AICC High Command will Replace Revanth After LS Poll Results: Amit Shah

Hyderabad: Union home minister Amit Shah claimed that the Congress leadership would not allow Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to continue in the post after June 4, once the Lok Sabha election results are declared. He said Revanth Reddy was collecting `RR Tax (Rahul and Revanth Tax) at the behest of the party high command by squeezing the people. The Congress was using the money for its election campaign across the country. Addressing a public meeting at Parade Ground here, in support of party Malkajgiri candidate Etala Rajendar, and in Nizamabad for Dharmapuri Arvind, on Sunday, Shah assured that the BJP government at the Centre would ensure that the corrupt ATM of the Congress would be devoid of any cash, if the Telangana people blessed the party with 12 Lok Sabha seats and an MLA from the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly bypoll. Referring to a case filed against him by the city police after children were seen on the dais with him, Shah said that he will not cry like Revanth Reddy and that the case would be quashed in the High Court. Asking the people to elect Etala Rajendar from Malkajgiri, who belonged to the BC community, Shah said that the BJP would remove Muslim reservations and extend the same to the BCs, SCs and STs. The Congress was rephrasing this message and indulging in a false campaign against him. The Modi government had not removed any reservations. It banned triple talaq, abrogated Article 370 and constructed the Lord Rama temple in Ayodhya. As long as Modi and BJP are in this country, no one can remove reservations, he said. Alleging that the I.N.D.I alliance was a group without any acceptable leader, Shah asked people to choose between the Congress, which had indulged in scams to the tune of `12 lakh crore, and Modi, who had not faced a single corruption charge in his 10-year stint as Prime Minister nor when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat. Modi celebrates Diwali with jawans at the border, while Rahul Gandhi goes on a jolly trip to Bangkok, unable to bear the rising temperatures, he mocked. Addressing a public meeting in Nizamabad, Shah said that the Modi government would root out Naxalism. It had checked Pakistan-sponsored terror incidents. After the surgical strikes, Pakistan had realised that it was Modi and not Manmohan Singh who was in power in Delhi. Charging the Congress and BRS with adopting vote bank politics, Shah said that AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, the BRS and Congress, were known as the `ABC of Telangana and were busy in appeasement politics. The Congress government had not given permission for the Rama Navami Shobha Yatra to appease Owaisi, he said. Reacting to the doctored video featuring him, Shah said that Delhi police would approach Revanth Reddy in this regard. How can they spare you for releasing a fake video, he wondered. The Union home minister found fault with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks that people of the southern states were no way concerned about Jammu and Kashmir. He called upon people to elect Dharmapuri Arvind from Nizamabad for the second time in order to strengthen Modis leadership. Arvind had pursued the matter with the Prime Minister and secured the Turmeric Board for Nizamabad, he said. He said that the BJP-led Centre would establish a bidi workers hospital in Nizamabad and also reopen the Nizam Sugar Factory. Stating that people were searching for Congress candidate T. Jeevan Reddy, who has been the MLC for over five years, Amit Shah said that, on the contrary, Arvind will always be available for the people. Unlike the conventional trend of having a big public meeting for multiple constituencies and leaders, Rajendar opted for a big meeting for only the Malkajgiri constituency at Parade Ground on Sunday. Fans and followers of the party ensured a big turnout despite the sweltering hot weather.

