Canada incidents mostly due to their internal politics: Jaishankar

Bhubaneswar: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said what is happening in poll-bound Canada over the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar is mostly due to their internal politics and nothing to do with India. Jaishankar said this while replying to a question on why Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is criticizing India. While interacting with senior journalists during a visit here, he also said the country needs a strong and active Prime Minister like Narendra Modi in order to bring further reforms in various sectors to make a Viksit Bharat (developed India). India's image globally is now actually much much higher than it had been ever Canada is an exception. You see the different country heads are praising Bharat and its Prime Minister, the external affairs minister said. He said a section of pro-Khalistan people are using Canada's democracy, creating a lobby and have become a vote bank. The ruling party in Canada has no majority in Parliament and some parties depend on pro-Khalistan leaders, he said. We have convinced them several times not to give visa, legitimacy or political space to such people which is causing problems for them (Canada), for us and also for our relationship, Jaishankar said. But the Canadian government has not done anything, Jaishankar said, adding that India sought the extradition of 25 people, most of whom are pro-Khalistan, but they did not pay any heed. The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September last year of the potential involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Nijjar. India has dismissed Trudeau's charges as absurd and motivated. Canada did not give any proof. They do not share any evidence with us in certain cases, police agencies also do not cooperate with us. It is their political compulsion in Canada to blame India. As election is coming in Canada, they indulge in vote bank politics, the external affairs minister said. He said the Indian Prime Minister is regarded highly by many country heads. Recently, the prime minister of a Pacific country touched the feet of Modi while the Australian PM calls Modi as Boss. Even (US) President Biden wanted to know the secret of Modi's popularity, Jaishankar said.

BRS Bike Rally Supports Malkajgiri Candidate

Hyderabad: The BRS held a huge bike rally in Uppal, Boduppal and Peerjadiguda on Saturday in support of its Malkajgiri candidate Ragidi Laxma Reddy. Medchal MLA Chamakura Malla Reddy took part in the rally along with hundreds of party workers. The rally, which received a huge response from the people, started at Medipally and went through Chengicherla Road, Boduppal, Peerjadiguda to Boduppal, Ambedkar Chowrastha, Chilakanagar Road. Along the way, there were slogans of Jai KCR.. Jai Telangana, and Jai Mallanna.. Jai Lakshmanna.. Laxma Reddy highlighted the development programmes undertaken by previous BRS government in the Malkajgiri constituency, including Uppal, such as Metro Rail, flyovers and skyways, and appealed to voters to elect him as MP with a good majority. He said that only the BRS would safeguard the interests of Telangana state and Hyderabad and he would raise the issues concerning them in Parliament and try to secure more funds from the Centre. Corporation mayors, deputy mayors, and corporators, former corporators, party presidents, senior leaders of BRS party, activists participated in large numbers in the bike rally.

NETA NATTER | 2024 ELECTIONS, A TALE OF DONKEYS AND CROWS?

