KTR Accuses Congress Govt of Deception on Guarantees Implementation

HYDERABAD: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said the Congress was lying about the implementation of its Six Guarantees. Rahul Gandhi who only reads the scripts given to him claimed that they are implementing the Rs 2,500 dole for women in Nirmal. Looks like the party thinks they can make any claims and take the gullible people of Telangana for a ride, he said. He said though Greater Hyderabad backed the BRS and gave it 16 seats in the Assembly elections, it lost power as the people in the rural areas got carried away by the Congress promises. He was speaking at Karmanghat during a road show in support of BRS Malkajgiri candidate Ragidi Laxma Reddy. Speaking at the road show, Lakshma Reddy said, KCR developed the state well and KTR did his bit for Hyderabad. Revanth Reddy who had won as MP from Malkajgiri did not visit the area again. The Congress cheated people in the name of Six Guarantees.0 How is Congress candidate Patnam Suneetha Mahender Reddy connected to this constituency? Does she have her vote here? These are leaders who deserted the BRS just two to three months after losing power. BJP leader Etala Rajendar who lost in Huzurabad is contesting from Malkajgiri now. I am from this area and will serve people if voted to power. Rama Rao opined that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress should first see if Revanth Reddy would remain with them after the polls. He said that while Rahul Gandhi called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a thief, Revanth Reddy saw a big brother in him. While Adani is a fraudster for Rahul, he is a friend for Revanth. Even as the former pooh poohs the Gujarat model, the latter promises to emulate it. While Rahul finds fault with Kejriwal for the Delhi liquor scam, Revanth supports arrest of Kavitha. Reminding the people that there were no power cuts during the BRS regime he averred that the Congress is not able to secure Krishna and Godavari waters, nor produce electricity from the projects constructed. Give us 10 to 12 seats and we will ensure that KCR calls the shots again in the State politics. If people allow themselves to be cheated for the second time the onus for it will be on themselves. How can the CM say he thought he would get a treasure trove? Is the statement in keeping with the stature of his post? he said.

AICC High Command will Replace Revanth After LS Poll Results: Amit Shah

Hyderabad: Union home minister Amit Shah claimed that the Congress leadership would not allow Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to continue in the post after June 4, once the Lok Sabha election results are declared. He said Revanth Reddy was collecting `RR Tax (Rahul and Revanth Tax) at the behest of the party high command by squeezing the people. The Congress was using the money for its election campaign across the country. Addressing a public meeting at Parade Ground here, in support of party Malkajgiri candidate Etala Rajendar, and in Nizamabad for Dharmapuri Arvind, on Sunday, Shah assured that the BJP government at the Centre would ensure that the corrupt ATM of the Congress would be devoid of any cash, if the Telangana people blessed the party with 12 Lok Sabha seats and an MLA from the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly bypoll. Referring to a case filed against him by the city police after children were seen on the dais with him, Shah said that he will not cry like Revanth Reddy and that the case would be quashed in the High Court. Asking the people to elect Etala Rajendar from Malkajgiri, who belonged to the BC community, Shah said that the BJP would remove Muslim reservations and extend the same to the BCs, SCs and STs. The Congress was rephrasing this message and indulging in a false campaign against him. The Modi government had not removed any reservations. It banned triple talaq, abrogated Article 370 and constructed the Lord Rama temple in Ayodhya. As long as Modi and BJP are in this country, no one can remove reservations, he said. Alleging that the I.N.D.I alliance was a group without any acceptable leader, Shah asked people to choose between the Congress, which had indulged in scams to the tune of `12 lakh crore, and Modi, who had not faced a single corruption charge in his 10-year stint as Prime Minister nor when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat. Modi celebrates Diwali with jawans at the border, while Rahul Gandhi goes on a jolly trip to Bangkok, unable to bear the rising temperatures, he mocked. Addressing a public meeting in Nizamabad, Shah said that the Modi government would root out Naxalism. It had checked Pakistan-sponsored terror incidents. After the surgical strikes, Pakistan had realised that it was Modi and not Manmohan Singh who was in power in Delhi. Charging the Congress and BRS with adopting vote bank politics, Shah said that AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, the BRS and Congress, were known as the `ABC of Telangana and were busy in appeasement politics. The Congress government had not given permission for the Rama Navami Shobha Yatra to appease Owaisi, he said. Reacting to the doctored video featuring him, Shah said that Delhi police would approach Revanth Reddy in this regard. How can they spare you for releasing a fake video, he wondered. The Union home minister found fault with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks that people of the southern states were no way concerned about Jammu and Kashmir. He called upon people to elect Dharmapuri Arvind from Nizamabad for the second time in order to strengthen Modis leadership. Arvind had pursued the matter with the Prime Minister and secured the Turmeric Board for Nizamabad, he said. He said that the BJP-led Centre would establish a bidi workers hospital in Nizamabad and also reopen the Nizam Sugar Factory. Stating that people were searching for Congress candidate T. Jeevan Reddy, who has been the MLC for over five years, Amit Shah said that, on the contrary, Arvind will always be available for the people. Unlike the conventional trend of having a big public meeting for multiple constituencies and leaders, Rajendar opted for a big meeting for only the Malkajgiri constituency at Parade Ground on Sunday. Fans and followers of the party ensured a big turnout despite the sweltering hot weather.

