For nearly seven decades, an institute in Nagpur, now the NDRF Academy, has been training first responders in essential survival skills. Established in 1957 by the Union home ministry, the academy provides specialized courses, including nuclear emergency response and explosive safety, to candidates nominated by state governments and Union Territories.
The Supreme Court has mandated the Maharashtra government and State Election Commission to conduct elections for all overdue local self-governing bodies within four months, ending prolonged delays. The apex court emphasized that timely elections are crucial for grassroots democracy, ordering polls for municipal corporations, councils, nagar panchayats, and zilla parishads where terms have expired.
