Rahul calls Modi vote chor, questions PMs silence on election fraud charge during Bihar visit
PATNA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modis silence over alleged vote theft in Maharashtra, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, saying the Prime Minister had failed to answer his questions on the issue. Responding to Modis remarks on the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls during his visit to Gaya in Bihar, Rahul alleged that the Prime Minister was deliberately silent on the contentious matter. The SIR is an attempt by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and the EC to steal your votes. They are trying their best to snatch your voting rights. The 'vote chor' came to Gayaji, but he did not say even a word on his government's attempt to steal votes with the help of the EC, Gandhi said during his Vote Adhikar Yatra in Bhagalpur. The truth is that the Prime Minister, along with the Election Commission of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party, are bent on destroying democracy and the Constitution, and snatching away the votes of the people, he said. Rahul accused Modi of seeking to dismantle the constitutional principle of one person, one vote. He cited the example of a Congress supporter whose name was deleted from the electoral rolls during the first phase of the revision exercise. With SIR, the Modi government, in collusion with the Election Commission of India, was disenfranchising people who are supporters of Congress or RJD, the Lok Sabha LoP said. Vote Chori is an attack on the Constitution of India. The INDIA bloc will not allow the BJP to steal voting rights of the people of Bihar, he added. Speaking at a rally in Bihar, Modi in an indirect reference to SIR said, There is one more threat -- that of infiltrators (ghuspaithiye) that our nation faces, which I also spoke about in my Independence Day speech. They cannot be allowed to partake of the resources of our country. I have, therefore, called for a demography mission. But the Congress and the RJD want to protect these infiltrators for the sake of their vote bank politics. The allusion was to one of the stated objectives of SIR being the removal of names of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar from the electoral rolls. The EC, which has ordered the exercise in Bihar ahead of assembly polls, has made it clear that SIR will be undertaken across the country in due course. However, the INDIA bloc has been alleging that the exercise in Bihar was aimed at helping the BJP-led NDA in assembly polls through wrongful deletion of names of voters. During a stopover near Nathnagar in Bhagalpur, Rahul introduced a former Agniveer, Amarnath Jaiswal, who had suffered a serious hand injury and lost a finger in the line of duty. Jaiswal was discharged from the Army within two years, without any of the benefits that a regular soldier would have received in such circumstances. Rahul said the Modi government had closed avenues for the youth, calling the Agniveer scheme ill-advised and pointing to Jaiswals plight as an example of how recruits were left without support after service, even in cases of disability. He also said the government had crippled small and medium businesses through demonetisation, compounding unemployment. On the sixth day of his Yatra, the march passed through Bhagalpur, where large crowds gathered, chanting 'Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhor' in reference to alleged electoral fraud in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

PATNA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hit out at the Opposition for opposing the three Constitution Amendment Bills introduced in the parliament. The bills aim for the removal of Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and ministers if they are arrested or kept in custody for serious criminal charges for 30 consecutive days. Modi was addressing a rally in Bihars Gaya Ji where he launched several development projects worth over Rs 13,000 crore. He also flagged off two new trains. We know why the Opposition leaders are scared of these laws? he said, in an oblique reference to several Opposition leaders being involved in corruption. He claimed that the Opposition leaders were criticising him and even abusing him for bringing the strict laws against corruption. He sought to know from the crowd gathered at the venue whether it was justified to run the government, issue orders and dispose of important files from the jail. The crowd answered in negative by waiving their hands. PM Modi said that action is initiated against a government employee if he was jailed for 50 hours. Then why this rule should not apply to PM, CM or ministers. If a government employee is imprisoned for 50 hours, then he is suspended automatically, be it a driver, a clerk or a peon. But a CM, a minister, or even a PM can enjoy staying in the government even from jail, he contended. He further said Some time ago, we saw how files were being signed from jail and how government orders were given from jail. If leaders have such an attitude, how can we fight corruption? The NDA government has brought a law against corruption, and the Prime Minister also comes under this purview, he remarked. NDA allies JD(U), TDP cagey on bills to remove arrested ministers While targeting Congress and RJD for indulging in corruption when they were in power both at the Centre and also in the state, Modi said that his government had faced not a single case of corruption but there was a long list of corruption during the 60-65 years rule of the Congress at the centre. What to speak about the corruption when RJD was in power, as every child was also aware of it, he remarked. He said that the fight against corruption would reach its logical conclusion only if nobody was kept out of its scope. Modi said that the demographic mission would be launched in bordering districts of Bihar as large-scale infiltration was happening there. He also cautioned people against the appeasement policy of Congress and RJD, claiming that they could go to any low for vote bank. He vowed to drive out infiltrators from Bihar and the country as well. He said if RJD-Congress comes to power again in Bihar, the state would be pushed to backwardness again. He hailed the chief minister Nitish Kumar for carrying out development in every sphere be it education, health and infrastructure. The double engine government has put the state on development path and it should continue, he added.

