Day after TMC action against him, Ghosh calls himself grassroot worker

KOLKATA: A day after Kunal Ghosh was removed as the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, he said on Thursday that he would continue to work as a grassroot worker of the party. No problem, I will love to be on the road, working for the party on the field, Ghosh told a local Bengali channel. He was seen crying before the party workers. I cry openly unlike many others who cry only on WhatsApp or other social media platforms to garner sympathy from the TMC chief, he said. Ghosh later told reporters that internal information of the party does not reach chief minister Mamata Banerjee as she is bogged with many works. A section of the party leaders does not want the information to be passed on to Banerjee and thats why she is unaware of many internal developments in the party, he said. Ghosh questioned the role of TMC MP Derek O Brien. Who is Derek O Brien? He only speaks good English. Thats his credential. He is not a politician. Ghosh was stripped off his position after sharing a platform with TMC turncoat and BJPs North Kolkata candidate Tapas Roy on Wednesday, which drew criticism from the TMC leadership. Tapas Roy is a true mass leader. His doors are always open for party workers and people. I have known him for several decades. Unfortunately, our paths are now different as Tapas-da is no more in our party despite our best efforts to retain him, Ghosh had said at the platform. While the TMC had issued a statement informing about its decision to remove Ghosh as state general secretary, the party on Thursday issued a fresh list of star campaigners which retained names of party heavyweights Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee and 38 other leaders including new entrants like Ritabrata Banerjee, minister Birbaha Hansda and candidate Saayoni Ghosh, only leaving out Ghosh. While Ghoshs actions were questioned, some party members, including TMC Rajya Sabha spokesperson Santanu Sen and West Bengal minister Bratya Basu, acknowledged his contributions to the party. bengal governor accused of harassment West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose was accused of sexual harassment by a female employee of Raj Bhavan. SRH script nervy one-run win over RR in last-ball IPL thriller

Hyderabad : Bhuvneshwar Kumar did the star turn with a sensational final over as Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a heist, stunning Rajasthan Royals by just one run in a last-ball thriller to keep their IPL playoff hopes alive, here on Thursday.Needing two to win off the last delivery, Bhuvneshwar (3/41) trapped Rovman Powell (27) with a full toss to leave RR stranded at 200 for seven while chasing a target of 202. Opting to bat, Nitish Reddy (76 not out) and Travis Head (58) produced explosive fifties, while Heinrich Klassen made an unbeaten 19-ball 42 to power Sunrisers Hyderabad to 201 for three. Things were looking up when Bhuvneshwar removed Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson for ducks in the opening over to leave RR at 1 for 2. However, youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal (67) and Riyan Parag (77) came up with counterattacking fifties on way to a massive 134-run partnership to lay the foundation of the runchase. But once the duo was back in the hut, Shimron Hetmyar (13) hit a four and a six as it seemed like a regulation chase but T Natarajan got rid off Hetmyar, who perished at long-on and then skipper Pat Cummins removed Dhruv Jurel, who was caught at deep square leg in the 19th over. The sudden loss of wickets gave SRH hope of a turnaround but Powell produced a six in the last ball of the 19th over to bring the equation down to 13 off six balls. The West Indian kept a calm head to bring it down to 2 off the last ball but Bhuvneshwar denied him the glory. Following the win, SRH snapped their two-game losing streak and moved to the fourth spot with 12 points, same as Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, while RR stayed at the top with 16 points. Chasing the total, Jaiswal and Parag were dropped early in their innings and they capitalised on the reprieves to script a quick recovery. Parag broke the shackles in third over when he carted Bhuvneshwar for two fours and a six. Jaiswal then blasted Marco Jansen for two boundaries after Cummins spilled a straight forward catch. Parag, who was dropped on 24 by Abhishek Sharma, hammered Cummins for another maximum, before carting Jansen for two more fours. Cummins finally introduced spin into the attack but Jaiswal smashed Shahbaz Ahmed for a four to complete his fifty. Three balls later, Parag produced a reverse sweep four to reach his milestone in 32 balls. Jaiwal then played a T Natarajan delivery onto the stumps, while two overs later Parag was holed out at long-on. Earlier, Head forged a 96-run stand off 57 balls for the third wicket with Nitish, who also added another 70 off 32 balls with Klassen to take SRH across the 200-mark for the fifth time this season. Head, who was dropped by Parag in the first ball of the innings, hit six fours and three sixes, while Nitish smashed eight maximums and three fours during his brutal assault. Playing his 300th game, Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been picked for the T20 World Cup, was on the firing line as he conceded 62 in his quota of four overs. Avesh Khan (2/39) produced the first breakthrough, having Abhishek (12) caught at deep midwicket. Sandeep Sharma (1/31) then claimed a first-ball wicket, removing Anmolpreet Singh (5) as SRH scored 37 for 2 in the powerplay, their lowest this IPL. The spin duo of Chahal and R Ashwin (0/36), however, disappointed as the batters milked them for runs to set SRH on the road to recovery. Chahal had a horrible night as Head smashed him for two sixes and a four during an 18-run over after he came on to bowl immediately following the powerplay. The leg-spinner was then taken apart by Nitish, who plundered him for two sixes and two fours to accumulate 21 runs. Nitish, who also clobbered Ashwin and Avesh for two maximums, then sent Sandeep sailing over extra cover, while Head pulled Avesh for another six in the 15th over. The Australian, however, played the pacer onto his middle stump as SRH slipped to 131/3. New man Klassen then joined the party, sending Chahal into the orbit with back-to-back sixes. When Trent Boult was back, Klassen picked him for two fours, while blasting another six off Sandeep.

Woman accuses WB governor of molestation, lodges police complaint

Kolkata: In what has stumped the BJP amid the Lok Sabha Election in West Bengal, a woman accused Governor C.V. Ananda Bose of molesting her at Raj Bhavan on Thursday hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the governors house to spend the night for his poll campaign in three districts on Friday The victim, working on contract since 2019 at Raj Bhavan, also stays at an accommodation there. She lodged a complaint at the Hare Street police station in the evening, alleging that the Governor outraged her modesty on the pretext of making her job permanent with a promotion. According to the complaint, the woman was called by Bose to his chamber last week for a meeting after her transfer from a department to another recently. She, however, left the chamber after feeling uncomfortable by his behaviour. On Thursday, the woman was again called by the Governor to his chamber. This time, she took her colleague who was, however, asked to leave the chamber. The victim claimed that the Governor behaved with her indecently. She rushed out crying and reached the police outpost. Lashing out at Bose, TMC posted on X handle, Appalling and unthinkable! The sanctity of Raj Bhavan, a symbol of our constitutionality, has been tarnished. Hours before PM Narendra Modi was supposed to arrive at Raj Bhavan to spend the night, a woman was allegedly molested by the Governor under the false pretext of a job. Such despicable behaviour must be condemned in the strongest terms. Justice must be delivered swiftly for the victim no excuses, no delays! Bose, however, said, Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God Bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal. According to Raj Bhavan sources, some derogatory narratives were circulated by two disgruntled employees as agents of political parties but other staff expressed solidarity with the governor. Raj Bhavan in a communiqu later barred entry to minister of state for finance Chandrima Bhattacharya citing defamation and anti-constitutional media statements. It added that the Governor would not participate in any function attended by the minister, and that the Attorney General had been contacted for advice on further legal steps against the minister.

