. ''The Constituent Assembly did not have leaders from BJP, RSS. Scholars like Babasaheb Ambedkar were present and after detailed discussions they decided that reservation cannot be given in the name of religion as it would create a grave danger for the country,'' he said. ''The poison sprayed by Congress has gone very high and I don't know to what places it will spread by end of this election,'' the PM said, adding the opposition party's leaders were at the forefront of supporting ''terrorists'' and were now calling for ''vote jihad''. The then prime minster served as the guest of Kashmiri separatists and Congress leaders came forward to save Ajmal Kasab, the lone gunman arrested after the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai, Modi said. ''Books were written to save jihadis of the Mumbai terror attack and a Congress leader released (one such) book. In Delhi, when terrorists were killed at Batla House, the 'madam' of the Congress could not stop tears. When Afzal Guru was sentenced to hang, people from this ecosystem reached the Supreme Court and the President,'' the PM said. These people are now calling for ''vote jihad'' (religion based voting to stop the BJP), he pointed out. Slamming the Congress' manifesto, Modi said it was a sign of danger for the country. ''INDI alliance leaders are asking Muslim voters to go for vote jihad. It is not something being uttered by a child studying in a madrassa but by Congress leaders who come from highly educated families,'' the PM said. ''''The kind of language that the Muslim League used, the narrative on which the country was divided are unfortunately the same on the basis of which they are seeking votes,'' he said. The Congress leaves no opportunity to mock ''our faith'' but would it dare to make fun of anything related to other religions, the PM asked. ''They boycott the Ram Temple, they call Dwarka a lie. They say we will make Lord Shiva and Lord Ram fight and ensure Ram's defeat. The 'shehzada' of the Congress even ridiculed my offering prayers in submerged Dwarka. Therefore, I say we should be careful of the Congress,'' the PM said. The Congress' politics started with false propaganda and has now fallen into despair, Modi said. ''The Congress has the same frustration and hatred towards the country's development that it once had for Gujarat. While India's stature is rising across the world, the shehzada of the Congress and his ecosystem go abroad and defame our country with long lectures,'' the PM said in a swipe at Rahul Gandhi. When the Congress-led UPA was unseated in 2014, the country's economy was the 11th largest in the world, whereas India was ranked 6th when it gained Independence, the PM pointed out. ''They were intellectuals. However, then came a chaiwala who had Gujarati blood and the economy rose to 5th rank,'' the PM said, adding he did not seek people's blessings for power, prestige and position but to fulfil the pledge of making India the third largest economy. ''You can imagine how much the world's attitude will change towards India when we achieve third rank. India will be self-reliant and will not have to spread its hand before the world for anything. I need blessings to make such an India,'' Modi asserted. Slamming the Congress' ''scholars'' for claiming that the country's economy would achieve third rank by itself and for stating that poverty can be removed in an instant, Modi said these persons had never thought about facing and overcoming challenges and solving problems. ''When the intentions are clean, the results are grand,'' the PM emphasised. Modi said he has three challenges for the Congress, and these are, firstly, giving in writing whether it would provide religion-based quota to Muslims by changing the Constitution, secondly, not taking away reservation benefits of Dalits, tribals and OBCs, and thirdly, that its state governments will not run a hidden agenda of including Muslims in the OBC segment. ''Will Modi stay silent when the country is facing such dangers? Will he ever allow the country to be divided? As long as Modi is alive, he will not allow the country to be divided again in the name of religion,'' he asserted. The Congress' leaders, instead of responding (to such challenges) are misleading the public, he added. Voting on 25 of Gujarat's 26 Lok Sabha seats will take place on May 7. The BJP has won the Surat seat unopposed.

