Amaravati will be completed in three years: CM Chandrababu Naidu

VIJAYAWADA: Describing the day, on which, Prime Minister Narendra Modi relaunched the works of Amaravati Capital City as a great day, and will be scripted in the history of Andhra Pradesh for ever, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asserted that Amaravati will reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people. Addressing a public meeting, along with the Prime Minister, at Velagapudi on Friday, Naidu exuded confidence that his government with the support of the Centre will complete the works of Amaravati within three years, and will be inaugurated by Modi. Now, we are restarting the Amaravati works, and the capital will be built in such a way that every citizen can proudly claim that Amaravati is my capital, Naidu said. Recalling that Modi used to look pleasant during the meetings with him in the past, Naidu said the PM appeared deeply anguished when he went to invite him for relaunching the works of Amaravati recently because of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Maintaining that a strong India has emerged under the able leadership of Modi, he said the country will also grew as a very strong economic force. Mentioning that under the strong leadership of Modi the world is witnessing the rise of new India, Naidu said when Modi became the Prime Minister for the first time in 2014, the country was ranked 10th in the world economy, and Modi has taken the country from 10th to fifth place in his 11-year rule, he highlighted. According to an IMF report, India is expected to surpass Japan, and reach the fourth place this year itself, and surpass Germany to reach the third place by 2027, and will be in first or second place by 2047, Naidu said. The country today has the right person at the right time in the right place and he is Prime Minister Modi, he remarked. With Modis model of welfare, development and empowerment a new India is emerging. Whatever decision Modi takes, it will have the idea of Nation First, he lauded. He felt that Amaravai is not just a city but the sentiment of five crore people which is the reflection of self-respect, self-confidence, hopes and aspirations of the people. In an unprecedented way and creating a world record, 29,000 farmers have given 34,000 acres for the capital, Naidu mentioned, and said when the construction of an excellent capital city was planned, the government that succeeded totally destroyed it, he regretted. The farmers, farm workers and women had waged an unyielding battle against the repression of that government, he said, and felt that the judiciary had saved Amaravati with the legal battles that followed. Making it clear that Amaravati will be a blue and green city, he said Modi has made several suggestions for building the capital, and all those will be implemented.

VIJAYAWADA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, rekindling the long-pending dream of Andhra Pradeshs greenfield capital, Amaravati, on Friday at Uddandarayunipalem, where he had laid its foundation stone nine years ago, described it as a land where tradition and progress intertwine. Addressing a massive gathering, Modi said, I dont see just a city, but a dream taking shape. A new Amaravati, a new Andhra. He highlighted the publics enthusiasm, noting Amaravatis Buddhist legacy of peace and its potential as a powerhouse for Vikasit Bharat. He pledged central support for building the necessary infrastructure. Praising Chief Minister N. He assured that the capital infrastructure, including the High Court, Assembly, Secretariat, and Raj Bhavan, would be built on priority. Modi highlighted Indias infrastructure strides over the past decade, positioning the country among the fastest-developing nations. Andhra has significantly benefited, with thousands of crores allocated to railway and road projects, enhancing both inter-district and interstate connectivity. These developments, he said, will enable farmers to reach markets faster, boost industries, and promote tourismsuch as easier access to the Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirupati via the Renigunta-Naidupeta highway. He noted that Andhras railway infrastructure has transformed, with the states railway budget increasing from under Rs 900 crore (20092014) to Rs 9,000 crore today. This has enabled 100% electrification, the operation of eight Vande Bharat trains, and the introduction of modern Amrit Bharat trains. Over 750 railway bridges and underpasses have been constructed, and more than 70 stations are being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Scheme. Emphasising the economic multiplier effect of infrastructure, Modi said it increases demand for cement, steel, and transport, and creates thousands of jobs for Andhras youth. AP health minister proposes Centre for AYUSH integration with allopathy through hybrid hospitals

