Initial investigations have revealed the cause of the fire was a cooking gas leakage, the official said. According to police, a fire broke out in the sector 65 area around 10 am. Five fire engines were immediately pressed into the service, they said, adding that the blaze was brought under control but 65 shanties were gutted. There were no casualties or burn injuries reported, the police said. After receiving the information, DCP South Siddhant Jain and his team reached the spot and evacuated many people, including small children, from the shanties. A senior police officer said these shanties were built by three persons -- Ombir, Shyambir and Sagar, residents of Ramgarh village -- who later handed them over to contractor Hamid, a native of West Bengal. Hamid used to rent out these shanties to migrants, charging Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 per month, the officer said. ''During investigations, it was revealed that this entire construction was done illegally and no safety norms were followed. This incident happened due to the negligence of these people and an FIR has been registered against these four individuals under the relevant sections of the IPC at sector 65 police station,'' DCP Jain said. Two weeks back, 300 huts in sector 54 were also gutted in a similar incident.

Tragic Bus Fire in Haryana: 9 Dead, 17 Injured Nine people, including five women and a 12-year-old girl, were burnt alive and 17 injured when a moving tourist bus caught fire near Dhulawat village in Haryana's Nuh district in the early hours of Saturday, police said. The incident took place around 2 am on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, they said. The bus was carrying around 60 people, all residents of Punjab's Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana, who were returning from pilgrim towns of Mathura and Vrindavan. All of them are relatives, the police said. The cause of the fire is said to be a short circuit in the AC box of the bus but it is yet to be ascertained, they said. The police said an FIR has been registered against the bus driver, who fled the scene after the incident, at Sadar Tauru police station. Of the 17 injured, 14 have been discharged from Nalhar medical college, Nuh, while three women are still undergoing treatment at different hospitals, an official said. Deputy Commissioner, Nuh, Dhirendra Khadgata said the forensic team of Madhuban will investigate the cause of the fire in the bus. Sub Divisional Magistrate Tauru Sanjeev Kumar has been appointed as the nodal officer to investigate this matter, he added. A local resident Vasim said that after noticing the fire, some people called out the driver asking him to stop the bus but he continued driving. He said he even chased the bus on a motorcycle but by then the fire had spread inside the bus. The locals also informed the police and fire department. Four fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire, the police said, adding that of the nine people, who were killed in the incident, three are still to be identified. Those who have been identified include Shashi Sharma, Gautam Sharma, 12-year-old Jovita alias Khushi, all residents of Shalimar Nagar Hoshiarpur, Sunita Bhasin from Model Town Kamalpur, Darshan Lal of Jalandhar and Amar Rani from New Saini Enclave, Mohali, a senior police officer said. The injured were identified as Hasraj, Payal Sharma, Soni Sharma, Swatantra Sharma, Sudesh Kumar, Urmila Sharma, Nisha Sharma, Anju Sharma, Sangeeta, Meena Rani, Krishna, Naresh Kumar, Javinder Rana, Baljeet Singh, Poonam, Vijay Kumar and Shanti, the officer said. ''Due to their critical conditions, Shanti and Sudesh were referred to PGIMS, Rohtak, and Sangeeta was referred to a hospital in Gurugram. The others, who were injured in the incident, have been discharged. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem,'' Dr Vardhman of Nalhar medical college said. According to the complaint filed by 60-year-old Rakesh Kumar, resident of Vasant Vihar, GT Road, Bhogpur in Punjab's Jalandhar, he along with his family members left for a religious trip in a tourist bus on May 10. There were about 60 of us in the bus, including about 35 women, 21 men and four children, beside the bus driver and conductors, he said. We were on our way back home from Vrindavan on Friday night when the bus suddenly caught fire near Dhulavat village on KMP Expressway, Kumar said. ''Seeing the smoke, we told the bus driver to pull over to the side but he did not stop the bus. Later, due to heavy smoke, he stopped the bus and by then the fire had spread inside the bus. I and many other people saved our lives by jumping out of the bus and some local people took out some other passengers from the bus and admitted them to different hospitals,'' he said. ''About nine passengers were burnt alive in this accident. Many people also got injured and all our money, jewellery and other belongings were burnt to ashes. This accident was caused due to the careless driving of the bus driver,'' Kumar alleged in his complaint. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered against the bus driver under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (death due to negligence), 427 (causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sadar Tauru police station on Saturday, the police said. ''FIR has been registered and we are trying to nab the accused bus driver. The postmortem of the bodies is being conducted,'' Inspector Jitendra Kumar, Station House Officer, Sadar Tauru, said.