MP opposition leader Singhar distances himself from BJP, takes swipe at Saindia

MP opposition leader Singhar distances himself from BJP, takes swipe at Saindia Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh assembly Umang Singhar of the Congress on Wednesday rejected speculations of joining the BJP and took potshots at Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia whose 2020 switch over led to the collapse of the Kamal Nath government. He alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was spreading rumours about defection of senior Congress leaders to divert voters' attention from core issues in the Lok Sabha elections. Singhar targeted Scindia, whose exit from the Congress led to the collapse of the 15-month-old Nath government in March 2020 and paved the way for the BJP's return to power in Madhya Pradesh. Scindia later joined the BJP and became a minister at the Centre. ''BJP leaders from Delhi to Bhopal have been contacting me (for switch over) for the last several years. Even when the Kamal Nath government was toppled, I was given all kinds of inducements. Even then I did not join the BJP because I am Umang Singhar and not Scindia,'' the senior Congress MLA remarked. Singhar was replying to queries from reporters in Indore about speculations of him joining the saffron party. The Congress legislator alleged the ruling BJP is putting pressure on opposition leaders by misusing central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department. ''If the Congress had done this kind of politics in the last 70 years, the BJP would not have been visible today,'' he maintained. The Leader of Opposition targeted six-time Congress MLA from Vijaypur (Sheopur district) Ramniwas Rawat, who joined the BJP on Tuesday. Singhar claimed Rawat joined the ruling party out of greed for a ministerial post and sought to downplay his switch over. ''It doesn't make a difference to the Congress if power-hungry people leave the party,'' he said. Asked about Congress candidate from Indore Lok Sabha seat Akshay Kanti Bam withdrawing his nomination and later joining the BJP, Singhar remarked that it turned out to be a case of an ''unexploded firecracker''. ''Whether it is Surat (where Congress candidate's nomination was rejected) or Indore, the law and the Constitution were openly violated. The BJP is trying to change the Constitution,'' he alleged.

Amit Shah: PM Modi Can Eliminate Naxalism in Two Years if Given Third Term

Amit Shah: PM Modi Can Eliminate Naxalism in Two Years if Given Third Term If voted to office for a third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will completely eliminate Naxalism from the country within two years, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted on Tuesday. Shah claimed the BJP and its NDA allies are winning at least 100 seats in the first two phases of the Lok Sabha elections (covering 190 constituencies) which have concluded and added ''BJP's chariot is moving towards achieving the target of 400-plus seats''. Addressing a poll rally in Ahmedabad city's Naroda area, Shah said before the BJP came to power at the Centre, Naxalites were ''dreaming about creating a red corridor from Pashupatinath in Nepal till Tirupati'' in Andhra Pradesh, but their activities are now confined to just parts of Chhattisgarh. During the last five years, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have become free from the Naxal menace, noted the senior BJP leader. ''Naxalites still exist in some parts of Chhattisgarh. The BJP has formed a government in that state recently. Just today (Tuesday), the Chhattisgarh police eliminated nine Naxalites. Give a third term to PM Modi and I assure you that Modiji will eliminate Naxalism completely from the country in two years,'' declared Shah. Referring to the BJP's manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls, Shah said the Modi government will provide free healthcare to every individual above 70 years of age under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. ''Those above 70 years of age, whether crorepati or roadpati (rich or poor), won't have to spend a rupee on medical treatment if PM Modi wins a third term,'' the Union minister told the gathering. He underscored that though former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was an economist, he could not improve India's ranking in the world economy despite being in power for 10 years (2004-14). ''The country's economy remained on the 11th spot during Singh's ten-year tenure. It was PM Modi who turned our country into the fifth largest economy. Just give him a third term and he will take our economy to the third spot,'' said Shah. He alleged that instead of functioning as a constructive opposition, the Congress always opposed pro-people projects in Gujarat, be it BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System), metro rail or Sabarmati Riverfront. Shah addressed the rally in support of BJP candidate from the Ahmedabad-East Lok Sabha seat, Hasmukh Patel. Voting on 25 Lok Sabha seats (BJP candidate from Surat has been elected unopposed) in Gujarat will take place on May 7 in a single phase. Shah is the BJP candidate from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, from where he is seeking a second term. In 2019, the BJP had won all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, the home state of Modi.