VIJAYAWADA: Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav on Thursday called on State governments to scale up efforts to fully leverage opportunities in the AYUSH sector, which includes Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy. Speaking at a roundtable organised by the Ministry of AYUSH in Lonavala, the Minister stressed the growing demand for traditional healthcare systems, underscoring the sectors expansion since 2014. Satya Kumar Yadav credited Prime Minister Narendra Modis leadership for mainstreaming traditional Indian medicine. He proposed integrating AYUSH with allopathic medicine through hybrid hospitals to enhance healthcare delivery. Focusing on AP, he criticised the previous YSRCP administration for neglecting the AYUSH sector. He revealed that due to administrative apathy, the State received only Rs 37 crore in Central funding during that period. Of this, minimal funds were spent in the first two years, with zero expenditure in the last three, resulting in acute staff shortage and unfilled posts. In contrast, the Minister highlighted the progress made under the coalition government, which secured Rs 87 crore Central assistance for AYUSH in 202425. A fresh proposal for Rs 150 crore has also been submitted for the 202526 annual plan. He reaffirmed the governments commitment to expanding AYUSH services, filling vacancies, and improving public access to traditional healthcare. Furthermore, Satya Kumar Yadav also outlined plans to boost medical tourism in Andhra Pradesh by promoting integrated hospitals, drawing lessons from Keralas successful model.

Dont deceive people of AP again: Sharmila to PM Modi

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, presenting him with a symbolic pot of Amaravati soil as a reminder of his unfulfilled promises made during the foundation-laying ceremony of the State capital in 2015. In a strongly worded post on X, Sharmila questioned whether Modis visit on May 2 to initiate Amaravatis reconstruction would finally deliver on the decade-old commitment or merely repeat past disappointments. Accusing the Centre of betraying the AP people, Sharmila said, Ten years ago, you brought soil and dashed our hopes. You poured water on our aspirations, and left. She demanded that Modi swear on the Amaravati soil not to deceive AP again, emphasising the need for concrete action over symbolic gestures. She called for a written commitment from the PM to build a capital surpassing Delhi, alongside a clear roadmap for fulfilling the bifurcation promises. Highlighting the financial burden on the State, Sharmila insisted that the Centre, responsible for the capital construction under the bifurcation act, allocate `1.5 lakh crore over the next three years.

VIJAYAWADA: Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday welcomed the Centres decision to conduct a nationwide caste-based census, emphasising Andhra Pradeshs trailblazing role in this initiative. In a post on X, Jagan noted that AP had taken the lead by passing a resolution for a caste census in November 2021, and conducted the countrys first enumeration of Backward Classes in January 2024 through village and ward secretariats. The caste-based census will pave the way for targeted welfare measures, ensuring economic and social development of backward and marginalised communities. This is a crucial step towards achieving real social justice, and inclusive growth, he added. Naidu conspiring to seize control of urban bodies Jagan accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of orchestrating a plan to seize control of civic bodies where the TDP lacks majority. Speaking to YSRCP local body representatives, he alleged that Naidus governance is marked by nepotism and coercion. He cited Naidus tactics in Kuppam, where the YSRCP won 16 of 25 wards, while the TDP secured only six. SCs will lose their status after converting to Christianity: Andhra High Court

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has ruled that individuals belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) lose their SC status immediately upon converting to Christianity, thereby forfeiting protections under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The verdict, delivered by Justice N Harinath, came in response to a case involving Pastor Chintada Anand from Kothapalem, Guntur district, who had filed a complaint under the SC/ST Act. In January 2021, Anand, a pastor for over a decade, lodged a complaint with the Chandolu police, alleging that Akkala Ramireddy and others had abused him based on his caste. The police registered a case under the SC/ST Act. However, Ramireddy and others challenged the case in the High Court, seeking its dismissal. The petitioners counsel, Phani Dutt, argued that Anand, having converted to Christianity and served as a pastor for ten years, no longer qualified as an SC member under the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950. The order states that SC individuals who adopt a religion other than Hinduism lose their SC status. Anands counsel, Eerla Satish Kumar, countered that Anand held a valid SC Hindu caste certificate, asserting his eligibility for protections under the Act. However, Justice Harinath clarified that conversion to Christianity, where caste distinctions do not exist, nullifies SC status regardless of any existing caste certificate. The court noted that the SC/ST Act was enacted to protect SC and ST communities from discrimination and atrocities, but its provisions do not apply to those who have converted to other religions. The court found that Anand had misused the SC/ST Act by filing a false complaint. Witnesses confirmed his decade-long role as a pastor, and the court criticized the police for registering the case without verifying his status. Justice Harinath quashed the case against Ramireddy and others, stating that Anands complaint lacked legal standing. The court noted that the validity of Anands caste certificate would be subject to scrutiny by authorities, but its existence did not entitle him to protections under the SC/ST Act post-conversion.