IPL 2024: Bhuvneshwar, Cummins, Natarajan Star As SRH Clinch Dramatic One-run Win Over RR

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium: Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked a brilliant 3-41, while Pat Cummins and T Natarajan took two wickets each as Sunrisers Hyderabad came out of nowhere to clinch a dramatic and thrilling one-run win over Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday. After Nitish Reddy was outstanding in a magnificent display of stroke-play to hit an unbeaten 42-ball 76, while Travis Head made 58 off 44 balls as the duo carried SRH to a huge 201/3, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets in a brilliant first over and took out Rovman Powell on the final ball as the hosts won by the barest of margins. Despite that initial setback of losing Jos Buttler and captain Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswals 40-ball 67 and Riyan Parags 49-ball 77 helped RR be in the hunt of clinching an impressive win. But once the duos 133-run partnership was broken, SRH roared their way back in the game to seal it and complete a remarkable comeback, giving RR its first defeat while chasing in the season. The nail-biting win takes SRH to fourth place, where they are tied with Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants on 12 points. RRs chase of 202 was rocked by Bhuvneshwar in the opening over having Buttler nicking behind to wide slip fielder for a golden duck, while Samson was castled by an inswinger rattling stumps through the gate. From there, Jaiswal and Parag played breathtaking strokes from both ends against Bhuvneshwar, Pat Cummins, Marco Jansen and T Natarajan. They also had luck on their side - Jaiswal was dropped by Cummins at mid-off and Parags chance was shelled by Abhishek Sharma at extra cover, as RR ended power-play at 60/2. Jaiswal and Parag rampage continued after power-play, before reaching their respective fifties in 30 and 31 balls respectively in the 11th over. But Jaiswal was gone for 67 off 40 balls, playing on to his stumps off Natarajan. Parag hit two sixes and a four before holing out to long-on for 77 off 49 balls to Cummins. Though Rovman Powell found a few boundaries, SRHs fightback continued as Shimron Hetmyer hit a low full toss straight to long-on off Natarajan, followed by Dhruv Jurel, who had a left hamstring strain while fielding, flicked straight to deep square leg off Cummins. Cummins bowled a superb 19th over, giving away only seven runs, despite Powell lofting a six over extra cover on the last ball. With 12 runs needed to win off the final over, and four men outside the 30-yard circle due to slow over-rate, Powell scooped Bhuvneshwar for four. With two runs needed off the final ball, Bhuvneshwar trapped Powell lbw with a full toss on middle and leg to complete a stunning win for SRH over the table-toppers. Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 201/3 in 20 overs (Nitish Reddy 76 not out, Travis Head 58; Avesh Khan 2-39, Sandeep Sharma 1-31) beat Rajasthan Royals 200/7 in 20 overs (Riyan Parag 77, Yashasvi Jaiswal 67; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3-41, Pat Cummins 2-34) by one run

IPL 2024: MI Not Thinking Where They Will Eventually Finish As They Gear Up For KKR, Says Romario Shepherd

Kolkata Knight Riders: Languishing at the penultimate spot in the points table with six points from 10 games, Mumbai Indians can expect to reach 14 points at the most if they win their remaining four games. Many feel that may not be enough for the five-time champions to seal a place in the playoffs. However, Mumbai Indians' West Indies batter Romario Shepherd said they are thinking about how many points they will end up with eventually and their focus is only on winning every game. Mumbai will play three of their last four matches at Fortress Wankhede starting with a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders here on Friday. KKR are currently in the second spot in the points table with 12 points from nine matches. They have been in great form and in a strong position to reach the playoffs. But Shepherd said the team's current position is not a matter of concern for them when MI take on KKR. Well, you know, we have to play to win and that's the way we play KKR, to win each game. So, it doesn't matter how many points we can get to, we're going to play each game and try to win as big as possible. And if there is an opportunity, you know, that's the only way we can actually get opportunities if we win the games, said Shepherd in the pre-match press conference at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Shepherd had made a sensational debut for Mumbai Indians in their first home match against Delhi Capitals on April 7, hammering four sixes and two fours in the final over off South African pacer Anrich Nortje to collect 32 runs. The burly Guyanese all-rounder ended up scoring 39 runs from 10 balls. However, since then he has not had many chances and got to bat in only four innings of five matches, scoring 56 runs in all at a sensational strike rate of 280.00. However, Shepherd said the reason he did not get many chances was that his performance was not up to par and hoped that he would get more opportunities in the remaining four matches. Well, if my performance has been up to par, I wouldn't be out of the team and stuff like that. But you know, hopefully, I can contribute again with bat or ball to our next win. But as of now, you know, I have to just wait and see whenever I get that opportunity again and hopefully contribute to the team because, you know, we need some wins to get out from the bottom of the table, he added. Shepherd admitted that expectations are high for him following the six-ball 32 feat against Delhi Capitals. Shepherd also agreed that 250-260 runs have become the new par score in IPL 2024 and said the IPL has lived up to its reputation of being a tough tournament.

Woman accuses West Bengal Governor Ananda Bose of sexual harassment

KOLKATA: In a sensational charge, a female employee of Raj Bhavan has accused West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose of sexual harassment. The woman had been working as a temporary staffer at Raj Bhavan since 2019. She complained of feeling uncomfortable when the governor met her on Thursday, reportedly to discuss her promotion. According to the complaint, the woman was touched improperly by the governor a week ago. Sources said she first complained to the Raj Bhavan police outpost before filing a complaint at Hare Street police station. Senior police officials said they received a complaint and are looking into it. We have received a complaint and are conducting an investigation. We are also consulting the matter with constitutional experts of the law department. As per the woman's allegation, she was molested inside Raj Bhavan, Deputy Commissioner of Central Division Indira Mukherjee told reporters. Meanwhile, Bengal Governor Ananda Bose has denied the allegations. In a statement released by the Raj Bhavan, Bose said: Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal. Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God Bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal. Raj Bhavan Kolkata (@BengalGovernor) May 2, 2024 According to sources in the Governor House, the woman employee, with the help of her alleged boyfriend, who is also an employee of the Raj Bhavan, was blocking complaints (from people) being sent to the Election Commission of India. A Raj Bhavan source claimed, When she was reprimanded for that, she went outside and alleged molestation. She is in the habit of throwing tantrums against her colleagues because of some disease. According to constitutional experts, a governor, while in office enjoys immunity from all criminal proceedings underArticle 361 of the Constitution. Meanwhile, the incident has triggered a political slugfest in the state. Senior TMC leaders claimed this evening in a series of social media posts that the woman, who had levelled the allegations, has been taken to a police station to complain against Bose. A governor is being accused of indulging in sexual harassment. What kind of state we are in, fumed state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya. Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose was accused of molesting a woman. How utterly appalling and horrifying. Ahead of Narendra Modi's visit to Kolkata, who is supposed to stay overnight at Raj Bhavan, a woman has alleged that she was molested while she went to meet the Governor at Raj Bhavan today. The complainant has been taken to the Hare Street police station for filing a complaint. The woman has accused the governor of molesting her. Shocking and disgraceful, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose said in a post on X. Molestation charges against Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose puts the prestige of the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata at stake. PM @narendramodi is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata today and stay overnight at the Raj Bhavan. Will Modi ask CV Ananda Bose for an explanation? pic.twitter.com/LFN8Rdemys Sagarika Ghose (@sagarikaghose) May 2, 2024 The BJP said it has to be seen whether this is a conspiracy by the TMC or has an iota of truth in it. We all know that the TMC is politically cornered on the issue of SSC scam and is looking for a breathing space. So this needs to be seen whether this is a conspiracy by the TMC or it has any iota of truth in it, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said. If it turns out to be a conspiracy the perpetrators should be punished. But if it comes out to be true action should also be taken, Adhikari added. The West Bengal Governor and the TMC government have shared an acrimonious relationship since he assumed office in November 2022 and had several run-ins on various issues. In a separate statement from Raj Bhawan, the Governor banned the entry of West Bengal Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya into the Raj Bhavan premises of Kolkata, Darjeeling and Barrackpore for defamation and anti-constitutional media statements. The governor has also instructed his office that he will not participate in any function attended by the minister. The attorney general for India has been contacted for advice on further legal steps against the minister, the Raj Bhavan statement said. (With additional inputs from PTI)

