Shiv Sena condemns Congress' Wadettiwar remarks on 26/11 and Mumbai Police

Shiv Sena condemns Congress' Wadettiwar remarks on 26/11 and Mumbai Police Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) Secretary and Spokesperson, Kiran Pawaskar on Saturday criticized state opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar for allegedly making disparaging comments regarding the candidacy of advocate Ujjwal Nikam. Shiv Sena alleged that in the video, Wadettiwar was making disrespectful remarks about the valiant policemen who sacrificed their lives during the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai. Pawaskar strongly rebuked Wadettiwar's statements, emphasizing that the track record of the Congress suggests the promotion of terrorism rather than its prevention. The Congress is not a party that prevents terrorism, but promotes it, he said. He further lamented the silence of Uddhav Thackeray, former Maharashtra Chief Minister, on this matter, insinuating a reluctance to address the issue for fear of upsetting certain communities. Vijay Wadettiwar should be detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and a thorough investigation should be conducted as to why he is defending terrorist Ajmal Kasab, he added. Furthermore, Kiran Pawaskar highlighted the history of alleged terrorist incidents that occurred across India during the Congress regime, underscoring the compromise of national security during that period. Terrorist attacks took place from Kashmir to Kanyakumari during the Congress period. The internal security of the country was compromised. During the tenure of the UPA government for 10 years, there were major terrorist attacks in every metropolis of India. During this period, there were bomb blasts in cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Malegaon. What's more, the Congress government was in power at the time of the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, Pawaskar said. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is a nationalist organization. But Congress considers RSS as terrorists, while organizations like PFI are dear to Congress, he added. The Shiv Sena leader also demanded a public apology from Vijay Wadettiwar to the martyrs of the 26/11 attack and the entire police force for his derogatory remarks. (ANI)

Indian Economy Faces Risks under Congress Manifesto, Warns Nirmala Sitharaman

Indian Economy Faces Risks under Congress Manifesto, Warns Nirmala Sitharaman If Congress' poll manifesto were to be implemented, the Indian economy currently ranked among the top five globally, would regress into the ''fragile five'', Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday. She claimed the Congress poll document is ''more akin to a Muslim League document'' and the BJP is duty-bound to question its import. Sitharaman's attack comes against the backdrop of the 'conducting an economic survey and x-ray of society' remarks made by Rahul Gandhi and the BJP's allegation that Congress is planning redistribution of wealth if voted to power. ''It is the worst manifesto which is not in the interest of the nation,'' Sitharaman said. Speaking at a meeting with select journalists in Pune, the finance minister wondered whether the Congress has conducted the necessary financial planning to fulfil the assurances listed in its manifesto. ''I know they are not coming to power, but I would still like to ask, even if the subject of the Congress manifesto were to be implemented, has the Congress done the homework on the expenditure required to fulfil the promises listed in the manifesto?'' she asked. Citing the case of Congress-ruled Karnataka, Sitharaman said they (Congress) attempted to implement the promises made during the state polls despite knowing that they had no funds. ''The deputy chief minister (of Karnataka) publicly acknowledged that they were left with no funds for development as the money was spent on fulfilling five promises made during elections,'' she said. ''This is just about one state. If similar measures (in Congress' poll manifesto) were to be implemented across the country, the economy, currently ranked among the top five globally and projected to rise to the third position in the next couple of years, would regress into the 'fragile five','' the finance minister said. It is the BJP's duty towards the nation to question the poll document of the Congress. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Congress of planning to redistribute peoples property if it is voted to power. On its part, the Congress has accused the PM of resorting to ''lies'' and diverting people's attention from the real issues. Responding to a query, Sitharaman said it is the BJP which has set the agenda for the elections. ''Our response to the Congress' manifesto is neither defensive nor negative, rather it is more offensive and substantive,'' she said. The manifesto is more akin to a Muslim League document, and if not, the Congress should stand up and counter this observation (of BJP), Sitharaman said. Referring to the criticism that BJP is spreading misinformation about Congress's manifesto, Sitharaman said, ''What is wrong? We are asking questions. (The manifesto) is the fundamental point of departure from the Congress's ideology, if there was one''. According to Sitharaman, there is a consistency in the way the opposition is prioritising wealth and its rights on the wealth. ''The Congress is saying something in the manifesto. It is saying something more to supplement it during public rallies,'' Sitharaman said when asked why PM Modi is raising the issue of the redistribution of wealth on religious lines. She said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has repeated this point (conducting caste census) when he spoke about doing the 'x-ray' of the society. ''One can say that Congress did not mean it (redistribution of wealth) but they say they mean it. When PM Modi asked about it...he asked because he saw the trend....he saw the written word and also the spoken word. So he is saying that this is what they are going to do,'' Sitharaman added.