Brookfield to acquire 50% stake in 4 Bharti Enterprises assets
NEW DELHI: Brookfield India Real Estate Trust (BIRET) has inked biding agreements to acquire a 50% stake in four Grade A assets from Bharti Enterprises. The acquisition includes marquee commercial properties of 3.3 million square feet, at an enterprise value (EV) of Rs 6,000 crore. The total equity consideration for the 50% stake will be fulfilled via a preferential allotment of units in BIRET to Bharti, at Rs 300 per unit. Following this, Bharti will become the second-largest unitholder in BIRET, Indias only 100% institutionally managed office REIT, with an ownership stake of 8.53%, the two companies said in a joint statement. The portfolio of assets includes operating Worldmark assets at Aerocity New Delhi, a mixed-use property covering 1.4 million square feet, Airtel Center, a corporate facility of 700,000 square feet in north Gurugram, and Worldmark Gurugram, a mixed-use asset spanning over 700,000 square feet. Brookfield closes Rs 5,000 crore realty deal with Bharti Enterprises Brookfield Asset Management in a transaction had picked up 50% stake in Bharti Enterprises four commercial properties in Delhi-NCR last year. ''During the police interrogation, Devi revealed that on Monday, when her 8-year-old son Karthik returned from school, his clothes were smeared with wall putty and he had also lost two books. In a fit of rage, she first removed his clothes and made him stand outside their house,'' Assistant Commissioner of Police Varun Dahiya said. ''When he insisted on going to some shop, she strangled him with her chunni', ACP Dahiya said. The matter came to light on Monday when the police received a call from a private hospital regarding the death of a child, police said. The victim's father, Arvind Kumar, who works as a labourer, spotted injury marks on the neck of his and claimed that he was murdered. Following this, he filed a complaint at the Sector 18 police station, police said. In his complaint, he said that a neighbour informed him that his son had fallen ill. When he reached home, he found his saw lying unconscious and his wife was crying next to him. They rushed him to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, they said. During the investigation, the police identified the victim's mother, Devi as a suspect and arrested her. She later confessed to the crime and was in police remand for a day, they said. The family hails from Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, they added.

Gurugram Lok Sabha candidates from Congress, JJP face criminal cases Two of the three prominent candidates contesting from the Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency are facing criminal charges. As per their election affidavits, the two are Congress candidate Raj Babbar and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) candidate Rahul Yadav Fazilpuria. There are no criminal charges against BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh. A total of 23 candidates are in the fray from the Gurugram Lok Sabha seat. In July 2022, film actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar was sentenced to a two-year jail term by a Mumbai court for assaulting a polling officer in a 1996 case. In 2006, an FIR of forgery, cheating etc was registered against him at Sikandra Police Station in Agra for breach of affidavit in connection with the purchase of six plots from officers co-operative housing society limited in Agra. In 2015, another FIR was registered against Babbar at Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow for committing acts of violence, pelting stones, and causing a stampede against the police during a political march. In that case, he got bail from the Allahabad High Court. Bollywood singer and JJP candidate Rahul Yadav Fazilpuria was booked in connection with supply of snake venom to a rave party. Social media influencer Elvish Yadav, who was arrested in the case, had confessed that he made the snake video at a party thrown by Fazilpuria. Elvish and Fazilpuria had featured in several videos that appeared on social media with banned snakes. Fazilpuria was booked on March 30 at Badshahpur Police Station for using various varieties of prohibited snakes in a video song shooting. The matter is under investigation.