Exclusion of Rinku Singh was the toughest call, he has done nothing wrong: Agarkar

Mumbai: Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar Thursday described the omission of Rinku Singh from Indias T20 World Cup squad as the toughest call, saying the in-from swashbuckler has done nothing wrong and it all came down to combinations. T20 World Cup: Omitting Rinku Singh Was The Toughest Decision We Took, Says Ajit Agarkar

Omitting Rinku Singh: Among a plethora of decisions that they took while selecting the Indian squad for the Men's T20 World Cup to be played in the United States and the Caribbean, Ajit Agarkar, chairman of the national selection committee, said the toughest was to decide not to pick young batting sensation Rinku Singh, who has impressed many with his brilliant death-over batting in the last two editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rinku has played some blazing innings for Kolkata Knight Riders, including hitting four sixes off the last four matches to seal victory for his team. This season, Rinku has scored 123 runs in eight innings coming down in the death overs to score at a strike rate of 150. Many experts and fans, including KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan, have hoped to see him representing India in the t20 World Cup. But the selectors thought otherwise and did not include the youngster in the World Cup squad despite his meteoric rise. Agarkar said the decision on Rinku was the toughest they faced while picking the squad. Its probably the toughest thing that we have had to discuss, frankly. I mean, he has done nothing wrong, nor a Shubman Gill, for that matter. You know, it's again, the combinations. We are not quite sure what conditions we'll get, so we wanted to try and have enough options. There are a couple of spinners that were included in the squad, Chahal and Kuldeep, to give Rohit options. Axar again, batting all-rounder or bowling all-rounder, rather. It's just unfortunate. I don't think it's anything to do with Rinku Singh. It's not his fault that he has missed out. It's more the 15 that we felt gives (India the best chance). With two keepers who are both terrific batters, there is already an extra batter sitting out, he said. Agarkar also said handing the vice-captaincy of the team to Hardik Pandya was not a matter of discussion. Not really, no. Nothing was discussed about vice-captaincy. I mean, you want all guys to be in good form. I think he is coming after a long layoff. The good part that we have looked at is he has gotten through all the games so far for MI (Mumbai Indians) and we have got another month and a little bit till we play our first game. So we know he is doing that and the hope is that he keeps building on that form. So as long as he stays fit, we know what he brings, how much balance he gives the team. I dont think there is a replacement for the things that he can do as a cricketer at the moment. Especially when it comes to the way he bowls, really gives balance. I think he'll give Rohit options to play different combinations. So his fitness for us is critical. And so far, fortunately, he's gone okay in this IPL, said Agarkar during the press conference on Thursday.

Didi Accuses Congress of Colluding with BJP

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused the Congress of teaming up with BJP to ask the voters not to support her party in the Lok Sabha Election in the state. The Trinamul Congress supremo also blamed the Congress for having no policy or ideology. Her allegations came a day after state Congress president and five-time MP Adhir Choudhury, who is seeking his re-election from Berhampore parliamentary seat in Murshidabad, suggested to the people to vote for BJP instead of TMC. Addressing a poll campaign rally for TMC candidate Mahua Moitra, Ms Banerjee said at Tehatta in Nadia, I salute the Election Commission member who resigned for pathetic treatment towards Bengal. But who are the people, now in chair? In a veiled reference to Mr Choudhurys designation in Lok Sabha, the CM added, They are BJP people along with one from Congress, also the leader of the opposition, who is asking people to vote either his party or BJP. Try to understand. They have neither policy nor ideology. To justify her argument, the TMC chief pointed out, Two leaders (BJP president JP Nadda and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath) held meetings recently in Berhampore but did not utter the name of that leader (Mr Choudhury) for even once. Why didn't they do it? Afterall, a bunch of selfish people like them have sold out the country. On Wednesday, the TMC posted a video clip on X-handle which showed Mr Choudhury saying, It's better to vote for BJP rather than TMC during his poll campaign. Ms Banerjee also alerted the public about hearing lies on Friday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will a BJP rally at Tehatta. She said, Tomorrow BJP leaders are coming here again to spread lies because they have an allergy of Mahua who was expelled from the post for revealing the truth.

Exclusion of Rinku Singh proved toughest, he has done nothing wrong: Agarkar

Exclusion of Rinku Singh proved toughest, he has done nothing wrong: Agarkar Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar on Thursday described the omission of Rinku Singh from India's T20 World Cup squad as the ''toughest'' call, saying the in-from swashbuckler has ''done nothing wrong'' and it all came down to combinations. Rinku, Kolkata Knight Riders' big-hitting finisher from Aligarh, could not find a place in the 15-member squad as the think-tank preferred Chennai Super Kings' Shivam Dube over him. The exclusion of Rinku, who has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24 in T20Is for India, became a major talking point since the Indian team's announcement two days ago and has caused a massive furore on social media. ''It (not picking Rinku) is probably the toughest thing we have had to discuss. He has done nothing wrong, not even Shubman Gill for that matter. It is not his fault that he missed out. It's about combinations,'' Agarkar said during a press conference here. ''A couple of wrist spinners were included to give Rohit (Sharma) more options. There are two keepers, we needed an extra bowler. It's just unfortunate. He's in the reserves, so that tells you how close he came into being in the 15. But at the end of the day, you can only pick 15 players in the squad,'' Agarkar added. Rinku, who is not having a great IPL season as he is not getting to face enough balls, though made it to the list of reserves. Rinku had been fast-tracked into the Indian T20I team after a fantastic run in the IPL last year but this season, he has managed just 123 runs in nine matches with a strike rate of 150.00, whereas Gill, captaining Gujarat Titans this time, has aggregated 320 runs from 10 matches at a strike rate of 140.97. The left-handed Yashasvi Jaiswal has been preferred over Gill. Meanwhile Abhishek Nayar, the head of KKR Academy and assistant coach of the franchise, did not feel Rinku was out of form and whatever runs he has scored this IPL season for KKR have been crucial for the team. Nayar played a key role in shaping Rinku's career, especially when the batter was suffering from ACL (anterior cruciate ligament injury), and the former Mumbai cricketer also worked on his hitting skills. ''I would not agree (that it is about) IPL form. I think he has not played enough balls barring one-odd game wherein he has not got runs. He has got runs in every game which have been critical runs for us. The form has never been in question,'' Nayar backed his ward. ''When you look at any cricketer in world cricket or even in T20 cricket, sometimes the role you play doesn't justify what numbers you have at the end of the day. ''Just in terms of the role he plays for us and for any team, which is a finisher's role, you tend to play 8-10 balls and you look at how well he does in 8-10 balls and not how many runs he scored.'' Over the last few years, Nayar has established himself as a prominent coach in domestic and franchise cricket. ''If you go back and look at his stats and his strike rate in comparison to the balls he has played, I think you will get your answer right there. It's not a form problem at all,'' Nayar said of Rinku. Later on, after his press conference, India captain Rohit joined the Mumbai Indians squad for their pre-match training ahead of the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders. Rohit was involved in a group discussion which included Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat and even Gautam Gambhir when he spotted Rinku coming towards him. Rohit moved away from the group and spoke with Rinku for a while.

