PM Modi to hoist Dharam Dhwaja as Ayodhya Ram temple construction reaches completion
Lucknow: Preparations for the Dhwajaarohan (flag-hoisting) ceremony on the spire of the Ram temple have reached their final stage, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to return to Ayodhya after 22 months. The event marks the formal completion of the temples construction, nearly two years after the consecration of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum, which the PM presided over on 22 January 2024. The PM will hoist the saffron flag, the Dharam Dhwaja , atop the temple spire on Tuesday. The right-angled triangular flag, measuring 11 feet in height and 22 feet in length, bears the image of a radiant Sun symbolising the brilliance and valour of Lord Rama, with an Om inscribed on it along with the image of a Kovidara tree. The temple trust said the sacred saffron flag would convey a message of dignity, unity and cultural continuity, embodying the ideals of Ram Rajya. The flag will rise atop a shikhar (spire) constructed in the traditional North Indian Nagara architectural style, while the surrounding 800-metre Parkota, a circumambulatory enclosure built around the temple, has been designed in the South Indian architectural tradition, showcasing architectural diversity. During his stay in Ayodhya, the PM is expected to visit other temples dedicated to Maharshi Vashishtha, Maharshi Vishwamitra, Maharshi Agastya, Maharshi Valmiki, Devi Ahilya, Nishadraj Guha and Mata Shabari, constructed on the premises of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi after the consecration. He will also visit the Sheshavtar Mandir. The PM will additionally visit Mata Annapurna Mandir and perform darshan and pooja at Ram Darbar Garbha Grah, followed by darshan at Ram Lalla Garbha Grah. According to temple trust sources, at around noon the PM will ceremonially hoist the saffron flag on the shikhar of the temple, after which he is likely to address the gathering. As per the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the flag-hoisting event falls on the auspicious Panchami date of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha, coinciding with the Abhijit Muhurat of Shri Ram and Goddess Sitas Vivah Panchami (wedding date), a day symbolising divine union. On the eve of the ceremony, Ayodhya wore a festive look as dignitaries and devotees began arriving to witness the event. The ceremonial flag to be raised on the temple spire has already reached the birthplace site. Security around the Ram Janmabhoomi complex and adjoining areas has been heightened. Surveillance is being carried out by helicopter, and ATS commandos have cordoned off the temple premises. Personnel from the SPG, CRPF and PAC have also been deployed, forming a five-layer security arrangement. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat arrived in Ayodhya on Monday. While the CM reviewed the preparations for the grand ceremony, which is likely to be attended by around 6,000 guests, the RSS chief is among the dignitaries invited for the occasion. Sources said more than a hundred major donors who contributed over Rs 2 crore towards the construction of the Ram Mandir have been invited. However, the Shankaracharyas have not been invited. The temple trust has appealed to the public not to visit Ayodhya for Ram Lallas darshan on 25 November. Entry of all heavy vehicles such as trucks and tractors was stopped from entering Ayodhya from 11 pm on 23 November, a restriction that will remain in place until midnight on 26 November. However, the movement of residents has allegedly been hampered due to the unprecedented security arrangements, especially following the recent Delhi terror blast. Routes through which the PMs cavalcade will move have been sensitised and closed to locals. To retain the festivity and fervour during the PMs movement from Saket Degree College to the Ram temple, the local administration has roped in 5,000 women to give musical performances and shower petals on the convoy. Meanwhile, all streets and by-lanes leading to Ram Path have been barricaded and guarded, and no pedestrian movement will be allowed towards the temple, as was the case earlier.

Attempt to build mosque in name of Babur will meet Ayodhya-like fate: Uma Bharti
Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti issued a strong warning regarding the construction of mosques. She stated that any mosque built in the name of Mughal emperor Babur will meet the same fate as the structure in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992. Bharti urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take action against such proposals.