Health Alert: Be careful if you eat mangoes, eating too much can cause stomach problems.

Summer season is incomplete without mangoes. Mango, known as the king of fruits, contains many types of vitamins and other nutrients that our body needs regularly. Apart from being a good source of Vitamin C, it is also rich in fiber which helps increase immunity and maintain proper digestion. For example, mango is not only a favorite fruit in terms of taste but it can also have many health benefits. But do you know that as much as we love this amazing fruit, it is important to be careful about its side effects. Paradoxically, eating mango is considered better for digestion due to fiber, but if it is consumed in excess, it can lead to problems like swelling, diarrhea, stomach ache, ulcers, and indigestion. Health benefits of mango Studies show that mangoes are rich in phytonutrients that our bodies need to stay healthy. However, in some situations, due to its excessive consumption, there can be a risk of increased sugar, diarrhea, and many other health problems. Health experts say, that if you eat mango without washing it properly after bringing it from the market, then the harmful elements used to cook it can enter the stomach, due to which there can be a risk of increasing poisoning. These precautions are necessary before eating mango Medical reports show that most of the fruits are cooked using unnatural methods. For this, a chemical called calcium carbide (CaC2) is used. When calcium carbide is mixed with water, acetylene gas is released from it. Acetylene gas helps in ripening the fruits. There is a risk of poisoning by eating fruits cooked with calcium carbide. Due to this, there is a risk of serious skin problems along with poisoning and kidney failure. Therefore, before eating mango, soak it in water for at least two hours and eat it only after washing it thoroughly. Digestion problems due to eating too much mango Pune-based dietitian Priyanka Nagar (MSc Nutrition) says that consuming mangoes in excess can lead to digestive problems, mainly due to their high fiber content. Consuming excessive fiber increases the incidence of bloating, gas, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. It is better to consume mango in limited quantity. One should not eat more than 3-4 mangoes a day. Risk of increased blood sugar Mango is one of the fruits with high glycemic index which means it can cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels if consumed in excess. For individuals with diabetes or insulin resistance, this may put them at risk of sugar spikes. Dietitian Priyanka says diabetic patients should avoid eating mangoes. People whose sugar is under control can eat one mango a day on the advice of their doctor. (PC: ISTOCK)

Startup funding in India declined by 17 per cent in FY24

NEW DELHI: The startup funding in India registered a decline of 17 per cent in FY 24 as compared to the previous year. In 2021 the investment professionals were getting on average six deals daily but in 2024, it has declined to three. According to a report titled 'India Invests' by Wealth 360 One, the private equity of value USD 100-250 million range, is down by 60 per cent. While those investing USD 500 million or more too have gone down drastically by over 80 per cent. The funds investing less than USD 100 million have also registered a decline of 30 per cent. But funding under USD 5 million is still happening at a steady rate. The report highlights that the bigger deals, over USD 25 million, which usually happen when a startup is growing, have also decreased. This means there's less money going into startups overall, especially in the medium to large-sized deals. Late-stage venture capital investments have been hit hard too. Startups raised nearly USD 8 billion from investors this year, marking a 50% decrease from FY 22-23. As per the Ministry of Commerce and Industry data, India is home to 111 unicorns with a total valuation of USD 349.67 billion. Out of the total number of unicorns, 45 unicorns with a total valuation of USD 102.30 billion were born in 2021 and 22 unicorns with a total valuation of USD 29.20 billion born in 2022. In 2023 only one unicorn emerged. India houses 1.7 lakh registered Startups, collectively generating over 1.2 million jobs. Maharashtra leads with 5801 Startups, followed by Delhi NCR with 3150, Karnataka with 3032, and Tamil Nadu with 2810 Startups. This slowdown in funding isn't just in one area of investment. Both private investment and venture capital funding have taken a hit, especially after the surge seen in 2021-2022 during the pandemic. Angel investors, who usually support startups in the early stages, are putting more money in, but they're choosing fewer startups to back. On the other hand, venture capital deals have also dropped by half in FY24 from the previous year. According to the report, consumer-focused sectors and technology are facing the most caution from investors. These sectors are experiencing a big drop in the number of deals and the total amount of money. But the industrial and materials sectors are staying steady, while others like financial services and healthcare are doing better. Investors, especially in the tech sector have declined. They want to see profits and realistic values before investing. This caution has led to almost half the amount of money being invested in the tech sector compared to before. Similar decreases are seen in consumer staples and discretionary companies as investors look for safer bets. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu are the top five states to attract substantial investments by private equity funds. In terms of cities, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Pune are the top cities that attracted maximum PE investments. However, the investments in FY24 is up to 30 per cent less as compared to FY23 in most of the states. The experts have attributed the decline to the reduced investment in Indian Startups. Mumbai has surpassed India's silicon city Bengaluru in attracting PE funds as Startup funding has substantially lowered in FY24.