CBI Launches Probe into Alleged Land Grabbing by Trinamool Congress Leader in Sandeshkhali

Kolkata: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team visited Rajbari area of Sandeshkhali on Thursday to probe land grabbing allegations against Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan. The team met villagers who had alleged land grabbing and torture of women by former Trinamool Congress strongman Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates. A complainant from Rajbari said, Two years ago Sheikh Shahjahan and his close aid grabbed my land. I went to every police stations nearby me but they didn't responded. Panchayat demanded Rs 10,000 from me to deliver justice. Now I lodged complaint online on CBI portal. I wish I will get my land soon. Meanwhile, CBI has taken a significant step in its investigation into the attack on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Sandeshkhali and sent notices to two individuals, Sirajul Mir in the Akunji Para Mor area in Sandeshkhali and local TMC leader Aftar Mollah in Mollapara in Rampur closely associated with Sheikh Shahjahan. The notice asked them to appear before the CBI office in connection with the attack on the ED on January 5. Sheikh Shahjahan, a former TMC strongman, was accused of sexual violence and land grab by several women in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali. He was arrested on February 29, after 55 days on the run, in connection with a case related to the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials. The Calcutta High Court in the Sandeshkhali case said that the CBI in its report has mentioned huge volumes of land grabbing allegations and lack of proper cooperation from the state authorities. The Court also directed the state to deploy more staff to help with the investigation. Calcutta High Court chief justice division bench also allowed NHRC (National Human Rights Commission of India) as a party in Sandeshkhali case. The CBI have already started their investigation into the matter. The CBI at this point, doesn't want to reveal the contents of the report as the investigation is still on and it may harm the process. On Monday, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on West Bengal government's plea challenging Calcutta High Court order directing a CBI investigation into allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali, till July. West Bengal government moved the Supreme Court to challenge the Calcutta High Court's April 10 order for a CBI investigation into allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali. Earlier on April 25, following the Calcutta High Court order, the CBI registered an FIR against five people and unknown others in connection with the ongoing probe into cases concerning land grabs and crimes against women (sexual) in Sandeshkhali. The women of Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district came out on the streets earlier against the ruling TMC and Shahjahan, accusing the strongman and his aides of perpetrating gross excesses and atrocities on them while also gobbling up their land. Multiple women on the island accused Shajahan and his aides of land-grab and sexual assault under coercion. The Basirhat court had sent Shahjahan to CBI custody. After leaving the court, Shahjahan was seen in tears. The video was posted by BJP leader Amit Malviya on his social media account. Trinamool Congress Accuses Congress Leader of Promoting BJP Agenda

Kolkata: A video clip allegedly showing Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury suggesting it's better to vote for the BJP than TMC has sparked controversy in West Bengal. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned Chowdhury's statement, accusing him of lacking ideology and principles. The Trinamool Congress (TMC), an ally in the opposition bloc, strongly criticized Chowdhury's remarks, calling him out for promoting the BJP's agenda. Chowdhury's alleged statement surfaced during an election rally in Bengal's Murshidabad on Tuesday. The Congress party quickly dismissed the video as doctored and sought the intervention of the Election Commission. Jairam Ramesh, a Congress spokesperson, clarified that their primary goal is to reduce the BJP's influence in Bengal. He emphasized that although Congress and TMC are part of the INDIA bloc, they are not in a seat-sharing arrangement. The Trinamool Congress accused Chowdhury of being an agent of the BJP and held him responsible for obstructing the formation of the opposition INDIA bloc in the state. In response, Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee accused Chowdhury of preventing the coalition to strengthen the BJP's position. The controversy comes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in which the TMC won 22 out of 42 seats in 2019, while the BJP secured 17 seats, and Congress managed to secure only two seats. Bengali superstar Dev runs in Kolkata election vows to plant as many trees as votes received

Bengali superstar Dev runs in Kolkata election vows to plant as many trees as votes received Bengali superstar Dev filed his nomination as TMC's candidate for the Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal on Thursday. Deepak Adhikari, popularly known as Dev, is seeking re-election for a third consecutive term. He donated blood at a camp organized in the area in the morning, following which he filed the nomination papers. ''Blood banks are experiencing a crisis. Serving people (by donating blood) is the greatest job. I will urge people to donate blood and not shed blood. Donating blood means giving a new life to someone,'' he said after filing his nomination. Dev said he would plant trees equal to the number of votes he gets in the elections, and also urged people to take similar initiatives. ''This year, we are experiencing a record rise in the temperature. April has not been so hot in the last few years. So, I have taken this initiative of planting trees. If I get 9 lakh votes, I will plant 9 lakh trees,'' he said. The BJP has fielded another Bengali actor, Hiran Chatterjee -- the MLA of Kharagpur Sadar, against Dev, while the Congress-backed CPI candidate is Tapan Ganguly. Polling is scheduled in Ghatal on May 25.

Doesn't the color last long in your hair? Follow these simple tips

Hair color fading can be frustrating, especially when you invest time and money into achieving that perfect shade. However, several factors contribute to the fading of hair color over time. Understanding these factors is crucial to maintaining vibrant hair color for longer periods. 1. Hair Porosity What is Hair Porosity? Hair porosity refers to your hair's ability to absorb and retain moisture and color. It is determined by the condition of the outer layer of your hair, known as the cuticle. Impact on Hair Color Hair with high porosity tends to absorb color quickly but also loses it rapidly. On the other hand, low-porosity hair may have difficulty absorbing color, leading to uneven results. 2. Hair Care Routine Use of Harsh Products Frequent use of harsh shampoos and styling products can strip away the hair's natural oils and color, leading to faster fading. Solution: Opt for Color-Safe Products Choose shampoos, conditioners, and styling products specifically formulated for color-treated hair. These products are gentler and help preserve the vibrancy of your hair color. 3. Sun Exposure UV Damage Exposure to sunlight can cause hair color to fade prematurely due to UV damage. The sun's rays break down the pigments in your hair, leading to dullness and discoloration. Solution: Protect Your Hair Wear a hat or scarf when spending extended periods in the sun, and use hair products with UV filters to shield your hair from damage. 4. Water Quality Effects of Hard Water Hard water contains minerals like calcium and magnesium, which can build up on the hair shaft and interfere with color absorption. This can result in dull, faded hair color. Solution: Install a Water Softener Consider installing a water softener in your home to reduce the mineral content in your water. Alternatively, use a clarifying shampoo occasionally to remove mineral buildup from your hair. Tips for Prolonging Hair Color Now that we understand the factors contributing to hair color fading, let's explore some simple tips to help prolong the vibrancy of your hair color. 1. Choose the Right Hair Color Consider Semi-Permanent Options Semi-permanent hair colors tend to fade more gradually than permanent dyes. They are also gentler on the hair, making them a good option for those concerned about damage. 2. Avoid Frequent Washing Wash Your Hair Less Often Limit washing your hair to two or three times a week to prevent color from being stripped away by harsh detergents in shampoo. 3. Use Cool Water Rinse with Cold Water After shampooing and conditioning, rinse your hair with cool water to seal the hair cuticle and lock in moisture and color. 4. Minimize Heat Styling Reduce Heat Exposure Excessive heat from styling tools like blow dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can cause color fading. Minimize heat styling or use heat protectant products to shield your hair from damage. 5. Schedule Regular Touch-Ups Maintain Your Color Visit your hairstylist for regular touch-ups to refresh your hair color and keep it looking vibrant and consistent. Maintaining long-lasting hair color requires a combination of proper hair care techniques and lifestyle adjustments. By understanding the factors that contribute to color fading and implementing these simple tips, you can enjoy vibrant, beautiful hair for longer periods. IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians Hope To Script A Miracle As They Return Home For KKR Clash (Preview)