Congress Faces Multiple Setbacks in Lok Sabha Elections: High Court Rejects Candidate's Petition in Indore

Indore: The Congress party has faced several setbacks in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Firstly, the nomination of their candidate in Surat was canceled, and the Congress candidate from Indore withdrew his nomination. Recently, the High Court rejected the petition of Congress' substitute candidate, Moti Patel, in Indore. The court compared the situation to a waiting ticket on a train, stating that if it's not confirmed, the ticket is automatically canceled. Therefore, the petitioner was advised to approach the Election Commission. Moti Patel approached the High Court after the withdrawal of the Congress candidate, Akshay Bam's nomination. Patel argued that according to the rules, if a Congress candidate's nomination is canceled or withdrawn, the dummy candidate becomes the authorized candidate. However, the court rejected Patel's argument. Meanwhile, the BJP has already secured one seat unopposed, with two more seats considered decided. This was due to various reasons such as the rejection of the nomination of the INDIA alliance candidate for the Khajuraho seat and the rejection of nomination papers of Congress candidates in Surat. Additionally, the Congress candidate, Akshay Bam, withdrew his nomination for the Indore seat, the home district of the Madhya Pradesh State Congress President. On Monday, when the Congress candidate went to Indore to withdraw his nomination, BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola was seen accompanying him to the collector's office. Following this, Akshay Kanti Bam, along with senior Madhya Pradesh leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, joined the BJP. This move has raised suspicions, with some alleging Operation Lotus. There are accusations that the Congress candidate was pressured to withdraw, either by the government or the MLA. Congress Candidate Withdraws Nomination in Indore, Alleges 'Threats and Torture'

Congress Candidate Withdraws Nomination in Indore, Alleges 'Threats and Torture' Congress' Indore Lok Sabha candidate Akshay Bam was ''threatened and tortured'' following which he withdraw his nomination, the opposition party's Madhya Pradesh chief Jitu Patwari has claimed while targeting the BJP. Bam withdrew his nomination on Monday, which was the last day for the process. ''Three days ago, IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) was added to an old case against Bam. He was threatened. He was tortured in different ways for the whole night. And today he has withdrawn his nomination,'' Patwari alleged at a rally here on Monday. Bam, his father Kantilal and others are accused in a case that was registered in October 2007. On April 5 this year, the victim filed an application in the court of the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) seeking adding of section 307 after alleging that one of the accused had fired on him. The plea was accepted on April 24 and Bam and his father have been asked to appear in a sessions court on May 10. ''What is the message in all this? Don't people from Indore have the right to use their vote? If you believe in democracy, please stand up against this dictatorship. This is not just about Congress and BJP. Anyone who wants to vote, and keep reservations and the Constitution strong must stand up,'' Patwari said. Something similar happened in Surat in Gujarat, he added. In Surat, BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal was declared elected unopposed last week after Congress nominee Nilesh Kumbhani's form was rejected over irregularities in signature of proposers. Patwari said the BJP is praising itself but what was the mistake of the people of Surat who wanted to elect an MP with the power of their vote. Referring to leaders of various parties, including the Congress, joining the BJP, he alleged the ruling dispensation was misusing official machinery. ''Democracy and the Constitution are under threat,'' he asserted.