CM Jagan Woos Muslims, Says He Firmly Backs 4 Per Cent Reservations for Them

Vijayawada: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as president of the YSR Congress is concentrating his attention on minority votes in 62 assembly constituencies where they are the deciding factor in the present assembly and LS polls in the state. These constituencies, out of the total 175, have the highest and moderate voting percentages supporting 4 per cent Muslim reservations. Jagan Reddy pushed Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu into a quandary by daring the TD chief to raise the Muslim reservation issue in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the three-party alliances election meetings in AP. Jagan Reddy said, On one hand, Chandrababu Naidu joined hands with the BJP, which promised to remove the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims. Conversely, in an attempt to secure votes from the minority community, Naidu resorts to a deceitful act of false affection, further betraying Muslims. I boldly assert this today: The 4 per cent reservation for Muslims must remain intact. This is my firm stance! Will Chandrababu dare to voice this in front of Modi? Will he disassociate himself from the NDA? What is the purpose of this alliance, Chandrababu? Why the pretence of affection? Why align with the NDA, which opposes Muslim reservation, while perpetuating such deceit in your gatherings? Jagan Reddy, in a bid to get the support of minorities, further asserted, The 4 per cent reservation given to minority brothers is not given based on religion. These reservations are not applied to upper castes among the Muslims. This 4 per cent reservation is on a backward class basis. Im questioning the BJP and other opposition parties on this. All religions have BCs and OCs, these are reservations given on a backward class basis, subject to the provisions of the Constitution. Is it moral to play politics on such reservations and mess with their lives? He added, We will support minorities on issues like 4 per cent reservation, NRC, CAA, and any such minority-related issue, Minority sentiments will be secured and supported by Jagan and his party. Political analysts say that the bold statement of Jagan Reddy, of the YSRC protecting the minorities, will turn as lethal as the BJPs firmness on the cancellation of Muslim reservations. If the TD supports it, then this would be a big disadvantage to Naidu in the present elections, they aver. They said the YSRC has already started a negative campaign against Naidu and TD, which would be intensified in the next couple of days. This posed a threat to TD and is an advantage to YSRC, as it had allocated 7 assembly seats to minorities out of 175. The Muslim voters are the deciding factor in Kadapa, Kurnool, Rajampeta, Nandyala, Guntur East, Kadiri, Nellore, Srisailam, Hindupur, Proddatur, Pileru, Anantapur, Adoni, Allagadda, Nandikokuru, Madanapalli, Guntakal, Punganur, Vijayawada West, Tadikonda, Chilakaluripet, Panyam, Palamaneru, Banaganapally, Narasaraopeta, Tirupati, Nellore (Rural), Guntur (West), Rajampet, Gurzala, Kodumuru, Ponnur, Sattenapalli, Atmakuru, Emiganuru, Kamalapuram. Giddalur, Penamalur, Pedakurapadu, Pulivendula, Tamballapally, Dhone, Maidukuru, Vijayawada Central, Nandigama, Kovvur, Mangalagiri, Jammalamadugu, Ongole, Machilipatnam, Eluru, Parchur, Visakhapatnam, Penukonda, Rayadurgam, Chandragiri, Dharmavaram, Udayagiri, Rayachoti, Gannavaram and Gudivada assembly segments. The analysts say that the Muslim minorities carry at least 25,000 to one lakh voted in these sixty assembly constituencies. Hence, Jagan Reddy is wooing these minorities to sweep the elections with the help of 4 per cent Muslim reservations in the present elections. Kurnool MLA Hafiz Khan said Jagan Reddy will definitely protect the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims and he will oppose laws like NRC and CAA. Muslims will not allow cancellation of the 4 per cent reservations at any cost and this issue will play an important role in the elections.

Only Cong Can Ensure All-Round Progress: Ranjith

Hyderabad: Chevella Congress candidate Dr G. Ranjith Reddy on Sunday said that the BJP and BRS candidates were making false promises only to divert the attention of voters. The Congress, which introduced and implemented welfare schemes in Telangana state, would also introduce similar welfare schemes on a national scale after it comes to power at the Centre, he said. Ranjith Reddy participated in an election campaign at Nagaram, Amir Pate, Kolla Padakal, and Maheshwaram villages in Maheshwaram mandal. KCR May Form a Liquor Front in Delhi, says Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: The Revanth Reddy government would fall if the BJP won a majority Lok Sabha seats, TS BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said, but his party was not interested in it as the leadership was clear that it should focus on strengthening itself in the state. It may be the agenda of Congress dissidents to dethrone the Revanth government or that of the BRS. We want the Revanth government to continue, he said at a meet-the-press programme organised by the Telangana Union of Working Journalists. He said the BRS had become irrelevant and would not win a single seat. He called BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao's statement of a coalition government at the Centre a day-dream. KCR can play a Liquor and Brandy Morcha or Front in Delhi, he said. On the comments by BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao that Hyderabad would be made a Union Territory if the BJP won a third term, Kishan Reddy said the nightmares of BRS leaders had increased after they lost power. The issue is not being discussed or debated anywhere, he said. Listing the achievements of the Modi government, Kishan Reddy said that he is finding the most favourable atmosphere for the party. A tsunami kind of under-current is sweeping even in rural areas and it would reflect on the counting day on June 4, he said. He challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for a debate on financial assistance from the Centre in the last 10 years to the state. The people are laughing at Revanth for his comment that the Centre had given `gadida guddu (donkeys egg) when the Centre has given `9.5 lakh crore to the state, he said.

