Surveillance on 350 Female MNC Staff as ISIS Targets Women Employees

NEW DELHI: In a massive operation, security agencies have mounted surveillance on as many as 350 women employees in the critical security verticals of multinational companies, mostly American in origin. Sources privy to the development said these women, handling sensitive roles in the security architecture of multinational companies, are being targeted by international terror outfits like ISIS with the ulterior motive of exploiting them for future sinister plots. A banned terror outfit from Kerala has reached out to these women under the guise of similar jobs or being employed by such companies. They have also taken accommodations in proximity to their residences, the sources said. The Kerala-based terror group, which subsequently shifted its headquarters to Shaheen Bagh in the national capital over a decade ago, has planted its handlers to tap female employees who might be oblivious to the insidious terror tactic. While the activities of the local terror outfit were first noticed by the agencies about six months ago, the surveillance net was cast about two months ago. The women being targeted by the terror groups are mostly employed in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal. Besides surveillance, the agencies are also investigating their family backgrounds to enlist support in persuading the women from going astray. ISIS is estimated to have targeted the Indian diaspora in West Asia, who in turn identified gullible women professionals back home to enlist them for their insidious agenda. These women could be used to cause major operational disruptions in the MNCs, potentially affecting consumer interests and damaging India's brand image. Through surveillance, the agencies aim to unravel the larger network of terror groups and their expansive footprint to secure national interests, the sources said. While ISIS has no intention of holding territory in India, they aim to recruit cadres to further the Jihadi agenda in the outfits theaters of influence. Without divulging specifics, a source in the Delhi police said, We do keep a watch on such suspects through technical and human means when we get specific leads. What has worried the agencies is that technically proficient youths have joined ISIS ranks. The recent conviction of a professionally qualified Kashmiri couple, the husband being an engineering graduate with an MBA and the wife having an IT background, who joined ISIS and were recently convicted in a terror case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), highlights this trend. The Kashmiri couple was linked to the Islamic State-Khorasan Province, a front group of ISIS, despite holding degrees like B.Tech and MBA. Jahanzaib Sami Wani and his wife, Hina Bashir Beigh, moved to the national capital in 2019 from Jammu and Kashmir. Jahanzaib was employed at a United Kingdom-based company, and his spouse had a bachelors degree in computer applications with an MBA. She served at some banks before taking a break for her wedding on October 6, 2019, when Srinagar was still under lockdown after Article 370 was repealed by the Centre on August 5 that year. The couple was convicted on terror charges on May 6 in the 2020 case originally registered by the special cell of the Delhi police and subsequently taken over by the NIA. First arrest warrant issued against absconding MP Prajwal Revanna

BENGALURU: The first arrest warrant was issued on Saturday against Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who had been absconding after the sexual abuse cases registered against him. Sources confirmed that the warrant was issued by the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court following an application by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) established to investigate the cases against Prajwal. However, sources in the SIT refused to reveal the grounds mentioned in the application filed before the court seeking the issuing of the arrest warrant and asked what more grounds are required than the grave charges against him. The warrant against the MP, who is facing three such cases, is seen as the first step toward seeking the cancellation of his passport, which would compel him to return back to India, an SIT official told TNIE. No objection to action against Prajwal, but case has been 'created' against H D Revanna: Deve Gowda The JD(S) MP fled the country shortly after the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls concluded in Karnataka on April 26. Earlier, Interpol issued a Blue Corner Notice seeking information on his whereabouts following a request by the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). However, there has not been any response yet. It was also learnt that the absconding MP who was earlier said to be in Germany has travelled via train to London along with two friends. It is said that an Indian origin London-based businessman helped Prajwal to commute and that his friends, who accompanied him on train, are said to be from Dubai and Bengaluru. However, SIT officials did not confirm the same. It was earlier said that the accused MP had booked flight tickets to come to India on May 15. SIT officials who have collected the bank account details of Prajwal have reportedly freezed seven of his bank accounts and the team is also gathering information about those who deposited money in the accounts.