Construction of capital city is nothing but restoration of APs pride, says CM Naidu

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has urged the full strength of the TDP, JSP, and BJP cadres to actively participate in the grand relaunch of Amaravatis capital development works, to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 2. In a teleconference held on Wednesday with MPs, MLAs, senior party leaders, and booth-level workers, Naidu described the occasion as a historic moment in Andhra Pradeshs development journey. This is not just about Amaravati, it is about restoring pride, growth, and governance to our State, he said. PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for projects worth Rs 49,040 crore in Amaravati and an additional Rs 57,962 crore for national-level works linked to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Indian Railways, Naidu announced. Attributing the NDAs 93% success rate in the elections to the publics faith in its promises, Naidu said the government, despite financial constraints, has delivered on welfare and development initiatives over the last 10 months. He also reaffirmed that the Polavaram project will be completed by 2027 and highlighted major investments, including TCS in Visakhapatnam and Rs 5,000 crore by LG at Sri City. The Chief Minister said AP is now attracting record-high investments and has launched the Swarnandhra Vision 2047, aimed at decentralised, inclusive development. He refuted allegations of land being undervalued in Visakhapatnam, terming them part of a false narrative propagated by the previous YSRCP government. They looted the State through wine, mine, sand, and land, he remarked. Naidu emphasised the significance of the farmers land pooling for Amaravati, calling it a world record in public-private cooperation. The previous YSRCP regimes three-capital proposal was a betrayal, he said. Our struggle and the peoples resilience have ensured Amaravatis revival. It will be built with the pride and ambition of the people, like Hyderabad, Chennai or Bengaluru. He reiterated Amaravatis model as a self-sustained capital, assuring that all core infrastructure will be in place within three years. The Chief Minister also announced two flagship welfare schemes set to launch next month -- Annadata Sukhibhava, the financial aid to farmers and Talliki Vandanam, Rs 15,000 annual support to mothers of school-going children. Naidu stressed that party activists were the backbone of governance and promised due recognition through nominated posts. He urged leaders not to act against grassroots sentiments and called for a united NDA front across all platforms. On the recent Simhachalam temple tragedy where seven devotees died in a wall collapse, Naidu expressed deep sorrow. He said he refrained from visiting the site to avoid inconveniencing pilgrims, trusting local leaders to oversee relief efforts. I have been monitoring the situation since morning, he said, adding that Ministers have visited victims families and assured government support. Finally, he called for a grand Mahanadu convention in Kadapa, stating, The NDA must win every future election to secure the States destiny. Capital Amaravati: Restart of works, restoring faith

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Amaravati on May 2 , hopes are high across the state. Modi will lay the foundation stone for Rs 64,000 crore worth of CRDA-approved works. If you argue in Telugu, we wont be able to stop you: AP HC's witty remark to YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu

VIJAYAWADA: Appearing as a lawyer, YSRCP senior leader Ambati Rambabu sparked amusement in the High Court while making his case during a hearing on Wednesday. While informing the court about the alleged bias of police in registering cases regarding offensive comments against him and his family members in English, the former minister sought the judges permission to switch to Telugu. In response, Justice Tallapragada Mallikarjuna Rao quipped, If we allow you to argue in Telugu, we wont be able to stop you, asking him to continue in English. Ambati informed the court that police registered only four cases against five complaints. He argued that police are obligated to register cases upon receiving complaints. However, government counsel Jayanthi clarified that cases are registered after preliminary inquiries, noting Ambati was not the victim in the fifth complaint. The court directed police to file a counter and adjourned the hearing to June 18, advising the former minister to present relevant arguments to make his case. HCs no to stay TTD tender The High Court declined to stay a tender notification issued by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Central Drug Store for medical supplies to its hospitals. The HC permitted the TTD to proceed with the tender process, however, clarified that finalisation would depend on its verdict. Furthermore, the HC directed the TTD to submit a detailed counter and adjourned the hearing to June. The case stems from a PIL filed by K Balaramudu, who alleged that the TTD favoured specific pharmaceutical brands, violating constitutional principles. TTDs counsel Prabhakar Sharma defended the process as transparent, while the petitioners lawyer JUMV Prasad argued that unequal opportunities could inflate medicine prices. MLAs interference decried Expressing astonishment over an MLA interfering in works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), the High Court questioned Vizianagaram MLA Aditi Vijayalakshmi Gajapathi Raju about her interference in works finalised by Grama Sabhas. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Ch Ravi, questioned the Collectors issuance of administrative approvals based solely on the MLAs directives, bypassing the Grama Sabha resolutions. The HC directed the government to submit detailed reports and adjourned the case to May 7. The issue stems from a PIL filed by Mamidi Appalanaidu, alleging that the MLA unlawfully modified 889 NREGS works, with the Collector granting approvals without legal scrutiny. Plea for bail closed The High Court closed a petition filed by former I&PR Commissioner Vijay Kumar Reddy seeking anticipatory bail on Wednesday. The ACB case pertains to alleged irregularities in government notifications and bill payments. Acknowledging Vijay Kumar Reddys assurance to cooperate with the investigation, the HC stated that ACB officials are free to take further action if the accused fails to cooperate. His counsel V Maheshwar Reddy informed the HC that his client had responded to ACB notices and pledging continued cooperation. Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas, representing the ACB, urged the court to allow legal action against the accused if he obstructs the probe, a request the court granted while resolving the petition.

The story of Amaravati began in 2014, when the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh left the residuary State without a capital. In the void, an opportunity emerged: to build a capital from the ground up, guided by modern urban ideals. With wide roads, underground power cables, sustainable water systems, and green-blue zones woven into the blueprint, Amaravati was designed to be more than an administrative hub. It was to become a model city for the future. What set Amaravati apart was not just its ambitious design. It was the spirit of the people who made it possible. Nearly 29,000 farmers voluntarily pooled more than 34,000 acres of land in what became one of Indias most lauded Land Pooling Schemes. In just 58 days, a total of 54,000 acres, including pooled land, acquired land, and government holdings, was assembled. The diversity of those who contributed land told its own story: 32% were from Scheduled Castes, 14% from Backward Classes, and others from Reddy, Kamma, Kapu, and Muslim communities. Amaravati, its champions said, was not just a city. It was a collective endeavour, a social contract. On October 22, 2015, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone at Uddandarayunipalem. For many, it was a day of pride. A moment when a new Andhra Pradesh began to chart its future. But the momentum faltered. When the YSRCP came to power in 2019, the project was put on hold, and construction ground to a halt. Even after the change of guard in AP, the spread of misinformation and politically motivated narratives, including caste-based divisions, undermined the initiative. Now, with the TDP-JSP-BJP coalition, described as a double-engine government, back in power, Amaravati is poised for a revival. On May 2, PM Modi is set to return to Amaravati for a ceremonial relaunch of the project. The event will be held among the very farmers who once turned over their land for APs future, a gesture that carries both emotional and political weight. VIJAYAWADA: Former Chief Minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy exhorted the party cadre to highlight the failures of the TDP-led NDA government, and be the voice of the voiceless, besides working towards strengthening the party at grassroots. Addressing the YSRCP district presidents at the party office in Tadepalli on Tuesday, Jagan alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu government had failed on all fronts. Education, health and agriculture sectors have been totally neglected. Corruption has been rampant, and the Red Book constitution is being implemented in the State. All sections of people are expressing dissent over the NDAs destructive politics, he observed. The anti-incumbency factor has set in within the first year of the coalition government, and people are vexed with the irrelevant policies of the NDA government. CM Chandrababu Naidu invites farmers to Amaravati capital relaunch ceremony