We Focus on Peoples Everydays Problems to Confront Modi, Says Yogendra Yadav

Hyderabad : Yogendra Yadav from the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, an umbrella body of civil society organisations that has thrown its weight behind the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, is leaving no stone unturned in driving home its message. In an interview to Deccan Chronicle, he regrets that we have come to such a pass now that BJP president J.P. Nadda thinks the idea of bridging income inequality is a Maoist idea and not an objective as part of the directive principles of state policy. Q Why are you calling the 2024 general elections as the most unfair and unequal election? Yadav: There has always been some degree of unevenness in the electoral arena. The ruling party had more money power and state power and enjoyed preferential treatment by the media. There have been state-level elections which have been completely unfair. The elections in Punjab in 1982, and Assam in 1983 were boycotted by people. The polls in Bengal in 1972 were rigged and the Kashmir polls of 1987 were a joke. But so far no national election has come in this category, not even the one in 1977. The media has never targeted the opposition actively unlike now. The Election Commission has not been so partisan ever. The resignation and appointment of new members to the body was akin to giving a chance to one of the teams to choose the referee in a football match. Twenty crore people are being called ghuspaithiye and the EC sends notice to the party president Nadda instead of the Prime Minister. After Surat, now a Congress candidate from Indore has withdrawn his candidature from the Lok Sabha campaign. Such things happen in panchayat polls. Why did all contenders withdraw after the Congress candidate withdrew in Surat? This is a blot on our democracy. The EC had during Vajpayees tenure in 2002 called election commissioners from 70 countries and asked me to deliver a lecture on democracy. Q What role do you see for the civil society organisations in the general elections now? What impact do you think this campaign has had so far? Yadav: The civil society has come together under the banner of Bharat Jodo Abhiyan. Our role is to approach various sections like traders, Dalits, farmers, minorities and human rights activists and bring them together. Our teams are working in some constituencies on the ground. In Telangana, we are working in Mahbubnagar, Zaheerabad, Chevella, Secunderabad, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Nizamabad constituencies. Q What do you think is the narrative that can bring the people together in the present circumstances? Yadav: When PM Narendra Modi is being projected, we are focusing on the mudda (issue) and there is our narrative and we talk of real issues of the people. When they rake in Hindu-Muslim issues, we are talking of jawan and kisan, and the talk of mandir is fended off by talking of mehangai (price rise). The bulldozer is being pitted with talk of berojgari (employment). When they use money to spread lies, we are spreading the truth of Manipur. Q Do you think the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc has been able to do that? What do you think are the shortcomings of the alliance if any? The I.N.D.I.A. bloc has done less than what was needed, hence the need for us to pitch in. The manifesto of the Congress has addressed a few pain points of the people. It would have helped if the parties had come up with a joint declaration or guarantees. Q What is your opinion on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren? We are treading on the path of Russia. All legal arguments put forward on their arrest are a distraction. Probe into the liquor policy has been happening for two years now. Why not wait for another two months? There is no danger of them running away. It should be remembered that I have criticised the Delhi liquor policy. Even a child now knows that inconvenient players are being removed from the field. Based on suspicion, half of Modis cabinet can be arrested after the exposure of electoral bonds. What is happening now is 100 times worse than the dislodging of N.T. Rama Rao in united AP in 1983. Q. How is the present situation different from the emergency imposed between 1975 and 1977? The Emergency then was visible unlike now when it is invisible and more difficult to expose. The Emergency then ended after the period. They are not even pretending and are brazenly deciding who has to be the CM of a State. Moreover, there was no targeting of a community and being reduced to second grade citizens. Q. Why do you think the political rhetoric of the BJP has changed after the first phase of elections spearheaded by none other than the Prime Minister? Post Ayodhya temple consecration the BJP thought it would be a cake walk for them. But in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, they are falling short by 10 seats in each of them. So after realising that leaving alone 400 or even 300 would be difficult for them, Modi has fallen back on their tried and tested rhetoric of whipping up communal passions. He knows that the economy is in shambles, with rural distress, massive unemployment, livelihood crisis and farmers are angry. But the EC is just watching. People know everything, I trust them. public sab janti hai (public knows everything).

Congress cries foul as party's Indore nominee Akshay Bam defects to BJP

The Congress party faced another setback as its candidate, Akshay Kanti Bam, from the Indore Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh, withdrew his nomination and joined the BJP. Congress alleged that Bam was pressured due to pending cases against him, including a murder charge. This incident follows a similar defection of the Congress candidate in the Surat seat of Gujarat last week. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate described these actions as a hreat to democracy, accusing the BJP of coercing candidates and their proposers.

Digvijaya Singh, a senior Congress leader, expressed disappointment over Akshay Kanti Bam's withdrawal from the Indore Lok Sabha seat contest, calling it a very big betrayal. Congress alleges betrayal as candidate withdraws from Indore by-poll

Congress alleges betrayal as candidate withdraws from Indore by-poll Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh on Monday termed as ''a very big betrayal'' the withdrawal of the candidature by the party nominee from Indore Lok Sabha seat, Akshay Kanti Bam. '''Bahut badi gaddari ki hai'....It is a very big betrayal. This was not expected from him,'' Singh told PTI in Rajgarh. When asked whether he had supported Bam's candidature, Singh said, ''The ticket was given by the Congress party''. Singh, however, admitted that he had family relations with Bam. In a major blow to the Congress in Madhya Pradesh after the Surat fiasco, Bam withdrew from the Indore contest on Monday. He is apparently headed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) camp. The Congress has dubbed Bam opting out of the poll race on the last day of the withdrawal of nominations a ''threat to democracy''. Notably, the BJP marked its first victory in Lok Sabha polls last week from the Surat seat in Gujarat after the nomination form of the Congress' candidate Nilesh Kumbhani was rejected over discrepancies and other contestants opted out of the race, which ensured BJP nominee Mukesh Dalal getting a walkover.