Each block was barricaded to restrict flow of the pedestrians and stage performers remained at the forefront facing the route where roadshow took place. Over three dozen women party workers were also deputed to welcome Modi and perform various rituals when he arrived. Declared willful defaulter, petitioner challenges SBIs decision

Hyderabad: Justice S. Nanda of the Telangana High Court allowed a writ petition filed by Ritesh Kumar and others challenging the action of the SBI in declaring them wilful defaulters. The petitioners, promoters of Rajvir Industries, said the SBI had moved an application for an insolvency resolution process against the company. The bank also issued a showcause notice citing the petitioner as a wilful defaulter as determined by an identification committee. The petitioner sought a copy of the forensic audit report, which was refused as being confidential. It was the case of the petitioner that being declared wilful defaulter was a matter of serious civic consequence and the procedure followed by the bank was in utter violation of the petitioners fundamental rights. It was further the case of the petitioners that they did not receive any order issued by the wilful defaulter review committee, which did not apply its mind independently. Referring to the verdict of the Supreme Court in a similar matter, Justice Nanda echoed the observations of the apex court which had said declaration of account as fraud observed that principles of natural justice demand that the borrowers must be served a notice given an opportunity to explain the findings in the forensic audit report (FAR) before the account is declared as fraud. This indicates that the forensic audit report must be necessarily supplied to the borrower prior to declaring an account as fraud. This court in principle opines that the same principles of natural justice need to be necessarily followed prior to declaring the petitioners as defaulters or willful defaulters and the petitioners should be furnished with a copy of the FAR. BH liquor shop under HC scrutiny The alleged illegal construction of Tales over Spirits, an uptown liquor outlet, came up for scrutiny before the Telangana High Court. Hearing a writ petition field by Konda Chandrashekar, a businessman from Pragatinagar, Justice T. The petitioner was aggrieved by the civic authorities winking at the alleged unauthorised constructions raised by Tales over Spirit on Road No. 3 Banjara Hills without securing building permission. It was also contended that the construction was in violation of the Telangana Municipalities Act and the TS-bPASS Act. PM Modi rebukes dynastic politics, pledges legacy of development in UP poll rally

LUCKNOW: Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticized Congress and Samajwadi Party, emphasizing his humble background and questioning the dynastic credentials and legacy of the India Alliance partners in Uttar Pradesh. While addressing massive poll rallies in Etawah and Dhaurarha, on Sunday, the PM said that while he would go into the history of nation as one Chaiwala who broke the tradition of a Prime Ministers son becoming the PM or CM, the legacy of Congress and SP leaders was related to affluence and political power games. Both the constituencies will vote in Phase four polls on May 13. The PM also held a 2-km roadshow in the temple town of Ayodhya after taking darshan of Ram Lalla late on Sunday evening. It was his first visit to Ram temple after the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla on January 22. Earlier, in Etawah, the PM said he was paving the way for the country not just for coming five years but for the next 25 years adding that Modi may not be there, this country will always remain till eternity, he said. Claiming that both Congress and SP were fighting the ensuing polls for their future generation, the PM said that he and UP CM Yogi Adityanath had no kids and both were working day in and day out for the children of countrymen. While my legacy is associated with every Indian, some consider Mainpuri, Kannauj, and Etawah as their rightful citadels and some others (read Congress leaders) regard Amethi-Rae Bareli as their personal estates. But Modi's legacy is all about a pucca house for the poor, a toilet for women, electricity, gas, water, free grains, free healthcare, a National Education Policy, asserted the PM. Taking a dig at the SP, the PM said that those who claimed to be the messiah of Yadavs could not find a Yadav outside the SPs first family to give ticket in ensuing Lok Sabha polls. On the contrary, in the BJP, any Karyakarta could reach the highest positions, he added. Notably, the SP has fielded five members of Yadav clan across UP this time including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav from Kannauj, his wife Dimple from Mainpuri, his cousins Akshay from Ferozabad, Aditya from Badaun and Dharmendra from Azamgarh -- all of them come from Yadav clan. The PM also remembered SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav who had wished him with victory in 2019. Reiterating his stand over reservation to SC, ST and OBC, the PM while claiming that the Congress manifesto had the imprints of Muslim League as the grand old party had a design to rob the Dalits and OBC of their 27 per reservation and hand it over to their vote bank on religious line as was done in Karnataka. Till the time Modi is alive, he will not let these parties succeed in their designs, he said adding that the opposition was spreading lies about the Constitution and provisions of reservation. Realising that Etawah has dominant Yadav population, the PM brought the issue of his diving deep into the sea and worshipping the undersea Dwarika shrine saying how could the Yaduvanshis join hands with those who mocked him for underwater prayers. Those in UP, who say they are Yaduvanshi, the leader who takes the benefits of being a Yaduvanshi, I want to ask him, how can he sit with a party which insults Lord Krishna? How can you have an agreement with them? asked the PM adding: While criticizing Modi, they have begun to disrespect Lord Krishna's worship. Initially, they claimed there was nothing beneath the sea in Dwarka. Now, they ridicule Lord Krishna's worship, showing no respect for our faith, he said. In Dhaurahra in Sitapur, Modi said Muslims had started understanding that the Congress and INDIA bloc were using them as pawns, asserting that the community was also coming along the BJP after seeing the development done by it. He also said that the poor and those belonging to the SC, ST and OBC communities had distanced themselves from the Congress and the opposition alliance, and come to the BJP. Politics of appeasement has become compulsory for the existence of 'shehzade' of SP and Congress, he said in an apparent attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav. The PM appreciated the UP CM Yogi Adityanath for the marked improvement in law and order situation and overall transformation of the state for good. Slamming the opposition for defaming indigenous COVID-19 vaccines, the PM said that they got themselves vaccinated secretly but sparked fear among people by calling it BJP vaccine which was unsafe.