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has extended an invitation to farmers of the capital region to participate in the grand ceremony on May 2, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially relaunch construction works in Amaravati. Describing Amaravati as a divine capital, Naidu said the event will mark a turning point in Andhra Pradeshs history. During an interaction with farmers at his residence in Undavalli on Monday, he underlined the importance of the occasion, calling the construction of Amaravati a critical step for the States future. He lauded the farmers sacrifices, emphasising that it was only because of their goodwill that a world-class capital city could be envisioned. Your generosity will be remembered forever, Naidu told the gathering. Listening to farmers aspirations and concerns, the Chief Minister urged them to actively engage in every stage of Amaravatis development. He assured that the government will facilitate bank loans for the returnable plots allocated to farmers who contributed their lands under the land pooling scheme. Recalling the challenges faced since the capital was first announced in 2014, Naidu criticised the previous YSRCP government for creating confusion and betrayal. Despite attempts to provoke you and derail the capital project, you trusted us and gave 34,000 acres, he said. Sadly, under the YSRCP, the farmers suffered, and Amaravati was branded as a graveyard and a desert. However, your five-year-long struggle and resilience preserved Amaravati. Naidu reaffirmed that Amaravatis sanctity remains intact because of the farmers commitment, and any future development will prioritise their welfare. He also discussed plans for additional land acquisition, clarifying that it will be strictly need-based, such as for the construction of the international airport, cricket stadium, and other key infrastructure projects. Drawing a parallel with the development around Hyderabads Shamshabad Airport, Naidu explained that initial skepticism over land acquisition later led to significant economic growth, benefiting local farmers with soaring land values. He assured Amaravati farmers that a similar transformation awaits them. Connectivity through new bridges, inner and outer ring roads, and infrastructure development will attract major companies and investments, he added. No decision will be taken against your interests. Responding to requests, Naidu agreed to establish a memorial honouring those who lost their lives during the Amaravati capital movement. He announced plans for a museum chronicling the regions history from the Satavahana period to the present movement for Amaravati. Additionally, Naidu promised to launch a special programme to grant land titles to residents living in Gramakantham areas within the capital region who currently lack formal ownership documents. Ministers Ponguru Narayana, Anagani Satya Prasad, Vangalapudi Anitha, and MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar were among the leaders who participated in the meeting. Naidu concluded by reiterating his commitment to standing with the farmers at every step of Amaravatis development journey.

Capital Amaravati is heart and soul of Telugu people: CM

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called upon the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders from the State to not only give a rousing welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting the State on May 2 to relaunch the development of Amaravati capital city, but also make it a resounding success. During a teleconference with the NDA leaders on Monday, the Chief Minister said that Amaravati is a symbol of the self-respect of all the Telugus. Naidu also asked all the NDA leaders to see to it that no inconvenience is caused to those who are attending the public meeting to be addressed by the Prime Minister. How a family dreams of having a decent house to live in, similarly the State too should have a capital that its people can proudly claim. As decentralisation of development is the policy of the NDA, all the Central educational institutions have been located in North Andhra, Coastal and Rayalaseema districts since 2014. We will develop all the regions in an equal manner, Chandrababu Naidu said. Pointing out that Telangana is getting 70 percent of revenue from Hyderabad, Karnataka from Bengaluru and Tamil Naidu from Chennai, the Chief Minister said that the State too would get similar revenue after the development of Amaravati. He termed Amaravati as the soul of the State. Observing that the farmers had voluntarily donated their lands for building the capital, the Chief Minister said that, besides constructing the capital on these lands, the government is allotting residential and commercial plots to them after proper development. Industrial parks to come up in 42 constituencies We are making the farmers partners in capital construction, he added. Expressing confidence that the youth would get job opportunities on a large-scale if industries were set up in the State, Naidu affirmed that building roads would not only improve transportation facilities but also strengthen the States economy. He, however, warned against the rivals who were deliberately misleading people and trying to obstruct the development. He told the NDA leaders to alert the public and also explain them about the various development initiatives taken up by the government. The Ministers and the MLAs should take the responsibility of reaching out to the people and explain to them about various government schemes, he added. We are committed to both welfare and development of the State by overcoming all the challenges, Naidu said. The State government is moving ahead by fulfilling the promises made to the people in just 10 months of coming to power, Naidu said and informed the NDA leaders that the Centre had sanctioned funds for Polavaram project, railway zone for Visakhapatnam and `11,400 crore for the steel plant. He also pointed to the welfare schemes being implemented under the new regime, citing the recently issued DSC notification for 16,347 vacant teacher posts. He also announced that investment assistance would be extended to farmers next month under the Annadata scheme. He also announced that setting up of industrial parks in 42 constituencies across the State will begin from next month. Steps will be initiated soon towards realising the One Family-One Entrepreneur by setting up such industrial parks in all the 175 Assembly segments, he added. Stating that the construction of Rayalaseema steel plant too would be taken up soon, Naidu said that Visakhapatnam would be developed as an economic capital while Tirupati would become a spiritual city. Erain-Co in Ramayapatnam and ArcelorMittal Steel in Anakapalle are investing lakhs of crores of rupees, he said and stated that if Mittal plant is completed Visakhapatnam district with two steel plants will become the largest steel producing city in the country. Rayalaseema will be developed as a defence hub, with electronics, automobiles, drones, satellite launching and green-energy sectors, he said.