According to the TS Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Miyapur received 45 mm, Chandanagar 38 mm, and Serilingampally 42 mm of rainfall. Soldiers, borders safe under Modi: Anurag Thakur

Soldiers, borders safe under Modi: Anurag Thakur India's borders and its soldiers are safe under the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said on Saturday and alleged that the Congress' ''hand'' is always with foreign powers. Thakur made the remarks while campaigning in the Chintpurni and the Jaswan-Pragpur assembly segments of the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, from where he is seeking a fifth consecutive victory. He said, ''Our Army became stronger, its morale was boosted and the borders were strengthened under Modi's rule while nothing was safe during the Congress regime.'' Hitting out at the grand old party while referring to its election symbol, Thakur said, ''The Congress' 'hand' is always with foreign powers. It handed over thousands of acres of Indian land to the enemies and even today, when our soldiers are showing their bravery in Doklam, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is meeting with Chinese officials.'' He also attacked the Congress over the 2016 surgical strike. Thakur said, ''When our Army entered Pakistan and killed the terrorists, these people were demanding proof. Even today, when elections are around the corner, these people are saying that India's nuclear weapons should be abolished.'' India had conducted the surgical strike in September 2016 across the Line of Control as a response to a terror attack on an Army base in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector. Thakur added that even ''our daughters'' are today holding AK-47s and have the courage to ''bury'' enemies. He noted that there used to be direct interference by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir and every day there were reports of terror incidents and stone pelting but the Modi-led government removed Article 370 and instilled peace and tranquillity in the Valley. As a result, stone pelting has completely stopped and the terrorists are counting their last breaths, the minister claimed. Thakur also hit out at the state's Congress government. He alleged that the Congress formed the government in Himachal Pradesh by making false promises. Now, during the Lok Sabha elections, it is once again trying to cheat women by making them fill forms to get Rs 1,500 per month. ''Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had openly said after coming to power that 'we have formed the government by defeating 97 per cent Hindus','' Thakur claimed. ''Do they intend to cut the reservation meant for SCs, STs and OBCs and give it to Muslims, along the lines of Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh?'' The BJP leader said that 10 years ago, the country uprooted a ''corrupt and chaotic'' government and replaced it with an honest one. In these 10 years, Modi gave his 100 per cent and worked to live up to the hopes and aspirations of the people and today India has earned its place in the ''top five'', Thakur said. All this happened with the power of the public's vote, he asserted.

Heavy rain forecast for state in last week of May

Visakhapatnam : A low pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. It is likely to move initially northeast-wards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal around May 24. It is too early to assess its path and forecast whether it will intensify into a deep depression and cyclone. But the system will bring in heavy rains throughout the last week of May over north coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, said senior scientist at IMD Amaravati Dr. S. Karunasagar. A source said conditions are favourable for further intensification of the system. However, as there are dissimilarities between models and forecasts, it would be difficult to say further without more clarity. Karunasagar said the system is likely to propel the southwest monsoon towards the Kerala coast. The monsoon might touch Kerala on June 1 as per the usual schedule and Rayalaseema in Andhra Pradesh on June 5 or June 6. Currently, a trough from south Chhattisgarh to Comorin area is running to south interior Karnataka across Telangana and Rayalaseema 3.1 km above mean sea level. The cyclonic circulation over Rayalaseema and adjoining north Tamil Nadu extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level has become less marked. Under these two systems, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty wind with speed reaching 3040 kmph are likely at isolated places over north coastal and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema from Sunday to May 22.

BJP wants 400 seats in LS to get rid of Constitution, have Manusmriti in its place: CPI-M's Yechury

