Tripura Ex-CM meets Odisha BJP leaders to bolster party's electoral prospects

Tripura Ex-CM meets Odisha BJP leaders to bolster party's electoral prospects Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb held a closed-door meeting with Odisha BJP leaders here on Saturday and discussed strategies to increase the vote share of the saffron camp in the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the eastern state, party sources said. The discussion was held two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a meeting with party leaders, had reportedly mentioned that the BJP's vote share soared from 2-3 per cent in Tripura and it managed to come to power there. Sources said Deb was invited by the Odisha BJP to sharpen its strategies before the polls and guide it to achieve the goal. Deb, the Rajya Sabha MP, is expected to stay in Odisha for a month till the end of the elections in the state, they said. Shah had also said that the BJPs vote share in Odisha in the 2019 assembly elections was 32 per cent and 38 per cent in the Lok Sabha polls. ''Therefore, an increase in BJP's vote share is possible and the party can form the government in the state,'' Shah said in the meeting. The Odisha BJP is also contemplating consulting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while making its strategies for the elections, a senior party leader said. Assam was another state where the BJP improved its vote share and formed the government. If required, we will consult chief ministers of other BJP-ruled states and strategists to achieve the goal in Odisha, the party leader said. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, one of the BJPs star campaigners, is scheduled to participate in a roadshow for party nominee Pradip Purohit from the Bargarh Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday. Sai will join the roadshow in the Jharsuguda assembly segment.

Inciting backward classes: CM Siddaramaiah lashes out at PM Modi

Inciting backward classes: CM Siddaramaiah lashes out at PM Modi Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inciting the Backward class communities against Muslims. He addressed the huge public meeting in Rabakavi Banahatti and called upon the people to ensure the victory of Bagalkote Congress Lok Sabha candidate Samyukta Patil. After the first phase of elections to 102 Lok Sabha constituencies in the country, Modi has clearly got the hint that the BJP will lose. For this reason, he is telling terrible lies. He is inciting the backward classes against the Muslims by telling the lie that the reservation of the backward classes will be taken away to give it to the Muslims. He warned the backward caste-communities to be careful, he said. Modi also lied about reservation. He has no knowledge of the Constitution, CM said. CM Siddaramaiah said that it was the BJP that opposed the Mandal report. It is the same BJP that opposed the Mandal report and instigated the backward classes to resort to suicide. Rama Jois (Former Governor of Bihar) is from BJP who went to court against the reservation of backward classes. It was the same BJP that protested when women were given reservation in local bodies, he added. The voting on 14 seats was held on April 26 in Karnataka alongside 12 other states/Union Territories. Suvendu Adhikari Demands TMC Declared 'Terrorist Outfit' After Arms Recovery

Kolkata: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) -led West Bengal government after arms and ammunition, including foreign-made revolvers, were recovered from the premises of suspended TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali. Adhikari demanded that the ruling party be declared a terrorist outfit. Adhikari stated, All the weapons found in Sandeshkhali are foreign. Explosives like RDX are used in horrific anti-national activities. All these weapons are used by international terrorists. I demand to declare Trinamool Congress as a terrorist organization... This state is a paradise. People who watched the trailer on the incident in Khadikul, Egra, today watched the movie amid the recovery of RDX and deadly weapons in Sandeshkhali. Mamata Banerjee is fully responsible for this incident. I demand to arrest Mamata Banerjee and declare Trinamool Congress as a terrorist organization, as reported by the media. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at two premises of Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali violence, related to a January attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team by a mob allegedly incited by the now-suspended leader. According to a statement by the central agency, The CBI seized three foreign-made revolvers, one foreign-made pistol, one Indian revolver, one Colt official issue police revolver, one country-made pistol, 120 nine mm bullets, 50 cartridges of .45 calibre, 50 cartridges of .380, and eight cartridges of .32. Sandeshkhali experienced significant unrest earlier this year when women villagers accused Shahjahan and his aides of sexual harassment and land grabbing. After being suspended by the TMC for six years, Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested on February 29. The Boy's Revenge on His Ex-Girlfriend Leaves Everyone Stunned