Crows in Telangana better watch out. TPCC president and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy the other day declared that even if a crow from the BRS wants to land on a Congress wall, his party workers would shoot it down. His comments came while countering the BJP narrative that the Congress and the BRS were together and his allusion was to the old Telugu adage on personal rivalries and how crows from one house wont even land on the home of a rival. Swooping down on Revanths comments, BRS leader T. Harish Rao declared that the CM had nothing much to crow about after having admitted a slew of BRS leaders into his party, and even giving them tickets to contest the LS polls. What you allowed to land in your territory are eagles and kites. Be careful about them, was Harishs advice to Revanth. Now that they appear to have been done with birds, the Congress has launched a new campaign evoking donkeys with its Gadida Guddu campaign, playing again on how the BJP government at the Centre gave nothing to Telangana. Of course, donkeys dont lay eggs, and just as that has never happened, all that the BJP has given is a non-existent donkeys egg, is the Congress contention. With just about a week to go for the polls, it remains to be seen if anymore of Gods creatures will make it to the political shoot-outs now on in Telangana. CANDIDATE THREATENS VOTERS WITH EXPULSION In an electoral season that has seen its fair share of promises, parades, and pandemonium, Mekapati Rajagopal Reddy, YSRC candidate for the Udayagiri Assembly segment, has arguably taken campaigning to a new controversial high. At a recent campaign event in Mulapalle and Shakunalapalle villages, Rajagopal decided to spice things up by issuing a rather medieval edict: Vote for the cycle symbol and find yourself excommunicated from the village. Rajagopals approach to voter persuasion was immediately met with dismay and outrage from villagers, who expressed disbelief at being treated as serfs in their own land. Opposition leaders seized the opportunity, denouncing Reddys threats as an affront to the very foundations of democracy. REVANTH THE CRICKETER TO THE CONGRESS RESCUE Politics in some ways is like cricket. History is replete with last minute googlies from one party bowling the other out. The LS elections, Telangana state Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy appears to have decided, provide the perfect pitch for some hard hitting aimed at the BJP and the BRS. And with the ongoing IPL raising passions, to woo younger voters, Revanth has been talking about how the last Assembly polls were the semi-finals and the Lok Sabha polls the finals. The Congress trounced KCR in the semi-finals last December and will defeat Narendra Modi in the finals on May 13, is his pitch. The CM has also been bowling some beamers at the BRS and the BJP, comparing them with the Bangladesh and Pakistan cricket teams. The Congress defeated Bangladesh in the semi-finals and entered the finals where it will face Pakistan on May 13, indicating just how fierce the battle between the Congress and the BJP is, just like a cricket match between India and Pakistan. Not stopping there, he also says the LS polls are also a match between Telangana and Gujarat teams, adding the state team will duck out Modi and Amit Shah on May 13 and register a grand victory. TD, YSRC CONTINUE WITH THEIR PROMISES Once written manifestos are by no means a legal document with which people can hold political parties accountable, but that does not stop them from going at each other, waving the other sides manifesto and pointing out just how the promises made were not kept. Doing this has been AP Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy who has taken to showing to the public TDs 2014 manifesto, and reading out aloud every promise TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu failed to fulfil. The promises by the TD then were impractical, and the ones now are impossible, goes Jagan. For the YSRC manifesto? Jagan says he fulfilled 99 per cent of promises in his partys 2019 manifesto and vows to come up with more welfare and development in the future. Whether the TD, or the YSRC, who the people believe in will all become clear soon enough. BRITISH VS ITALIANS THIS TIME AROUND Whats in a name? Clearly a lot when it comes to taking potshots at one another by political parties amidst the electioneering heat. In other times, too, as the renaming of the TRS as the BRS showed, it lost some of its sheen as the party that stands up for the state. That aside, the campaigning has shown that if left to themselves, leaders will play on acronyms of party names and try to reap political benefit as is being witnessed in Telangana. The other day, after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called the BJP British Janata Party, BJP state president and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy hit back calling the Indian National Congress, the Italian National Congress. And so it goes FROM KAPU TO REDDY IN ONE ELECTION? Senior Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham often makes puzzling statements, leaving those around him scratching their heads. The other day, he said if he cannot defeat Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan in the Assembly elections, he will change his name to Padmanabha Reddy leaving many from the Reddy community wondering what was up with the Kapu leader. However, some Kapus who expressed support to Pawan Kalyan, commented that Padmanabham can call himself whatever he wants, and issue meaningless challenges but cannot defeat the Jana Sena chief. ONLY RICH CAN CONTEST THESE DAYS: SRIBHARAT Can cash carry an election? Or rather, how rich should a candidate be to contest and have hopes of winning? The answer to this was provided, sort of, by M. Sribharat, the TDs MP candidate from Visakhapatnam, who also found himself in hot water after his remarks at a speech on Viksit Bharat that were made in the presence of Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, a poll ally. Addressing students, Bharat implied that one needs substantial financial resources to run for a Lok Sabha seat and cited Sitharamans absence from the electoral fray as an example. He remarked that he, unfortunately or fortunately, was contesting the 2024 elections because of this financial factor. The comments unfortunately for the man have not gone down well within his party. FUTURE UNCERTAIN THANKS TO POLITICAL MIGRATION Friends? Enemies? Frenemies? Leaders from the BJP, Congress and the BRS in the erstwhile unified Adilabad district are a confused lot these days what with migrations from one party to another by leaders and their followers leaving the long-timers in such parties wondering what their future or roles will be. Some leaders and former MLAs are clearly a frustrated lot with their political enemies joining their parties, while others are happy to see their enemies leave their political homes and go to another with little impact on their own prospects. All the migrants are wondering if they did the right thing as they are not receiving the kind of support they expected from the long-timers in the parties they joined recently. The latest such instance is that of former minister A. Indrakaran Reddy who joined the Congress after quitting the BRS, leaving Nirmal district Congress president K. Srihari Rao gnashing his teeth in frustration. HOT SUN PLAYS SPOILSPORT THIS ELECTION Step out into the open and the searing sun hits you. The heat from the previous day still hangs over the air like a heavy blanket. Campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls this summer is proving a challenge for political parties and their candidates, with the latter literally sweating it out every day. Public meetings are sought to be completed by 11 am, something that was not heard of in the past. Candidates from various parties in Nizamabad, setting their political differences aside, have urged the ECI to allow campaigning after the 10 pm deadline, and are keeping their fingers crossed hoping the ECI would hear their plea. PM Modis 10 Years of Reign Has Laid a Strong Foundation for Viksit Bharat

