Why I feel my Yamaha R15 V4 is the perfect bike for youngsters

BHPian sasta_rider recently shared this with other enthusiasts. 20,000 km update As of 12-May-2024, it was 2 years and 22 days with my R15 v4. The journey (ownership) with R15 has been a lot of ups with a little bit of downs. After all, life is full of ups and downs, right! In this post, I will pen down few positives and negatives (which can be subjective) about this beautiful machine which is engineered for perfection and youngsters like me. Positives:Fuel economy: Considering the purpose of this machine, it has returned me on average of 42-45 kmpl since Day 1, except during the break-in period during which I even got a higher fuel economy on a full tank. The drop in fuel economy is in decimals with continuous revving the engine on highways at triple digit speeds, still it returns good FE.Refinement: Encountered a speed bump? R15 can easily come out in 2nd gear without much fuss around. Crusing on a good highway at triple digit speeds? The handlebars, visor and footpegs does not give you the fatigue on any part of your body. Every part is neatly placed where it is supposed to be. No jiggles or rattles on any body part (except for the tail light in my case).Range: With a 11 L fuel tank and an average FE of 45 kmpl, you can easily travel long distances without worrying about frequent fuel breaks.Capability to perform long rides: This aspect is a positive side for me because I have made this a reality on a faired bike. The Modpacs can be fit in a way that you won't need any extra bungies. Slick handling comes in handy at intersections where the locals are in their own world: riding/driving slowly, not giving way and being rude at times. On highways, the bike sticks on to the ground with ease.Negatives:Logistics of Yamaha Parts: This is a negative because I have seen how worst the Yamaha service centers in smaller cities deal with acquiring a part. It is due to the norms set by Yamaha India or the service center, I do not know! To give you an idea, I had ordered one of the dual horns in the month of Nov-2023 (before the India Bike Week Ride) to replace my defective horn under warranty. Surprisingly, the Yamaha Kasaragod service center calls me in Jan-2024 saying that the part has arrived. However, just before the IBW ride, I had already paid 220/- for the part and got it fixed from Yamaha Mangaluru because horn is very much required during long rides.Stock MRF Tires: Stock 100/80 (F) and 140/70 (R) MRF Zapper tires are the worst IMHO. I never had the courage to lean when on stock tires. Why should I risk myself with a product which I am not at all comfortable!? If you have the budget, go for Apollo Alpha H1 or Michelin Road 5 during the delivery day for added ride quality & wet road grip.Rust & Wiring: The quality control by Yamaha India on a premium motorcycle like this should be of Japanese standard! There should be no signs of rust and exposed wires. If not, then reduce the price by a certain amount. I hate rust, especially if its on any vehicle that I own.Lack of beans (power): This is since recent few months where-in the bike runs butter smooth for the initial 2000 km after any periodic service involving oil and filter change. After this, my R15 has started to give sluggish attitudes upon opening the throttle. I feel like it is the time to replace the spark plugs with new ones. Need to check this with the Vinayak Yamaha folks at Bangalore, who just takes care of my R15 like its their own! What a wonderful 155 cc segment machine this is! Since I have crossed 2 years of ownership, I am getting the urge to Stage 1 (or 2) tune my R15 from reputed place like Race Dynamics or Code6 Racing. For this, I need to start allocating a separate budget which I need to think about. Also, need to learn more about how tuning can effect the bike, especially the pistons, crankshaft and the exhaust. Suggestions or feedbacks from an expert on this regard is very much appreciated! Read BHPian comments for more insights and information.

Dakshina Kannada district administration gears up for monsoon season

Dakshina Kannada district administration gears up for monsoon season The Dakshina Kannada district administration has got down to work ahead of the monsoon season (June to August) by beginning preparations to tackle various rain-related issues. At a meeting held on Tuesday, the district authorities, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP reached out to the ground-level bureaucracy with directions on how to handle the challenges during the monsoon season. Addressing the drinking water and disaster management authority officials, he highlighted the problems faced due to poor maintenance of the electrical system under Mangaluru Electric Supply Company (MESCOM) and said it was not just failure of power supply during rains but also snapping of live cables and falling electric poles which were a concern. Since this would cause serious damage to life and property, he urged MESCOM to take precautions by carrying out inspections. Muhilan also directed MESCOM to deploy additional men and open more control rooms across the district during the monsoon season and said both urban and rural areas must be given equal importance. Muhilan said in the run-up to the monsoons, the existing domestic water availability should be managed prudently. At the meeting, emphasis was laid on cleaning of dumping yards and garbage disposal areas before the monsoon. The health department was asked to take precautionary measures against the spread of infectious diseases such as dengue and malaria during the rainy season. He said that the National Highway should list areas where landslides occur in Charmadi Ghat areas and information should be made available to people about traffic related issues in ghat areas. The district Deputy Commissioner instructed the Fisheries Department to hold a meeting on precautionary measures for fishermen during the rainy season.