In MP Congress Indore Candidate Withdraws Nomination And Joins BJP

In a major setback to Congress, the party's candidate for Indore Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh Akshay Kanti Bamb on Monday withdrew his nomination. The Congress candidate went to the local returning officers office along with BJP MLA Ramesh Mandola in the afternoon to withdraw his candidature. State minister and senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya later posted a photograph on his X, formerly twitter, account showing him in the company of Mr Bamb. He said that the BJP welcomed him into the party. Eight other candidates (all independents) in the seat withdrew their candidature, leaving total 14 candidates including BJP nominee and incumbent MP Shankar Lalwani to remain in the fray. Indore is going to polls in the fourth phase of elections in Madhya Pradesh along with eight other seats on May 13. April 29 was the nomination withdrawal day for the fourth round of elections in the state. Incidentally, Mr Bamb hails from the home town of state Congress president Jitu Patwari and is said to be his close confidant. Mr Patwari meanwhile accused BJP of taking recourse to coercive measures to force Mr Bamb to withdraw his candidature. Mr Bamb was subjected to harassment by the BJP to force him to withdraw the nomination. An additional section under Indian Penal Code (IPC) was added to an old case to put pressure on him to withdraw candidature. This clearly indicates that democracy in the country is in danger, he said. Meanwhile, sources said that Congress is seriously planning to extend support to one of the 13 independent candidates currently in the fray from the seat to take on the BJP. Chief minister Mohan Yadav however said that Congress candidates were forced to join the fray in the LS polls against their will by the party fearing defeat. He also demanded resignation of PCC president Mr Patwari for the resignation of a large number of Congress leaders including Mr Bamb from the party in the recent past. Earlier this month, nomination of the Opposition alliance candidate from Khajuraho LS seat in the state, Meera Yadav of Samajwadi Party (SP) was rejected over some discrepancy, forcing Congress to extend its support to the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) candidate in the constituency R B Prajapati to take on BJP. State BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma was seeking re-election in the Khajuraho LS seat which went to polls in the second phase polling in the state on April 26. In a similar incident, nomination of candidate for Surat Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat was rejected over some discrepancy, leading to election of BJP candidate in the seat Mukesh Dalal, unopposed.