Electoral Commission Fosters Civic Engagement through Persuasion, Urges Voter Participation: Chief Electoral Commissioner Kumar

Electoral Commission Fosters Civic Engagement through Persuasion, Urges Voter Participation: Chief Electoral Commissioner Kumar Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Sunday said the Election Commission works in an ''entirely persuasive space'' where it motivates people to enrol as voters and cast their ballot because neither registration as elector nor voting is mandatory. Addressing representatives of election management bodies from 23 countries, Kumar said it would be axiomatic to say that the credibility of the processes that the EC undertakes is validated through the sheer turnout in elections and the near-saturation of electoral rolls in terms of the elector-population ratio. He also said that the contribution of the Indian electoral space, process and capacity it generates, creates huge ''democratic surpluses'' for the world. This, the CEC said, is significant amid growing concerns over shrinkage of democratic spaces worldwide. The CEC's remarks on the poll panel's functioning in an ''entirely persuasive space'' to invite people to register as voters and eventually cast their ballot come against the backdrop of voter apathy. Last week, the EC had expressed disappointment over the voter turnout in some metropolitan cities in the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls, saying it was a pointer to the ''rigid levels of apathy'' in India's high-tech cities. Cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) fared no better, it had lamented. Among the 23 countries whose election management body representatives are here to observe the ongoing Lok Sabha polls are Australia, Russia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The 75 delegates will visit six states -- Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh -- in small groups to witness the elections and preparations related to them in various constituencies.

Maulvi held for plotting Hindu leader's murder: Gujarat minister's 'inspire' allegation irks Congress

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat minister Harsh Sanghavi on Sunday targeted the Congress over the arrest of a maulvi a day earlier for allegedly planning to kill a Hindu leader and threaten a BJP MLA on orders of his handlers in Pakistan and Nepal and said the opposition party must not inspire such persons. The comment from the minister of state for home in the BJP government here evoked a sharp response from the Congress, which said the ruling party was trying to hide its own incompetence in controlling crimes. Surat police on Saturday arrested maulvi Sohel Abubakr Timol (27) for allegedly planning to murder the leader of a Hindu organisation in Surat and threatening the chief editor of Sudarshan TV, former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Telangana MLA Raja Singh in connivance with handlers from Pakistan and Nepal. The maulvi was hatching a big plan to murder BJP and Hindu leaders. The chat messages and Rs 1 crore supari (for the purpose) offered by his masters sitting in Pakistan has been exposed. The way the maulvi was instigating youth and children for anti-national activities stands exposed, Sanghavi told a Gujarat news channel. I want to tell the Congress that you will get many political opportunities but it is a sin to save maulvis like him. It is a sin to inspire these type of clerics. The Congress should stop making indirect efforts in this direction, he added. Hitting back, chairperson of social media and digital platforms of the Congress Supriya Shrinate said the BJP had made it a habit to blame everything on her party. By making such statements, the minister was trying to hide his own incompetence in controlling crimes that are taking place under his nose, she said here. For over three decades the state government has been yours. You have been in power at the Centre for a decade. It is for you to take action and find out about such criminal activities. How is it happening under your nose? Will you blame Congress for everything? You blame the Congress while saving Prajwal Revanna and Brij Bhushan, questioned Shrinate. Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said Sanghavi does not understand the dignity of his post and neither does he keep himself informed about facts emerging from his home ministry. If anyone has committed an anti-national act, then there is a law to tackle it. At the same time, the minister should reply as to how Surat has emerged as the crime capital of the state? How has Gujarat become a drug hub? Doshi said.

IPL 2024: Thought We Were 15-20 Runs Short But Did Not Bowl Loose Balls In Powerplay And Middle Overs, Says Jadeja

Indian Premier League: Ravindra Jadeja, who hit an unbeaten 43 with the bat and took 3-20 in a decisive middle-overs spell in Chennai Super Kings 28-run win over Punjab Kings, said the side felt they were 15-20 runs short at the halfway stage. But he added that not bowling loose deliveries in Power-play and middle overs was crucial in the sides win at HPCA Stadium on Sunday afternoon. We thought we were 15-20 runs short but we did not bowl loose balls in the powerplay and the middle overs. My role as a batter is to build partnerships and then play the big shots towards the end. Sometimes, when we lose wickets in the Powerplay, we do not get momentum. In the matches we win, we play all phases well. We had a good powerplay but did not get partnerships in the middle overs. I was trying to build a good partnership to then tee off at the end, said Jadeja, the Player of the Match, to broadcasters after the match ended. Apart from him, Simarjeet Singh and Tushar Deshpande returned with figures of 2-16 and 2-35 respectively to derail PBKS chase. Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur also took a wicket each to ensure CSK got back into the top four of the points table despite being hit by injuries in their bowling line-up. It was a day game, so the wicket was slow. As usual, it was expected because it was so hot. The fast bowlers bowled well in the powerplay. Tushar got two important wickets and then Mitch and I did the job in the middle overs. It (the pitch) always seems flat in the powerplay. But when the ball gets old, the ball does not always come on. When playing at a new venue, you don't know how much it will turn or stop, added Jadeja. Fast-bowler Deshpande had missed Wednesdays game against PBKS due to flu but became fit for Sundays match and made an instant impact by castling Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw in the same over. Very happy today because it was a low-scoring game. This was the game we wanted to win badly. I tried my best to play the last game but couldn't (due to illness). It was in my mind that I wanted to give my best. It was a crunch game. At high altitude, the ball does something and my job was to take wickets. (On the pitch) It was a bit slow if we bowled into the pitch. We knew if we hit those lengths, it was tough to play horizontal shots, he said. Defending champions CSK, with 12 points from 11 games, will now travel to Ahmedabad to play against ninth-placed Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 10.