Election fervor remains high in Karnataka as parties gear up for MLC polls

Mangaluru: Although the parliamentary elections in Karnataka have concluded, the election fervor remains high as political parties prepare for the upcoming Legislative Council elections for the Teachers and Graduates constituencies, set for June 3. BJP, JD(S) and Congress parties are gearing up for the election. Election is being held for the 3 Teachers' and 3 Graduates' constituencies in the state. As per the alliance, the BJP has allowed the JD(S) to field its candidate, sitting MLC SL Bhoje Gowda, from the Southwest Teachers constituency. However, the spotlight is on the Southwest Graduates constituency, which includes Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga, and the Channagiri and Honnali Taluks of Davangere, traditionally a BJP stronghold. The BJP has controlled the Southwest Graduates constituency for about 45 years. This election, however, has garnered significant interest for several reasons. The BJP has named Dr. Dhananjaya Sirji, while the Congress has fielded Ayanur Manjunath. Manjunath, who won this seat for the BJP in 2018, resigned from the party in 2023, contested the assembly election as a JD(S) candidate, and later joined Congress. He will now contest as the Congress candidate. Adding to the intrigue, former Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat has rebelled against the BJP and decided to run as an independent candidate. Bhat, denied an assembly ticket in 2023, was rumored to be considered for the Council election. However, with the BJP opting not to field him, he has chosen to contest independently. Congress party is confident of grabbing the Graduates' Constituency from the BJP in this election. Ayanur Manjunath has a close association with the voters in the constituency. Voters are pleased with the work of the state government. Additionally, the growing strength of the INDI Alliance nationwide is noticeable. All these factors will help the Congress, AICC Secretary PV Mohan told Deccan Chronicle. He also mentioned that the 'Yuva Nidhi' scheme, one of the partys guarantees for unemployed graduates, would benefit Congress in this election. It would not be surprising if Congress wins all the seats. A new era has begun, he added. BJP leaders are vigilantly observing the developments. This has been our seat for over four decades. However, we cannot be overconfident. In the last election, we lost the Southwest Teachers constituency to JD(S) candidate SL Bhoje Gowda, a seat we held for about 40 years. If Raghupathi Bhat garners significant votes and there is no rebel candidate within Congress, Congress stands a better chance, a senior BJP leader stated. However, BJP leaders are hopeful that Bhat's rebellion will not damage the party. Raghupathi Bhat has enrolled many voters in Udupi. Even if they support him, he faces the challenge of securing votes in other districts where he lacks influence, he said. BJP has a strong presence in this region and our candidate will surely win if all the elected representatives work unitedly, he added. As Bhat prepares to file his nomination on Thursday, BJP leaders are making efforts to persuade him to reconsider his independent candidacy.