A startling incident has emerged from Turkey, here in Izmir, where a man recently sought revenge on his ex-girlfriend in a way that caught everyone's attention. The incident occurred around 9:00 pm last week, when more than two dozen food parcels arrived in front of an apartment building on Simen Street in Izmir's Balatova district. The bizarre sight of parcels from different restaurants and over 50 food delivery boys crowding the scene was captured on cameras by passersby. The entire food delivery was intended for a single woman who was puzzled by what was happening. The matter quickly caught the attention of the press, and investigations commenced without delay. It was found that a man had sent all these food parcels to the woman under a fake name. Along with placing the orders, the man had opted for the cash-on-delivery option available on the food app, YemeiSipariEtti, which required the woman to pay and potentially engage in a dispute with the delivery boys. It was revealed that the person behind this elaborate prank was the woman's ex-boyfriend, who was attempting to harass her following the end of their relationship. Instead of using the correct phone number, the man used a suspicious number, 0555 555 55 55. However, some restaurants noticed the odd number and attempted to call for verification, but others did not make such efforts. Consequently, more than 50 orders arrived at the same address simultaneously, with delivery boys waiting outside the building for payment. What's astounding is that even after so many incidents, none of the restaurants considered filing a complaint with the police or investigating the matter further. No one even attempted to identify the suspicious activity. However, upon being contacted by journalists, several restaurants in Izmir admitted to falling victim to the prank. One restaurant owner mentioned that many other restaurants had called them to warn about fake orders, but by then, the food had already been dispatched. All orders were eventually returned, and unfortunately, the food had to be discarded. However, it has not been confirmed yet whether the person was betrayed in love, but some news outlets have reported it in a similar manner. Congress was biased against Hindus for vote bank, today they're exposed: PM Modi in Bihar's Araria

Congress was biased against Hindus for vote bank, today they're exposed: PM Modi in Bihar's Araria In a fresh attack against Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on Friday that the grand old party was iased against Hindus for vote bank. The first right on the resources of our country lies with the poor of this country irrespective of religion. The way Congress was biased against the Hindus of India for their vote bank, today they have been exposed, PM Modi said while addressing a public rally in Bihar's Araria. The Prime Minister attacked the INDIA bloc over the Supreme Court decision rejecting the plea for 100 per cent VVPAT verification of EVM votes and said every leader of the opposition grouping has committed the sin of creating doubts in the minds of people about Electronic Voting Machine and heir dreams have been shattered. They did not let people exercise their right to vote for decades. Booth capturing was very common. They did not even let the people step out to vote. Now when the poor and honest voters have the strength of EVM, they are trying all they can to get rid of the EVM. Today, the Supreme Court has given a strong verdict saying that the old system of ballot paper voting will not come back, he said. He said opposition parties should apologise to the people for creating doubts about the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Today, the whole world praises India for its democracy, for its election process, and its use of technology in the election process and these people for their own self-interest were defaming the EVMs. These people have continuously tried to betray democracy, he said. PM Modi said the verdict of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is to make India strong economically and people of Bihar have an important role to play. Today, there are two main streams in politics. One stream is BJP-led NDA which wants to strengthen the people of India. On the other side is the INDI alliance which wants to fill their own pockets by seizing the property of the people, he said. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister addressed a public rally in Bihar's Munger in which he attacked the opposition coalition accusing it of appeasement. There is an NDA model on one side and there is an INDI Alliance model on the other. INDI alliance model is appeasement (tushtikaran) and NDA's model is satisfaction (santushtikaran). We have to ensure that no one is left behind. We gave toilets, gas, electricity connections, and water facilities to our mothers and sisters. We gave free ration and free medical treatment, PM Modi said in Munger. We never asked anyone about the religion or caste of the beneficiaries...anyone who is eligible will get the benefits. This is true secularism and true social justice, he added. The Prime Minister said that the Congress party has set its eyes on the wealth of people and wants to conduct an x-ray, adding that it will seize more than half of the properties inherited by the people. The INDI alliance is using all its might for appeasement. The 'Shehzada' of Congress has said something which will bring a problem for everyone. He has said that a survey would be conducted for every family. The families have small properties and savings, women have some jewellery. The 'Stree Dhan' is considered sacred. Congress, which looted the country with corruption, has now set its eyes on your properties, PM Modi said. Congress wants to impose an inheritance tax. They say they will conduct an x-ray of every family. Today, you are able to pass on your properties to your children. But, Congress is planning... the guru of Shehzada (veiled jibe at Sam Pitroda) has said that they will seize more than half of your property. Now, two out of four-room houses, five acres out of 10-acre land, you will have to give to the government. The INDI alliance has come up with this dangerous plan, he added. The Prime Minister also addressed a public meeting in West Bengal's Malda today, where he attacked the ruling Trinamool Congress and its ally Congress. He said the ruling TMC and the Congress, which are partners in the INDIA bloc but are contesting the ongoing Lok Sabha separately in the state, are competing with each other in their 'appeasement' politics and attempts to woo a 'certain' community. The Congress wants to grab your properties and the TMC hasn't spoken a single word against it. They are competing with each other for appeasement and attempts to win over a certain community or vote bank. While the TMC government has worked to grant permanent residency to infiltrators from Bangladesh, the Congress is talking about redistributing your assets among a certain vote bank, PM Modi added. The only glue that holds the TMC and the Congress together is appeasement. These parties can go to any lengths to advance their appeasement politics and reverse any decision taken in the national interest, he added. Amid a verbal assault from PM Modi over its alleged wealth survey and redistribution pitch, the Congress has clarified that neither did it make any promise in its manifesto nor did Rahul Gandhi make any such assurance to voters. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said his party was in favour of a comprehensive socio-economic caste census. Senior party colleague and Lok Sabha candidate, Shashi Tharoor, too, waded into the matter, saying there was no mention of wealth redistribution in the Congress manifesto, adding that it was a desperate attempt by the BJP to divert public attention from the burning bread-and-butter issues affecting the people. Nowhere does it (manifesto) talk about wealth redistribution. Nowhere does it say anything about taking anybody's gold and snatching the mangalsutra of women. These are preposterous claims by the BJP and show their desperation. They know that they are losing these elections and will fling muck at us as much as they can, Tharoor said. PM Modi wrapped up the day's electioneering with a mega roadshow in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly. The day witnessed the voting in 88 constituencies across 13 states/UTs in the second phase today. According to the Election Commission, the overall turnout was registered at around 60.9 per cent. The voting was held in 13 seats in Rajasthan, 20 in Kerala, eight in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, six in Madhya Pradesh, three each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and one each in Tripura, Manipur, and Jammu & Kashmir. The first phase of voting in 102 constituencies across 21 states/UTs were held on April 19. The third phase of the seven-phase parliamentary elections will be held on May 7 and the final phase will be on June 1. The results will be announced on June 4. (ANI)