Andhra CID defers questioning of PSR Anjaneyulu as he develops high blood pressure

VIJAYAWADA: CID officials, who took senior IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu into custody in connection with the illegal arrest of Bollywood actress Kadambari Jethwani, postponed his interrogation on Sunday after he developed high blood pressure during a medical examination. Anjaneyulu was shifted to Vijayawada Government Hospital after being taken into CID custody from the Vijayawada sub- jail. Following the doctors advice to provide him medical care, officials deferred the questioning to Monday. Anjaneyulu, who served as Intelligence Chief during the YSRCP regime, is accused of pressuring officials and orchestrating Jethwanis illegal arrest. Based on former Vijayawada DCP Vishal Gunnis statement, an FIR was filed against him. The CID claims that Anjaneyulu ordered Gunni to go to Mumbai by booking flight tickets, and Jethwanis subsequent arrest. While former Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Kanthi Rana Tata and Gunni secured anticipatory bail, Anjaneyulu defended himself in court alongside his lawyer. However, the magistrate remanded him to judicial custody. Though there was no direct link between Jethwani and Anjaneyulu, the CID wants to find out the masterminds behind the case, suspecting higher-level political involvement. The magistrate granted the CID three day custody of Anjaneyulu from April 27 to 29.

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu proclaimed that the relaunch of Amaravati capital city works, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 2, will mark a monumental chapter in the states history, symbolizing a resolute shift from past destruction to a vibrant future of development. Addressing a high-level review meeting at his Undavalli residence with state ministers and senior officials, Naidu described Amaravati as the embodiment of Andhra Pradeshs collective pride, aspirations, and emotional sentiment, asserting that no force could undermine its significance. The Union Minister emphasised that the Modi government is committed to strengthening the Constitution, and promoting Ambedkars ideals through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, provision of clean drinking water, and construction of toilets for the poor. He noted that important sites associated with Ambedkar have been developed as Panch Tirthas and that Ambedkars portrait was finally installed in Parliament. Satya Kumar echoed these sentiments, criticising the Congress for spreading false propaganda about Ambedkars legacy. He also refuted the claims that the BJP was against reservation, stating that the party strengthened the system by adding a 10% quota for Economically Weaker Sections.