Kolkata Knight Riders: With their campaign in disarray following seven defeats in 10 matches, five-time winners Mumbai Indians return home after three successive away defeats in four games for their next three home matches in the IPL 2024, starting with a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. MI are currently tied for the bottom spot with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, both have six points from three wins -- they are placed ninth on NRR. Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, are second in the points table with 12 points from nine matches with 12 points. Though Mumbai have lost quite a lot of battles, the war is not over yet, they still have faint chances. They need a miracle to make it to the next stage this season. Set to meet KKR twice within eight days (they will play them again at the Eden Gardens on May 11), Hardik Pandya's MI will hope to win their remaining four matches and hope other results go in their favour. Four wins in their remaining games will take them to 14 points and keep alive their hopes of making it among the top four to make it to the playoffs. But considering their performance, they face a steep climb to the top as they face KKR twice besides Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants in their next four matches. All three teams are in contention for the playoff spots and have everything to play for as the tournament enters in the mad scramble for the playoff spots. At this moment, table toppers Rajasthan Royals seem in a comfortable position with 16 points from nine matches. Mumbai, on the other hand, have had an indifferent season so far, starting with three defeats and coming into Friday's clash with KKR after three losses in a row -- losing to Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. Their defeat in their last match against LSG was particularly disappointing as they were restricted to a paltry 144/7 in 20 overs and though their bowlers did fight back, a four-wicket loss really exposed all the problem areas in the squad. The batting unit, despite the presence of players like India captain and six-time IPL winner Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, considered the best player in this format, Tim David, Hardik Pandya and Romario Shepherd. Tilak Verma is currently their top scorer with 343 runs from 10 matches and a strike of 153.81 while Rohit Sharma is second with 315 runs in 10 innings with 105 not out as his best score. Despite the abundance of talent at their disposal, they have struggled for consistency and their batting has not been up to the mark. On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah is currently holding the Purple Cap with 14 wickets from 10 matches, the same as Mustafizur Rahman of Chennai Super Kings and Harshal Patel of Punjab Kings. MI's South African is not far behind with 13 wickets from nine matches. The rest of their bowlers have struggled for success. Coach Mark Boucher and skipper Pandya will be hoping that a return to their home ground will turn their fortunes once again. At the start of the league, they had come back to the Wankhede Stadium after three successive defeats and revived their campaign with three wins in four matches. With a typical Wankhede pitch awaiting them, Pandya will be hoping that his batters, especially Rohit, Ishan and Suryakumar find their mojo back and flourish on the home ground. Rohit had scored his second century in IPL at the Wankhede against CSK in a losing cause here earlier last month. Their top bowler, Bumrah had produced his best figures of 5-21 at the Wankhede and the team will be hoping for him to recreate the magic in the last three matches at home. Their opponents on Friday, KKR are currently with 12 points from nine matches. They have played quite well so far with openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt both scoring more than 350 runs so far. Narine has scored a hundred and two fifties while Phil Salt has struck four half-centuries so far. They have a strong middle order with the likes of skipper Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer has done reasonably well with Rinku Singh and Andre Russell reprising the role of finisher successfully on a couple of occasions. Narine has been their best bowler so far with 11 wickets from nine matches while Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana too have taken 11 wickets each. Rana, however, is not available for this match as he has been suspended by BCCI for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Rana was pulled up for breaching Article 2.5 -- a Level 1 offence -- in the clash with Delhi Capitals on Monday (April 29) and was fined 100 percent of his match fee and was suspended for one match. KKR will be banking on their batting might against MI on Friday. A victory in Friday's Match 51 of IPL 2024 will push KKR closer to the top spot while victory for their opponents will revive Mumbai Indians' faint hopes of reaching the play-offs. The two teams have played each other 32 times with Mumbai Indians winning 23 matches and KKR triumphing in nine. But on current form, Kolkata Knight Riders look favourite to win their 10th match in the head-to-head series and improve their chances of advancing to the playoffs. Squads: Mumbai Indians: Ishan Kishan(w), Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya(c), Nehal Wadhera, Tim David, Mohammad Nabi, Piyush Chawla, Luke Wood, Jasprit Bumrah, Nuwan Thushara, Naman Dhir, Shams Mulani, Dewald Brevis, Kumar Kartikeya, Shreyas Gopal, Harvik Desai, Gerald Coetzee, Romario Shepherd, Arjun Tendulkar, Shivalik Sharma, Anshul Kamboj, Akash Madhwal, Kwena Maphaka Kolkata Knight Riders: Philip Salt(w), Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, Shreyas Iyer(c), Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Dushmantha Chameera, Varun Chakaravarthy, Harshit Rana (suspended), Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Manish Pandey, Vaibhav Arora, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mitchell Starc, Allah Ghazanfar, Sakib Hussain, Sherfane Rutherford, Chetan Sakariya, Nitish Rana, Srikar Bharat. Match starts at 7:30 pm on Star Sports (TV) and JioCinema (mobile).

What action can be taken if the medicine is being sold in the market even after the license is suspended? Know every rule

In the realm of pharmaceuticals, the sale and distribution of medicines are governed by strict regulations to ensure public safety. However, situations may arise where medicines continue to be sold despite the suspension of their licenses. This article delves into the various rules and actions that can be taken in such scenarios. Licensing of Medicines (H1) Medicines undergo rigorous evaluation processes before they are granted licenses for sale and distribution. These licenses are typically issued by regulatory authorities such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States or the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the United Kingdom. Suspension of Medicine Licenses A medicine license can be suspended for various reasons, including concerns about safety, efficacy, or compliance with regulatory standards. Common reasons for suspension may include: Safety Concerns: If the medicine is found to pose risks to patients' health or safety. Quality Issues: Such as manufacturing defects or contamination. Non-Compliance: Failure to adhere to regulatory requirements or standards. Legal Ramifications When a medicine's license is suspended, it is illegal to continue selling or distributing it. Doing so can have severe legal consequences for all parties involved, including manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Regulatory Authorities Regulatory authorities play a crucial role in enforcing compliance with medicine licensing regulations. They have the authority to: Issue Notices: Notifying relevant parties about the suspension of a medicine's license. Conduct Investigations: To determine the extent of non-compliance and potential risks to public health. Impose Penalties: Including fines, product recalls, and legal action against violators. Actions Against Violators When medicines are found to be sold illegally after license suspension, regulatory authorities can take several actions: Cease and Desist Orders: Directing violators to stop selling the medicine immediately. Fines and Penalties: Imposing financial penalties on individuals or companies involved in the illegal sale. Product Recalls: Ordering the removal of the medicine from the market to prevent further harm to consumers. Legal Proceedings: Initiating legal action against violators, which may lead to criminal charges or civil lawsuits. Consumer Protection Ensuring consumer safety and protection is paramount. In cases where medicines are sold illegally, consumers should be informed promptly to prevent potential harm. Regulatory authorities often issue public advisories and warnings to alert consumers about the risks associated with the use of suspended medicines. Preventive Measures To prevent the illegal sale of medicines after license suspension, regulatory authorities and stakeholders can take proactive measures such as: Enhanced Monitoring: Increasing surveillance of the supply chain to detect unauthorized sales. Education and Awareness: Educating stakeholders about their responsibilities and the consequences of non-compliance. Streamlined Reporting: Implementing mechanisms for reporting suspected illegal sales promptly. In conclusion, the illegal sale of medicines after license suspension poses significant risks to public health and safety. Regulatory authorities must take swift and decisive action to enforce compliance and protect consumers. By understanding the rules and consequences associated with medicine licensing, stakeholders can contribute to a safer and more regulated pharmaceutical industry. Stay away from the poop of these birds, why did scientists say so