PFRDA hosts round table meeting to promote National Pension System adoption among corporates

PUNE: In a bid to raise awareness about the National Pension System (NPS) among corporates, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) organized a Round Table Meeting on Friday, in Pune. Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs) from 20 selected corporates based in Pune participated in the event. The National Pension System (NPS) was introduced for all central government employees (excluding armed forces) joining the workforce on or after January 1, 2004. Many state/UT governments have also adopted NPS for their new employees. Since May 1, 2009, NPS has been open to all Indian citizens on a voluntary basis, including those in the corporate sector. The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched on June 1, 2015, for unorganized sector workers. As of April 27, 2024, the total subscribers of NPS and APY exceed 7.38 crores, with total Assets Under Management (AUM) reaching 11.80 lakh crore. The number of subscribers in the private sector, including corporates, exceeds 55 lakhs, with an AUM crossing 2.29 lakh crore. The primary objective of these meetings is to engage with corporations and encourage them to adopt NPS or enhance its penetration by educating them about retirement planning, corporate NPS benefits, including tax incentives for employers and employees, and financial wellness. This initiative aims to extend the benefits of the National Pension System in the formal private sector, aligning with the government's broader objective of establishing a pensioned society by 2047. Currently, there are 16,060 corporates enrolled in NPS, collectively accounting for 19.68 lakh subscribers nationwide. In Maharashtra alone, 5,227 corporates are registered, contributing to a total of 2.94 lakh subscribers. Among these, 876 corporates are based in Pune, with a combined subscriber count of 0.73 lakh. The keynote speaker for the event was Deepak Mohanty, Chairman of PFRDA. He emphasized the urgent issues associated with an aging society and increasing life expectancy, stressing the critical need for adequate pension coverage. Mohanty further highlighted that relying solely on one social security scheme is insufficient for building a robust retirement corpus. He elaborated on the efficiency, transparency, and returns offered by the National Pension System (NPS). He urged corporates to consider adopting NPS to provide a platform for employees to join NPS and further, also to educate and nudge them to increase the uptake rate of NPS in corporates. Arvind Laddha, President of Mercer India, addressed the audience and stressed the importance of retirement planning, how it helps in supporting post-retirement financial well-being and encouraged attendees to learn about the benefits of NPS. Other notable speakers included Sumit Kumar, Chief General Manager at PFRDA, Bahroze Kamdin, Partner at Deloitte India, and Jyotsna Tiwari, Associate Director at Mercer. The speakers covered topics such as Retirement Benefits Planning, features and advantages of Corporate NPS, and Tax benefits under NPS. The session also included an interactive segment with corporates to decode contracting challenges for onboarding NPS and its implementation.

