Delhi: Trio Arrested for Railway Ticket Scalping

Delhi: Trio Arrested for Railway Ticket Scalping Three people were arrested for allegedly impersonating Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) and duping Bihar-based people under the pretext of getting their railway tickets confirmed, officials said on Friday. The accused were identified as, Santosh (27), Ashutosh (26), and Afroz Ansari (37), all residents of Bihar, they said. ''These accused took cash, debit cards and other valuable articles by duping innocent people especially the railway passengers hailing from Bihar by representing themselves as TTEs, on the pretext of getting their railway tickets confirmed,'' Additional Commissioner of Police (crime) Sanjay Bhatia said. The officer further said that on April 29, a tip-off was received about one of the accused. A trap was laid near IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon and Santosh was apprehended. During interrogation, the accused admitted that he along with his associates, Rakesh Paswan and Afroz duped a person while they were travelling in the metro on the pretext of getting his railway ticket confirmed, said the officer. ''They (accused) took him to various places near AIIMS and took all of his belongings. Later at his instance, Santosh and Afroz were apprehended from Dabri in Delhi,'' said the officer, adding that they were involved in a total of 11 cases of cheating and theft registered at different police stations in Delhi.

Took my Jimny to Himachal with 4 adults & luggage: 10 observations

BHPian prateekswarup recently shared this with other enthusiasts. I've almost completed 6k in my Jimny MT Alpha White. Hence, I thought it was a good time to write in a mini-review of the same. My previous vehicles have included a Grand Vitara 2.0, Polo GT TSI and currently a Mitsubishi Outlander. Prologue I have followed the Jimny launch with keen interest but did not bite the bullet once the prices were announced. However, with the Thunder Edition and yearly discounts, I finally took the plunge and bought one on 24th Dec'23. Usage Till Now As soon as I bought it, I took it with 4 adults and 1 kid to Mashobra in Himachal for 5 5-day trip. Post that it has been my daily driver for the office commute in Gurgaon (~11kms one way). In the last week of Mar'24, I recently completed a 2,000km road trip to Spiti Valley from Gurgaon. We were 2 adults and a boot full of luggage along with water, petrol jerrycan, the works. Initial Impressions My Jimny is stock - no changes in tyres, no accessories except the rear defogger wire protectors. I wanted to have a pristine driving experience for a bit before I started looking at mods. The one change that I have made is adding a GAN tuning chip to the OBD port that gives better performance & drivability. Putting down a few points after 6k of drivingInitially, I felt that the gears were a little hard, but the gearbox-clutch has smoothened out post 3.5kThe suspension setup is lovely and is a boon in Gurugram's pot-holed roads. In the hills, it has taken the bad roads with aplomb. At high speeds, on speed breakers or cornering you do feel the rear step out a bit and initially it was a bit unnerving but now I've understood it better.Engine braking is really good and the more one drives this in the hills, the more you begin to start using the same. The high-rev nature of the engine puts a smile on your face. I kept the revs above 2k on my hill drives and hardly ever felt the loss of power. There were patches and steep inclines where you needed to shift to 1st to get momentum, but almost all the other cars in our convoy also struggled. This is where I feel a little more torque would make the Jimny outstanding. The stock tyres are adequate. On rough roads around Kaza, I did get sidewall puncture. Other Jimny's in the convoy had 215s Contis and 235 Yokos and they fared better. But for now, even with river and snow off-roading, the stock tyres felt adequate. An upgrade to 215s is on the cards in the near future.Cabin storage for small items is abysmal. I managed to put some soft foam sheets on the front door pockets to help slide in a phone without rattling and damage. Cupholders get used. The front grab handle with the leatherette wrap also helps in holding the passenger phone. Apart from these changes, I do feel the need to add more storage options to the front. The rear seat belt warning is a pain. I do not want to tamper with airbags deployment and keep them buckled in when not in use.Boot storage is adequate and swallows up 2 mid-size suitcases and 2-3 duffle bags with ease.Traction control is quite aggressiveAuto-start-stop in the hills can get intrusive. In city traffic, it's easy to use.I love the size and footprint along with the commanding view of the road. It is small enough to get through most gaps, narrow hill roads and offers a very old-school SUV experience. I learnt my driving on a Gypsy and it has a similar feel.Letting a Few Pictures do the talking: Read BHPian comments for more insights and information.