Bhubaneswar: External affairs minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Saturday said the past ten years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a phase of laying a strong foundation for making India a strong nation and the next five years will be dedicated to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat in the next 25 years which is now known as Amrit Kaal. In 2014, Narendra Modi sought five years for BJP to serve the nation. As Prime Minister he delivered on all fronts starting from salvaging the nation from an utter state of despair to hope and aspiration. People of all sections were taken up. Country made progress on all sectors and an economy boomed. People appreciated PM Modis performances and blessed him with another term in 2019. Now, after 10 years, peoples trust in him has doubled and they have reposed faith in his leadership to take the country on the path of progress to reach our goal of Viksit Bharat, he said during an interaction with editors of different newspapers and television channels. Speaking on the foreign policy of India, Jaishankar said India is playing the role of a peace-broker across the globe as the world leaders trust the country's leadership. Now, you see turmoil in different parts of the world. The Russia-Ukraine war, the tension in Gaza following the terrorist attack on Israel and the more recent Israel-Iran conflicts have created tensions in those regions, besides affecting the world order. However, during such critical times, whenever leaders of all these countries have looked to India to play its role to ease the tension, our country has obliged in the best possible manner, said the minister. Stating that Indias foreign policy was on the right track, Jaishankar said the country had succeeded in asserting itself in the global platform as one of the forward-looking countries. On the strained relationship with Canada, Jaishankar said, Our relationship with Canada and its Prime Minister is not the same as with other nations. You can see Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as an exception. Whats the reason? Some people who profess Khalistani ideology have made use of that democracy and formed a lobby and vote bank. Some parties in Canada, some parties in that country feel that if they maintain good relationships with these people, it will benefit. Its all about vote bank politics in Canada. Now, the matter is more serious because the Trudeau government lacks a majority in the parliament. The leaders of other political parties on whom Trudeau is dependent are pro-Khalistani. The minister said though India wrote to Canada for extradition of 25 Khalistani leaders, the latter did not take any action on that. To a query, Jaishankar said Odisha should have a BJP government to carry forward the development of the Narendra Modi government. I concur what Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently said that Odisha has not progressed much in the past two decades despite it having huge mineral resources. We need to have a young person with a sharp outlook to lead the state, he observed. Jaishankar is currently on a two-day trip to Odisha to interact with the intellectuals, journalists and BJP party workers.