The INT 650 is so smooth higher up in the revs as well, that sometimes I was riding in 5th, and then noticed that I still had another upshift left. So I hope, RE offers this with their updated meters on the newer models.Love looking at the needles. Hard on the throttle, nothing more satisfying than watching the speed & RPM needle climb. And the dials look good to me.Riding posture for me, my height of 5'8''; no problem at all. At times I feel that the tank is LONG, when I look down. It makes me wonder does this make me sit too far? But the posture, I find nothing wrong with it.It does heat up at slow speeds. No denying that fact.End up kicking the left bend pipe often while trying to get the side stand down. Not even once have I used the USB charging yet. I must at least try to see if it is functional.Ceat Tyres - HORRIBLE. Not enough grip for fast cornering. Forget corners, while riding at 80-90 kmph, I once encountered a very very small wet patch. The tyre went sliding for a split second. Experience helped me maintain the line, but a scary moment for sure. Especially when you have no traction control. RE must surely reconsider the rubber. These Ceats, I will plan to change soon.Headlight looks good, when you look at it. The illumination at night, very poor.Mileage, around 27 kmpl. Not bad at all. Including slow crawls, high revving speeds and cruising too. Satisfied.Brakes surprised me. Even with the weight, I now have enough confidence to put the anchors down. Decent bite for my riding style. On Sundays, we bikers spend thousands of rupees. Why? To ride our motorcycle for hours. Food cost is almost 10-20% of fuel cost. But worth it. Every single time. Most of you here on this post, might have seen the Tanners Pride custom leather tank protector. It went flying off at triple-digit speeds. Thank god it did not hit someone else riding behind. Never going the magnetic route ever again. This was my first and last time. And this, while flying off, or when I picked it back and placed it on the tank; HAS SCRATCHED THE TANK. So it has defeated the whole purpose. Tamhini Ghat route is so beautiful. It was raining last weekend around Pune. So we got lovely weather throughout this section. Even after having seen that scratched tank, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The bike kept flowing smoothly, and the AEW 102s kept playing some sweet music. I can never get tired of this. My dad owned a Yezdi Roadking when I was a kid. I guess I have had a thing for twin pipes since then. Looks iconic. Or maybe, twin pipes look right (symmetry). Also noticed, the number plate mounting is crooked. Need to fix it soon. Mesh gear always. Summer or winter. This is my Rynox set. My other RevIt is also maximum mesh. So, here's the heartbreaking bit from Sunday. Scratches on the tank. 2-3 spots like these. I think I had tears in my helmet when I saw this. The cut was deep. So no amount of detailing could resolve this. So had to go the PPF way. Not my thing. But no choice. Got a black PPF. Surprisingly, it matches the colour 100%. But, one will always notice the PPF cut / edge line. Which again, troubles my OCD. Before I placed the magnetic tank cover, I had also ordered this unit from Sahara Seats. So this is a placeholder, to ensure that I don't spot those PPF cuts easily. The PPF is cut wider than this cover, so the cover does not damage the paint. My friends say I have gone crazy. More to follow, about how I maintain my tank. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.

Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case: DU professor Hany Babu withdraws bail plea in SC

NEW DELHI: Delhi University's associate professor Hany Babu on Friday withdrew from the Supreme Court his plea seeking bail in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. A bench of Justices Bela Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal took note of the submission of of the lawyer appearing for Babu, who said five other co-accused have been granted bail in the case. The counsel for the petitioner states that there is a change in the circumstance and would not like to press the present petition and approach the high court, the bench noted. The top court had earlier sought a response from the Maharashtra government and the NIA on his plea against an order of the Bombay High Court which rejected his bail plea. The high court on September 19, 2022 had rejected the bail plea filed by Babu. The NIA, which is conducting a probe into the case, has accused Babu of being a co-conspirator in propagating Maoist activities and ideology on the instructions of leaders of the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation. Babu was arrested in July 2020 in the case and is currently lodged at the Taloja prison in Navi Mumbai. The case relates to alleged inflammatory speeches delivered at the Elgar Parishad conclave, held in Shaniwarwada in Pune on December 31, 2017, which police claimed triggered violence the next day near the Koregaon Bhima war memorial located on the city's outskirts. One person was killed and several others were injured in the violence. The case, in which over a dozen activists and academicians had been named accused, was initially probed by the Pune Police and later taken over by the NIA. Babu approached the HC in June this year, challenging an order of the special NIA court here which rejected his bail plea earlier this year. Babu, in his plea, had said the special court had erred in holding that there existed prima facie incriminating material against him. The NIA had opposed the bail plea, arguing Babu actively participated in activities to promote Naxalism and wanted to overthrow the government.