Rahul Gandhi Vows Caste and Economic Survey If Congress Comes to Power

Surat: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pledged to conduct a caste and economic survey across the country on a priority basis if the Congress comes to power at the Centre. Addressing an election rally in Patan city of North Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that proper representation is lacking for SC, ST, and OBC communities in various sectors like corporate, media, private hospitals, universities, and government bureaucracy. Accusing the BJP and RSS of attempting to change the Constitution, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the ruling NDA is against reservation. He asserted, Reservation means fair participation of the poor, tribals, Dalits, and backward people. Narendra Modi wants to snatch this right from you by making privatization a weapon. Rahul Gandhi highlighted the increasing economic disparity in India, stating that only 1 percent of the population controls 40 percent of the country's wealth. He criticized the BJP government's initiatives like Agniveer and privatization, which, according to him, aim to end reservation. He emphasized the ideological battle between the Congress and the BJP-RSS alliance, portraying the former as protectors of the Constitution and the latter as its destroyers. Rahul Gandhi also criticized the recent inauguration of the Ram temple, highlighting the absence of poor people, farmers, and laborers at the event. He expressed disappointment that President Kovind, a tribal community member, was not invited. Rahul Gandhi promised to revoke the Agniveer scheme and introduce the Mahalaxmi Yojana if Congress comes to power. Bam has not contested any election in his political career so far. MALAPPURAM: NDA Malappuram candidate M Abdul Salam, the lone Muslim candidate from the BJP in fray, defended the partys decision to expel BJPs Minority Morcha Bikaner district president Usman Ghani, and Prime Minister Narendra Modis recent remarks at an election rally in Rajasthans Banswara last week that snowballed into a controversy. In an apparent reference to the Muslim community, the PM had claimed that the Congress will distribute citizens property among infiltrators and those who have more children if voted to power. Speaking to a news channel in New Delhi, Ghani had said he was disappointed with Modis observations. He was later expelled for his comments against Modi. Speaking to TNIE , Salam said Ghani should have maintained party discipline. Ghani was dismissed as he made statements that should not have been made while he is a member of the party. In any party, leaders should maintain at least minimum discipline. You will have to obey some policies of the party, even if you dont agree with them. And, if you cannot accept them, you should quit the party, Salam said. As for Modis speech, Salam said it was an attack on the Congress, not the Muslim community. He was attacking the Congress party at the election campaign in Rajasthan, not Muslims. He criticised the practices of the Congress, citing that public funds were being utilised to entice a specific segment of the populace to secure their votes, Salam said. Salam had some unpleasant experiencing while campaigning in the Muslim-dominated Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency. Salam said proper party machinery could have overcome such anti-BJP sentiments. The party has a significant presence at nationally, but organisational machinery commensurate with the partys national presence was not operational in the constituency from where I contested, he said. However, Salam said he was confident of enhancing the BJPs vote share in Malappuram constituency.

No truth in Rahul Gandhi's allegation that BJP will abolish quota: BJP MLA Purnesh Modi

No truth in Rahul Gandhi's allegation that BJP will abolish quota: BJP MLA Purnesh Modi Accusing the Congress of appeasement and vote bank politics, Gujarat BJP MLA Purnesh Modi said that there is no truth in the aseless allegations of the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about abolishing the reservations. The BJP MLA also assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah also said that the Congress leader is spreading rumours. It is Rahul Gandhi's nature to make baseless allegations during every election. Regarding reservations, PM Modi and Union HM Amit Shah have also said Rahul Gandhi is spreading lies and rumours. In reality, there is nothing like this, he said. Our slogan is 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas. There is nothing about abolishing the reservations... The Congress brings up such issues during elections for appeasement and vote bank politics..., the BJP leader said. Speaking to ANI on Sunday, the Union Home Minister reaffirmed that as long as the BJP-led NDA was in power, there would be no rethink on reservations or quotas to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. Rahul Gandhi is trying to mislead people by spreading canards against us. The BJP has been at the helm of this country for 10 years now and was elected with absolute majority twice. If we had, indeed, been working with the intention or motivation to put an end to reservations in the country, it would have happened by now. These are nothing but lies. Narendra Modi-ji has already assured the Dalits, backward classes, and our tribal brothers and sisters across the country that as long as the BJP is in power, no one can dare take back reservations, Shah told ANI. A sitting MLA from the Surat (West) in Gujarat, Purnesh Modi had filed a criminal defamation suit against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 'Modi' surname remark. A Surat court later convicted and sentenced Rahul Gandhi in the case which resulted in his disqualification as Lok Sabha MP. The Congress leader challenged his conviction at the Supreme Court, which stayed the Surat court ruling and his membership of the lower House of Parliament was eventually restored. The 2024 general elections are being held in seven phases. Polling for the first phase was held on April 19 and for the second phase it was held on April 26. The counting and results will be declared on June 4. (ANI)