I steer clear of mimicking someone else: Nakash Aziz

BENGALURU: Infectious energy, impeccable vocal prowess, ability to captivate, enchant make Mangaluru-born singer Nakash Aziz stand out in the sea of talents of the music industry. With his blend of versatility, energy, and soulful renditions, Aziz has carved a niche for himself. Since his debut, Aziz has been delivering one chartbuster after another, including songs in popular Hindi films like Aisha and R Rajkumar; and Kannada films like Thamassu and Vikrant Rona. The recently released single by Aziz, Pushpa Pushpa from Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa 2 is ruling the charts. CE gets in touch with Aziz about the song, his new collaboration with Oriyon Music curated by Arijit Singh, musical journey and more. Tell us about your track Tu Naazneen on Oriyon Music. Tu Naazneen is a simple song that speaks about longing in a direct and straightforward manner. The song conveys the feeling of missing someone, especially in a long-distance relationship. Its all in the words, which are simple and heartfelt. What inspired you to pursue a career in music? My pursuit of a career in music wasnt so much about being inspired as it was about my love for music and art in general. I started making music in a garage, with basic equipment and limited resources. Over time, I sought to improve the quality and collaborate with talented artists. This drive to collaborate with the best and be part of exciting projects has shaped my career in music. Can you tell us about your journey in the music industry so far? My journey has been nothing short of beautiful. Despite warnings of its harshness, Ive encountered genuine souls whove helped me grow. Letting others push me has been key. Theyve pushed my talent, patience, and physical limits, helping me surpass what I thought possible. What I cherish most is collaborating with those who share my drive. Its this journey of growth that keeps my passion for music alive. How do you approach the process of selecting songs to perform or record? I vividly recall each recording session. In the studio, I always strive to innovate, even if it means trying something unexpected. I believe in pushing boundaries, knowing that if it doesnt work out, theres always a delete button. Its about embracing the unfamiliar, giving it a chance to grow on you. Sometimes, what initially seems daunting becomes an integral part of the final piece. Thats the beauty of experimentation in music. What challenges have you faced as a singer, and how have you overcome them? The challenge I often encounter is the expectation for me to be someone else. I find it unfair because everyone is unique, with something valuable to offer. I steer clear of mimicking someone else for the sake of results. While tribute or mimicry can be fun, serious emulation is unjust. Your versatility as a singer is widely appreciated. How do you manage to excel in various genres? Ive only just begun to delve into the world of music genres in my personal space. Exploring different kinds, forms, and genres of music brings me immense joy. I admire artists like Rehman sir, Pritam da, and Vishal-Shekhar from the Hindi film industry who have brilliantly explored a wide range of genres. Their versatility is truly inspiring. Are there any particular artists who have influenced you? If I were to pinpoint major influences, Id have to mention AR Rehman, Hans Zimmer, Michael Jackson, and Pritam da. Yet, it feels unfair to single out just one. Theres a wealth of inspiration to draw from, spanning diverse artists like Coldplay and Bruno Mars. What advice would you give to aspiring singers who are just starting their careers? Remember, music is meant to be enjoyed. So, simply revel in your music, soak in the joy it brings, and let that be your guiding principle.

Drop plan to scrap Palakkad railway division says Abdurahiman

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister V Abdurahiman on Sunday shot off a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urging him to drop the move to scrap Palakkad railway division. In his missive, Abdurahiman, the state minister for railways, said Palakkad division was way ahead in terms of passenger traffic and revenue generated. The decision to scrap the division was part of a conspiracy against Kerala, he said in a statement. Abdurahiman said the railways has been neglecting the state when it comes to development and sought an end to the neglect towards demands such as doubling of tracks and allotment of new trains. During the UPA rule, Salem division was carved out of Palakkad division. Later, there were efforts made to undermine the Palakkad division. The Union government had made attempts to make Palakkad division part of Mangaluru division, but that was thwarted by the state by organising strong protests, the statement read. The minister also trained guns on UDF parliamentarians and accused them of doing little in the face of Union government apathy. He also accused Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan of being at the forefront of opposing Keralas demand.

According to police, Mohammed travelled from Dubai to Mangalore on the night of May 8 in an Air India Express flight and reached Mangalore International Airport at 7.30 am the next day. After the aircraft took off from Dubai, Mohammad went to the toilet and then came out and asked the crew about a person called Krishna, who was not on the passenger list of that flight. He further heckled the crew by asking irrelevant questions and disturbing the crew by unnecessarily pressing the service button multiple times. He then took off the life jacket he had on the plane, gave it to the crew and said he would use it after landing. He also allegedly said that he wanted to fly on his own over the sea when the flight was over the Arabian Sea, police said.