Birds are often a sight to behold, their chirping melodies captivating to anyone's ears. Waking up to the sounds of birds in the morning can instantly uplift one's mood, providing a refreshing start to the day. However, amidst the beauty of these creatures, there are some birds whose droppings pose a significant threat to human health. Warning from Experts According to a report by the Daily Star, Paul Blackhurst, Britain's head of pest control, warns that humans should exercise extreme caution around certain bird droppings. He emphasizes the importance of staying away from seagull droppings, which have become highly toxic and can potentially be fatal to anyone who comes into contact with them. It is not just a matter of a few days; avoiding these droppings is essential for weeks. This is because seagull feces can contain harmful E. coli and Salmonella bacteria, which can lead to life-threatening infections. Not Just Seagulls: Other Birds Pose Risks Too Scientists caution that dried bird droppings can become airborne and enter human bodies through inhalation, posing a serious health risk. This danger is exacerbated during certain seasons when numerous seagulls roam around residential areas, sometimes even nesting on rooftops. Many people create shelters for these birds on their properties, unknowingly inviting potential health hazards. Pigeons and Other Birds: Carriers of Disease A report reveals that an average bird carries more than 60 diseases and bacteria, making them potential carriers of deadly illnesses for humans. These birds host various parasites and insects that can cause problems upon direct contact. Scientists warn that pigeon droppings contain uric acid, which easily stains clothing and can corrode paint, posing a threat to infrastructure. While birds may symbolize freedom and beauty, their droppings can harbor unseen dangers for humans. It is crucial to take precautions and avoid direct contact with bird feces, especially from seagulls and pigeons. By staying vigilant and maintaining hygiene practices, we can mitigate the risks associated with these seemingly harmless creatures. IPL 2024: Brar & Chahar; Bairstow & Rossouw Help PBKS Register Comfortable Seven-wicket Win Over CSK (ld)

Impact Player Sameer Rizvi: Spinners Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar took two wickets each in economical bowling spells of 2-17 and 2-16, while Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw hit useful 40s each to help Punjab Kings register a seven-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. Brar and Chahar applied brakes on CSKs batting in the middle overs through their nagging line and length to return with collective figures of 4-33 in eight overs and an economy rate of 4.25, while conceding no boundaries, as the hosts were restricted to a below-par 162/7. In reply, Bairstow and Rossouw hit 46 and 43 respectively while sharing a 64-run stand for the second wicket. Shashank Singh and Sam Curran ensured PBKS completed the chase with seven wickets in hand and 13 balls to spare. PBKS are now at seventh place in the points table, after pulling off their fifth victory in a row over CSK, who were hampered by dew and losing Deepak Chahar to hamstring injury just two balls into the second innings. For CSK, barring captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's 62, other batters struggled to get on top of PBKS bowlers on a fresh red-soil pitch having turn and bounce for spinners. After losing no wicket in power-play, CSK had a platform set for a big total. But Brar and Chahar turned the game on its head by bowling stump to stump line and allowing the odd ball to get some turn to set the base for PBKS outclassing CSK in their home den. Pushed into batting first, Gaikwad was stylish in punching and ramping Arshdeep Singh for a brace of fours in the second over. Though Arshdeep got a change of ends, he was hit for 14 runs in the fifth over Rahane slammed him over point, while Gaikwad cut him twice through the same region to take three boundaries off it. Rahane brought out the pull, cut and punch off Curran on the last three deliveries of the sixth over, and take CSK to 55/0 at the end of power-play, making it the first time in this season of them not losing a wicket in the six-over phase. But once Curran brought spinners on, PBKS were able to put in an almighty squeeze on CSK, who couldnt get a boundary in the middle overs. Rahane holed out to deep mid-wicket off Brar, who trapped a sweeping Shivam Dube plumb lbw for a golden duck. Chahar joined in by trapping Ravindra Jadeja lbw, who was looking to play it on the leg-side. Impact Player Sameer Rizvis laborious innings ended when he was caught by a sliding third man, while trying to ramp off Harshal Patel. But Gaikwad continued to stay afloat, getting his fifty in 44 balls by hammering Curran over long-on for six and pulled the left-arm pacer for another maximum to take 15 runs off the 16th over. Moeen Ali lofted Arshdeep for six and four respectively, before the pacer bounced back by castling Gaikwad with a yorker. The call to get Chahar bowl the 19th over paid off when the leg-spinner castled Moeen. MS Dhoni powered a four and six off a wayward Arshdeep in the final over to take CSK past 160, before being run-out on the last ball, also ending his streak of seven unbeaten knocks in the competition. Chasing 163, Prabhsimran Singh hit a 10-ball 13 before a leading edge on his flick was caught by mid-off, giving Richard Gleeson his maiden IPL wicket. But Rilee Rossouw was unstoppable from the get go taking consecutive fours each off Gleeson and Mustafizur Rahman. From the other end, Bairstow cut and pulled Shardul Thakur for a brace of fours as PBKS reached 52/1 at the end of power-play. Post that, Bairstow was severe on Jadeja in his opening over, cutting at the last moment and pulling powerfully to take two fours. It felt like Bairstow began from where he left in his 48-ball 100 against Kolkata Knight Riders last week seen from him pulling and slog-sweeping off Moeen for six and four respectively. After cutting Jadeja for another four, Bairstows knock ended when a short ball from Dube, bowling for the first time in IPL 2024, was ramped behind to keeper. But Rossouw pulled him for six over square leg, followed a four cut through cover to take 14 from the tenth over. Shardul Thakur came in to castle Rossouw with a full toss, and he could have got Shashanks wicket if Daryl Mitchell hadnt made mess of a chance at mid-off. Shashank and Curran hit five boundaries between themselves while sharing an unbroken 50-run stand off 37 balls for the fourth wicket to ensure PBKS got another win on the road, with the winning runs coming off an overthrow. Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 162/7 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 62, Ajinkya Rahane 29; Rahul Chahar 2-16, Harpreet Brar 2-17) lost to Punjab Kings 163/3 in 17.5 overs (Jonny Bairstow 46, Rilee Rossouw 43; Shivam Dube 1-14, Richard Gleeson 1-30) by seven wickets

We deserved to go to final, says Yoell van Nieff as Mumbai City FC prepare for Mohun Bagan Super Giant clash

We deserved to go to final, says Yoell van Nieff as Mumbai City FC prepare for Mohun Bagan Super Giant clash Mumbai City FC overcame FC Goa with a 5-2 aggregate in a two-leg Indian Super League (ISL) semi-final, setting the stage for an exciting final against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on May 4 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Midfielder Yoell van Nieff was a key contributor to Mumbai City FC's semi-final victory. The Dutchman played a crucial role in the opening goal as his set-piece delivery found Rahul Bheke, whose attempt was cleared off the line, only for Jorge Diaz to score the opener. Playing his debut ISL season with the Islanders, Nieff took on the challenging role that Ahmed Jahouh had previously held for Mumbai City FC. This was no small task, given Jahouh's reputation as one of the best midfielders in the league. Nieff had to adapt to a new team, a new continent, and the unique demands of his position. Despite these challenges, the 30-year-old has proven to be a standout player for Mumbai City FC, showcasing his expertise in controlling the tempo and his precision in set-piece delivery. Nieff has become an integral part of the Islanders' midfield, demonstrating his value through consistent performances. His statistics reflect his impact: Nieff has recorded 723 successful passes, averaging 45 passes per game with an 83% accuracy rate. Additionally, he has won 83 duels (21 aerial), made 15 interceptions, and completed 130 recoveries in his 19 appearances for Mumbai City FC. However, in a setback for Mumbai City FC will miss Van Nieff in the high-pressure final against Mohun Bagan SG due to a yellow card received during the FC Goa match. After the semi-final, Van Nieff spoke with indiansuperleague.com, sharing his thoughts on the semi-final against FC Goa, the upcoming final in Kolkata, and other insights into the team's journey to the ISL final. Van Nieff spoke about the takeaway from your recent defeat against Mohun Bagan SG in Kolkata, and how his team rectified those mistakes in the FC Goa game. I think we also learned from the (last) Kolkata game (when we played there) for the Shield. We learned from this as well. Of course, we were 1-0 up, but we just wanted to approach it like every other game. But they (FC Goa) did really well. We had almost no options for playing football. So, the pressure from them was quite good. It was really hard for us. I think we were a bit nervous in the beginning because even we couldn't find the option, but I think after all, we came slowly into the game and did better, especially in the second half... We had a bit more space. I think we took advantage of this, and then at the end, you could see (the final result). Even I'm happy that I could be involved with the set pieces. I think they (the set pieces) were really good today, so I'm really happy with that. And, yeah, the support was also amazing today. That helped us last. In the end, I think we deserved to win and go to the final, Van Nieff told indiansuperleague.com. Van Nieff further spoke about team's overall performance this season and the Indian players. We know we have a really good team. I think even though we had setbacks this season, we deserve more. Even with all the setbacks, we have stuck together. Our togetherness is really strong, and it's one of our key qualities. Even with the setbacks, I think we just had a really good season. But, of course, it will be a better season if we come home with a trophy. In my opinion, we have the best wingers in the league for India as well. And I think they showed, especially (Lallianzuala) Chhangte and Vikram (Partap Singh), who have scored a lot, the Mumbai City FC player said. In the end, the footballer hailed his teammate Lallianzuala Chhangte. Chhangte is leading with overall goals and assists. I think the numbers are really good. And I'm personally really happy with them because they helped us a lot during the season. Not only these two, but Bipin (Singh) is also really important... We did it as a team because we are a team. Maybe some people are more important for defence, and some other people can be really important for offence. I think the balance was really good this season. It's a bit unfair to point out only one player. I think we are doing really well as a team. That's the most important thing, Van Nieff concluded. (ANI)