Rebel TMC MLA vows to lay foundation stone for Babri Masjid in West Bengal's Murshidabad
KOLKATA: Rebel Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir is all set to lay the foundation stone for a Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad district, a political hotbed with around 70% minority vote share in West Bengal, on December 6, the 33rd anniversary of the demolition of the historic mosque in Ayodhya in 1992. The move has prompted the BJP to allege that it is a sinister move of the ruling party in the state for electoral benefit ahead of the assembly elections scheduled in AprilMay next year. Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, along with her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, the partys national general secretary, is scheduled to lead a peace march in Kolkata on the same day. Humayun, MLA from Bharatpur constituency in Murshidabad, will head the foundation stone ceremony for the project, estimated at around Rs 125 crore, on 20 bighas of land in Beldanga. The project, which includes a Babri Masjid, a college, a hospital and a six-storied rest house, will come up on 20 bighas of land. I have already prepared invitation letters and will distribute them among dignitaries and guests, including political leaders from my own district, Murshidabad, only, to attend the programme on December 6, the MLA told the TNIE on Sunday. I dont need any approval from my party leadership for the initiative. I wont invite my party supremo or other leaders because they will be busy with another programme the same day in Kolkata. About a year ago, I announced the project to set up a Babri Masjid, and my party leadership is well aware of it. To avoid attending the programme, they have decided to participate in a peace march in the city, Humayun said. He added that the Muslim community across the country had assured him of financial support for the project, initiated by a trust the West Bengal Islamic Foundation of India where he serves as general secretary. Around 10% non-Muslims, mainly Hindus, will be part of the trust, he said. Humayuns move to set up the mosque has triggered a major political row in Bengal. Political analyst Prof Biswanath Chakraborty said, Murshidabad district has 70% Muslims, and Humayun Kabir knows their socio-economic problems. To mobilise vote banks ahead of the assembly polls, he has decided to set up the masjid in his home district. It is too early to comment on its political impact in the coming months until the project progresses and he makes any political decision. Rahul Sinha, veteran BJP leader and former state party president, said, He has been using such tactics to create pressure politics because he has been sidelined in the party for long. We are conveying messages to the general Muslim community, asking them to know their MLA like Humayun Kabir, who has been doing politics with mosques. TMC leaders, especially MLA Humayun Kabir, are known for the politics of hatred. He does politics purely for appeasement. He is intentionally creating communal tension in Bengal, Sinha added. The Bengal Imam Association (BIA) has also strongly opposed Humayuns move. He should clarify his political stand first. What was he doing when he was in the BJP and supported the partys communal agendas? While staying with the saffron camp, he was silent about the mosque. Now he is doing politics with Muslims for his personal gain, said Md Yahiya, chairman of the BIA. The chief minister, who is also the Trinamool Congress supremo, should immediately take action against him and stop the project. What is the necessity of setting up a mosque 33 years after the Babri Masjid demolition? he added. The Trinamool Congress has earlier suspended Humayun on several occasions for anti-party activities, particularly when he joined the BJP in 2019 for about two years. He later returned to the ruling party and was elected MLA from Bharatpur in the 2021 assembly polls.

Positive changes made to history textbooks, Akbar and Tipu no longer called great': RSS leader
NAGPUR: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Sunil Ambekar has said that many positive changes have been introduced in history textbooks, and epithet 'the great' is no longer used to describe Mughal emperor Akbar or Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan. Although the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has brought these changes, obody has been removed from these textbooks as the new generation should know their cruel deeds. Ambekar addressed a gathering at the Orange City Literature festival organised by SGR Knowledge Foundation here on Friday. India has vast and rich resources of ancient knowledge, which if we learn and understand can help us a lot in our lives. This rich knowledge can be given to the world as well, but for that we also need to focus on that knowledge, the Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh of the RSS said. Now, history textbooks are changing and I am very happy that NCERT took a very good initiative and made changes in the books of 11 classes out of the textbooks of 15 classes. The changes in the books of Classes 9, 10 and 12 will be introduced next year, he said. I could see that many good changes have been brought in the history books, and more could be done in the future. But now, they (history textbooks) do not have 'Akbar the Great' nor do they have 'Tipu Sultan the Great'. Many changes have been brought, although nobody has been removed from these books as the new generation should know their cruel deeds and should also know because of whom we were victimised and from whom we should be free, he said. Some people say this should not be said but this cannot happen and it should be told. Ambekar also talked about Nalanda University and said that people think that only Ved Puran, Ramayana and Mahabharata were taught there. But if you go through the syllabus of Nalanda University, you will get to know what was taught there. It is a very old university, he said. Along with literature, 76 types of skill-based courses were also taught in Nalanda University, which were taught to all and these skills included farming, urban planning, make-up, secret agent, political governance, mechanisation and several others, Ambekar said. According to the RSS leader, India is prospering and we should think about what our future society should be like. People across the world kept compromising on their civilization and culture in the process of development, and surrendered to the markets and new technologies. Although it brought facilities, it came at the cost of personal and family life, our values and relations, he added. Talking about Ram temple in Ayodhya, he said some people think why RSS put all its strength for the construction of this temple. I would say it was not just about building the temple...It was built, but we should think about our relation with Lord Ram along with the temple. What is our relationship with the culture of Lord Ram, what is the meaning of the culture of Ram and what relationship does it have with the culture of our country and our future life. It was a campaign to make people understand all this and it was done very nicely and I think now the youth are keeping self respect about the dharma, he said. Ambekar praised the country's youth, saying the new generation is very able and has all the exposure. They are very patriotic and patriotism is a cool thing for them, he said.