Women's ODI WC: DY Patil Stadium Replaces M. Chinnaswamy Stadium As One Of The Five Venues
The International Cricket Council: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday confirmed that Navi Mumbai will replace Bengaluru as one of the five venues for the upcoming ICC Womens ODI World Cup 2025 in a revised schedule for the showpiece event. The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host up to five fixtures comprising three league matches, a semifinal and potentially the final after a rejig was necessitated because of the unavailability of Bengalurus M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The development occurred after the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) failed to meet multiple BCCI deadlines for obtaining police approvals, following the stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL victory celebrations earlier this year. ICC confirmed that tournament dates remain the same September 30 to November 2 as do the other venues, which are the ACA Stadium (Guwahati), Holkar Stadium (Indore), ACA-VDCA Stadium (Visakhapatnam) and R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo, Sri Lanka). ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed satisfaction at the announcement of the new venue, which he felt was an ideal one for womens cricket. Results of last Lok Sabha polls fudged: Rahul Gandhi
PATNA: LoP in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the peoples strong voice against vote theft would spread like a tsunami across India. Speaking at a public meeting in Munger during the fifth day of his Voter Adhikar Yatra, he said he was convinced that the 2024 Lok Sabha polls were manipulated. Rahul intensified his attack on the BJP and the Election Commission, alleging that they were stealing votes to benefit a section of industrialists. Braving a drizzle, a large crowd gathered to hear him, along with RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, CPI-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, and other INDIA bloc leaders, as the yatra moved through Lakhisarai near Munger. Gandhi also alleged poll manipulation, citing the Maharashtra example. Our alliance won in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, and four months later, the BJP won in the assembly election. The only difference was that nearly one crore new people cast their votes and all these votes went to the BJP alliance. BJP won in all those places where these new voters cast their votes, he added.

Bihar CM Nitish sparks controversy after declining to wear traditional topi at madrasa event
PATNA: Bihar chief minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar on Thursday courted controversy after he declined to wear a 'topi' (a cap associated with Muslims) at a function in Patna marking the centenary of the Bihar Madarsa Education Board. When state minority welfare minister Mohammad Zama Khan tried to place the cap on Nitishs head, the chief minister took it from him and put it on Khan instead. A video of the exchange, showing Nitish diverting the cap and placing it back on his colleagues head, went viral on social media. Nitish and other dignitaries were present at the centenary function. In the video, widely shared online, Nitishs gesture appeared to surprise participants. #WATCH | Patna | Bihar CM Nitish Kumar attends the Bihar State Madarsa Education Board Century Program at Gyan Bhawan. pic.twitter.com/0VbQQc42CU ANI (@ANI) August 21, 2025 The chief minister, who has long cultivated a secular image, has ruled Bihar for two decades in alliance with the BJP, except for two stints when he partnered with the RJD and other allies as part of the grand alliance. Despite his BJP ties, Nitish has launched several welfare schemes for the minority community, including building boundary walls around graveyards, which helped him secure support from sections of Muslims. During his speech, Nitish drew a contrast with the earlier RJD regime, saying: No work was done for Muslim community before 2005. This is not the first time Nitish has drawn attention with such gestures. On earlier occasions, he has avoided someone garlanding him by taking the garland and putting it back on the person. In 2013, he said: To govern a country like India, you have to take everyone along; sometimes you will have to wear topi and sometimes tilak ( kabhi topi bhi pehenni padhegi, kabhi tilak bhi lagana padega ). Earlier in the day, a group of madarsa teachers protested outside the venue, alleging they had not received salaries for months. They accused the state government of ignoring the poor condition of madarsas across the state. Tension escalated after Nitishs address, as teachers waved pamphlets and demanded action on salaries and pending commitments. (Full video available on PTI Videos - https://t.co/n147TvrpG7 ) pic.twitter.com/rqswWwlTwm Press Trust of India (@PTI_News) August 21, 2025 We have always been promised to fulfil the demands. But nothing has happened on this front so far, said one visibly agitated teacher. He added: In 2011, Nitish Kumar promised to provide salaries to 2,459 madarsa. Only 1,659 madarsa remain, and for so many years we have been on the verge of starvation. We were told an announcement would be made today, but nothing happened. Other teachers at the event backed his claims. Nitish has previously worn traditional caps at minority community events but has lately avoided doing so. In March, at an Iftar party hosted at his residence, he was seen without the skull cap he usually wore at such occasions. Instead, he draped a scarf, or kafiya, around his shoulders.

Crowds swell as Rahul yatra raises pitch over Bihar SIR
PATNA: The ongoing 16-day, 3,000-km Yatra of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been drawing massive crowds in Bihar, with people lining the roads, waving flags, and cheering him. Hundreds of young people were seen clicking selfies, while Rahul himself appeared overwhelmed by the response. On Tuesday, the Yatra moved from Gaya towards Nawada and Sheikhpura. In Nawada, Rahul addressed a public meeting on the third day of the march before continuing his journey. The programme has been running behind schedule, as Rahul makes frequent unscheduled halts to meet people personally. Some, however, were left disappointed. I wanted to take a selfie with Rahul Gandhi, but could not because of the rush. I dont know if Ill ever get the chance again, said Sangeeta Kumari, 21, a student from Nawada. Her cousin Raj Kishore, a 24-year-old UPSC aspirant, was luckier. I jostled with Congress workers to get close. The security was tight, but I managed to take a photo with him, he said. Both Nawada and Sheikhpura were decorated with the flags of the INDIA bloc partners in a show of solidarity. Rahul was accompanied by RJDs Tejashwi Yadav, CPI-MLs Dipankar Bhattacharya, and VIP leader Mukesh Sahani. Women in large numbers turned up near the welcome arches. Traders and farmers travelled from far-off areas to see him. It feels like a dream come true, said Pappu Kumar, 38, a small trader from Barbigha. Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, Bhattacharya, and Sahani were accorded a warm welcome by district unit workers of the Opposition alliance. I have heard about Rahul Gandhi, but I never got a chance to meet him. He is raising the issue of manipulation of votes by the BJP in the upcoming election, remarked Ganesh Ram, a resident of Barbigha. Dipankar Bhattacharya told reporters that the Yatra has raised hopes among people. It is not just about elections, but about change in governance, he said. During a stopover, Rahul invited a local youth, Subodh Kumar, to share his grievance. Kumar alleged that his name was deleted from the voters list despite his having voted last year. Rahul accused the BJP of stealing votes in partnership with the Election Commission. We will not let them steal a single vote from Bihar, he told the cheering crowd.