Manhole deaths: Andhra Pradesh HC orders Rs 30 lakh compensation for victims

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued landmark directives to ensure the welfare of sanitation workers, mandating substantial compensation and rehabilitation for those who die while cleaning manholes. The court ruled that all sanitation workers, who accidentally die while doing such hard tasks, are entitled to a compensation of Rs 30 lakh, as per the Supreme Court norms, along with comprehensive rehabilitation. This directive extends beyond the current case of Meda Manikyala Rao to include all similar deaths since 1983. The court instructed the Commissioner of Municipal Administration to collect data on such fatalities from all the urban local bodies as well as from workers unions to facilitate provision of compensation and rehabilitation of the affected families. It emphasised identifying the agencies or authorities under which the deceased worked to ensure accountability. The court warned that officials of urban local bodies could be held liable for such deaths with adverse entries in their service records potentially barring future promotions. In the case of Manikyala Rao, the court ordered the State government to pay Rs 30 lakh to his family, provide a job to his wife, and impart education and skill training to his children. With Rs 10 lakh already disbursed, the remaining Rs 20 lakh should be paid within a month, the court ordered. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice ChRavi, issued these orders recently following a PIL filed last year by retired Vijayawada employee Tutika Dalayya, highlighting the illegal practice of manual manhole cleaning in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation despite mechanisation mandate. The court condemned the continued reliance on manual cleaning, and scheduled the next hearing for July 16 to delve deeper into the issue. Advocate P Raviteja represented the petitioner.

Provide funds for development of Amaravati as grant, CPM urges PM Modi

VIJAYAWADA: The CPM State Committee has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide funds for the development of State capital Amaravati as a grant and not as a loan. At a press conference in Vijayawada on Sunday, CPM leaders Y Venkateswara Rao and Ch Babu Rao released an open letter to Modi ahead of his May 2 visit to Amaravati to relaunch the capital development works. The CPM accused the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of neglecting its obligations to the State under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. The CPM leaders felt that loans from the World Bank and HUDCO for the capital development could burden the State with a Rs 1 lakh crore debt. The TDP-led NDA government in the State, which plans to build the capital with Rs 1 lakh crore, should maintain transparency on Central funding, the CPM leaders said. Highlighting unresolved issues of Amaravati farmers, who gave thousands of acres for the capital development, the CPM leaders strongly opposed the governments plan to acquire 44,000 more acres. The Left party leaders condemned Deputy Assembly Speaker K Raghurama Krishnam Rajus remarks against the CPM, pertaining to demolition of 900 houses of the poor in his home constituency Undi. They demanded justice for the affected families.

The enforcement drive marked a significant step in the governments mission to eradicate illicit liquor and promote a liquor-free Andhra Pradesh. The success of this enforcement effort can be attributed to the constant guidance and proactive leadership of Principal Secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena (Excise and GAD - Political), who took keen interest through regular reviews and day-to-day monitoring of the operations. Andhra Pradesh liquor scam exceeds Rs 10,000 crore: Somireddy

VIJAYAWADA: Describing the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam as an international scam, Sarvepalli MLA and TDP Politburo member Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy said the scandal is not limited to Rs 3,200 crore, but exceeds Rs 10,000 crore. Speaking to the media at the TDP headquarters on Saturday, Somireddy said that Rs 1.30 lakh crore in cash transactions took place in the liquor business over the past five years in the State. He questioned why the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have not acted despite the gravity of the alleged Rs 3,200 crore liquor scam. Recalling that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi lost power over a Rs 60 crore corruption allegation, Somireddy pointed out that the scam linked to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is far greater. When people dethroned a prime minister for a Rs 60 crore scam, what should be done to Jagan for a Rs 10,000 crore scam? he asked. Referring to the Delhi liquor scam, where several public representatives were arrested over Rs 100 crore allegations, MLA Somireddy questioned why the ED has not initiated an inquiry into the AP liquor scam, which the senior leader claimed amounts to Rs 10,000 crore.