Cong's Shrinate: Modi Reading From 2014 Script, Misleading Muslims on Quota

Cong's Shrinate: Modi Reading From 2014 Script, Misleading Muslims on Quota Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Sunday claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reading from his 2014 rpt 2014 script for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and also accused him of misleading people over quotas for Muslims. The BJP has been saying the Congress wanted to snatch quotas of SCs, STs and OBCs and give them to Muslims as part of its appeasement politics. Shrinate, the head of the Congress' social media and digital platforms, claimed PM Modi, in an interview in 2022, had said BJP governments in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have already given reservation to Muslims as OBCs. ''After serving as India's prime minister for 10 years, we thought he would now face the people and present his report card and seek votes on his government's achievements. Instead, he is reading the same poll script of 2014 in 2024. He is not talking about anything except Congress and its leaders. So what was our PM doing these ten years?'' she questioned. She claimed the 2024 polls will be a repeat of 2004 when BJP's 'India Shining' campaign failed and the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government was voted out of power. ''Modi is spreading lies about reservations being given to Muslims in Congress-ruled Karnataka. This reservation was given by H D Deve Gowda when he was chief minister based on a survey conducted in 1974. And today, Deve Gowda's party JD(S) is BJP's ally. The Congress government has not implemented it. This reservation has been there for the last three decades,'' she said. On the rape and other allegations against JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, Shrinate claimed Modi sought votes for him in Mysuru despite being aware about the issue. ''Modi sought votes for Revanna, who is no less than a monster. Was he not aware of his misdeeds? Modi knew everything because local BJP leaders had already warned the top BJP leadership about Revanna,'' she alleged. Instead of speaking about Muslims, the PM should speak about the other three 'M's, namely mahila (women), mehengai (price rise) and Manipur violence, the Congress leader said. ''My leader (Rahul Gandhi) went to Manipur twice and tried to bring peace. But Modiji did not get time yet to visit Manipur, where violence is still taking place,'' she said. People are silent but they are voting against the BJP since they know it will change the Constitution and end reservations after getting 400 Lok Sabha seats, Shrinate claimed. Modi is trying to divert attention by speaking about Muslims, Pakistan and Muslim League during rallies, but the Congress will ensure the polls are fought on issues concerning people, such as unemployment, inflation, corruption, wealth inequality and partnership based on the population. Accusing Modi of spending Rs 6,500 crore for building his own image, Shrinate said the poor had become poorer while the wealthy have flourished in the last 10 years. It does not suit BJP to talk about Hindu dharma or cows because the party has taken money from beef exporters through the electoral bonds scheme, she alleged.

Campaigning ends for Gujarat LS polls: BJP aims to repeat sweep despite Cong-AAP alliance

AHMEDABAD: Campaigning for polls to 25 of 26 Lok Sabha seats and bypolls to five assembly constituencies ended in Gujarat at 6 pm on Saturday, with voting scheduled for May 7. The BJP's Mukesh Dalal has already won from Surat unopposed after the nomination of Congress' Nilesh Kumbhani was rejected over irregularities in the signature of proposers and other candidates withdrew. Among the prominent candidates in the fray are Union Home Minister Amit Shah from Gandhinagar, as well as his cabinet colleagues Mansukh Mandaviya and Parshottam Rupala from Porbandar and Rajkot, respectively. During the campaign, the BJP had to face the ire of the Kshatriya community over a remark made by Rupala in Rajkot. He had claimed several rulers from the community had oti and beti (marriage and trade) relations with the British and other foreign invaders. Rupala is up against former Congress MLA Paresh Dhanani, who had defeated him in the 2002 assembly polls. The Congress has fielded four sitting and eight former MLAs. It is contesting the polls in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party. As part of the agreement, the Congress got 24 seats (including Surat), while the AAP has been given Bhavnagar and Bharuch. Geniben Thakor, sitting MLA from Vava in Banaskantha district, has been fielded from Banaskantha against BJP's Rekha Chaudhary, making it the only seat in the state where the main contest is between two women. The BJP's campaign, in a state considered its strongest base, was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. For the Congress, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were among the star campaigners, along with Mallikarjun Kharge, who recently addressed a rally in Ahmedabad. A host of senior leaders from the BJP and the Congress also took part in the campaign in the state, where the ruling party blanked out the grand old party in 2014 and 2019. These leaders included Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman for the BJP and Ashok Gehlot, Shashi Tharoor, Abhishek Sanghvi and Pawan Khera etc for the Congress. The AAP has fielded sitting MLAs Chaitar Vasava from Bharuch and Umesh Makwana from Bhavnagar, and the Arvind Kejriwal-led party's campaign saw rallies by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as well as senior leaders Sanjay Singh and Gopal Yadav. Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of the Delhi CM who is in jail in connection with a excise policy linked case, also held a roadshow in Bharuch for Vasava. On the last day of campaigning on Sunday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, BJP state unit president CR Paatil and minister Harsh Sanghavi participated in motorcycle rallies. While the presence of PM Modi towered over all else in the campaign, the Congress tried to corner the BJP by claiming unemployment, inflation were at an all time high. The Congress also tried to impress upon the voter that the BJP would change the Constitution if it retained power, while the ruling party hit back claiming the opposition party planned to snatch quotas of Dalits, tribals and OBCs and give them to Muslims. As per poll officials, a total of 4.97 crore persons, comprising 2.56 crore males, 2.41 crore females and 1,534 from the third gender, will vote in 50,788 polling booths. They said intensive voter awareness drives were carried out under the guidance of Chief Electoral Officer P Bharathi. On Sunday, just before the campaign period ended, the Election Commission organised a 'Run for Vote' event across all the districts in the state, they pointed out. To address the potential challenges posed by heat waves, polling booths across the state will be equipped with essential amenities such as drinking water, seating arrangements, adequate shade as well as baby care centres, the CEO informed. Of the 25 seats that will go to polls on May 7, Ahmedabad (East) has the highest number of candidates at 18, while the lowest is in Bardoli, where three contestants are in the fray, as per EC data. Navsari has the highest number of voters, while the lowest is in Bharuch. Out of 50,788 polling stations, 17,275 are in urban areas and 33,513 in rural areas, EC data showed. Those on election duty have exercised their franchise for the Lok Sabha poll and five assembly bypolls through 2,23,052 postal ballots at voting facilitation centres across the state.

If this plays out well, 6 teams will have 14 points where Net run rate will play a crucial role and for this RCB should win all their matches by a huge margin. RCB will play Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings in their remaining three matches.