Congress Leader Vijay Wadettiwar Claims Karkare Killed by RSS-Affiliated Cop, Not Kasab

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Sunday sparked a controversy after he alleged that an RSS-affiliated cop and not Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab killed former state anti-terrorism squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. Wadettiwar claimed that Ujjwal Nikam, the BJP candidate from Mumbai North Central, tried to hide the truth from the court, when he was the public prosecutor in the 26/11 terror attack trial in which Ajmal Kasab was sentenced to death. Wadettiwar, a former minister, on Saturday had said, Hemant Karkare was not killed by bullets of terrorists like Ajmal Kasab, but by a policeman close to RSS. Ujjwal Nikam, who appeared as special public prosecutor, is a traitor who suppressed this fact and BJP has given an election ticket to a traitor like him. Karkare, who was killed in action during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, was posthumously awarded Ashok Chakra, Indias highest bravery award. Nikam, who is up against Congress Varsha Gaikwad on the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha seat, said that he was pained by such baseless allegations which raised doubts over his integrity. He (Wadettiwar) is insulting not me, but the 166 departed souls and all persons injured in the 26/11 attacks, Nikam said. However, Wadettiwar on Sunday clarified saying that he was quoting from a book Who Killed Karkare? written by former Inspector General of Police SM Mushrif. Hemant Karkare was not killed by terrorists bullets. This is written in the book of police officer SM Mushrif. Why did Ujjwal Nikam not bring this to the fore? Mushrif has written in his book that Karkare was killed by a bullet and that bullet is not of extremists (terrorists)... It is not a big deal to hang Ajmal Kasab, any ordinary lawyer could have done this, Wadettiwar said. The Congress leaders allegations came on the backdrop of BJPs advertisements in state newspapers asking people where their vote will cause celebrations India or Pakistan? The Congress has lodged a complaint of violation of model code of conduct at the Election Commission accusing the saffron party of polarisation. Meanwhile, reacting to Wadettiwars statement, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule said, How much Congress can stoop to any level to get votes in an election? Congress should feel ashamed of it. Just to oppose the BJP, he (Wadettiwar) is taking the side of terrorist Ajmal Kasab, he said. Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar has written to Election Commission asking the poll agency to take action against Wadettiwar for his inflammatory remarks. According to Shelars complaint, Wadettiwars remarks allegedly propagate false narratives that violate the Model Code of Conduct and also reportedly risk inciting communal tension and causing enmity among communities. Shelar has alleged that Wadettiwars statements directly contradict established legal outcomes and court judgments, challenging the authority and integrity of the judiciary. He asserts that such actions constitute a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and incite communal discord, in violation of several provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.