Robust Voter Turnout Marks Second Phase of Indian Parliamentary Elections

Robust Voter Turnout Marks Second Phase of Indian Parliamentary Elections Over 63 per cent polling was reported in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections covering 88 seats across 13 states amid few complaints of EVM glitches and bogus voting in some states. Voters in some villages of Uttar Pradesh's Mathura, Rajasthan's Banswara and Maharashtra's Parbhani were boycotting the polls over various issues but were later persuaded by authorities to cast their franchise. Polling for the second stage of the seven-phase elections started at 7 am and ended at 6 pm. Several states experienced intense heat conditions. The first phase of polling was held on April 19 in 102 seats across 21 states and Union territories. The Election Commission (EC) said polling remained largely peaceful. The tentative figure at 8 pm of voter turnout was 63.50 per cent. It is likely to go upwards when reports from all polling stations are obtained, the EC said, adding voters reaching polling stations till the end of polling hour are allowed to cast their vote. The National Democratic alliance (NDA) under Prime Minister Modi is seeking a stronger majority for a third consecutive term, while the constituents of the opposition INDIA bloc are hoping for a rebound after facing reverses in the 2014 and 2019 elections. Election Commission data showed the highest voting percentage was recorded in Tripura which registered 79.46 per cent polling, followed by Manipur at 77.32 while the turnout was in Uttar Pradesh at 54.85 per cent and Bihar 55.08 per cent. Polling was held in all 20 seats of Kerala, 14 of the 28 seats in Karnataka, 13 seats in Rajasthan, 8 seats each in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, 6 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 5 seats each in Assam and Bihar, 3 seats each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and 1 seat each in Manipur, Tripura and Jammu and Kashmir. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and actor-turned-politician Arun Govil, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's brother DK Suresh (Cong), and former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy (JDS) are among the key candidates while BJP's Hema Malini, Om Birla and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat seeking a hat-trick of wins from their respective constituencies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the morning urged people to cast their votes in record numbers and said a high voter turnout strengthens democracy. Stressing on the importance of each vote, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi issued impassioned appeals asking people to step out and exercise their franchise in the second phase of the Lok Sabha election. After the end of polling, Modi in a tweet said, ''Phase Two has been too good! Gratitude to the people across India who have voted today. The unparalleled support for NDA is going to disappoint the Opposition even more. Voters want NDA's good governance. Youth and women voters are powering the strong NDA support.'' In Kerala, the turnout was 65.91 per cent. The election process, held amid tight security arrangements, was primarily incident free except for instances of bogus voting and breakdowns of electronic voting machines (EVMs) being reported in some booths of the state. Such incidents resulted in delaying the polling process in the affected booths. One person each reportedly died at Palakkad, Alappuzha and Malappuram after casting their vote and a polling agent died after collapsing at a booth in Kozhikode. Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency recorded a turnout of 79.46 per cent. Election officials said there were some complaints from a few booths but those were ''promptly addressed''. A jawan of the Madhya Pradesh Special Armed Force deployed on poll duty allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at a government school where he was stationed in Gariaband district under the Mahasamund seat in Chhattisgarh, where a voter turnout of 73.62 per cent was recorded. A polling booth at Sivni village in Balod district (Kanker seat) was decorated like a wedding 'mandap', with a display of rituals of traditional weddings. Several brides and grooms, dressed in their wedding finery, cast their votes at several polling booths. The EC said people from 46 villages in Bastar and Kanker seats cast their votes in a polling booth set up in their own village for the first time in a Lok Sabha election. In neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, there was a turnout of 57.88 per cent. An estimated 71.11 per cent of the 77,26,668 voters exercised their franchise in the five parliamentary constituencies of Assam that went to polls in this phase. In restive Manipur, where polling is being held under high presence of security personnel, the turnout was a significantly high 77.32 per cent. There were reports of intimidation by suspected militants, altercation between Congress workers and NPF supporters and damage of EVM at a polling station in the Tangkhul Naga-dominated hill district. At KK Leishi Phanit polling station in Ukhrul, irate voters destroyed an EVM and other items after alleged disturbances by armed miscreants. The overall voting percentage in Karnataka was 68.30. A case was booked against BJP MP and Bangalore South Candidate Tejasvi Surya for allegedly posting a video on a social media platform and soliciting votes on the grounds of religion, the Election Commission said. Another BJP leader CT Ravi was booked for allegedly promoting hatred and enmity between citizens through his social media post. Various restaurants in Bangalore were offering free dosas, laddu, coffee and other food items at discounted rates to customers who cast their vote. A private hospital assisted 41 inpatients cast their vote with the help of city civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Green corridors were created for the ambulances across constituencies to ensure easy, hassle-free voting. Some EVMs were destroyed at a polling station in Indiganatha village in Chamarajanagara district of Karnataka during a clash between two groups of people over whether to vote or not. Officials said an FIR is being filed the Election Commission will take a call after getting a detailed report. A voter turnout of 57.83 per cent was recorded in eight constituencies in Maharashtra, while in Rajasthan, the turnout was 64.07 per cent. Incidents of confrontation between the supporters of the Congress candidate and an independent candidate were reported at a couple of places during polling in Barmer-Jaisalmer Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan. Police said they were looking into the complaints besides some about fake voting from some places. The by-election for the Bagidora assembly constituency in Banswara district was also held simultaneously on Friday and 76.66 per cent voting took place. A voter turnout of 54.85 per cent was recorded in the eight parliamentary constituencies of Uttar Pradesh. Senior citizens dominated the early hours of voting in Noida in the Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency. Some residents' welfare associations made arrangements for electric vehicles to ferry voters to and from the polling booths. In Bihar, the turnout was 55.08 per cent, 71.84 per cent in in West Bengal and 71.91 per cent in Jammu and Kashmir. The Lok Sabha polls are the first major electoral battle in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into Union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh -- on August 5, 2019. The Election Commission registered nearly 300 complaints in West Bengal, mostly related to EVM malfunctioning. After Friday's phase, polling is over in Kerala, Rajasthan and Tripura. Title: Bru Refugees in Tripura Cast Votes in Lok Sabha Elections, Marking a Historic Shift