IPL: SRH eye consistency in must-win clash against frail MI

Mumbai: A confident Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to produce a dominant show against a frail Mumbai Indians outfit and move up in the Indian Premier League points table when the two teams clash here on Monday. Placed fourth in the IPL points table with 12 points in 10 matches with six wins and four losses, SRH will be desperate to produce an all-round show and make improvements especially in their bowling department. The Pat Cummins-led side is in the midst of an intense battle between multiple teams who are bidding for spots in the final four, with Rajasthan Royals (16 points), Kolkata Knight Riders (14 points) and Lucknow Super Giants (12 points) placed above SRH. Chennai Super Kings (5th with 10 points) and a resurgent Delhi Capitals (6th with 10 points) are breathing down SRH's neck, a scenario that would force the 2016 winners to shrug off any rust and get ready for an intense mid-table battle. If a two-paced pitch at the Wankhede Stadium for the previous clash against KKR was an aberration, the free-flowing SRH batters would look to make merry and pile up a huge score as they have done several times this year. The pitches here generally are batting-friendly and short boundary lengths at this venue make scores in excess of 200 a norm, but the MI-KKR contest played out on a sluggish surface last Friday challenged the batters to dig deep. SRH would be high on confidence having pipped the table-toppers RR by just one run in their previous outing, a game in which their bowlers pulled off a thrilling win. Travis Head (396 runs), Abhishek Sharma (315) and Heinrich Klaasen (337) remain the enforcers in SRH's batting but South African Aiden Markram would be keen to make a big score of his own, having had a mixed run so far. Nitish Kumar Reddy (219 runs) has emerged as one of the most promising players for SRH in last few games which takes a significant amount of pressure off the key batters. T Natarajan's (15 wickets) accuracy would be handy for SRH as the left-arm pacer is chasing Mumbai Indians' Jasprit Bumrah (17) for the purple cap. Five-time winners Mumbai slipped to the bottom of the pool again when Royal Challengers Bengaluru trumped Gujarat Titans on Saturday night. With only three wins in 11 matches, MI's challenge is all but over and there is only pride and name left to play for by their own admission. However, all is not lost as MI's key India players for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya would remain in focus for their individual form. Rohit's all-out aggressive approach has not yielded many big scores whereas the world number 1 T20 batter Suryakumar would be eyeing consistency after a fine half-century against KKR a few nights ago. India vice-captain Pandya has being consistently on the receiving end due to his ordinary form with both bat and ball and also his on-field decisions as MI skipper. The all-rounder, however, would be keen to make amends and put an end to the criticism that he has been facing ever since this IPL edition got underway. Teams: Mumbai Indians: Hardik Pandya (c), Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Dewald Brevis, Jasprit Bumrah, Piyush Chawla, Gerald Coetzee, Tim David, Shreyas Gopal, Ishan Kishan (wk), Anshul Kamboj, Kumar Kartikeya, Akash Madhwal, Kwena Maphaka, Mohammad Nabi, Shams Mulani, Naman Dhir, Shivalik Sharma, Romario Shepherd, Arjun Tendulkar, Nuwan Thushara, Tilak Varma, Harvik Desai (wk), Nehal Wadhera, Luke Wood. Sunrisers Hyderabad: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Nitish Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (c), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, T Natarajan, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik, Anmolpreet Singh, Glenn Phillips (wk), Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Upendra Yadav (wk), Jhathavedh Subramanyan, Sanvir Singh, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Marco Jansen, Akash Maharaj Singh, Mayank Agarwal. Match starts 7:30pm IST.

Amit Shah Slams Rahul Gandhi's Shifting Constituencies, Predicts Defeat in Rae Bareli

Ahmedabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's frequent changes in constituencies, suggesting it was due to fear of electoral defeat.Addressing an election rally in Gujarats Bodeli, Shah remarked, The problem is not with the constituencies, but with Rahul Gandhi himself; he will face defeat wherever he goes. Shah's comments came a day after Gandhi filed his nomination from Congress stronghold Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, shifting to Rae Bareli to continue the familys connection in the partys only bastion in Uttar Pradesh. In Amethi, he lost to Smriti Irani, and then he shifted to Wayanad. Now, facing challenges in Wayanad, he has moved on to Raebareli, Shah said. He (Rahul) lost in Amethi to Smriti Irani and ran to Wayanad. Now, fearing defeat in Wayanad, he is also contesting from Rae Bareli. Rahul Baba, the problem is not with the seat but with you. You are going to lose Rae Bareli by a huge margin, Shah added.Shah also criticized the INDIA alliances rotation formula for the prime ministerial post, urging voters not to hand over power to a divisive party. He questioned the alliance's choice of Prime Ministerial candidate, asking, If the INDIA alliance wins, who will be the PM? Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee, Stalin, Uddhav Thackeray, or Rahul Gandhi?Shah expressed doubts over the alliances ability to handle crises like COVID-19 or terrorism in Kashmir with a rotating premiership. He accused the Congress of attempting to divide the country into North and South India and refuted opposition claims about the BJPs stance on reservations, labeling them as lies.Modi had a full majority in 2014 and 2019. But he never touched the reservation meant for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. This is Modis guarantee that till the BJP is in power, no one can touch reservation, Shah asserted. Shah argued that this is a question concerning Indias future, emphasizing that the entire country has decided to support and re-elect Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister. Modi government exploiting quota issue for Muslims for electoral gains, claims Congress

Modi government exploiting quota issue for Muslims for electoral gains, claims Congress Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Sunday claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reading from his 2019 script for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and also accused him of misleading people over quotas for Muslims.