BJP wants 400 seats in LS to get rid of Constitution, have Manusmriti in its place: CPI-M's Yechury CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Saturday attacked the BJP saying that the party wants more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha to get rid of the Constitution and have Manusmriti in its place. They ask for 400 seats so that they can get rid of the Constitution and have their Manusmithi as the order for India's society in the future under a fascistic dictatorship. That is what they want to do. But the people are rejecting it, Yechury told ANI. He also accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of being ignorant of the Constitution, saying that the Constitution does not talk about any reservations for OBCs as the Chief Minister said in a public rally in Bihar and that under the Constitution reservations are for backwardness. Earlier in the day, while opposing the idea of providing reservations to Muslims Sarma said, In the Constitution, it is mentioned that SC, ST, and OBC should get reservations. Reacting to this, Yechury said, First of all he should be a little knowledgeable about Indian History. The Constitution does not talk about any reservation for OBCs. OBC thing came only after the Mandal Commission, it is not something Babasaheb Ambedkar gave. They keep dropping his name and creating their history. They don't even know the constitution on which they took an oath to become chief Ministers. This is the pathetic state of affairs of this party called the BJP. As far as the reservation issue is concerned, the Constitution is very clear it is the reservation for backwardness. It is not a reservation based on religion. So Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes reservations are reservations for their backwardness. They are not given reservations for their being part of the Hindu religion, he added. He said that backwardness can be there with anybody of any religion. You could be a Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Sikh or an atheist and still be backward. So backwardness is the criteria, not the religion, he said. Addressing a public rally in Raghunathpur, Siwan, on Saturday, the Assam CM said that no reservations will be made on the basis of religion. Few days back I saw the statement of Lalu Yadav, where he said that 'Muslims should get reservations'. Do Hindus don't deserve to get reservations? Babasaheb Ambedkar gave us the Constitution. In the Constitution, it is mentioned that SC, ST, and OBC should get reservations. There will be no reservations on the basis of religion. I want to say this, Lalu Yadav, if you want to give reservations to Muslims, then I will buy you the tickets to Pakistan, go to Pakistan and then give reservations there. It will never happen in India. There is no law on this. Yeh Sapna bhi aap mat dekho (don't dream of this), Assam CM said. Citing examples from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the Assam CM alleged that such measures came at the expense of other backward classes. Karnataka's decision to grant reservations to Muslims was done after robbing the reservations of Backward classes, he said. The Assam CM asserted that to bring the entire Jammu and Kashmir to India, the Bharatiya Janata Party needs 400 seats in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. One part of Kashmir is in Pakistan. Give 400 seats to Modi ji and we will get Kashmir from Pakistan. We closed 700 madrassas in Assam and no one raised their voice against it. Why? Because this is a new India...Aaj mullah banane ka dukaan khulne nahi dunga. Doctor , engineer, banane ka kaam karunga...We need 400 seats so that we can bring the Uniform Civil Code, construct the Krishna Janambhoomi temple, construct the Gyanvapi temple and stop reservation to Muslims. That's why we need 400 seats, he said. (ANI)

Shocked by PM's remarks on Shakti scheme causing loss to metro: DK Shivakumar

BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday said that he is shocked by the reported statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Shakthi scheme had resulted in loss of revenue for the Bengaluru metro. Under the 'Shakti' scheme implemented by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government, women can avail free travel in state-run buses. Hitting out at Modi, the state deputy chief minister said that the prime minister lacks information on the Shakthi scheme and hence he has said that it has impacted revenues of the Bengaluru metro. Namma metro has earned a revenue of Rs 130 crore in the last one year. Footfalls too have gone up by 30 per cent for the same period. Bengaluru metro is limited to Bengaluru, while the Shakthi scheme is rolled out, keeping in mind people from across the state, he told reporters here. The Shakthi scheme is rolled out by the Congress to ease the burden of price rise and inflation on women, Shivakumar said. Metro is a joint initiative between the State and the Centre and it has done well over the last one year. Someone seems to have provided incorrect information to the prime minister, he added. I would like to convey to the PM that the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bengaluru metro are being run efficiently while offering the Shakthi scheme to women. Women are taking 60 lakh trips per day in Karnataka. They are very happy with the Shakthi scheme. Many other states are expressing interest in Shakthi scheme, he said. PM Modi has reportedly spoken in an interview on bus and the Metro rail services and whether or not he made a specific reference to Karnataka is not known. When asked if there was a shortage of buses in North Karnataka, Shivakumar said, We have already taken a decision to buy 1,000 new buses. Of these, 100 buses have been allocated to Ramanagara district. Buses will be allocated to North Karnataka as well. We are not looking at making profits from KSRTC. We are only ensuring it doesn't make losses. The government is reimbursing the cost of tickets under the Shakthi scheme, he said.

NIA Charges Two Bangladeshi Nationals for Human Trafficking in India

NIA Charges Two Bangladeshi Nationals for Human Trafficking in India The NIA on Saturday charge-sheeted two Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly crossing into India illegally 10 years ago and pushing people from their country into forced labour through an organised racket. The probe of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the case has revealed that the accused -- Muhammed Sahajalal Haldar and Muhammed Idris alias Erdish Khan -- had crossed into India through Benapole on the India-Bangladesh border and had initially worked as waste segregators, according to a statement. Benapole is a town in Bangladesh's Jessore district. Later, they first rented land at Seegehalli and then at Margondanahalli in Karnataka, and started their own waste segregation units by constructing godowns and temporary sheds, the NIA said in its statement. They used to employ trafficked Bangladeshi nationals and force them into hard labour on meagre wages under the threat of arrest by the Indian police, it said. As part of an elaborate human trafficking network, Bangladeshi nationals were brought to India through the India-Bangladesh border on the pretext of secure jobs with valid Indian identity documents, according to the findings of the probe. ''Further strengthening its case against the human trafficking network, the NIA on Saturday charge-sheeted two men for illegally crossing into India 10 years ago and pushing Bangladeshi nationals into forced labour,'' the statement said. The charge-sheet was filed in a special NIA court in Bengaluru against Haldar and Khan, who were arrested in February with the help of the Internal Security Division of Karnataka, after being on the run for months, it said. The NIA had registered a case in this regard on November 7 last year after receiving credible inputs about certain Karnataka-based entities working with facilitators and traffickers in Assam and Tripura in India and Bangladesh to establish a transnational human trafficking network. Nationwide searches by the NIA had led to the arrest of several accused in the case and the agency had earlier charge-sheeted 12 Bangladeshi nationals. ''Further investigations are continuing to track other suspected traffickers, including 'dalals' and touts involved in the racket,'' the agency said.