Heatwave to Persist in South Bengal Until May 5: Meteorological Department Warns

Heatwave to Persist in South Bengal Until May 5: Meteorological Department Warns The Met department on Wednesday said heatwave conditions are very likely to continue till May 5 over south Bengal, which has been reeling under a scorching sun with Kalaikunda recording the state's highest temperature at 45.2 degrees Celsius. The weather office, however, held out a ray of hope for the situation to change from May 6 with the possibility of rains in the coastal districts, which will spread to other parts of Gangetic West Bengal gradually. Heatwave conditions will continue in many places of south Bengal till May 5, with severe heatwave very likely in Bankura, Birbhum, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman districts, the Met department said. It said that there will not be any large change in maximum temperature during the next two days and thereby it will fall gradually in the subsequent three days in the region. The severe weather conditions in the southern and western districts of West Bengal are being caused by dry westerly winds and strong solar insolation, the Met said. Kalaikunda in Paschim Medinipur district recorded West Bengal's highest temperature on Wednesday at 45.2 degrees Celsius, while Jhargram followed closely at 44.5 degrees Celsius, the Met said. In Panagarh and Purulia, the mercury touched the 44.1 degrees mark. Kolkata recorded 42 degrees Celsius as its highest temperature on the day while neighbouring Salt Lake was a little cooler at 41.1 degrees, the Met said. Among the other places which recorded above-40-degree Celsius temperatures are Medinipur (43.4), Bankura (43.3), Krishnanagar (42.2), Bardhaman (42), Asansol (42.3), and Sriniketan (41.8), the Met data said.

TMC State General Secretary Kunal Ghosh Removed; States Desire to Stay in Party

TMC State General Secretary Kunal Ghosh Removed; States Desire to Stay in Party Hours after Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh shared a stage with a BJP Lok Sabha candidate and praised him, the TMC on Wednesday removed him from the post of state general secretary for making statements not aligning with the party. Declining to spell out his next move, Ghosh said he would like to ''continue in the party in future.'' The former Rajya Sabha member who has been seeking more prominence for next-generation leaders, said he had already expressed his desire to resign as party spokesperson and state general secretary in March. The party then accepted his resignation as spokesperson but asked him to continue with the other post. ''Kunal Ghosh has been expressing views that don't align with the party. Mr Ghosh was previously relieved from his role as party spokesperson. Now he has been removed from the position of general secretary of the state organization,'' the TMC said in a statement. In the statement signed by TMC Rajya Sabha party leader Derek O'Brien, the party also asked media outlets not to conflate Ghosh's views with those of the party, warning that doing so might invite legal action. ''It is important to clarify that these are his personal opinions.... Only statements issued from the AITC (All India Trinamool Congress) headquarters should be considered the official position of the party,'' it said. Reacting to his removal, Ghosh said, ''There is no point in saying I am being removed as I had already put in my papers as party's state general secretary and spokesperson.'' He lamented that the party decided to clip his wings when he was ''working as a loyal soldier of the party.'' ''It is ironic that the opposition leaders are happy that Kunal Ghosh has been asked not to speak out for his own party. I was with the party, I am with the TMC and would like to continue in the party,'' he said. Despite his removal from the post of party spokesperson, he has been holding press conferences regularly from the party headquarters during the ongoing Lok Sabha election campaign. A senior TMC leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, described Ghosh's removal as a ''calibrated punishment,'' indicating that his removal as state spokesperson in March was a warning, and this removal as state general secretary is the final action. Ghosh did not take part in TMC's Kolkata North Lok Sabha constituency Sudip Bandopadhyay's rally, but attended a blood donation programme where BJP nominee Tapas Ray was present. At the programme, Ghosh said, ''Tapas Ray is a true leader. His doors are always open for party workers and people. I have known him for several decades. Unfortunately, our paths are now different... I am hopeful that the elections will be free and fair, and that no unscrupulous means will be used to retain the seat. Let the people cast their votes freely,'' he added. Ray, a four-term TMC MLA, joined the BJP in March after the party re-nominated its incumbent MP Sudip Bandopadhyay in the Kolkata North seat. The BJP then fielded Ray against Bandopadhyay. Reacting to Ghosh's expulsion from his post, Ray said, ''Whom they will suspend or expel is their internal matter. I have nothing to say about it. But it proves TMC doesn't believe in courtesy in politics.'' Ghosh, considered close to TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, had kicked off a storm this year that the old guards in the party need to know when to step aside for the next generation. He had also accused a section of old guards, including Sudip Bandopadhyay, of being hand in gloves with the BJP. Following this, Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee herself issued a stern warning instructing party leaders to abstain from publicly discussing differences, emphasizing that any violation may lead to disciplinary action. The controversy erupted in November last year when Banerjee advocated respecting senior members and dismissed the notion that old leaders should retire from active politics. TMC national general secretary and Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek, endorsed a retirement age in politics and cited a decline in work efficiency and productivity with advancing age. A journalist by profession in the vernacular media, Ghosh's rise and fall in the TMC has been a matter of debate. A vocal critic of the Left Front regime, Ghosh was rewarded with a Rajya Sabha nomination by the TMC in 2012. However, after the Saradha Chit fund scam bubble burst in 2013, Ghosh, then CEO of the Saradha media group, openly clashed with the TMC. He was arrested in November 2013 in connection with the Saradha Chit fund scam and was subsequently suspended by the party. Later, after the CBI took over the investigation, Ghosh continued to speak out against the leadership. In 2016, he was granted bail by the court. In July 2020, he was appointed TMC's spokesperson, and in June 2021, he was appointed the party's state general secretary.

TMC Removes Kunal Ghosh from State General Secretary Post

Kolkata: West Bengal's ruling Trinamul Congress removed its former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh from state general secretary's post in the party on Wednesday hours after he shared the dais with North Kolkata BJP candidate Tapas Roy at an event in the city and praised his role as an MLA when he was in TMC earlier. TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien said in a statement, Recently, Mr. Kunal Ghosh has been expressing views that do not align with those of the party. It is important to clarify that these are his personal opinions and should not be attributed to the party. Only statements issued from AITC headquarters should be considered the official position of the party. He added, Mr. Ghosh was previously relieved from his role as party spokesperson. Now, he has been removed from the position of General Secretary of the state organization. We urge all media outlets not to conflate his views with those of the party, as doing so may necessitate legal action. The TMC statement came after Mr Ghosh, who had wished to quit as party's state general secretary in March, attended a blood donation camp with Mr Roy at ward no 38 in North Kolkata in the morning. Mr Ghosh told the gathering, Mr Roy served the people as long as he was people's representative. His doors remained open to public day and night. People got him whenever they called him. Let them decide who they want to elect now. Hitting back to Mr O'Brien over his removal, Mr Ghosh sarcastically called him a quizmaster and wondered, I want to know from him when I had sought relief from the post. How can he make the statement about my removal from the post which I already wished to quit?