Agartala: In a significant departure from the past, Bru refugees settled in Tripura exercised their voting rights for the Lok Sabha elections without having to return to Mizoram, marking a milestone in their resettlement process. The Bru Reang Refugee camp in Tripura's Ambassa Subdivision witnessed the historic event, allowing Bru refugees to vote without having to travel to the Tripura-Mizoram boundary as they did previously. This development marks the second time the Bru refugees participated in the electoral process from within Tripura since their permanent settlement in the state, a change brought about by a central government-sponsored rehabilitation initiative launched in January 2020. The resettlement initiative followed a quadripartite agreement signed on January 16, 2020, involving the governments of India, Tripura, Mizoram, and representatives of the Bru refugees. This agreement aimed to end the prolonged displacement of the Bru community, who had fled ethnic violence in Mizoram in October 1997 and had spent over two decades in temporary camps in North Tripura. Under the rehabilitation plan, over 14,000 Bru voters were integrated into Tripura's electoral rolls after their removal from the Mizoram rolls due to their new residency status. Currently, 6,959 Bru families are being relocated to 12 identified locations across Tripura as part of the resettlement process. A comprehensive financial package of Rs 661 crore has been allocated to support the refugees' resettlement. Authorities overseeing the process confirm that most conditions of the 2020 agreement, including provisions for free ration, financial allowances, and essential commodities, are being met. This ensures a smoother transition for the refugees into their new homes and civic life, providing them with essential amenities like water, electricity, and roads. While a significant portion of the Bru population now resides in Tripura, hundreds remain in Mizoram's Mamit district, where the initial conflict occurred. The current status of these individuals regarding voter registration and participation in the upcoming November 7 assembly election in Mizoram remains uncertain due to a lack of specific data. This milestone moment in the Bru refugees' journey signifies a significant step toward normalizing their status and highlights the collaborative efforts of multiple government bodies in upholding the democratic rights and welfare of displaced communities. The Bru refugees express gratitude for the settlement and are pleased to receive essential requirements, marking a new chapter in their lives. Over 600 Tripura Tribal Voters Denied Franchise Due to Inaccessible Polling Booths

Over 600 Tripura Tribal Voters Denied Franchise Due to Inaccessible Polling Booths More than 600 voters of a remote tribal village in Dhalai district, part of Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency, abstained from voting on Friday due to the unrepaired condition of a 7-km village road, an election official said. The villagers, numbering around 900, have been persistently demanding repairs for months, emphasising the road's critical importance to their community, the official added. ''As per schedule, the polling team reached Sadai Mohan Para polling station under Raima Valley Assembly constituency in Tripura East Lok Sabha seat,'' the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gandacherra (Raima Valley), Arindam Das, told PTI over the phone. The villagers are standing outside the polling booth but not entering it to cast their votes as they are protesting against government apathy, the official said. ''We are hopeful the villagers will join the festival of democracy, and the administration will look into their demands seriously'', he said. The villagers have also complained about the drinking water problem, Das said, adding that after getting the report, a team of officials rushed to Sadai Mohan Para to persuade the voters to exercise their democratic rights. ''I heard voters of two polling booths, one at Maldapara (Sadai Moha Para) in Dhalai district and another at Ampi in Gumati district, are not going to cast their votes as their demand for road and water supply has not been addressed. Officials have gone there to persuade the villagers to cast their vote in the elections,'' state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath told the media. ''Apart from two incidents, the polling was moderate and peaceful in all the booths so far. The CPI(M) has failed to send polling agents to the booths. It seems it is fleeing the battleground,'' Nath added.

If you make mistake of...: BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla warns against voting for Congress

