IPL 2024: Clinical Bowlers Help CSK Jump To Third Place With 28-run Win Over PBKS
Chennai Super Kings: A clinical bowling performance, led by Ravindra Jadejas three-fer, along with Simarjeet Singh and Tushar Deshpande taking two wickets each, helped Chennai Super Kings jump to third place in the points table after beating Punjab Kings by 28 runs at the HPCA Stadium on Sunday afternoon. After restricting CSK to 167/9, thanks to three-fers from Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel, PBKS were on course to chase down the total by reaching 62/2 in 7.5 overs. But after that, PBKS suffered a batting meltdown to be reduced to 90/8 and eventually ended up with 139/9. Jadejas spell of 3-20 in the middle overs turned the game on its head, while Simarjeet and Deshpande returned with figures of 2-16 and 2-35 respectively to derail PBKS chase. Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur also took a wicket each to ensure CSK got back into the top four of the points table. CSK had a bright start to their defense of 168 when Deshpande castled Jonny Bairstow with a straighter delivery and followed it up by beating Rilee Rossouw for pace to knock over his stumps. Both of his dismissals came on length balls and seam movement aiding him to make the double-strike. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh hit eight boundaries between themselves before Santner pulled his length back a little bit to have the latter hole out to long-on. That triggered a batting implosion for PBKS as Prabhsimran holed out to extra cover off Jadeja and Jitesh Sharma nicked behind off Impact Player Simarjeet. Though Ashutosh Sharma was dropped early on, he was hit twice on the body by Simarjeet. The pressure built by CSK gave them rewards when Jadeja had Sam Curran holing out to long-on and Ashutosh gave a catch to short third man. Simarjeets persistence paid off when Harshal Patel miscued a pull to mid-wicket, as PBKS were reduced to 90/8. Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar tried to delay the inevitable by hitting five boundaries collectively before Thakur hit the formers off-stump while going for a scoop. The pacer gave away just seven runs in the final over to ensure CSK got a vital win. Brief scores: Chennai Super Kings 167/9 in 20 overs (Ravindra Jadeja 43, Ruturaj Gaikwad 32; Rahul Chahar 3-23, Harshal Patel 3-24) beat Punjab Kings 133/9 in 20 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 30, Shashank Singh 27; Ravindra Jadeja 3-20, Simarjeet Singh 2-160 by 28 runs

IPL 2024: Jadeja shines bright in Dharamsala to keep Super Kings on track
CHENNAI: All-round Ravindra Jadeja (43 runs from 26 balls and 3/20) helped Chennai Super Kings beat Punjab Kings by 28 runs at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala on Sunday. Chasing 168, Punjab were off to a horror start. Tushar Deshpande struck not once but twice to send both Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw packing. First, an inswinger to the right-hander and then an outswinger to Rossouw meant two clean bowled reduced PBKS to 9/2. However, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh came out all guns blazing. They hit 15 runs off Richard Gleeson and followed it up with another 16-run over against Deshpande. Things took a turn when Mitch Santner was brought back. The New Zealander removed Shashank for 27 runs from 20 balls and Jadeja piled on with the wicket of Prabhsimran. Simranjeet Singh added to Punjab's misery as Jitesh Sharma's poor form continued. Punjab were 72/5 at the halfway mark. They had pinned all the hopes on Sam Curran and Ashutosh Sharma, but Jadeja sent back both the batters in the same over. It was only a matter of time from there as Punjab scrapped their way to 139/9 in 20 overs. Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane's poor form continued as he fell in the second over for nine runs. Joined by Daryl Mitchell, Ruturaj Gaikwad kept the innings going. Gaikwad flicked Kagiso Rabada for a four before Mitchell took on Arshdeep Singh. Mitchell and Gaikwad hit Harpreet Brar for 19 runs as Super Kings finished the powerplay with 60/1. Soon, things went downhill. Rahul Chahar struck twice to send back both Gaikwad and Shivam Dube in his first over. Harshal Patel trapped Mitchell on the pads, putting CSK in trouble. Jadeja tried to keep the innings going with consecutive fours off Harshal while Moeen Ali went after Rabada. However, it was short-lived as Curran removed Ali. Santner too fell shortly after, leaving Chennai at 122/6. However, Shardul Thakur hit 17 from 11 balls before getting out to Harshal. MS Dhoni walked out to bat but Harshal delivered a dipping yorker to clean him up. From thereon, Jadeja (43 off 26) delivered a couple of big hits to take Super Kings to 167/9.