JeM planning Delhi-like blast in J&K: Intelligence sources
NEW DELHI: Latest intelligence inputs have suggested that Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) is planning a recent Delhi and 2019-Pulwama-like high-intensity Vehicle-Bound IED (VB-IED) blast in Kashmir Valley, sources said on Tuesday. In the view of the alert, an advisory has been sent to the J&K police and the civil administration to keep high vigil across the Union Territory, as JeM operatives, who have acquired the skill of exploding bombs in a moving car, which they used in the recent Delhis Red Fort blast and also during Pulwama terror attack against a CFPF convoy in 2019. Sharing details of a highly classified intelligence input, which has been sent to all the security formations in Jammu & Kashmir, sources said that the JeM is suspected of planning another VB-IED blast in the UT, particularly in South Kashmir. They said that the latest input is in continuity with earlier alerts, which had suggested that elements from across the western borders with active support from Pakistans ISI have been preparing coordinated attacks in Delhi, Jammu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradeshs Ayodhya, and Gujarat. Security apparatus are of the view that the prevailing situation demanded immediate and intense vigilance, particularly with respect to abandoned or unfamiliar vehicles, which have been repeatedly linked to the attack methodology witnessed in the recent blast. Personnel deployed at Nakas (checkpoints) and Road Opening Parties (ROPs) have been instructed to treat such vehicles with maximum suspicion, the sources said, adding that instructions have been passed on to seniors to brief their personnel to keep maximum vigil, particularly with regard to abandoned items or suspicious vehicles in their respective jurisdictions. They said that the leadership in the J&K security architecture has also been asked to ensure increased vigil during the movement of forces in the UT to avoid any Pulwama-like incident. A VB-IED-type blast is basically executed using a moving vehicle, and Kashmir had seen such an incident in the past, when in 2019 terrorists hit an explosive-laden Maruti EECO car into a bus carrying CRPF personnel in a convoy in Pulwama, killing 40 jawans. In Delhi too, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is investigating the Red Fort Blast case, has termed it a VB-IED attack. Notably, the heightened alert follows a major breakthrough by the NIA in its probe into the Delhi blast, which killed 13 people and injured several. In a detailed press release issued on November 16, the NIA confirmed that the explosion was triggered using a vehicle-bound IED and announced the arrest of Amir Rashid Ali, a resident of Samboora, Pampore (J&K), who allegedly conspired with the suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi. Senior security officials confirmed that the NIAs revelation that the Red Fort blast was a VB-IED-type attack has further reinforced our ongoing threat profile, especially the intelligence pointing to JeMs plans for a similar strike in in Kashmir and other parts of the country.