Liquor scam: Sajjala Sridhar Reddy remanded till May 6

VIJAYAWADA: The ACB Special Court in Vijayawada has remanded Sajjala Sridhar Reddy until May 6 in connection with the alleged liquor scam. Sridhar Reddy, listed as A6, was arrested in Hyderabad on Friday night by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and brought to Vijayawada to be presented before the court. The CID registered a case against him under Sections 409, 420, 120(B) read with Sections 34 and 37 of the IPC, and Sections 7, 7A, 8, 13(1)(b), and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. According to the remand report, Sridhar Reddy was a key player in the liquor syndicate, coordinating the sharing of kickbacks among members. He allegedly worked closely with prime accused Kesireddy Rajasekhar Reddy and regularly facilitated the issuance of Order for Sale (OFS) certificates to companies favored by APSBCL Managing Director D Vasudeva Reddy and Assistant Commissioner (Prohibition and Excise) Satya Prasad. The report stated that Sridhar Reddy threatened companies that resisted demands and possessed detailed knowledge of kickbacks, commission collections, fund transfers, and their utilisation. He reportedly admitted to meeting Raj Kasireddy before the 2019 elections and attending a syndicate meeting at Vijayasai Reddys house in October 2019, along with Vasudeva Reddy, Satya Prasad, Raj Kasireddy, and Peddireddy Mithun Reddy. The police alleged that the liquor syndicate, involving YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mithun Reddy, Raj Kasireddy, Vijayasai Reddy, Danunjaya Reddy, Balaji Govindappa, and Krishnamohan, had an arrangement to repay money taken as loans with 12% interest, apart from the kickbacks. Citing the seriousness of the charges, potential threats to witnesses, risk of evidence tampering, and flight risk, the police requested his remand. After reviewing the remand report and case details, the court ordered Sridhar Reddy to judicial custody. The alleged scam is said to have caused a Rs 3,500 crore loss to government.

From constable to IPS, Udayakrishnas journey of grit

VIJAYAWADA: In an inspiring example of hope M Udaya Krishna Reddy of Ullapalem village in Prakasam district has achieved an All India Rank of 350 in the Civil Services Examination and earning a place in the Indian Police Service (IPS). From a government school in a small village to the prestigious IPS, Udaya Krishna Reddys journey is proof that no dream is too big when powered by passion and purpose. Born into poverty and losing his parents at a young age, Udaya was raised by his grandmother Ramanamma, who sold vegetables to support him, and guided by his uncle Koti Reddy. After studying in a Telugu-medium government school, he joined the police force as a constable in 2013, serving at Gudluru and Ramayapatnam Marine police stations. Facing humiliation from a superior officer became a turning point, fueling his ambition to join the IPS. He resigned in 2018 to pursue the Civil Services full-time. Despite failing three attempts, he refused to give up. In his fourth attempt, he secured a 780th rank and joined the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS). However, determined to wear the IPS uniform, he reattempted during training and achieved the 350th rank. Speaking to TNIE , Udaya said the unwavering support from his grandmother and uncle shaped his journey. We, the youth of India, have immense potential which is yet to be realised. Dont get distracted, stay focused. Never allow anyone to degrade your dignity and self-respect, he added. He advised aspirants to dedicate at least 12 hours daily to studies with focus on covering the entire syllabus. Afterward, 8-10 hours are sufficient based on personal capability. Some may find 6-8 hours enough. What matters most is completing daily targets consistently. It typically takes 1.5 to 2 years to complete the syllabus, depending on ones intellectual ability, he noted. He explained the importance of 8 hours of sleep, nutritious food, and managing stress through spirituality, yoga, and meditation. Mastering English was another challenge for him as he studied in Telugu medium. He first completed all exercises from English textbooks of Classes 1-10, then NCERT English, and followed Raymond Murphys Essential English Grammar up to the Intermediate level. Reading English newspapers daily and novels like those of Chetan Bhagat also improved his language skills. Mentorship played a key role, too. Udaya Krishna acknowledged guidance from senior officers like Mahesh Bhagwat (Additional DG), KN Kumar (IAS officer, Meghalaya cadre), Tirupati Rao Ganta (IRS officer, Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax, Kakinada) and Rallapalli Jagat Sai (IAS officer, UP cadre). He particularly credited Mahesh Bhagwat for supporting him like a father figure. Offering advice to aspirants, he said, Coaching contributes only 10% to success; 90% depends on personal hard work and discipline. I aspire to establish a nationwide 109 emergency helpline for animal rescue. Animals need care too. I will work towards this goal with the same dedication, he said. His younger brother Pranay Krishna Reddy is also following in his footsteps, currently preparing for the Civil Services. Speaking to TNIE , his grandmother Ramanamma expressed her happiness and said, Be good and do good, God bless my grandson Udaya.