Tejashwi Yadav Recalls Vajpayee's Raj Dharma Remarks

Tejashwi Yadav Recalls Vajpayee's Raj Dharma Remarks A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi charged Lalu Prasad with having tried to shield the culprits in the Godhra train burning case, the RJD president's son Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday recounted the famous ''Raj dharma'' remark of Atal Bihari Vajpayee made in the backdrop of communal violence in Gujarat. Yadav was responding to queries on Modi's speech at a rally in Darbhanga the previous day where Modi had charged the RJD president with having tried to ''shield'' those guilty in two-decade-old Godhra train burning incident and ''put blame on kar sevaks''. ''He (PM) can say whatever he wants. But I remember what Atal Ji had said at that point of time. Atal Ji, the then PM, was addressing a press conference. Modi Ji in his capacity as the then chief minister of Gujarat was seated beside the PM who had advised the former to follow 'Raj dharma' during the 2002 communal riots in the state,'' Yadav told PTI video. Further commenting on the PM's accusation that INDIA bloc and RJD are trying to ''steal'' the reservation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other backward classes (OBCs) to hand them over to Muslims, Yadav said, ''These are baseless things and far from reality. The ruling NDA has decided to end reservation to OBCs and other classes by privatising the government's several wings and organisations.'' Modi had accused Prasad of having given quotas to Muslims in Bihar and advocating the same in 2007 while serving in the Union government as the Railway Minister. ''The PM should talk about the issues concerning people. People have decided to give a befitting reply to the BJP-led NDA and they will face a humiliating defeat in this election,'' he said. ''Why is the PM maintaining a stoic silence over the Karnataka sex scandal? The accused is involved in abuse of several women in Karnataka. They (BJP) are more into protecting rapists and helping them get away,'' Yadav said. Yadav condemned the militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch in which one Indian Air Force personnel was killed and four injured on Saturday. ''We strongly condemn this terror attack and join the nation in standing together against terrorism. Our deepest condolences to the family of the brave warrior who made the supreme sacrifice,'' he said.

IPL 2024: 'I Can Feel The Confidence In The Team', Faf Wants RCB To Keep Momentum After Hat-trick Of Wins

Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) third consecutive victory in the 2024 IPL, skipper Faf du Plessis stressed on maintaining the hard-earned momentum team has established in the past two weeks. Following their triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 25, RCB snapped their six-game losing streak. They continued their winning momentum with a victory against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on April 28, followed by another win in the reverse fixture on Saturday. The run of three consecutive victories propelled them from the bottom of the table to the seventh position. Boys well done tonight, unbelievable performance. From my side I can feel the confidence in the group when we are out there in the field. I hope that belief is starting to filter through the group of how good a team we are when we are playing the style of cricket we want to play. So unbelievable effort on that, du Plessis said on RCB Dressing Room Chat. With the bat I know we were not at our best tonight at the last bit of it. That is a point we will talk about in the review. But make sure we celebrate this because we have worked hard three games on the bounce. We take the momentum with us, we take the confidence with us when we move to the next game, the skipper added. Yash Dayal, Vyshak Vijaykumar and Mohammed Siraj picked two wickets each in a superb bowling performance to bundle out GT for a below-par 147. RCBs response was aggressive and decisive to begin with, led by Du Plessis and Virat Kohli, as the visitors looked well on course to victory with 92 in the powerplay. Assistant coach Adam Griffith also complemented the players for putting together the best powerplay displays for RCB in both batting and bowling, among several other brilliant performances. From the bowling perspective tonight, 23 for 3, that is the best powerplay of the tournament. We only got hit for two boundaries in that time, so well done, execution was spot-on. We bowled to the conditions perfectly, coach Griffith said. We kept talking about the aggressiveness to take wickets and to bowl a team out is always tough in a T20 game, to take 10 wickets is exactly what we were after, so well done. The last four overs, we took 5-26. We finished beautifully. It was a team bowling effort and we all played our part as a group. And 92 for 1, that is the best (batting) powerplay RCB has ever had. And Faf, that is the second fastest 50 [off 18 balls] for RCB. In the field, our first direct-hit run-out of the tournament, it was a really important wicket [Shahrukh Khan] for us, so well done Virat, he added. Also getting praise from the assistant coach was Swapnil Singh, who began the game conceding just one run off the first over, and then hit the winning runs with an unbeaten 15 off 9. Special mention for Swappers, you got the broom out there at the end. Started the game for us, finished the game for us, well done, Griffith concluded.

Maulvi Sohel Abubakr Timol Arrested: Alleged Plot to Assassinate BJP Leaders in Surat Uncovered

Surat: A 27-year-old man was arrested in Gujarat's Surat on Friday over an alleged plot to kill BJP leaders and a leader of a right-wing organisation. The accused, Maulvi Sohel Abubakr Timol, threatened the chief editor of Sudarshan TV channel, BJP's Telangana MLA Raja Singh, and the party's former spokesperson Nupur Sharma in connivance with his handlers from Pakistan and Nepal, Surat senior police official Anupam Singh Gehlot said. Abubakr Timol worked at a thread factory as a manager and also offered private tuition on Islam to Muslim children, he added. Police had received information that a man was connecting people on a WhatsApp group, and posting content to hurt religious sentiment, and instigate communal violence during election. Based on the tip-off, police launched an investigation. Timol's mobile chats revealed he was conspiring with people from Pakistan and Nepal to offer Rs 1 crore 'supari' (contract for killing) and procure weapons from Pakistan to kill his first target, national president of Hindu Sanatan Sangh Upadesh Rana, said Gehlot. After his detention, we found several objectionable contents in his mobile phones, including the one regarding offering Rs 1 crore for the murder of Updesh Rana. For this, he was continuously in touch with persons/numbers from Pakistan and Nepal, Gehlot said.Photos and other details found on his phone number show they (accused and associates) were discussing on a secure app about targeting and threatening editor-in-chief of Sudarshan TV Suresh Chavhanke, political leader Nupur Sharma, and Hyderabad MLA Raja Singh. For this purpose, they were planning to collect funds and procure weapons, Gehlot said. Chat records showed Timol wanted to disturb communal harmony during the ongoing general elections, a senior police official said, adding that Surat police was taking the help of other agencies to find out if they had more targets in mind.Preliminary investigation revealed that Timol was in contact with two people identified as Dogar and Shehnaz having phone numbers belonging to Pakistan and Nepal, respectively.Around a year and half ago, the two people contacted the accused through social media on phone numbers belonging to Pakistan and Nepal. They instigated the accused by claiming the Nabi had been mocked by Hindu organisations in India and these need to be straightened out. On the chat app, Timol wrote speeches against Hinduism and threatened Rana that he would be murdered like Kamlesh Tiwari, police said, adding that a member of his chat group had sent Rana's photo with a Rs 1 crore offer to murder him. Kamlesh Tiwari (Uttar Pradesh-based president of the Hindu Samaj Party was killed on October 18, 2019 in Lucknow). The arrested accused was in contact with holders of Whatsapp numbers with codes of different countries like Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, police official said. RCB off ventilator but still in ICU, says Ajay Jadeja