The artist behind Ayodhya Ram Temple's hall on being a keeper of culture
How many of you have visited the new Ayodhya temple? The ongoing construction, featuring intricate depictions of the Ramayana in its Shri Ram Darbar Hall, isnt just about architecture. Its about physically manifesting the very heart of Indian cultural identity: bhakti (devotion). I recently had the chance to catch the perspective of artist Vasudeo Kamath, known for his deep involvement, composing 85 episodes for the Darbar Hall. His approach highlights how genuine artistic interpretation can offer insights far beyond initial impressions. Vasudeo is a contemporary visual artist who engages with texts and immerses himself in this wisdom, bringing out evocative depictions of mythological themes from his own personal revelations. One of his self-portraits is very popular because it aligns with the profound account of Hanuman tearing his chest to reveal the image of Rama within. In another work, he shows Hanuman ushering a toddler into the textual tradition. At first glance, while the sentiment of bhakti is obvious, a deeper appreciation of the skill and thought involved reveals the artists true intent. When you pause and look closer, you might ask: Did he use Hanuman merely as a symbol of devotion, or did he want to catch the eye of Hanumans countless followers? Was he searching for a glimpse of the divine through the idea of Rama, or is he suggesting that we, too, can find Rama as he did? Vasudeo Kamath has contributed 85 episodes of Ramayana for the Shri Ram Darbar Hall in the new Ayodhya temple On his personal journey, Vasudeo shared, I established myself as an artist initially through portraits and landscape works. Realism came naturally to me; I was blessed with that talent. However, the stories my grandmother told me during my childhood had a profound impact. In fact, it is due to the insights from the story of the little squirrel the one that contributed to building the sethu (bridge) to Lanka that I began to use a small squirrel as a signature in many of my Ramayana works. By incorporating this motif, Vasudeo subtly suggests that his artistic efforts, however grand they may appear, are ultimately his humble offering, acting as a bridge between text and tradition. On whether he uses mythology to convey social norms, he shared a powerful response, My first work in the Ramayana began with an imagery of a self-portrait painting the subject through the unconditional love and loyalty of Hanuman for Sri Rama. I definitely enjoy reinterpreting the stories, presenting them with a personal touch, as they have offered me life lessons. Having said that, in some of my other works, I also want to initiate a conversation on contemporary social problems. My paintings of Janaka finding Sita from the dirt have a very strong feminine undertone. Through the portrayal of Ahalya, I wanted to initiate a discourse on social right and wrong. Curse and Redemption A deeper seeing of his work will highlight a resplendent Janaka gently handling Sita with an act of unconditional love and acceptance; the artist deftly contrasts it with the harsh realities faced by women in society. This reinterpretation does not alter the original story but rather brings its underlying values of compassion and respect to the forefront, making them relevant to modern discussions of gender equality. Similarly, his depiction of Sri Rama offering flowers to the stone Ahalya initiates a dialogue on justice and redemption. This delicate change in how it is portrayed immediately prompts the onlooker to think differently and invites them to re-engage. Overall, what is truly commendable about Vasudeo is that he achieves all this while maintaining respect for the original creator of the text, which is a testament to his skill and his informed understanding of the tradition. He is neither appropriating nor distorting the narratives but rather drawing out their inherent potential for social commentary and moral reflection. Soil and substance The threat of distorted interpretations While there are many visual artists like Vasudeo from traditional and contemporary disciplines who demonstrate an informed and respectful approach to re-interpreting Indian epics and mythology, there are also fringe segments within academia and popular culture who are dramatically contrasting in their approach. No doubt, different interpretations and perspectives are a natural part of academic rigour. Here is where it is best advisable for academics not initiated in oral traditions to tread carefully and be mindful such that the sentiment and intent of the original author is retained while reinterpreting. After all, bhakti is a profound, complex sentiment that serves as the underlying current binding Indias civilisational pillars the theories of justice, goodness, and beauty, including liberation. It manifests sometimes as pure devotion, sometimes as love, a combination of dedication and discipline, and many times as an unwavering faith. The layering of this sentiment as a guiding force for socio-politics, socio-economics, socio-cultural, and socio-religious life is also why it can deliver both divine justice and poetic justice so effortlessly. It is this core aspect of the sentiment that is sadly missed or intentionally overlooked by interpretations that prioritise an agenda over authentic engagement. Bhakti, gatekeeper of oral traditions Ultimately, appreciating the depth and meaning of bhakti through temple art and the work of artists like Vasudeo Kamath reveals a multifaceted sentiment that is deeply personal yet universally resonant. It is a sentiment that binds individuals to their cultural heritage, inspires ethical reflection, and finds expression in creative endeavours. The careful and authentic absorption of this sentiment, if not through traditional texts, at least from Indic art, serves as a vital means of keeping the civilisational undercurrent alive, ensuring that the wisdom and beauty of these ancient stories continue to inform and enrich contemporary life.