If you make mistake of...: BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla warns against voting for Congress Cautioning people against voting for the Congress, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala on Friday said the grand old party will 'snatch 55 per cent' of their wealth and assets if they make the 'mistake' of putting their electoral trust in them. Speaking to media persons after casting his vote in Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Poonawala said, On one side, there is the mission and vision of PM Modi. This government lifted 25 crore people out of poverty over the last 10 years and is committed to bringing more out of penury if elected again. We have also underlined our commitment to building 3.5 crore more houses for the poor, new highways and expressways at double the rate while taking the total number of airports in the country to 70. On the other side, there is the Congress that neither has a mission nor vision. All it has to show to the people is corruption...one family's ambition, commission and the politics of division. They stand against Sanatana, have made a mockery of Shakti (women's power) and even questioned the existence of Lord Ram. However, the people will choose wisely again as they did in 2014 and 2019. Wading into the massive political uproar over the Congress' alleged promise of a wealth survey and redistribution, the BJP national spokesperson said, If you make the mistake of voting the Congress back, they will snatch 55 per cent of your wealth and assets. There is a lot of public anger over all this talk of wealth X-ray. Under the garb of appeasement, they want to snatch the rights of the OBC, SC and ST communities and give them to their favoured vote bank. The people will give them a befitting reply. He added that the BJP's campaign pitch of Abki baar 400 paar (let's aim for 400-plus seats) wasn't just limited to the party anymore but reflects the popular sentiment. Polling for Phase 2 of the general elections got underway at 7 am on Friday, with Tripura topping the voter turnout at 57.47 pc till 1 pm, according to data shared by the Election Commission (EC). Among the other states polling in Phase 2, Assam registered 46.31 per cent till 1 pm, Bihar 33.80 per cent, Chhattisgarh at 53.09 per cent, Jammu and Kashmir at 38.23 per cent, Kerala at 39.26 per cent and Rajasthan at 40.39 per cent. ONGOLE: Taking proactive measures in the summer season, the Ongole district authorities are busy in filling up all major and minor summer storage (SS) tanks under the Nagarjuna Sagar Project Right Canal (NSPRC) to cater the drinking water needs of the district. On the requests of the district and State RWS wing authorities, the NSP authorities released 5 TMC of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir through its right canal on April 8 to cater the drinking water needs of Guntur, Palnadu, Prakasam and Bapatla districts. The NSP waters reached the district border point at 85/3 mile stone which is a 137.44-km stretch on April 12 and now water flows into the Darsi Branch Canal through the Nagarjuna Sagar Jawahar Right Main Canal to reach the Darsi balancing point. Meanwhile, the district RWS officials received information from the NSP authorities that an additional share of 3 TMC will be released through the NSP Right Canal. Out of nine major and minor summer storage tanks, in three tanks, including Mutukula DW Scheme, Gollapalli DW Scheme and Kurichedu tanks, the filling process was stopped and in the remaining six tanks the filling process is underway. At present the water flow in the canal is at around 1,100 cusecs and the same flow is expected to continue for another three-four days, Ongole RWS wing EE A Ramaswamy told TNIE on Thursday. He further informed that there are around 98 SS tanks under the Nagarjuna Sagar Right main canal and the authorities are going to fill them as per the availability of the water in the coming days. With the support of the local revenue, panchayat raj, police and other government department officials and staff, established canal monitoring committees on the NSP right main canal to curtail the unauthorised water usage and water thefts. He further informed that non-notified tanks are also being filled in Tripurantakam, Kurichedu, Darsi and Mundlamuru mandals as per the representations received. The authorities are expecting that all the representation based filling of non-notified tanks will be completed by April 27, Ongole RWS SE SK Mardhan Ali said. In this connection, the Ongole Municipal authorities are also making efforts to fill the two summer storage tanks (SS-1 and SS-2) with the NSP waters. For this, now the RWS authorities are filling all the above notified and non-notified drinking water schemes as well as the tanks of the Ramatheertham Balancing Reservoir (RBR). From April 27 they will fill the RBR and then the waters will be drawn from the RBR through the Ongole Branch Canal to fill the SS-1 and SS-2 tanks in view of the summer water needs of the residents of Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) limits, the authorities informed.

Naveen Patnaiks second seat is for his political heir: Amit Shah to workers

BHUBANESWAR: In a confidence building measure for the BJP leaders and workers, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said the saffron party is going to form its first government in Odisha and a young dynamic Odia will be the chief minister. Interacting with Assembly and Lok Sabha candidates of 13 parliamentary constituencies, election in charges, state and district functionaries at a convention centre near Cuttack-Puri by-pass road, Shah said he could clearly see that this is a golden time for the BJP to come to power in the state. The BJP had only three per cent vote share in Assam and 1.5 per cent in Tripura. If it could form government in both the states with absolute majority, why not in Odisha where the vote share of the party is in the range of 32 to 38 per cent in Assembly and Lok Sabha respectively, he wondered. In 1990, the BJP was in the same footing as far as the vote percentage in Odisha and Gujarat was concerned. The party is in power in Gujarat for the last 23 years. It was possible due to the sheer determination of party workers, he said. Nothing is impossible if we have a target and determination to win elections. Do not listen what your opponents are saying because their main job is to confuse and deviate you from achieving your goal, he said. Exuding confidence that the party will do exceedingly well both in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, Shah said, Just wait for June 4. I will come to Odisha the day BJP government takes oath. A young, healthy and dynamic Odia leader will be the first chief minister of BJP in the state, he reportedly said. Acknowledging that there is still confusion in the minds of some leaders and workers of the party about the friendly relationship of the BJP with BJD, Shah said nothing is above party interests. That was the exact reason f the leadership bowed before the demands of the party workers who were against the proposed alliance with the regional party. On Chief Minister Naveen Patnaiks decision to contest from two Assembly seats, the Chanakya of Indian politics said if BJP workers thought the BJD supremo opted for a second seat with the fear of losing the election, then they are wrong. My reading is that he is going to elect his political heir through back door policy. He will leave one seat for the man of his choice and get him elected to the Assembly to stem any rebellion with the party, he said. Supposed to make a night halt in Bhubaneswar, Shah left for Bhopal after the meeting was over.