Amit Shah Lambasts YSRC Rule in AP

Amit Shah lambasts YSRC rule in AP NAGABHUSHANAM HOSKOTE | DC ANANTAPUR, MAY 5 Union Home Minister Amit Shah came down heavily on the YSRC government on Sunday, saying it was failing to fulfill the needs of the state, including completion of the Polavaram project in the past five years. The TD-JS-BJP alliance was formed to end gundagiri, criminal activities and corruption, and re-establish Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, protect the sacredness of Lord Venkateswara and preserve the Telugu language, Amith Shah claimed. While praising the efforts of TD chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the home minister observed that Naidu as CM of united AP took the state to the top. Even after the bifurcation, he started the development process of the state, but now, Jagan Reddy derailed all those efforts, Shah said. Amith Shah was addressing an election meeting for the BJP candidate from Dharmavaram assembly segment Satya Kumar at Dharmavaram in Satya Sai district. He said Jagan Mohan Reddy had kept none of his promises and development stands at 0, investment stands at 0 and unemployment is at its peak, even with a rise in the states debt to `13.50 lakh crore. The Infrastructure projects are all shut down, but the projects of the land mafia are going on in full force. Jagan Reddy promised a ban on alcohol. Did he implement the ban? Instead, he started a whole syndicate of alcohol in the state. The Union minister criticised the Jagan Mohan Reddy government for undermining the Telugu language and promised that the BJP would safeguard it as long as we are in power. Shah emphasized the importance of the Polavaram project as a lifeline for Andhra Pradesh, crediting the BJP for its national status and promising rapid completion of the project in two years if the BJP-led government is elected at both the state and central levels. He accused the Jagan-led state administration of delaying the project due to corruption. Shah made it clear that the BJP, TDP and Jana Sena have formed a coalition in Andhra Pradesh specifically to end the corruption and chaotic administration in the state. He highlighted the coalition's commitment to fight corruption and criminal elements, and said his presence in Dharmavaram was to strengthen this fight. He noted that two phases of the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections had already concluded, and expressed confidence in the coalition's prospects in the third phase too. TD chief N Chandrababu Naidu called on the people to support the alliance to complete Amaravati state capital, Polavaram and other pending projects in addition to the manifesto of the alliance. Interestingly, several party workers displayed Jr NTR photos and banners in the public meeting.

Siddaramaiah Asserts Strong Prospects in Karnataka, Predicts Victory in 20 Seats

Belagavi: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah exuded confidence in the Congress Party's prospects in Karnataka, predicting victory in at least 20 seats in the ongoing Parliament Election. Speaking at a joint press conference alongside Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president DK Shivakumar, and AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, Siddaramaiah outlined the party's optimism based on feedback from local workers. In the first phase of the election for 14 constituencies, our information and inputs from local workers indicate a potential win of 8-9 seats. Looking ahead to the second phase on May 7, we anticipate securing more than 10 seats. In total, we are poised to clinch at least 20 seats in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah affirmed. Speaking about the party's track record, Siddaramaiah highlighted the fulfillment of promises made before the Assembly elections. We delivered on all five guarantees within 8 months of assuming power. This track record, along with our fulfillment of 158 out of 165 promises during our 2013-18 tenure, instills faith in the electorate, he claimed. Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Siddaramaiah pointed at the lack of acknowledgment of his administration's achievements of two terms. Modi fails to enumerate even 10 accomplishments of his 10-year tenure. Instead, his rhetoric focuses on divisive tactics, neglecting substantive achievements, Siddaramaiah alleged. He also pointed at the BJP's skepticism regarding guarantee schemes. They initially claimed that the guarantees were unimplementable. Subsequently, they warned of bankrupting the state if the guarantees were enforced. They also alleged that developmental projects would cease and the gurantee schemes would culminate before parliamentary elections. These assertions are all baseless falsehoods, the CM said. Contrary to BJP's assertions, guarantee schemes are sustainable, with allocations reserved for both guarantees and development. This commitment will persist, he reassured, detailing the state government's budgetary allocations. Describing the election as a second freedom movement, Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of undermining constitutional principles. He criticized BJP MPs for their perceived inaction on behalf of Karnataka, asserting, None of BJP's 25 MPs have voiced concerns for Kannadigas. DK Shivakumar questioned BJP's moral authority to seek votes. BJP's decade-long tenure lacks significant accomplishments. This election represents a battle between the truth of Congress and BJP's falsehoods, Shivakumar asserted. Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar urged voters to rebuff the BJP in the upcoming election.