Nadda rejects opposition claims, says BJP will retain North in LS polls and will be ahead of Congress in South

Nadda rejects opposition claims, says BJP will retain North in LS polls and will be ahead of Congress in South BJP president JP Nadda has hit out over south mein saaf and north mein haaf' jibe at the party by some opposition parties and asserted that the BJP will retain its Lok Sabha seats in north India while having a lead over Congress in the southern states. In an interview with ANI, Nadda expressed confidence of the BJP winning the Odisha assembly polls and also forming a government in Andhra Pradesh with its allies. He said the BJP will sweep Lok Sabha polls in Odisha and will achieve a landslide victory with its allies in parliamentary polls in Andhra Pradesh. The BJP is in alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP) in Andhra Pradesh. Nadda said the BJP will sweep the northern parts of the country in Lok Sabha polls as it did in the 2019 elections. We are keeping ourselves intact in the North and will retain (tally in) Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Jammu, Haryana, and Delhi, Nadda said. In Andhra Pradesh, we are going to form a government and in the parliamentary election, BJP and TDP are going to sweep. In Telangana, we are getting more than double (of the seats won last time), and in Tamil Nadu also we are getting a good start. We are also opening our account in Kerala and will maintain our seat share in Karnataka, Nadda. The BJP had done very well in Karnataka in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and won 25 of 28 seats. Asked if BJP will retain an equal number of seats, Nadda said they would get 25 and plus, minus one seat might happen. That's why in the South as well, we will have a lead over Congress in the tally. And in East as well we will maintain our tally Nadda said. Leaders of Congress and some other opposition parties have taken south mein saaf and north mein haaf' (wiped out in the south, half in the north) jibes at BJP, claiming that the party will not perform well in the Lok Sabha polls. Asked if Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is allergic to him and Home Minister Amit Shah, Nadda said she has sensed that Bengal is getting out of her hands. She is allergic to everyone, this time Mamataji has sensed that Bengal is getting out of her hands. We will win a good number of seats in Bengal. They (TMC) will be in a minority, we will have a majority, Nadda said. We will form government in Odisha and BJP will have a landslide victory in the parliamentary election, Nadda said in response to a question. Asked about BJD leader VK Pandian's remarks that BJP does not have a CM face against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Nadda said the party did not have a CM face in states such as Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and emerged victorious in assembly polls. We did not have in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and in Chhattisgarh, he said, adding that the party did not take long to decide its CM candidates after victory in assembly polls. On poll-related violence in West Bengal, Nadda said law and order is a state subject. We (the centre) can support them but Mamata Banerjee's intentions are not clear. Her intention is dubious. He slammed the West Bengal CM over the Sandeshkhali violence and accused her of being silent. She was silent on the case of Sheikh Shahjahan, the High Court had to give the inquiry to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Women were shouting and you even didn't bother, he said. Asked about the allegations of Mamata Banerjee that the Sandeshkhali incident was a conspiracy of the BJP, Nadda said, Dishonest administrator, dishonest politician. If I'm the CM and a case like this comes to me, I'll say that I'll investigate into this. I'll go into the details of it. Why was she quiet at first and later she blamed the BJP. She compromised with the nation for a vote bank. TMC is providing shelter to infiltrators and giving them ID cards and ration cards, making them voters, this is anti-national activitiy They also give protection to such people, Nadda added. BJP President further accused Mamata Banerjee of spreading misinformation regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act. She is spreading misinformation about CAA. She's doing anti-national things. CAA will not be given to someone who is coming from outside. Doesn't Mamata understand this, is she so illiterate? No. She understands everything. But she is trying to misguide the innocent people. Karnataka BJP chief Vijayendra demands CBI probe into obscene video case