Joint Operation by ATS and NCB Leads to Arrest of 14 Pakistani Nationals

Surat: In a significant joint operation conducted on Sunday, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) collaborated to apprehend 14 Pakistani nationals off the Gujarat coast. The security forces seized a substantial amount of contraband drugs, weighing 86 kilograms and valued at approximately Rs 602 crore, from the possession of the apprehended individuals. The operation turned perilous as the Pakistani nationals attempted to evade arrest. In a desperate move, they tried to run their boat over the ATS officials and even resorted to opening fire in retaliation. However, the security forces managed to apprehend the suspects without any casualties. The search operation had been ongoing near the international sea border, well within Indian territorial waters, for the past two days. The successful operation represents a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the region. This operation closely followed another major success for law enforcement agencies. Just a day prior, the NCB had uncovered and dismantled three labs involved in manufacturing the banned drug mephedrone, commonly known as 'meow meow'. These labs were operating in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Seven individuals were arrested in connection with this case, and narcotics with an estimated value of approximately Rs 300 crore were seized. The uncovering of these labs was the result of diligent efforts by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Gujarat Police, who acted on information received from a confidential source. The information revealed the presence of drug manufacturing labs in Gujarat and Rajasthan, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies. These back-to-back operations have dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region, signaling a resolute stance by Indian security agencies against illicit drug trade and related criminal activities. Amit Shah thanks Gujaratis for BJPs win in Surat

AHMEDABAD : Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that the BJP has secured its first victory in the Lok Sabha elections from the Surat constituency even before the counting of votes, attributing it to the foresightedness of the people of Gujarat. In 2014 and 2019, the wonderful people of Gujarat endorsed Narendra Modis leadership by giving all 26 Lok Sabha seats to the BJP. This time taking it a step further, even before the counting, people have ensured that the account has already been opened in Surat... Now, a hat-trick awaits in the remaining 25 seats, and representatives in the name of Narendra Modi will be sent to Parliament, Shah said at an election rally at Jamkandorna in Rajkot district. BJPs Surat nominee Mukesh Dalal was elected unopposed after Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhanis nomination was rejected for allegedly forging the signatures of his proposers, and others withdrew from the fray. Shah expressed the confidence that the BJP is leading in the seats that went to polls in two phases on April 19 and 26. Two phases have been completed. Do you want to know the results? Will you keep it a secret? Do not tell it to anyone After two phases, it is now clear that Rahul Gandhi is finished. From east to west and north to south, there is only one resounding soundthat of Modi, Modi, Modi. The whole country has decided to make Narendra Modi Prime Minister for the third term, Shah said while campaigning for BJP candidate Mansukh Mandaviya in Porbandar constituency. Taking a jibe at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the BJP leader said, Congress president Kharge says, what have people of Gujarat and Rajasthan got to do with Kashmir. I want to tell him, Kharge saheb, you are over 80 years old, but you still havent grasped the essence of our nation. Every youth in Jamkandorna is prepared to sacrifice their lives for Kashmir... You tell me, shouldnt Article 370 have been abrogated? Shah criticised the Congress for deviating from the Ram mandir issue during its 70 years of governance, attributing it to vote bank politics. He said, For over 500 years, our Lord Ram remained confined to a tent in an unknown area. Modiji, after 500 years, restored the pride of Lord Ram by constructing a magnificent Ram mandir. Lauding the economic achievements of the BJP government, the Union minister said, Congress had left the country in the 11th position among the world economies. It is Modiji who has elevated it to number 5. I guarantee you that if you elect Modi as PM for the third time, he will propel the country to become the worlds third-largest economy.

Nomination fiasco: Kumbhani breaks silence on rejection of nomination from Surat LS seat