Age Old Rivals Gear Up for Do or Die Poll in Sarvepalli

Tirupati: Nellore's Sarvepalli constituency, a bastion that has nurtured eminent political stalwarts, finds itself at the epicenter of an intense electoral battle between the ruling YSR Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam. This constituency, steeped in historical significance, has witnessed a dynamic shift in political allegiances over the decades. Its political landscape has been shaped by the legacies of illustrious leaders like Bezawada Gopala Reddy, a former chief minister of the erstwhile Andhra state who represented the region in the 1950s. Sarvepalli has been a Congress bastion since 1955, with its candidates emerging triumphant in eight elections till now. However, there was a shift in fortunes from 1983 to 1999, when the TD clinched the seat. The Congress regained its foothold by winning the 2004 and 2009 elections, and currently, it is the YSRC that holds the MLA position. At the heart of this electoral clash lies a high-stakes contest between incumbent agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy, vying for an unprecedented third consecutive term, and TDs politburo member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, a former minister who has endured a string of consecutive defeats in the past four elections. Undeterred by his previous setbacks, Somireddy is gearing up for a fifth and potentially defining electoral battle. As the campaign trail intensifies, allegations of corruption and personal animosity have added fuel to the already fiery rivalry between Kakani and Somoireddy. The minister has levelled accusations of amassing wealth, including properties abroad, against his opponent, further escalating the tensions between the two adversaries. He is banking on his political clout and mounted an intense campaign to secure a third consecutive term. On the other hand, Somireddy, bolstered by the support of his son Raja Gopala Reddy and daughter-in-law Sruthi Reddy, has taken the electoral battle to the grassroots, engaging with local residents and championing long-standing issues. His recent agitation against the port authorities over the alleged shutdown of the Krishnapatnam container terminal, which could imperil thousands of jobs and substantial revenue, has garnered him sympathy and positioned him as a formidable contender. Analysts predict a fiercely contested election, with the YSRC touting its development initiatives and the fulfillment of manifesto promises, while the TD capitalizes on anti-incumbency sentiments and the defection of disgruntled YSRCP leaders to its ranks. The migration of influential figures from the ruling party to the opposition, coupled with allegations of neglect and parallel administration, has compounded the challenges faced by the incumbent YSRC. Pubs Hiring Women to Entice Customers With Sexual Overtones

Hyderabad: Some pubs in the city have been adopting devious means to increase their collections. They are hiring women who entice male customers with obscene gestures and sexual overtones. These establishments tap women who are unemployed and those staying in hostels. On being recruited, they are trained by the management on methods to trap customers like performing obscene dances or consuming liquor with the customer in order to maximise their bills, police sources said. In this connection, a west zone task force team with Banjara Hills police raided After 9 Pub in the limits of Banjara Hills police station late on Saturday night and arrested over 171 persons, including two managers, a DJ operator, five bouncers, and 32 women who were enticing customers with indecent performances at the behest of the management, said S. Rashmi Perumal, DCP (task force) in a press release here on Sunday. The management of the bar sexually objectified women, which is immoral and unethical, she said. Satish, the owner of After 9 Pub, is reportedly in Visakhapatnam and he has been served a notice. Recently, a north zone task force team raided Urvasi Bar and Restaurant at Begumpet, where women were engaged for similar purposes. Police sources disclosed that the excise and prohibition wing and GHMC have been urged to cancel licences of establishments found using women in an immoral way to boost their revenues and profits. Rashmi cautioned the management of pubs and bars in the twin cities to ensure that their premises are run legally. We will be conducting surprise raids on pubs and taking appropriate action. We will depute our teams in plain dress and keep a tab on the activities of pub managements, inspector Raghavendra said.