Karnataka BJP chief Vijayendra demands CBI probe into obscene video case Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Saturday demanded to hand over the investigation into the alleged obscene video case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Speaking to ANI on Saturday, BY Vijayendra said, Many prominent names are being heard in connection with this case. Therefore I want to tell the state government that the victims should get justice and for that to happen it is not possible for the SIT but rather the case should be handed over to the CBI. This is what I'm requesting from the state government. Earlier in the day, HD Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) chief, urged to pursue all possible legal action against his grandson and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna in connection with the case. The former PM, however, alleged that the case against his son and Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna was orchestrated. HD Revanna was arrested on May 4 in connection with an alleged abduction case and was subsequently released on bail on May 14. HD Kumaraswamy has already spoken on behalf of our family and party regarding the allegations against Prajwal Revanna and HD Revanna. The government must pursue all possible legal avenues against Prajwal Revanna. However, it is evident that the cases against HD Revanna were orchestrated to target him, Deve Gowda told reporters on Saturday. Despite refraining from naming specific individuals, Deve Gowda echoed Kumaraswamy's criticism of the state government and Congress leader DK Shivakumar, hinting at broader involvement in the scandal. Many individuals are implicated in this case. It is essential that all those involved are held accountable, and justice is delivered to all the women who have been victimized, he said. Earlier on May 6, the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had urged the centre to help the Karnataka SIT team in its investigation by helping bring Prajwal Revanna to India from abroad. The Special Investigation Team constituted to probe the allegations of sexual assault against MP Prajwal Revanna will conduct an independent and impartial investigation in which the state government will not interfere even a single inch. The success of the SIT investigation is now entirely dependent on the cooperation of the Central Government. The central government should cooperate in bringing the accused Prajwal Revanna, who is said to be abroad, to India, CM Siddaramaiah said. HD Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna, are facing a probe by an SIT constituted by the Karnataka government over allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation following a complaint by a woman who worked in their household. Go to Pakistan and then give reservations...: Assam CM slams RJD chief Lalu Yadav

Go to Pakistan and then give reservations...: Assam CM slams RJD chief Lalu Yadav Opposing the idea of providing reservations to Muslims, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday hit out at RJD chief Lalu Yadav over his advocacy forcomplete reservation for Muslims and suggested Lalu Yadav to move to Pakistan and then give reservations there. Earlier on May 7, former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav came out in support of the Muslim quota, saying that they should get the reservation. Speaking to reporters, the former CM said, Muslims should get reservations (reservation toh milna chahiye Musalmano ko, pura'...). The 40 seats in Bihar are undergoing polls in all seven phases. In 2019, the BJP-led NDA swept the state by winning 39 out of 40 seats, while Congress won just one seat. RJD, a formidable force in the state, failed to open its account. The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), the opposition coalition in Bihar, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties, recently announced that the RJD, its largest constituent, will contest 26 out of the state's 40 Lok Sabha seats. As part of the NDA, BJP and JD(U) will contest on 17 and 16 seats, respectively. Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest five seats, and Jitan Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha will contest one seat each. The voting in Siwan will be held in the sixth phase of the elections on May 25. The counting of votes will be held on June 4. (ANI)

NIA Chargesheets 2 More in Transnational Human Trafficking Racket

New Delhi: Strengthening its case against human trafficking network, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday chargesheeted two men for illegally crossing into India 10 years ago and pushing Bangladesh nationals into forced labour. The NIA has filed a supplementary chargesheet against Muhammed Sahajalal Haldar and Muhammed Idris alias Erdish Khan, who were arrested in February this year with the help of the Internal Security Division of Karnataka after being on the run for months. The NIA had registered the case RC-01/2023/NIA/DLI on November 7, 2023, after receiving credible inputs about certain Karnataka-based entities working with facilitators and traffickers in Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh to establish a transnational human trafficking network. Nationwide searches by NIA had led to the arrest of several accused in the case and the agency had earlier chargesheeted 12 Bangladeshi nationals under IPC, Foreigners Act and Passport (Entry into India) Act. NIA investigations have revealed that Haldar and Idris, who had crossed into India through Benapole at the Indo-Bangladesh border, initially worked as waste segregators. They later rented land at Seegehalli and Margondanahalli respectively in Karnataka, and started their own waste segregation units by constructing godowns and temporary sheds. They used to employ trafficked Bangladesh nationals and force them into hard labour on meager wages under threat of arrest by the Indian police. As part of the elaborate human trafficking network, Bangladeshi nationals were being smuggled into India through the Indo-Bangladesh border on the false promise of secure jobs with valid Indian identity documents, as per NIA investigations. Further investigations are continuing to track other suspected traffickers, including dalals and touts, involved in the racket.