Ramayana from Sitas perspective gets epic Malayalam retelling
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ever heard of a lyrical retelling of Ramayana from Goddess Sitas perspective? A Sita, who even while bemoaning her fate as an orphan and a castaway, chose to walk into Mother Earths bosom, rather than return to take her rightful place as the Queen of Ayodhya. Chandrabati Ramayana, a 16th century work by Bengals first woman poet Chandrabati is one of the first versions of the epic that retells it from Sitas point of view. And now, it is available in Malayalam, as Chandrabati Ramayanam, thanks to writer Geethanjali Krishnan, who learnt Bengali and translated the work directly to Malayalam. In Geethanjalis own words, it took her almost three years, one to learn the language including the alphabets, and another two to translate. By 2024 end, I completed the work. Learning Bengali was not very difficult, as it shares similarities with Hindi and Malayalam. Bengali, Malayalam and Sanskrit have many Pali words, she said. In accordance with the erstwhile oral poetic traditions handed down generations and cutting across native tongues, Chandrabati Ramayana captures life through the female gaze, and reflects upon the trials and tribulations rural women were so accustomed to at the time. Chandrabatis take on Sita is in stark contrast with the widely-popular version. That this Ramayana hardly contains any reference to the battles waged in the course of Lord Rams life makes it unlike Valmikis rendition. I felt it needed to be retold in other languages, says Geethanjali Inspired by it, Geethanjali took it upon herself to translate Chandrabatis work into Malayalam. While many others have translated Bengali works to Malayalam, its the first direct translation of Chandrabati Ramayana to Malayalam. Being the first female Ramayanam, I felt it needed to be retold in other languages. Its one of the few such tales told from Sitas perspective. In many such tales, she is Ravanas daughter, she said. Geethanjalis translation has a foreword by translator Sunil Naliyath as well as elaborate notes by academic and writer, late Nabaneeta Deb Sen, and independent Bangla filmaker N Rashed Chowdhury. Poet K Jayakumar released the book in the state capital last week.
Jaish terror module was planning blasts in six cities on Babri demolition anniversary, reveals probe
LUCKNOW: The probe agencies investigating the Delhi blast and its suspected roots in UP have uncovered a plot in which the Jaish-e-Mohammad-linked terror module, allegedly comprising Dr Shaheen Ansari, Dr Parvez Ansari and others, was planning coordinated explosions in six cities on December 6, the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992. According to top intelligence sources, the disclosure was made by Dr Shaheen Saeed, her brother Dr Parvez, and Dr Muzzamil, during their interrogation. The three are among those arrested in connection with the November 10 Red Fort blast. They were allegedly raising funds and coordinating logistics for the planned attacks. Dr Shaheen divulged crucial inputs about the groups financial network and operational hierarchy during her grilling, said sources. Other arrested suspects Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie, Molvi Irfan Ahmad, Arif Nisar Dar, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, Maqsood Ahmad, and Zameer Ahmad Ahanger are also being interrogated to extract more information about the modules operations. Red Fort blast: Two more doctors picked up in UP by probe agencies, taken to Delhi for questioning Preliminary findings pointed towards a five-phase plan drawn by the group. The first phase involved the formation of the module linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. The second focused on procuring raw materials and ammunition from Nuh and Gurugram (Haryana) to assemble improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The third covered manufacturing IEDs and conducting reconnaissance of potential targets. The fourth phase involved the distribution of assembled bombs among module members and the fifth phase was to execute synchronised explosions across all the locations. Officials said the initial plan was to strike in August 2025, but due to logistical delays, the date was shifted to December 6. Investigators are also examining whether the module planned a parallel operation in Ayodhya on November 25 during the religious flag (dharam dhwaj) hoisting at the temples spire in the presence of the Prime Minister and other dignitaries. While the names of the six cities are not clear, police forces at prominent locations have been put on high alert with increased security, frisking, and area checks.