People in SCB Area Trust Me, Says Sri Ganesh

Hyderabad: Sri Ganesh, Congress candidate for the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly bypoll, said that two elevated corridor projects that were pending for years under the BRS regime were started within 100 days of the Congress coming to power in the state, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy resolving land acquisition issues to ensure seamless connectivity from Secunderabad to northern Telangana. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle . Sri Ganesh said he had empathy towards the family of former Cantonment MLA Lasya Nanditha, who died in a road accident, but emotions alone would not develop a constituency. Taking on BRS candidate G. Niveditha, sister of Nanditha, he said that BRS members had protested when she was declared as the candidate. Excerpts: Q. How do you rate the 100 days of Congress administration? Apart from implementing the guarantees promised during the Assembly elections, the Congress government under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has brought two new elevated corridors to improve the connectivity between Secunderabad and northern Telangana. While the BRS failed to do it for years, this government did it within 100 days of coming to power. Q. Five-time MLA G. Sayanna died last year, and his daughter G. Lasya Nanditha died in a road mishap this year. How will these deaths impact the bypoll? I have empathy towards the Sayanna family for their loss, but emotion will not develop a constituency. When Niveditha was declared as the BRS candidate, her own party members protested against the decision. The Sayanna family has been representing Secunderabad Cantonment in the Assembly for several years. But this area does not have basic amenities like a good education health infrastructure and water supply. While the rest of the city pays 7.5 per cent stamp duty for property registration, people in Secunderabad Cantonment pay 11 per cent. Obtaining a building permit is a strenuous task. To date, 40 per cent of people dont have pattas and the residents pay more property tax compared to others. Is this what the Sayanna family achieved after holding the post of MLA for so many years? 3. You have joined the Congress from the BJP ahead of the polls. How is your rapport with the cadre? Revolutionary balladeer Gaddars daughter G.V. Vennela is the Congress incharge for the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency. She is extending her full support. The Congress cadre is working for my victory and also for the victory of the (Malkajgiri) Lok Sabha candidate Patnam Sunitha Mahender Reddy. Q. The closure of roads by the Local Military Authority (LMA) has always been a poll issue. How will you address it? The acquisition of defence land, which seemed to be an impossible task, was completed within 100 days by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The issues related to road closure will be resolved. Q. What impact will the Lok Sabha election have on your prospects in the bypoll? People across the country are with the Congress. So the Lok Sabha polls will benefit me. People in Secunderabad Cantonment have seen the work I did for this constituency. I provided education to the poor, health camps, and civic works with my money. I am far ahead in the battle compared to the BRS and the BJP, and more accessible to people compared to the other contestants. Q. The SCB-GHMC merger is also a poll issue. Revanth Reddy is keen on the merger of the Secunderabad Cantonment area with GHMC. As soon as I get elected I will speed up the process.

Poll Season Sees Uptick in Wildlife Poaching Attempts

Hyderabad: Its not just leaders of political parties who are being poached by their rival parties. Even the wildlife in Telangana, if the goings on in the states forests are any indication, are being poached by hunters who are having a somewhat free run as a result of some of the forest department staff being deployed for election duties. In the latest such incident, three would-be poachers were nabbed during a hunt in the Madhira forest range in Khammam district on the night of May 3. The forest officials confiscated a single-barrel country-made rifle nine live cartridges and two spent cartridges from their possession. This was the third in a series of arrests of poachers in the district since the first week of April. In the first incident, two persons from Hyderabad and one from Andhra Pradesh were caught in the Talleda forest range. That hunt was arranged by a local mediator. On April 29, two were arrested after they killed a sambar deer in the Madhira forest range, and efforts are on to nab them with the help of AP police who bought the meat from the poachers. According to Siddharth Vikram Singh, district forest officer for Khammam, two of the three arrested on May 3 night were from AP and the third was a local person who facilitated the attempted hunt. They had taken two shots at some deer near a water hole but missed. Some of our staff who noticed torchlight beams along an incline in the forest went to investigate. Taking great risk in the face of two armed people, forest beat officer Nageshwar Rao and forest section officer U. Suresh, overpowered and arrested them, Vikram Singh said. The arrested were identified as Anumolu Srinivasa Rao, Poola Krishna Rao from NTR district of AP, and Parisee Mareswara Rao from G. Goparam village in Khammam district. According to some department officials, such increased poaching activity usually occurs during large festivals when forest staff is also deployed for bandobast duties but this was the first time that this was being noticed during elections. While in some districts, the deployment of forest staff for poll duties is around 10 per cent of the staff, in some cases, it is up to 60 to 70 per cent, forest officials said. Poaching is easier in summers as most water sources dry up and animals begin congregating near the few sources that still can provide water for drinking. And we are stepping up our vigil at all water bodies in the forest, the official added.