IPL 2024: Unchanged PBKS Win Toss, Elect To Bowl First Against CSK

Chennai Super Kings: Punjab Kings have won the toss and elected to bowl first against defending champions Chennai Super Kings, who will be playing without fast-bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande, in Match 49 of IPL 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, here on Wednesday evening. While CSK are at fourth place in the points table with 10 points from nine games, PBKS are placed at eighth place with six points from matches. PBKS, who set a record for highest chase ever in T20s by chasing down 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders, have a 4-0 record in their last four matches against CSK in the IPL. After winning the toss, PBKS captain Sam Curran said his playing eleven is unchanged, which means there is still no Shikhar Dhawan. Looks like a good surface (to bowl first), new wicket and we're excited after that last match. An amazing stadium and an amazing crowd, we'll have to start well and take early wickets. We'll take the confidence from that chase of 261. It's just about fight and determination, they're a good team, but we need to be brave. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad said while Pathirana has a slight niggle, Deshpande isn't well. In place of the duo, Shardul Thakur and Richard Gleeson, the England fast-bowler, drafted in as a replacement for injured Devon Conway, are included. Gleeson is making his IPL debut through Wednesdays match, which is also final game of this season for left-arm fast-bowler Mustafizur Rahman, as he will link up with Bangladesh team for the T20Is against Zimbabwe. We would have fielded first, but we weren't exactly sure. Always tough defending here with a lot of dew, but the fact that we won by 78 runs shows a lot about the team. We'll have to get there early and make a good score. Every game is important, said Gaikwad. Playing XIs Chennai Super Kings: Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Daryl Mitchell, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Richard Gleeson and Mustafizur Rahman Substitutes: Sameer Rizvi, Mukesh Choudhary, Simarjeet Singh, Shaik Rasheed and Prashant Solanki Punjab Kings: Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran (captain), Rilee Rossouw, Shashank Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper), Ashutosh Sharma, Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar and Arshdeep Singh Substitutes: Prabhsimran Singh, Liam Livingstone, Rishi Dhawan, Vidhwath Kaverappa and Harpreet Singh Bhatia

Pathan And Kaif Back Jaiswal To Be Rohits Opening Partner For India In T20 WC

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium: Former India cricketers Irfan Pathan and Mohammad Kaif have backed young Yashasvi Jaiswal to be captain Rohit Sharmas opening partner for India in the upcoming Mens T20 World Cup, to be held in West Indies and USA from June 1. Kohli has been leading run-charts in the IPL 2024 as an opener for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but him opening with Rohit for India in the T20 World Cup could result in teams having left-arm fast-bowler and left-arm spinner match-up. However, Pathan thinks Jaiswal opening with Rohit will help India tackle this match-up in the T20 World Cup. Its a question which has been floating around a lot. It should be Yashasvi Jaiswal as he being a left-hander, what happens is, a team from a bowling point of view, will start with a left-arm spinner and when that happens, you can actually play these two batters. If Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli open, as theres been a lot of talk about it, you can keep them quiet for a certain period of time. If you do that, the game goes away, especially at the start and this is where a left-handed batter in Yashasvi Jaiswal comes into the picture. Hes aggressive and will take on the threat of left-arm spinner as well. So, I think Yashasvi should open with Rohit Sharma, said Pathan while replying to an IANS query in the latest episode of Star Sports Press Room show. The Rohit-Jaiswal combination though, will also result in Kohli batting at number three, which would mean his struggles against spin in the post power-play phase could resurface. But Kaif believes Kohlis previous stupendous success for India in ICC tournaments at number three is still a very big factor. I would see Jaiswal and Rohit opening, as Kohli has to be there at number three. Though he opens in the IPL, Kohli has done well in ICC events at number three. You need someone who has experience at number three and can bat through. With Yashasvi opening and Kohli in the dugout, there will be pressure on the opposition team that Virat is still to come out to bat. If he opens and the opposition gets him out, then it will be a big confidence booster for them. Jaiswal will attack from the first ball and Rohit Sharma also attacks in power-play, then it should be this way: Jaiswal, Rohit and Virat Kohli at number three, he added. Pathan, the Player of the Match in Indias 2007 T20 World Cup final win over Pakistan in Johannesburg, was left disappointed over the non-inclusion of Rinku Singh and Ravi Bishnoi in the 15-member squad. Rinku, an in-form finisher for India in 15 T20I since his debut last year, is placed in the traveling reserves. I am very disappointed that Rinku Singh is not there. It's because Rinku Singh was playing a crucial role in finishing the game he did it for his franchise (Kolkata Knight Riders) last year and when he played for India, he did that role as well. Once you have a strike-rate of 170+ and have an average close to 60-70, and then not be picked, then you will be very disappointed. Bishnoi, I thought, despite that number six ranking, misses out to a master spinner like Chahal, though hes got that fielding skill too. So, these were the two things I had in my mind on seeing this team. At the same time, Pathan reckons India has to play their cricket in feisty fashion if they are to end a more than a decade drought of World Cup victory. The guys, who have been selected, have to perform when the pressure time comes in. I am not worried about the first half; it's about when the knockout matches will happen this is where I want the Indian team to play fearless cricket which in the last two World Cups 50-over and 20-over in Australia we missed out on that. Kaif agreed with Pathans views and felt Indias real examination will be to win knockout matches, something which they havent been able to do yet. Its a very balanced side, but this is not the IPL, where you play 14 league matches and come back to win the trophy even after losing games. In the World Cup, you will meet weaker teams in the initial phase of the tournament till you meet teams like Pakistan and England in the semi-finals. You need to win two big matches to win the trophy and are you ready for that big moment? India havent done that in the past and thats the real challenge for Rohit Sharma. India will begin their Men's T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. India, the 2007 Men's T20 World Cup winners, are in Group A alongside Pakistan, Canada and tournament co-hosts USA.

TMC axes Kunal Ghosh from Bengal general secretary post for sharing dais with BJP candidate

KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday removed former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh from the post of Bengal general secretary for making statements that did not align with the party. The development comes hours after Ghosh shared a stage with the BJP's Kolkata North candidate, Tapas Ray and heaped praise on him. A statement signed by party MP Derek OBrien said, Kunal Ghosh has been expressing views that do not align with those of the party. It is important to clarify that these are his personal opinions and should not be attributed to the party. Only statements issued from AITC headquarters should be considered the party's official position, the statement continued. According to the party statement, Ghosh was previously relieved from his role as party spokesperson and now has been removed from the position of General Secretary of the state organisation. Ghosh also missed a rally by the partys candidate from the Kolkata North Lok Sabha constituency, Sudip Bandopadhyay, for a blood donation programme, which was attended by Ray. Tapas Ray is a true mass leader. His doors are always open for party workers and people. I have known him for several decades. Unfortunately, our paths are now different despite our best efforts to retain him, Ghosh had said after he shared the stage with Ray. Earlier, Ray had accused the TMC of showing narrow politics, if it were to remove Ghosh for sharing the stage with him. I am hopeful that the elections will be free and fair, and no unscrupulous means will be used to retain the seat. Let the people cast their votes freely, he had added. Ghosh, despite his removal from the post of party spokesperson, has also been holding press conferences regularly from the party headquarters.