Five-time Belthangady MLA Vasanth Bangera passes away

Mangaluru: Senior politician and five-time MLA from Belthangady K Vasanth Bangera passed away after a brief illness at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Bangera, aged 78, left an indelible mark on Karnataka's political scene, winning the Belthangady seat for various parties across decades. He secured victories for the BJP in 1983 and 1985, represented Janata Dal in 1994, and triumphed twice for the Congress in 2008 and 2013. His political journey commenced with a significant win for the BJP in 1983, defeating the incumbent Congress MLA Gangadhar Gowda. Notably, Bangera was among the 18 BJP MLAs elected to the assembly that year. In 1985, he stood out as one of only two BJP MLAs, alongside BS Yediyurappa. He quit BJP and contested as an independent candidate in 1989. Bangera's return to prominence came as a Janata Dal candidate in 1994 and became the party's chief whip in the assembly. During the Janata Dal split, he remained with Deve Gowda. Bangera's association with the JD(S) endured until the party formed a coalition with the BJP in Karnataka. In a pivotal move, Bangera joined the Congress, emerging victorious in both the 2008 and 2013 elections. He was closely associated with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Known for his straightforwardness, Bangera's commitment to public service endeared him to the masses, who sought his assistance even during his periods out of power. Fondly remembered by the people of Belthangady, Bangera's legacy includes his advocacy for critical issues such as the Monkey Fever outbreak, where he drew attention at the assembly in the presence of then-Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde. He was suffering from health issues for a few months. His mortal remains are expected to be brought to Belthangady on Thursday. Prominent political figures, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, have expressed their condolences over the passing of K Vasanth Bangera. The Chief Minister shared his condolences through a message posted on his official social media account on the X platform.

BJP and Congress Lock Horns in Crucial Polls Northern Karnataka

MANGALURU: May 7th marks a crucial electoral showdown in the Northern Karnataka region, with 14 constituencies, including Kalyana-Karnataka and Kittur Karnataka, heading to the polls. The electoral arena is set for a fierce contest between the Congress and BJP, both vying to secure significant seats and bolster their respective standings at the Center. Amidst this electoral fervor, several constituencies are poised for particularly intriguing battles. The BJP is primarily focusing on the image of Modi and showcasing developmental initiatives, including the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, in its bid to secure votes. Meanwhile, the Congress party is relying on its guarantee schemes and leveraging the anti-incumbency sentiment as key strategies for electoral success. The 14 constituencies slated for elections tomorrow encompass Chikkodi, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar, Koppal, Bellary, Haveri, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, and Davangere. In the 2019 election, BJP had won all these seats. This electoral spectacle features a noteworthy lineup of candidates, including two Union Ministers, two former Chief Ministers, and the children of three Karnataka Cabinet Ministers, alongside the son-in-law of the AICC president. The districts have witnessed a flurry of political activity, with both state and central leaders canvassing extensively for their candidates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with leaders like Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and Vijayendra, has spearheaded vigorous campaigns, while Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge have mobilized their forces with equal fervor. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM and KPCC president DK Shivakumar have strategically shifted focus to the North Karnataka region post the conclusion of elections in South and Coastal Karnataka on April 26. Of particular interest is the Gulbarga constituency in the Kalyana Karnataka region, where sitting MP Dr. Umesh Jadhav locks horns with Congress candidate Radhakrishna. Radhakrishna, who is the son-in-law of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, is at the heart of a political battleground. With the BJP determined to unseat the Congress candidate on the home turf of the AICC president, the Congress has launched an extensive campaign to reclaim its stronghold. Mallikarjun Kharge himself has undertaken numerous tours across Kalyana Karnataka, leaving no stone unturned in his efforts to bolster his party's influence in the region. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi is fighting against Congress candidate Vinod Asooti in Dharwad. Lingayat seer Dingaleshwar Swamiji's vocal opposition to Joshi's candidacy further underscores the intricacies of local dynamics, leaving people curious about the seer's followers' voting patterns. In Bidar, Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Bhagwanth Khuba, seeks reelection against Congress' youthful contender Sagar Khandre, son of Karnataka Minister Eshwar Khandre, amplifying the clash of political legacies. Similarly, in Chikkodi, Priyankar Satish Jarkiholi, daughter of PWD Belagavi district witnesses familial and political confrontations, with PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi's daughter Priyankar Satish Jarkiholi stepping into the electoral arena for the first time against BJP's sitting MP Annasaheb Jolle in Chikkodi. Former CM and BJP leader Jagadish Shettar squares off against Women and Child Welfare Minister Laxmi Hebbalkars son Mrinal Hebbalkar in Belgaum. Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai's bid for an MP seat from Haveri faces a challenge from Congress' Anandswamy Gaddadevaramath, while Samyukta Patil, daughter of Agriculture Marketing Minister Shivanand Patil, confronts BJP's PC Gaddigaudar who has been winning the seat for BJP since 2004. JD(S), which is in alliance with BJP in Karnataka, is not contesting in any of the 14 constituencies where the election is scheduled on Tuesday. However, JD(S) state president and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, along with his leaders, has been campaigning for the BJP candidates in the North Karnataka region.