BENGALURU: Former India all-rounder Ajay Jadeja believes Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowlers have started to click together to take their side off the ventilator but the team still remains in the ICU following their nervy win over Gujarat Titans. RCB got over the line with four wickets and 38 balls in hand chasing a paltry 148 against GT on Saturday, a win which was set up by the bowlers. Faf du Plessis (64) and Virat Kohli (42) shared 92 runs inside the powerplay but RCB lost wickets in a heap slipping from 92/0 to 117/6 to give Gujarat a real hope of pulling off an unlikely win. The chinks in the armour are visible, what happened at the end. But the chance is there. They're off the ventilator but they're still in the ICU, Jadeja told Jio Cinema. We are excited about today's match after seeing Virat and Faf bat. But the real work that was done, was by the bowlers, an aspect RCB has historically struggled at. The bowling department has started to click for them now, and we're talking about the business end of the season, this is the point where realistic chances of winning comes from momentum Jadeja said RCB may have got the momentum after their win which took them to the seventh spot in the IPL points table, but qualifying for the playoffs remains a very tough ask. More than momentum, it's about the mentality of the team where you know if you're in a bad situation, someone will take you out of it...Today, it seemed like RCB picked the right road while Gujarat was on the other side. Who will reach their goal? It's a very tough ask still, he said. The former India cricketer, however, was impressed with RCB's aggressive approach with the bat in a small chase. They came into the game differently from the start. I haven't checked the statistics, but I have never seen them start a game with a six. Not one, but two of them, in the first over, when there was no need, he said. What Faf did, he was operating at a different pace. Later, there was some excitement in the match but at no point did it seem like this was (GT win) going to be successful.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: As the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) picked up their fourth win of the IPL 2024 after beating Gujarat Titans (GT), former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja, praising RCB's comeback in the business end of the tournament, said Faf du Plessis-led side are off the ventilator but still in ICU. Riding on a superb show by their fast bowlers and a scintillating 64 from skipper Du Plessis, RCB kept their playoff hopes alive with a four-wicket win at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Saturday's win also lifted RCB off the bottom of the table to number seven. After Yash Dayal, Vyshak Vijaykumar and Mohammed Siraj picked two wickets each to bowl out GT for a below-par 147. A dominant start by the RCB openers, skipper du Plessis and Virat Kohli, set the platform for a win. Although there were a few nerves during the run-chase, RCB were comfortable as they chased the target down with 6.2 overs to spare. Jadeja praised the overall performance from RCB with significant contributions from Kohli (42), Du Plessis (64 ), Siraj (2/29), and Dayal (2/21) and said the win reflects that RCB picked the right road in the tournament. We are excited about today's match after seeing Virat and Faf bat. But the real work that was done, was by the bowlers, an aspect RCB has historically struggled at. The bowling department has started to click for them now, and we're talking about the business end of the season, this is the point where realistic chances of winning comes from momentum... More than momentum, it's about the mentality of the team where you know if you're in a bad situation, someone will take you out of it... Today(Saturday), it seemed like RCB picked the right road while Gujarat was on the other side. Who will reach their goal? It's a very tough ask still. The chinks in the armour are visible, what happened at the end. But the chance is there. They're off the ventilator but they're still in the ICU, said Jadeja on Jio Cinema. Discussing RCB's batting strategy, the former cricketer remarked that he had never witnessed RCB commence a match with not one but two sixes in the first over. Today was outstanding... They came into the game differently from the start. I haven't checked the statistics, but I have never seen them start a game with a six. Not one, but two of them, in the first over, when there was no need. What Faf did, he was operating at a different pace. Later, there was some excitement in the match but at no point did it seem like this was (GT win) going to be successful, he said. RCB now travels to Dharamshala to lock horns with Punjab Kings on May 9 at HPCA Stadium.

Gavaskar Lauds Siraj's Resilience and Self-belief

Gavaskar Lauds Siraj's Resilience and Self-belief Mohammed Siraj's self-belief and never-say-die attitude are his real strengths, said batting legend Sunil Gavaskar after the pacer set up Royal Challengers Bengaluru's four-wicket win over Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League here. Siraj's two-wicket burst in the powerplay to remove Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha played a crucial role as GT could manage just 147 all-out in 19.3 overs on Saturday. ''Every time you see Mohammed Siraj, you know that he's going to give his heart out. Remember the time when his father passed away when he was in Australia. He carried on,'' Gavaskar said on Star Sports Cricket Live. ''A lot of people would want to go back because your parents are so dear to you. But I think he realised that playing for India was important. Also, he was not established at that stage. An established player would 100 per cent have gone back. ''And remember how spectacularly he bowled in that Gabba Test match. Getting somebody like Steve Smith out when he was on 55... so this is the real strength of Mohammed Siraj, the self-belief and the never-say-die attitude on the field.'' Chasing a modest 148, Faf du Plessis (64) and Virat Kohli (42) put on 92 runs inside the powerplay to give RCB a blistering start. RCB, however, slipped from 92/0 to 117/6 before romping home in 13.4 overs. ''Extraordinary stuff during the power play when RCB was batting. It was just game on, and then all of a sudden things changed. Were they trying to counter the net run rate solution? And if that is the case, then well played to them because they needed to go hard,'' former Australian batter Matthew Hayden said. ''So they lost those three wickets to Joshua Little straight away in that middle stage of the match. And then they were able to consolidate because, simply as you heard Faf at the presentation say, anything short of 180, even 190 on this high-scoring venue, was never going to be enough runs.'' Former England cricketer and coach Paul Collingwood also lauded the ''aggressive approach'' of the RCB batters. The intensity displayed by RCB with the ball was commendable. Even while chasing a modest total, seeing Virat Kohli stepping out of his crease and effortlessly flicking a delivery for six on just the second ball indicated their aggressive intent. This signals danger for their opponents. ''Despite their position near the bottom of the table, RCB didn't hold back. They showed clarity, bravery, and aggression, particularly in the middle order. Although they lost wickets, I commend their aggressive approach,'' he said.