Reading cinema

KOCHI: Every film is a foreign film, foreign to some audience, somewhere around the world. It is through subtitles that an audience can experience different languages and cultures. And behind every foreign film that brings a culture to a viewer is a subtitler. These lines are from the short documentary The Invisible Subtitler. And yes, through subtitles we not only follow the plot but also the people and their lives beyond the screen. Whether its a French art film, a Mexican series, or a Hollywood action thriller, subtitles offer more than just a translation these one-inch strips of text at the bottom of the screen serve as a tool for cultural immersion, letting us explore, understand, and connect with worlds beyond our own. However, there lies one challenge. Not everyone in a multilingual country like India can read the rapidly scrolling English letters. The solution? Regional subtitles. The origin of regional subtitles traces back to 1993 when Doordarshan began adding them to movies from the Indian Panorama and broadcasting them. We had movies with English subtitles at the beginning. The regional subtitling practice was initially adopted in states like Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. We did it with the help of The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) during the 1980s, says Baiju Chandran, senior journalist and retired director of programmes at Doordarshan. In the late 1990s, Doordarshan began incorporating subtitles in various other regional languages, including Malayalam. The NFDC utilised the LIPS software (The CDAC developed the Language Independent Program Subtitles in Pune)to create regional subtitles, says Lakshmy Narayanan, one of the earlier subtitlers at NFDC. As a result, local channels in their respective languages could select the appropriate language for subtitles alongside the movies. Money Heist, Spanish series However, in Kerala, the scene is a bit different. Its the film societies and amateur groups that have been crafting Malayalam subtitles. The beginning follows thus: In October 2012, a group of movie enthusiasts from the Facebook film groupCinema Paradiso Clubembarked on a remarkable journey by producing Malayalam subtitles for MajidMajidis film Children of Heaven. The idea was led initially by members of the club, Sreejith Parippai and Gokul Dinesh. It took us three days to finish the task. We watched the movie with the English subtitles on. Yes, our subtitle had several mistakes and we didnt concentrate on decoding any cultural references or humour. Our motive was purely on introducing the thought to movie buffs and later grow the initiative according to peoples interest, says Sreejith. For the duo, the inspiration to make foreign content accessible to people from all walks of life came from a few articles. Especially, the articles published in periodicals discussing Malayalam subtitles by C S Venkiteswaran. Also, the successful efforts of Irumpanam School in creating subtitles for students was another turning point, says Sreejith. He is speaking about a film club at Irumpanam Vocational Higher Secondary School in Ernakulam, which screened Akira KursawasDreams with Malayalam subtitles for the students. This was way back in 2010. The initiative was the brainchild of their Malayalam teacher, Sanal Kumar. After releasing the first movie with subtitles on Cinema Paradiso ClubsFacebook page, Sreejith and Gokul were dissatisfied with its low reach. We recognised the need for a dedicated platform beyond the regular social media. So, we established a blog and formed a group called M-SONE (Malayalam Subtitles for Everyone). Many from the Cinema Paradiso Club also joined the blog, says Sreejith. C S Venkiteswaran M-SONE has now released 3,331 movies with Malayalam subtitles. All thanks to a team of 597 translators. The members claim that the total subtitle count may be over 7,000 if series episodes are also counted. Now anyone can contribute subtitles to movies. The earlier members of the group serve as the admins and they cross-check and verify the subtitles, adds Sreejith. Its not an easy task, especially since one is doing it out of pure passion. One such person, Ameya Shaji (name changed) has been a contributing member of M-SONE for a while now. According to her, dependingon the duration of the movie and the time she has in hand, it would take at least three to one week to provide subtitles for a movie. Most subtitlers use a software called Subtitle Edit. However, they dont just translate words literally, they analyse the dialogue in each scene to capture the full meaning without losing the core message. The software will have timestamps and the subtitler will translate the dialogues and save it asa.srtfile, Ameya explains the process. The groups subtitle collection is available on their website for all to download. Malayalam subtitles are not restricted to these online groups. The Open Frame Film Society, Payyanur, has also been at the forefront of promoting cinema through Malayalam subtitles. Their efforts have resulted in subtitling approximately 50 classic movies, including Hiroshima Mon Amour, Charulatha, Knife in theWater, TokyoStory and Death byHanging. It has completed three hundred other films too. P Premachandran, a higher secondary Malayalam teacher and a member of the film society, says the efforts have eased language barriers. When we organise film festivals, the older population can understand the craft better if we add Malayalam subtitles. In one such workshop, critic K F Mathews pointed out that he could acquire deeper knowledgeof the 1956 film Night In Fog, thanks to the subtitles, he says. Also, many older people drop by the Payyanur film festival as they dont want to miss out on experiencing a foreign movie in their mother tongue. Plans are now afoot at the society for its 9th Film Festival. Premachandran says the societys efforts have also facilitated the screening of academic films with Malayalam subtitles in many schools across Kerala, says Premachandran. He says, Malayalam subtitles is a way to introduce school children to world cinema. With subtitle files that are in WhatsApp groups to introduce classics and film related to education to young children. Afterall, cinema is also a tool for education, he smiles. The challenges Malayalam subtitling groups grapple with ethical dilemmas, and one of the most prominent issues is piracy. Interestingly, the acceptance of Malayalam subtitles owes much to the availability of foreign films on platforms like Telegram and Torrents. The audience for Malayalam subtitles often overlaps with those who consume pirated content. Another significant challenge faced by subtitlers lies in translating profanity. Rendering them into Malayalam without offending the audience is no small feat, especially as the viewers include schoolchildren to older audiences. Sreejith discusses another aspect double translation. Foreign films undergo double translation when rendered into Malayalam.Subtitlers, who are often unfamiliar with the original text, rely on English subtitles for their translations. And that means the authenticity and originality of the text is questionable. During this process of double translation, numerous words and meanings are inevitably lost, Sreejith says. Diversity in captions National award-winning film critic C S Venkiteswaran, however, ponits to an interesting phenomenon. There are several versions of Malayalam subtitles available for the same movie reflecting different dialects or slang. Hence, viewers from various regions in Kerala can select the version that truly speaks to them. Its all about the abundance of choices. Providing ample options ensures that viewers can find the one that suits their preferences, he says. Rajeev Ramachandran, a senior journalist and audio-visual translator, emphasises the importance of subtitles with closed captions and audio descriptions. Closed captions enhance inclusivity by providing a cinematic experience for the hearing impaired. However, modern cinema extends beyond mere dialogue it encompasses scenes, actions, and the audio track, all of which significantly contribute to the narrative. For me, closed captioning is akin to translating a visual and auditory cinematic concept into a different language, he says.