Delhi-NCR Schools Face Mass Bomb Threats, Turned Hoax

New Delhi: At least 100 schools in the Delhi-NCR area received identical bomb threats by email on Wednesday, triggering mass evacuations and large-scale searches as panicked parents rushed to pick up their children. The threat was declared a hoax as nothing objectionable was found during searches. The Union home ministry said the bomb threats turned out to be a hoax. The Delhi government has, meanwhile, issued an advisory to schools asking them to ensure that emails received at their official email addresses are checked timely. Police sources said the email the schools received had the same source, suspected to be sent from Russia, aimed at creating panic. They added it was also possible that culprits may have masked their identity using the DarkNet. The special cell anti-terror unit of the Delhi police will investigate the bomb threat. The case is being registered with the special cell and a dedicated team will be formed to conduct the investigation. The matter is related to national security. It needs a deeper probe, the official said. The police will also probe foreign involvement, including of the Islamic State. Some schools of Delhi received emails regarding bomb threats. The Delhi police has conducted thorough checks of all such schools as per protocol, the Delhi police said in a post on X. Nothing objectionable has been found. It appears that these calls seem to be a hoax. We request the public not to panic and maintain peace, it said. The police said the content of the email to every school was the same, adding that it was sent from a user with email id, sawariim@mail.Ru. Kill them wherever you meet and drive them out of the places from which they drove you. There are many explosive devices in the school... reads the identical email sent to all schools. The investigation so far has revealed that Sawariim (clashing of the swords) is an Arabic word, which has been used by the Islamic State since 2014 to spread Islamist propaganda. Thus, the police is investigating if there is a conspiracy of any organisation behind these threatening emails Sources claimed that a single IP address was used to send the email to all schools. The police received at least 131 PCR calls regarding the bomb while the Delhi Fire Service got over 109 calls from different schools. They started receiving calls about the bomb threat at 6 am, an officer said. An official said that DFS also received calls even after noon and firefighters are still on the ground. Multiple private schools in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurgaon also received the bomb threat, but the local police dismissed them as a hoax. The bomb threat was received in 16 schools in Outer district, 24 private schools in East Delhi, 18 schools in South Delhi, 21 schools in West Delhi and 10 schools in Shahdara, four in Northeast Delhi and several schools in other areas too. Special CP (Crime) Ravinder Yadav said: These emails were received in several schools. Some hospitals also received these emails on Tuesday. Thorough checking was done Even if it was a hoax call, we cannot take chances. We will conduct an investigation. Earlier in the day, the Union home ministry said there was no need to panic as the threat appeared to be a hoax. It said the Delhi police and security agencies were taking all the necessary steps as per protocol, it said. The Delhi police said it has conducted a thorough check of all schools that received the bomb threat but found nothing. Delhi lieutenant-governor V.K. Saxena visited one school and said that the Delhi police has traced the origin of the threat emails. Delhi education minister Atishi said nothing was found in the schools and requested parents not to panic. We are in constant touch with the police and schools. Would request parents and citizens not to panic. The school authorities will be in touch with parents wherever needed, Atishi said in a post on X. Parents and guardians rushed to the schools to pick up their children. The school administrations made announcements on the microphone as parents rushed to collect their wards. Fire tenders, ambulances and lines of police vehicles were seen on standby outside the schools, while bomb detection teams and bomb disposal squads were conducting searches inside the schools.

Congress faces backlash from 'ignored' contender in Gurgaon LS seat selection

Congress faces backlash from 'ignored' contender in Gurgaon LS seat selection The Congress on Tuesday announced the candidature of senior party leader Raj Babbar from the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat. Minutes later, Congress leader Ajay Singh Yadav, a contender for the seat, hit out at the Haryana unit of the party over a ''deep-rooted'' conspiracy ''to crush senior leaders''. Babbar's name was announced a day after the nomination process began for all the 10 seats in Haryana where polling will be held in the sixth phase on May 25. From Gurgaon, former Haryana Minister Yadav was also a contender. As Babbar's name was announced by the party, Yadav took to X to express his unhappiness. ''I will abide by the decision of the National leadership. But there is a deep-rooted conspiracy of few congress Haryana state leaders to crush the senior Congress leaders,'' Yadav, who is the party's chairman of the OBC department, said without taking any names. ''I am and will always work for the Congress Party,'' Yadav added. With Babbar's announcement, the Congress has announced candidates for all the nine seats it is contesting in Haryana. The Kurukshetra seat is being fought by the Aam Aadmi Party, a constituent of the opposition INDIA bloc. It was being speculated that the party would field Babbar from Gurgaon where BJP veteran and Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh is seeking re-election. Yadav's son is Congress' sitting MLA from Rewari. Considered Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda's bete noire, Yadav is not the only leader who has been ignored. While Kiran Choudhary, a sitting MLA of the Congress, was eyeing a ticket for her daughter Shruti Choudhary from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh seat, Birender Singh's son Brijendra Singh was a ticket hopeful from the Hisar seat. Birender Singh, a former Union minister, and Brijendra Singh, the outgoing Lok Sabha MP from Hisar, had left the BJP recently and joined the Congress. Most of the nine Congress candidates who have got tickets in Haryana for the May 25 polls are loyalists of former chief minister Hooda. At a press conference here on Monday, Hooda and state Congress chief Udai Bhan had said that no party leader is upset when asked about reports that senior leader Kiran Choudhary and Birender Singh were unhappy. Hooda and Bhan had maintained that the final decision to allot tickets is made by the party's high command. The BJP had earlier targeted the Congress over alleged infighting in its state unit and claimed it had delayed the announcement of candidates. Last week, the Congress had announced the names of eight of its candidates from Haryana. Former Union minister Kumari Selja has been fielded from Sirsa and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda from Rohtak. The party's Haryana youth wing president Divanshu Budhiraja has been fielded from the Karnal seat against former state chief minister and BJP candidate Manohar Lal Khattar. The ruling BJP named its candidates for six Lok Sabha seats in Haryana on March 13, three days before general elections were announced. It named the remaining four candidates on March 24.