Its Gujarat vs Telangana: CM Revanth

KHAMMAM/HYDERABAD: Stating that the coming election was a fight between Gujarat and Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday exhorted the people to vote for the Congress and defeat the Gujarat team. The chief minister participated in a Jana Jatara Sabha in Kothagudem of Khammam constituency and a corner meeting in Kothakota of Mahbubnagar district as well as a roadshow in Secunderabad. Addressing a massive gathering in Kothagudem, Revanth said that the December 3 elections results were a semi-final while the finals would be played on May 13. Stating that the erstwhile Khammam district has a great fighting history, the chief minister that the separate Telangana slogan first rent the air in Palvoncha. As Lord Rama of Bhadrachalam is my witness, I swear that farm loans would be waived before August 15, Revanth said. He also disclosed that Rythu Bharosa amounts would be credited into the accounts of the remaining four lakh farmers by May 9. The coming election is a fight between Gujarat and Telangana and we should win the championship by defeating the Gujarat team. Though the Congress-led UPA government had included many issues favouring Telangana in the AP Reorganisation Act, Narendra Modi cheated the people by not implementing them, Revanth alleged. Alleging a tacit understanding between the BJP and BRS to defeat the Congress, the TPCC chief appealed to the people to defeat all nefarious plots against the grand old party by voting for it in the General Elections. The BRS car has gone to the mechanics shed and it will never come back. In fact, it should be sold as scrap, Revanth said. Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of insulting even the bifurcation of the state, the TPCC chief said that it was ridiculous that the former was now coming to the people seeking votes. He also reiterated his allegation that the BJP was conspiring to scrap reservations for the marginalised sections and would do so if it gets a third term in power. Turning his attention to the BRS, Revanth alleged that former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao left Telangana debt-ridden by taking loans worth `7 lakh crore. He advised BRS Khammam candidate Nama Nageswara Rao not to become a scapegoat of KCR by believing the latters words of a Union Cabinet berth. Revanth appealed to the people of Khammam to ensure Congress candidate R Raghuram Reddy and Mahabubabad candidate Balaram Naik win by at least three lakh votes each. Addressing a public meeting at Kothakota, Revanth said: Even if KD (KCR) comes from Gajwel and Modi from Delhi, the Congress cannot be defeated in Mahbubnagar. He said: To shift Mudiraj community from BC- D to BC - A and to include Valmiki Boyas in the ST list, Congress candidate Vamshi Chand Reddy should win. He accused BJP candidate DK Aruna of colluding with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and filing cases in Delhi to bring down Revanth Reddy. Addressing the Khammam crowd, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that closed thermal power stations in the state would be revived. He also announced that interest-free loans worth `1 lakh crore would be provided to self-help groups in the coming five years. Vikramarka also accused KCR of falsely claiming that he turned SCCL into a profit-making enterprise. Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Thummala Nageswara Rao were among those present.

35 Muslim Candidates in Gujarat Assembly Elections; Congress Abstains from Fielding Any

35 Muslim Candidates in Gujarat Assembly Elections; Congress Abstains from Fielding Any Thirty-five Muslim candidates are contesting the Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat but the Congress has this time broken its tradition and not fielded a single person from the community in the state. The Congress has argued that the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat, from where it used to traditionally field a Muslim candidate, has this time gone to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as part of the seat sharing agreement among the opposition INDIA bloc constituents. Among national parties, only the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded a Muslim candidate from Gandhinagar for the May 7 polls in the state. The BSP had also fielded a Muslim candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Panchmahal. This time, 35 Muslim candidates are in the fray for the Lok Sabha polls to be held in 25 out of the 26 seats in Gujarat, compared to 43 nominees from the community in 2019, according to Election Commission data. Most of the candidates from the community are either contesting independently or have been fielded by lesser-known parties. Gujarat Congress's minority department chairman Vajirkhan Pathan told PTI, ''The party has traditionally fielded at least one candidate from the Muslim community in the Lok Sabha elections in the state, especially from Bharuch. This time it was not possible as the seat went to the AAP.'' The Congress had offered to field a candidate from one seat in Gujarat, but the community members declined given a slim chance of victory, he claimed. ''There is no scope for a Muslim candidate to contest from any other seat. Two seats - Ahmedabad West and Kutch - with sizable Muslim population are reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates,'' Pathan said. Apart from Bharuch, the Congress has in the past fielded Muslim candidates from Navsari and Ahmedabad (when it was not divided into Ahmedabad East and West seats). In 1977, the Congress sent two Muslim candidates to Parliament - Ehsan Jafri from Ahmedabad and Ahmed Patel from Bharuch. Patel went on to win two subsequent elections in 1980 and 1984 from Bharuch. His son Faisal Patel and daughter Mumtaz Patel were among the contenders for the seat this time and had even expressed unhappiness after it went to the AAP which fielded tribal leader Chaitar Vasava. In the past, the Congress fielded Muhammad Patel, Aziz Tankarvi and Sherkhan Pathan from Bharuch in the 2004, 2009 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, respectively. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, it fielded Maksud Mirza, its only Muslim candidate, from the Navsari seat. The Mayavati-led BSP has this time offered ticket to Mohammad Anis Desai to contest from Gandhinagar, where he is pitted against BJP heavyweight and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat where elections will be held, Gandhinagar has the highest number of eight Muslim candidates. Jamnagar and Navsari have five Muslim candidates each, Patan and Bharuch four each, Porbandar and Kheda two each, and Ahmedabad East, Banaskantha, Junagadh, Panchmahl and Sabarkantha one each, according to Election Commission data. While a majority of them are contesting as independents, some smaller parties such as the Right to Recall Party, Bharatiya Jan Nayak Party, Social Democratic Party, Garib Kalyan Party and Log Party have also fielded Muslim candidates from different seats. Ismail Patel, the sarpanch of Sarod village in Bharuch's Jambusar taluka who is contesting as an independent candidate from Bharuch Lok Sabha seat, said he tried for a ticket for the 2022 state assembly elections, but it was denied by the Congress. ''Big political parties ignore Muslim leaders because of which we have to find a way out and contest the election as independent candidates. People in our area face a lot of issues but the local leaders do not come to their aid, because of which locals want a leader from their community,'' he claimed. A total of 266 candidates are in the fray for the May 7 elections in Gujarat, according to the final list of candidates published on April 22. Out of the 26 seats in Gujarat, Surat has gone to the BJP after its candidate Mukesh Dalal was last week declared elected unopposed.