88 Seats Across 13 States, UTs to Vote Today in Second Phase

New Delhi : As election campaigns by political parties start notching up their decibel levels, the country will witness the second phase of polling for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on Friday amid predictions by the meteorological department that temperatures will soar above 40C in several parts of the country. On Friday, 13 states and Union territories will be going to the polls, including 20 seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, eight each in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, six in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, three in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur and Tripura. In all, 88 parliamentary constituencies will be going to the polls. Prominent seats going to the polls include Keralas Wayanad, represented by incumbent MP and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Thiruvananthapuram by former Union minister Shashi Tharoor, Rajasthans Jalore, being contested by former chief minister Ashok Gehlots son Vaibhav Gehlot and Chittorgarh contested by BJP state president C.P. Joshi. The BJP-led NDAs star campaigner and poll mascot Narendra Modi has been leading the campaign against the Opposition camp, which is trying hard to unseat Mr Modi this time. In 2019, the BJP had won 53 of the 89 seats and its existing allies 12 of these seats, including seven of eight in Uttar Pradesh, all 13, eight and seven in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh respectively, and four of the five seats each in Assam and Bihar. The constituents of the now INDIA bloc had won 23 seats in the last general election. Seeking to better its tally, the BJP must not only retain its bastions but also make fresh inroads as it takes on the Opposition INDIA bloc in a battle of narratives, with Mr Modi leading its charge. Following the first phase in 102 seats on April 19, the Prime Minister has stepped up his attack on the Congress, accusing it of seeking to provide nationwide reservation to Muslims in the quotas meant for Other Backward Classes. He has also warned voters in his poll rallies that a Congress government at the Centre will snatch their assets, including womens mangalsutra, to benefit those who are intruders and have more children as he cited a speech of his predecessor Manmohan Singh to back his claim. The Congress, in turn, has accused him of lying and spreading communal divide, claiming that he has been rattled by the BJPs poor show and complaining to the Election Commission against him. The BJP also has filed complaints against Congress leaders, including Mr Gandhi, prompting the poll watchdog to issue notices to the presidents of the two parties seeking their replies. Whether the soaring political temperature prevails over the heatwave-like conditions, blamed in some quarters for the fall in poll percentage last week, and pushes more voters to booths is something political watchers will be keeping an eye on. Kerala, like Tamil Nadu in the first phase, will be a test of the BJPs all-out expansion drive, states like Maharashtra and, to a lesser extent, Karnataka are being watched keenly as many new factors have come into play there since 2019. A BJP ally in the last national elections, Uddhav Thackeray is now the face of the INDIA bloc in Maharashtra while the official version of the Shiv Sena he once headed is a BJP ally under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Another major regional party Nationalist Congress Party has since split as well and its faction under deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, recognised as the real party, is now with the BJP while Sharad Pawar, its founder leader, is part of the opposition bloc. The BJP-led alliance had won 41 of 48 seats in the western state, which has the most Lok Sabha constituencies after Uttar Pradesh. The Congress is now in power in Karnataka and its former ally JD(S) is in the BJP camp. The BJP-led NDA has incumbent MPs in 27 of the states 28 seats, and the INDIA bloc is banking on its welfare schemes to dent its stronghold. The BJP is relying on actor Suresh Gopi, Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Anil Antony, the son of veteran Congress leader A K Antony, to open its account in Kerala which has never elected an MP from the party. Mr Chandrasekhar is pitted against three-time Congress MP Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram. Mr Gandhi is in the fray from Wayanad, the constituency he currently represents in Lok Sabha. The turn-out in the first phase was recorded at 62.37 per cent which may still be revised upwards as votes are tallied. The voting percentage in the first phase in 2019 was 69.43 per cent when 91 seats went to the polls.