Lakshadweep administration ignores Beypore, starts more ship services to Mangaluru

KOZHIKODE : The ties between Beypore port and Lakshadweep seem to be eroding as the island administration has resumed passenger ship services to Mangaluru. Citing inadequate infrastructural facilities at Beypore port, the Lakshadweep administration has decided not to reinstate vessel services from the port. Earlier, there was a discreet attempt by the Lakshadweep administration to divert freight transit from Beypore and Kochi ports to Mangaluru port, a decision that faced opposition from Kerala. Traders associations in Kozhikode allege that the neglect of Beypore port stems from the Lakshadweep administrations vested interests. Beypore was the preferred choice for many residents of the islands due to its proximity and familial ties with Malabar. Lakshadweep residents share strong cultural bonds with Kozhikode and Malappuram. Until the pandemic, high-speed vessels like Valiyapani, Cheriyapani, and Parali were used for passenger services between Beypore and Lakshadweep. We urged the Lakshadweep port administration to resume ship services, but the port director has rejected the demand citing insufficient draft length at Beypore port, said Sirajudheen Ellathodi, secretary of the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Even the smallest all-weather passenger ships of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration -M V Arabian Sea and MV Lakshadweep Sea- require a minimum draft of 3.5 m. The currently available depth at the wharf of Beypore is 3.4 m. Hence, the available depth at Beypore wharf is not sufficient for the safe operation of all-weather passenger vessels owned and operated by Lakshadweep administration, said R Giri Shankar, director of Lakshadweep port department, in a letter to the Calicut Chamber of Commerce. The letter also cites disapproval from competent authorities to restart the service. Despite the Beypore port officers assurance via email to the Lakshadweep administration that the new wharf has a depth of 3.5 m, the island administration is yet to respond. Lakshadweep residents have also protested against the administrations decision. The majority of Dweep residents depend on Kerala, especially Kozhikode, for healthcare and education. Since the administration discontinued ship services to Beypore, we are compelled to travel to Kochi and now to Mangaluru for transportation facilities. What is the use of conducting service to Mangaluru if we want to travel to Kozhikode? We are facing significant challenges under the Lakshadweep administration led by Praful K Patel, said Dr S M Althaf, a resident of Lakshadweep. Meanwhile, the Lakshadweep administration restarted the vessel service connecting Kadmat and Kilthan islands in Lakshadweep with Mangaluru Old Port on Thursday. The ticket price is set at Rs 650 for a single journey.

Congress Targets 18 Parliamentary Seats in Karnataka

Mangaluru: Amidst fervent speculation, Congress leaders in Karnataka have set their sights on securing over 18 parliamentary seats in the upcoming elections. Their optimism stems from the remarkable performance in the last year's assembly elections, where they clinched 135 seats, coupled with the successful implementation of five guarantee schemes. We secured 135 assembly seats in the previous election. If we translate this victory, it would equate to 18 parliamentary seats, KPCC working president Manjunath Bhandary told Deccan Chronicle. Our track record of delivering on these promises has resonated positively with the people. Therefore, we are confident of surpassing 18 seats in the parliamentary elections, he expressed hope. Bhandary emphasized the comparative failures of the BJP government in fulfilling promises in 10 years, contrasting them with Congress's successful implementation of assurances within months of coming to power. He also highlighted Prime Minister Modi's recent speeches, criticizing the absence of a report card on the government's achievements and instead focusing on tangential issues like 'Mangalsutra,' which, according to him, indicates BJP's apprehension. Congress leaders are eyeing and setting strategies to win those cosntiteuncies in North Karnataka region where the party had lost the last election by a small margin and also those places where there is unhappiness within BJP. Meanwhile, BJP leaders, while acknowledging the potential impact of the guarantee schemes, assert that the voting patterns of the people will remain in favor of the Modi government in the parliamentary elections, citing satisfaction with its performance.