SURAT: Nilesh Kumbhani, whose nomination form for Surat Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat was rejected on April 21 due to issues with the signatures of proposers, on Friday claimed his Congress colleagues did not help during campaigning. The party hit back saying the cancellation of nomination was part of Kumbhani's plan. Kumbhani was suspended for six years by the Congress earlier in the day, which said the party's disciplinary committee had concluded that his nomination form was rejected due to gross negligence on his part or in connivance with the BJP. Congress suspends Surat LS candidate Nilesh Kumbhani whose nomination form was rejected In a video he shared with the media, Kumbhani said he had received offers from the BJP in the past but remained with the Congress all these years and even kept his office open in Varachha area despite losing elections. When I was coming to Ahmedabad to file a petition in the High Court regarding my nomination form, some Congress workers had staged a protest outside my house in Surat, which forced me to return. Congress leaders used to remain absent during my poll rallies as well as my door-to-door campaign, he claimed in the video. The Congress leadership did not even give a list of workers who were supposed to be given booth duties during the election. Those who are speaking against me today are actually working in connivance with the BJP and left me to fend for myself. Though I was denied a ticket in the 2017 assembly polls, I did not desert the Congress, he further claimed. Hitting back at Kumbhani, Gujarat Congress leader Prafull Togadia said the former had betrayed his party and the people of Surat. He is making false allegations. He first made his relatives his proposers and then claimed they were kidnapped. When we asked him to lodge a police complaint, he told the media nothing happened. It was his plan to get his nomination cancelled. People of Surat will never forgive him, claimed Togadia. BJP wins Surat seat after poll officer rejects Congress candidate's nomination papers Kumbhani, who was a former corporator in the Surat Municipal Corporation, had unsuccessfully fought the 2022 assembly polls on a Congress ticket from Kamrej. On April 21, his nomination form was rejected after his three proposers submitted affidavits to the district returning officer claiming the signatures on it were not theirs. The nomination form of Suresh Padsala, the Congress' substitute candidate, was also invalidated on the same grounds. On April 22, the BJP's Mukesh Dalal was declared elected unopposed from Surat after all other candidates, including from the BSP, withdrew their nominations. Following the declaration of result on April 22, Kumbhani had gone incommunicado and his whereabouts are still not known. Surat Congress candidate's wife says Nilesh Kumbhani missing

Arms suppliers arrested in Salman Khan house firing incident sent to Crime Branch custody till April 30

Arms suppliers arrested in Salman Khan house firing incident sent to Crime Branch custody till April 30 The Mumbai Esplanade Court on Friday sent the accused duo, who allegedly supplied guns to the shooters in the Salman Khan house firing case, to the sutody of Mumbai Crime Brnach till April 30. Two accused, identified as Sonu Subhash Chander and Anuj Thapan were arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in the Salman Khan case. The duo was accused of supplying guns to shooters Vicky and Sagar, who fired multiple rounds of bullets outside the actor's house on April 14. The two men, who came on a motorbike, fired four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments, around 5 am on April 14 and fled. CCTV footage spotted both the accused sporting caps and carrying backpacks. They were arrested on the basis of inputs indicating that they provided weapons to the other two accused. We told the court that we had not provided any weapons, did not come to Panvel, and had nothing to do with them. We have nothing to do with Bishnoi. Only one person's surname is Bishnoi and he is being dragged into this, Dubey said. Earlier, the Mumbai Police registered a case against four people in the firing case, naming the Bishnoi brothers as key accused. The sections under IPC 506(2) (threatening), 115 (abetment), and 201 (tampering with evidence) have been added to the case. Mumbai Crime Branch officials disclosed that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi have been declared wanted accused in connection with the case. Anmol Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the firing outside Salman's residence in a Facebook post following the attack. The accused, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, were grilled by officials of the elite National Investigation Agency (NIA) over several hours, officials informed on Friday. Earlier, on Thursday, the Esplanade Court extended the police custody of both the accused arrested in connection with the firing incident till April 29. They were produced before the metropolitan magistrate's court here after their previous remand ended on Thursday and were remanded in custody of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch. Earlier, the Crime Branch claimed to have recovered strong evidence against gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi, identifying them as the key conspirators and 'most wanted' in the case. According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, before the firing went down, the shooters had reached Salman's residence four times. They had also staked out Salman's farmhouse, the Crime Branch informed, adding that since the actor hadn't visited his farmhouse over several days, they planned to execute the firing outside his plush Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra. According to officials, the Mumbai Crime Branch recovered a broken mobile handset from the accused at the time of their arrest, adding that they were in possession of more than one phone. The Crime Branch informed further that they were looking into the other phones as well. They also informed of the recovery of the second pistol, along with four magazines and 17 rounds from the Tapi River of Surat. The sleuths stated earlier that they fished out the pistol from the river on April 22 and also found the footprint of one of the arrested shooters, Vicky Gupta, while he making a getaway from Mumbai to Gujarat's Bhuj. The Crime Branch said the shooters chucked the firearm into the Tapi River near Surat while making their escape. The police said they were searching for more mobile handsets that they may have dumped in the river, adding that they moved money to the bank several times. (ANI)