Congress Announces Candidates for Gurgaon and Kangra: Raj Babbar and Anand Sharma Respectively

Congress Announces Candidates for Gurgaon and Kangra: Raj Babbar and Anand Sharma Respectively The Congress on Tuesday fielded actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar from the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat in Haryana and former Union minister Anand Sharma from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. Satpal Raizada, a former MLA from Himachal Pradesh's Una, has been fielded by the Congress from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat in the state and will contest the general elections against BJP candidate and Union Minister Anurag Thakur. The Congress also fielded local Mumbai Congress leader Bhushan Patil from the Mumbai North constituency in Maharashtra, who will take on Union Minister Piyush Goyal from the key seat. Anand Sharma, who has been a prominent member of the G23 grouping within the Congres which raised questions on the Congress leadership, will take on BJP's state vice-president Rajiv Bhardwaj from the Kangra seat. The BJP had replaced its sitting MP Kishan Kapoor with Bhardwaj this time. This is the first Lok Sabha election that Sharma will be contesting. In 1982, he had contested the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election from Shimla but lost to BJP's Daulat Ram Chauhan. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha for the first time in April 1984 and has been a member of the Upper House of Parliament for four terms. He was a Union minister during the UPA government under Manmohan Singh and was a deputy leader of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha till he retired in 2022. Babbar will take on BJP leader and Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh from Gurgaon. Singh has been representing the Gurgaon seat for three consecutive terms. He represented the Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat in 1998 and 2004 as a Congress MP and won from Gurgaon in 2009 on a Congress ticket. He then switched over to the BJP and won the seat in 2014 and 2019. Polling in the Mumbai North constituency will be held on May 20 and in Haryana's Gurgaon on May 25 in the sixth round. Voting in Himachal Pradesh will be held on June 1 in the last phase of elections.

Ltd. While Delhi-NCR, Kolkata and Bangalore witnessed a significant decline in luxury segment housing, other major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai recorded a surge in the same segment. During the period from Q1 2023 to Q1 2024, Delhi-NCR saw a 38.83 per cent decline in luxury segment housing, while Kolkata and Bangalore recorded a 36.63 per cent and 85.71 per cent decrease respectively. On the other hand, Pune witnessed a substantial 78.5 per cent increase. Hyderabad experienced a notable 52.5 per cent rise, Chennai saw a 33.33 per cent increase and Mumbai recorded a 13.5 per cent growth in the luxury segment housing market CBRE's report 'India Market Monitor Q1 2024', revealed that the luxury segment housing (units priced at Rs 4 crore and above) recorded a 10 per cent year-on-year sales growth during January to March 2024. This segment accounted for about 5 per cent of the overall residential unit sales during this period, with a significant increase of nearly 64 per cent year-on-year in new luxury segment unit launches. Mumbai maintains its stronghold as the leading luxury segment market, contributing over 40 per cent of the country's total luxury inventory in Jan-Mar '24. The city, known for its attraction to high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs), boasts premium locations such as Altamount Road, Nepean Sea Road, and Bandra (West), where average ticket sizes range from INR 20 to 60+ crore. Delhi-NCR follows closely, representing over 25 per cent of the luxury inventory, with luxury properties concentrated in areas like Golf Links and Prithviraj Road, typically priced between Rs 40 to 60+ crore. Gurgaon has emerged as a luxury market within the region, with areas such as DLF Phase I/II witnessing ticket sizes between Rs 10 to 20 crore. Hyderabad claims the third spot with nearly 10 per cent share of the country's luxury inventory, experiencing growth driven by a pro-business environment. Areas like Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills report average ticket sizes ranging from Rs 20 to over 40 crore. Anshuman Magazine, Chairman & CEO - India, South-East Asia, Middle East & Africa, CBRE, commented, The Indian luxury real estate sector demonstrates robust fundamentals for sustained expansion, underpinned by consistent increases in household income and consumer spending power. These factors are anticipated to cultivate a segment characterized by discerning buyers prioritizing quality, financial prudence, and a desire for an elevated living experience. He added, Going forward, capitalizing on the positive sales trend, developers nationwide are ramping up activity and are expected to launch new units in the segment. Furthermore, Sustainability has become a critical differentiator in real estate development, with an increasing emphasis on constructing eco-friendly and energy-efficient dwellings. As buyers in this category tend to be more aware of and demanding such features, developers are integrating features such as energy-efficient appliances, rainwater harvesting systems, indoor air quality control, and renewable energy sources to be able to tick the boxes when catering to the demand for luxury homes, he further said. In the overall residential sector, sales across categories reached nearly 85,000 units in Jan-Mar '24, marking an 8 per cent year-on-year growth. Mid-end projects emerged as the leading category, driving sales, followed by high-end and affordable projects. Pune, Mumbai, and Bangalore collectively accounted for about 65 per cent of the total sales, while unit launches in Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad dominated the market, accounting for almost 69 per cent share during the period.