Supriya's victory will reduce support for Modi by one MP in Parliament: Sharad Pawar

PUNE: Nationalist Congress Party (SP) president Sharad Pawar has said that victory for his daughter Supriya Sule, his party's Lok Sabha candidate from Baramati, would reduce support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi by one MP in Parliament. Campaigning on Thursday for Sule in Pune district's Purandar tehsil, which comes under the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, he also flayed the BJP over farmers' issues. Three-term MP Sule is pitted against NCP candidate Sunetra Pawar, her sister-in-law and wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. We have given candidature to Supriya Sule so press the button next to her name on EVM in the election (on May 7). Your vote will not only determine her victory, but ensure that there is one more MP who is not supporting Modi, the senior Pawar said. The former Union agriculture minister said under the BJP government at the Centre, the condition of farmers has become miserable. If we want to change the scenario and have a farmers-centric approach in policymaking, then change needs to be brought, he said. The veteran political claimed the BJP-led dispensation is not in favour of giving remunerative prices to farmers for their agricultural products.

Maha plan as Maha Vikas Aghadi holds joint rallies to counter PM's brisk campaign

MUMBAI: The Maha Vikas Aghadi has started holding joint rallies for Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra in a bid to counter the impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modis brisk campaign in the state. Organising rallies at the same places where the PM addressed meetings, the opposition alliance is raising local issues and failures of the Modi government. The MVA has lined up a mega plan of Utara Sabha (dilute rallies) in an attempt to neutralise the Modi impact, alliance leaders said. PM Modi had addressed nine rallies in 2019 but this time he has already addressed a dozen meets in the state and the number may go up to 18 till the end of the elections, BJP leaders said. The MVA has held rallies in Amaravati, Solapur, Pune, and Kolhapur soon after Modi hit the campaign trail in those places. In the MVA joint rallies, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar are the star campaigners, besides Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat and AAPs Sanjay Singh. We are keeping our campaign rallies focused on state issues and injustice done to me and Sharad Pawar with the breaking of their parties, Thackeray said. He said Modi made tall promises, such as crediting Rs 10 lakh to each persons bank account, doubling farmers' income and MSP, but in the last 10 years his government failed to deliver on them. If Modi comes again, then it will be the last elections. They will also replace the Constitution because of BJPs hatred towards Maharashtra and BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, Thackeray said. BJP leaders have trashed the INDIA blocs allegation about a plan to change the Constitution. In the joint rallies, Pawar is focusing on farmers issues and reminding people of farm loan waiver during his tenure in the UPA government.