A few days back I chanced upon a reel by one of the creators that I follow announcing his first ever pop-up, which he plans to host this weekend. Archit Agarwal is a Gurugram-based marketing professional who is also better known as @architlost on Instagram. His food blog, Life of Simple Treats (LOST), is his space to document all the recipes that hes experimented with over the years, and is quite the hit with the millennials on Instagram. Some of my earliest memories have been of sitting in the kitchen with my mother and grandmother as they prepared meals for the family, he says. However, it was during his time in the US as an undergraduate student, that he realised the true value of cooking a meal and turning ingredients into something special. I remember coming across Agarwals Instagram page a few years back. Apparently, Aggarwal launched his page to learn more about marketing and growth, when he secured a marketing position in an agency. But its been seven years since then, and the passion to cook and to create content and share it via Instagram, blog and podcasts continues to grow. What made him decide to host an exclusive pop-up after all this time? This is another way to engage with my audience. As content creators, we share our recipes through visuals and sounds, but consuming food is a sensory experience that can only be fully appreciated in-person. This pop-up allows me to share my creations directly with people, while also interacting with them, quips Aggarwal. The pop-up, in the culinary world, is a term that creates the impression of exclusivity. It is not regular, which lays the groundwork for enchanting an incoming diner with an aura of expectation a bit of surprise in what could possibly have been an otherwise-regular dining experience. Yet, just as you step into an anticipated curated experience, youre welcomed by a menu designed by a home-chef/baker or a recognised restaurant from around the country or the world. The experience remains similar, but becomes exponentially more nichea new niche in the realm of food entertainment. In South Delhis latest food hub, Ghitorni, stands indic, the brainchild of writer Damini Ralleigh and Sandeep Garg. The place is a space where gastronomy meets dialogues in the form of pop-ups, workshops and symposiums. Ralleigh and her team recently concluded a pop-up with Chef Tanisha Phanbuh that highlighted the staples from Meghalaya through a seven-course menu. The plates we serve tell stories of the people who cook the food, their communities, the terrain the food comes from and people who grow it. Its a unique proposition that resonates deeply with the modern diner, who craves not just a meal but an immersive experience through flavours, cultures and traditions, Ralleigh says. Ralleigh, a journalist, moved to Italy to pursue a degree in gastronomy and subsequently started working with the Slow Food Movement, before moving back to Delhi. Upon her return she met Garg who comes with an experience of over 15 years in farming and processing. What makes these niche concepts stand-out and is there an audience for it in Delhi? At indic, one of the pop-ups that was hosted aimed to foster a dialogue between Delhiites and the migrant communities that reside here, and brought them before the guests in a tactile form through food. That pop-up was the mehmaani feast that they put together with the Afghan refugees in Delhi as a fundraiser. Meanwhile, at Archit Agarwals pop-up this weekend the diners can expect a melange of global dishes that have been created to suit the robust Indian palate. From a classic lasagna, chicken fusion tacos to a Christmas tiramisu with a two year old rum soak - these dishes are some of the popular ones from his blog and have been elevated to suit the pop-up experience. Agarwal and his wife Natasha Ratti Kapoor will be hosting this at their home in Gurugram for a limited seating of six guests. Through it all, what you witness are creative expressions that never found their permanent place in a restaurant, but definitely warrant a tangible audience. Signature Global aims to sell Rs 10,000 cr worth homes in FY25, up 38pc annually Realty firm Signature Global Ltd has set a target to sell housing properties worth Rs 10,000 crore in 2024-25, up 38 per cent from the last fiscal, as it expects demand for residential assets to remain strong. In its investors presentation, the company has given a guidance of Rs 10,000 crore for sales bookings in the current fiscal. The company's sales bookings more than doubled to Rs 7,268 crore in 2023-24 from Rs 3,430 crore in the preceding year. The company, which is mainly developing projects at Gurugram in Haryana, sold 4,619 units last fiscal as against 4,512 units in 2022-23. In terms of area, Signature Global sold 6.18 million square feet in 2023-24, up from 4.35 million square feet in the preceding years. Sales realisation for 2023-24 averaged Rs 11,762 per square feet compared to Rs 7,886 per square feet in the previous fiscal. Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal, Chairman of Signature Global, said, ''The financial year 2023-24 marked a significant period for our company, characterised by several achievements, including a successful IPO, expansion into the premium segment, and a notable transition to mid-income housing from affordable housing.'' He said the company has achieved substantial growth in its presence in the National Capital Region (NCR) leading to an increase in its market share. ''As we move into FY25, our focus will be on risk mitigation and the creation of opportunities to ensure sustainable profitability and long-term value for all stakeholders,'' Aggarwal said. On Wednesday, Signature Global reported a more than 5-fold jump in its consolidated net profit to Rs 41.21 crore for the quarter ended March, driven by higher income. Its net profit stood at Rs 7.60 crore in the year-ago period. Total income increased to Rs 722.73 crore in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year from Rs 709.86 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding year, according to a regulatory filing. During the entire 2023-24 fiscal, the company posted a net profit of Rs 16.18 crore as against a net loss of 63.86 crore in the preceding year. However, total income decreased to Rs 1,324.55 crore in the last fiscal from Rs 1,585.87 crore in the 2022-23 fiscal. Signature Global is one of the leading real estate firms in the Delhi-NCR region. It currently has a portfolio of 48.6 million square feet with 16.4 million square feet ongoing and 29.3 million square feet forthcoming. CUET-UG: NTA postpones May 15 exam in Delhi
NEW DELHI: In a late-night development, the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday said the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG 2024 scheduled for May 15 stands postponed for centres across Delhi due to unavoidable reasons. The examination in Delhi will now be held on May 29. Speaking with this paper, Prof Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said, Due to unavoidable reasons, the four papers scheduled on 15 May in the Centres of Delhi city only have to be rescheduled to 29 May 2024. NTA has done this in the best interest of the students. The revised admit cards will be issued. Exams have been canceled in 258 centres in Delhi, he added. The announcement came few hours before the exams were to begin in 380 exam centers across India, including 26 outside India. The news was greeted by students and parents alike with great dismay as it came at the very last minute. In a public notice, the NTA said, It is being informed to all the concerned candidates and stakeholders that due to unavoidable reasons, the test papers (Chemistry -306, Biology - 304, English - 101, and General Test - 501) which were earlier scheduled on 15 May 2024 stand postponed for the candidates appearing in centres across Delhi only. It further said that the examination scheduled for May 15 will be held in all other cities across the country, including in Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Noida, and abroad. Further examinations scheduled on other dates May 16, 17, and 18, 2024 at all centers including those in Delhi will be held as scheduled, said Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Senior Director, NTA. ''The examination scheduled for May 15 will be held in all other cities across the country, including in Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Noida, and abroad. Further examinations scheduled for other dates (May 16, 17 and 18) at all centres, including those in Delhi, will be held as scheduled,'' Parashar added. The NTA had last month announced that the third edition of the CUET-UG will be completed in seven days and there will be no normalisation of scores as all exams will be conducted in a single shift. For 15 subjects, the tests will be in pen-paper mode and for the other 48 subjects, the exam will be held in computer-based mode. This year, over 13.4 lakh candidates have registered for the common entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in 261 central, state, deemed and private universities. In the first edition of the exam in 2022, the test was plagued by technical glitches. Also, as a result of tests for a subject being conducted over multiple shifts, scores had to be normalised during the announcement of results.