Miller backs struggling Gill as GT skipper

Miller backs struggling Gill as GT skipper Shubman Gill is having a tough initiation into Gujarat Titans captaincy, but senior batter David Miller backed him, saying the 24-year-old is increasingly adjusting to the role. Under Gills captaincy the Titans who were champions in 2022 and runners-up last year under Hardik Pandya are languishing at the ninth place on the table with no real hope of entering the playoffs. Shubman is an exceptional player, as we all know. He is still young and has a lot to learn. But I feel he is adjusting really well to the captaincy. ''But I feel it's a tough one too because the margins are so small, said Miller in his post-match press meet after GT went down to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets here on Saturday. Miller also identified the absence of veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who is recuperating after an ankle surgery, as a reason for their inefficiency with the ball in the Power Play. Shami, obviously, was really exceptional in the power play. So, we feel like we kind of miss him in the power play, as he picked up wickets and kept the economy rate down, said Miller. The Titans leaked 92 runs in the Power Play against RCB while defending a modest 148, and that tilted the match decisively in favour of the home side. The Gujarat side themselves were underwhelming in the Power Play with the bat, making just 23 runs, which was also the lowest by any team this season in that particular passage. In fact, GTs power play run-rate of 7.54 and strike-rate of 118.43 are the lowest among the 10 teams in this IPL, and they also have scored the least number of runs in the first six overs 469. The South African left-hander admitted that the Titans have misfired at the top with bat and ball. Their (RCB bowlers) lengths were a lot better than ours. But we just missed our length, and in the first two, two and a half, three overs where they were already on like 50-60 runs. ''It just looked like they (GT bowlers) were a little bit too far full. I think we were a little bit behind the 8-ball in the power play with our batting and bowling, he detailed. Unpacking the season so far for the Titans, Miller said they have not been able to win tight games, something the team excelled in the last couple of years. There are certain games that we potentially should have won, that we did lose and were pretty close. If we had won those two games, things would have been very different. ''We won crucial moments (last year) and this year we just haven't been able to win those crucial moments, hence losing the close games, he added.

Fake videos of Modi aides trigger political showdown in India election

Fake videos of Modi aides trigger political showdown in India election Manipulated videos are taking centre stage as campaigning heats up in India's election, with fake clips involving two top aides of Prime Minister Narendra Modi triggering police investigations and the arrest of some workers of his rival Congress party. In what has been dubbed as India's first AI election, Modi said last week fake voices were being used to purportedly show leaders making statements that we have never even thought of, calling it a conspiracy o create tension in society. Indian police -- already investigating the spread of fake videos showing Bollywood actors criticizing Modi -- are now investigating a doctored online clip that showed federal home minister Amit Shah saying the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party will stop certain social guarantees for minorities, a subject sensitive for millions of voters. Shah retorted on X, posting his original and the edited fake speech and alleging -- without providing any evidence -- that the main opposition Congress was behind the video it created to mislead the public. The minister said directions have been issued to the police to address this issue. Indian police arrested at least nine people, including six members of Congress' social media teams, in the states of Assam, Gujarat, Telangana and New Delhi last week for circulating the fake video, according to police statements. Five of the Congress workers were released on bail, but the most high-profile arrest made by the cyber crime unit of New Delhi police came on Friday, when they detained a Congress national social media coordinator, Arun Reddy, for sharing the video. New Delhi is one region where Shah's ministry directly controls police. Reddy has been sent into three-day custody. The arrest has sparked protests from Congress workers with many posting on X using the #ReleaseArunReddy tag. Congress lawmaker Manickam Tagore said the arrest was an example of authoritarian misuse of power by the regime. Congress' head of social media, Supriya Shrinate, did not respond to messages and an email seeking comment. MISINFORMATION India's election from April 19 to June 1 will be the world's largest democratic event. With nearly a billion voters and more than 800 million internet users, tackling the spread of misinformation is a high stakes job. It involves round-the-clock monitoring by police and election officials who often issue take down orders to Facebook and X as investigations start. In India's most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, more than 500 people keep tabs on online content, flagging controversial posts and coordinating with social media companies for their removal when needed, police chief Prashant Kumar told Reuters on Saturday. Another fake video that sparked a storm last week showed Yogi Adityanath, the state's chief minister, criticizing Modi for not doing enough for families of those who died in a 2019 militant attack. Though fact checkers said the video was created using different parts of an original clip, state police called it an AI generated, deepfake. Using internet address tracking, state police arrested a man named Shyam Gupta on May 2 who had shared the fake video post on X a day earlier, receiving over 3,000 views and 11 likes. The police have accused Gupta of forgery and promoting enmity under Indian law provisions that can carry a jail term of up to seven years if convicted. Reuters could not reach him as he is currently serving a 14-day custody period. This person is not a tech guy. Had he been tech savvy, arresting him quickly would not have been possible, said police officer Kumar.