Nixing Ernakulam Jn from Venad Express halt list sees other trains get punctual

KOCHI: May 1, 2024, proved to be an emotional day for scores of passengers who had been travelling to Ernakulam Junction railway station onboard 16302 Thiruvananthapuram - Shornur Venad Express. That was the first day in a long time when Venad Express didnt come chugging into the station. Nor did the platforms see a flurry of hasty steps of office-goers rushing towards the exit to catch the autorickshaw in a last-minute dash to reach their places of employment before the punching deadline. Even as those, for whom Ernakulam Junction railway station has been the main thoroughfare for years felt sad and angry, others who travelled beyond were a happy lot. The removal of Ernakulam Junction station from the list of halts of Thiruvananthapuram-Shornur Venad Express from May 1 although a temporary move, according to officials has elicited a mixed response from passengers. Even though those travelling to places beyond Ernakulam welcome the decision, regular commuters who work in the government and private sectors, Kochi corporation, etc., have raised objections. The move comes after demand was raised by various passenger associations in the state. Speaking about the amount of time that could be saved if Venad skips Ernakulam Junction, Paul Manvettom, president of the All Kerala Railway Users Association (AKRUA), said, This has been a long-standing demand of passengers. A delay of 30 or more minutes every day is not desirable in this day and age when time is precious. Passenger associations, including mine, had petitioned the railway board and ministry with the demand. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the train made the right time at Ernakulam Town enabling all the other trains coming right after it keep their dates with the corresponding stations. For the first time in years, I was able to reach Ernakulam Town railway station at 10:40 am, says Tibin Kuriakose who commutes in Nagercoil-Mangaluru Parasuram Express. Before the halt was removed, those travelling in Parasuram Express had to suffer long halts at Tripunithura followed by another 10 to 15-minute stop at the outer of Ernakulam Town station, he adds. But since yesterday, it was bliss. No halt overs and no delay, says Tibin. A lot of the issues faced by Ernakulam Junction station can be resolved once this happens. However, we have demanded that to ease office rush and cater to the needs of people who disembark at Ernakulam Junction, a MEMU service from Kayamkulam or Kollam via Kottayam be run at around 7:55am, said Paul. It is a time slot that falls between Palaruvi and Venad Express trains. Echoing the view, Sreekumar V, a passenger who depends on Venad to get to Thrissur, said, Why waste 30 or more minutes? Just because this train gets held up, all other services that follow also get affected. It has a domino effect. I once happened to travel by Parasuram Express. The train was stopped at a place which resembled a no mans land. After more than 15 minutes here, the long-distance train was held over again, this time in the outer area of Ernakulam Town station, all for Venad Express. However, Liyons J, secretary of Friends on Rails, said, To take away the Ernakulam Junction halt of Venad Express, citing the arrival of Kochi Metro service to Tripunithura, is not justified. Metro is no substitute. We have expressed our strong protest on this matter. Those who oppose the move say Venad is an office-timing train from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam Junction. If the junction is skipped without providing an alternative, it would become a problem for hundreds of commuters, said Sindhu R, a state government employee whose office in located near Maharajas College. They also point to severe traffic congestion on the Kottayam to Ernakulam route. If Ernakulam Junction is avoided, it will be a disservice to passengers. If Venad departs from Tripunithura at 9.20 am, it can reach Junction station at 9.40am. Anyway, Venad usually reaches the station before 10am. But if a person gets down at Tripunithura at 9.20am, it will take them at least 15 minutes to reach a metro station. The metro service runs at seven-minute intervals. From there it takes 20 minutes to reach the Junction. Taking into account the time taken to get out of the station, it is not so easy for a person alighting at Tripunithura to reach their offices on time. Also, a metro ticket between the two destinations costs Rs 30. The average person cannot afford this, Liyons added. The critical voices, however, said the new arrangement will work if a MEMU service from Tripunithura is started to coincide with the time Venad arrives there. Not the first time In 2019, railways planned to change the route of Venad Express, which would have seen it skip Ernakulam South station. It was then decided to nix the stop after the train switched to Linke Hoffman Busch (LHB) rakes. Unlike the old rakes, LHB coaches receive power from the engine. So electrical parts have to be disconnected before the engine is replaced. Then after reconnecting, the entire mechanism has to be inspected before the train can be allowed to proceed. This takes around 40 minutes. This is not the first time that Junction stop has been distanced from Venad. The train had run for around one-and-half years skipping the station, before it was reinstated following continuous representations by passengers and peoples representatives.