Terrorists Ambush IAF Convoy in J&Ks Poonch; 5 Jawans Injured

SRINAGAR: A heavily armed group of militants on Saturday evening attacked a Stallion 4x4 and another logistic vehicle of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in a remote area of Jammu and Kashmirs frontier Poonch district, injuring five jawans on board. The condition of three of the injured security personnel is stated to be critical. They have been airlifted to the Armys New Command Hospital in the garrison town of Udhampur. A hospital official who spoke with this newspaper on condition of anonymity said, Our doctors are trying their best but the condition of the jawans is such that we all keep our fingers crossed. Please, pray for them. Meanwhile, the Army with Jammu and Kashmir police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has launched a massive operation at and around Shahsitar, an area in Poonchs Surankote sub-division about 15-km from the Line of Control (LoC). The police sources in Poonch said that it is suspected that the attack was carried out by the same group of terrorists which has been involved in a series of such and similar incidents in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in the recent past including December 21, 2023 ambush on the Army vehicles at Bufliaz in which four soldiers were killed and three others injured. A police official said that the Ashok Leyland STALLION 4X4 Mk IV, a general service logistic vehicle used by both the Indian Army and IAF to operate in tough terrains under adverse weather conditions, and another vehicle which were part of an IAF convoy came under a sneak attack at around 6.30 pm. IAF wrote on microblogging site X, An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of J&K, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are underway presently in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is under progress. The police sources said that the convoy was moving towards the Sanai Top, a strategic area, when attacked. A report, yet not confirmed by the authorities, said that a gunfight broke out between the security forces and the militants in the nearby Gursai woods following the sneak attack. Poonch is part of the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency where the polling was scheduled to be held in the third phase of elections on May 7 but was amid recent torrential rains and fresh snowfalls deferred till May 25 by the Election Commission of India, citing various logistic, communication and natural barrier of connectivity as the reason. Last month, militants shot dead a J&K government employee Muhammad Razaq who was a brother of a Territorial Army jawan, in Kunda Top village of the Shahdra area of neighbouring Rajouri district. Days after the gruesome incident, a Village Defence Guard (VDG) Muhammad Sharief was killed in a militant attack on a joint part of the J&K police and the VDGs in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district. Following these incidents, the J&K police had released pictures of two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) cadres, including suspected Pakistani national Abu Hamza, who, it said, were involved in the murder of Mr. Razaq and announced a cash reward of 10 lakh on his head. Meanwhile, an Army vehicle skilled off the road and fell in a deep gorge at Batagund in the Verinag area of the Kashmir Valleys southern Anantnag district earlier during the day on Saturday. One Army jawan was killed and nine others were injured in the mishap, a police spokesman said here. He denied reports circulated through social media that the vehicle belonging to the Armys 19 Rashtriya Rifle came under an attack by militants resulting in the casualties. The Anantnag police said in a statement, Some social media platforms have circulated news that terrorists have attacked an Army vehicle at Batagund top, Dooru which is totally baseless. We would like to clarify that it was not a terrorist attack but an unfortunate Accident. The statement added, The vehicle carrying Army personnel lost control and skidded off the road resulting in injuries to them including the unfortunate death of one Army personnel. General public is requested not to pay any heed to such rumours. Rumour mongers will be dealt strictly according to law.

Confident in Chevella Showdown Against Konda Vishweshwar Reddy: Gaddam Ranjith Reddy

Congress Chevella candidate Gaddam Ranjith Reddy said that his direct contest was with Konda Vishweshwar Reddy of the BJP for the May 13 polls. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Ranjith Reddy said he was going to the people with a 'positive agenda,' seeking votes on the basis of good work done by him in the past five years. He said he was confident of winning by a bigger margin than in 2019. Excerpts: Q: Why do you say you are in a straight contest? A: It was Konda Vishweshwar Reddy who posed the challenge. He said he would not seek votes on the name of the BJP or Prime Minister Narendra Modi and challenged me not to seek votes on the name of Congress or Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He said let us fight face to face. I accepted his challenge. Q How can you dismiss the BRS, which won the Chevella Lok Sabha polls twice? It was Telangana sentiment that gave the BRS victory in 2014. In 2019, the BRS had the ruling party advantage, and KCR saying he would play a key role in national politics. This time, the BRS has no narrative. It is losing its leaders and cadres at a much faster pace than anticipated. Q: Why did you quit the BRS? I was forced to make this difficult decision due to the changed political circumstances. I never thought that the BRS would lose the Assembly polls so badly. The BRS asked me to contest from Chevella again but my surveys showed that it stood no chance. The surveys indicated a Revanth wave in Chevella. There was pressure on me from my supporters to contest the election. Respecting their feelings, I decided to join the Congress as I did not want to taste defeat on a BRS ticket. Q: The BRS has termed you an 'opportunist' and a 'political sunflower.' I will answer this question if I was the only one to change parties. Leaders change parties for different reasons. Moreover, I did not change parties in the middle of my tenure as MP. I changed my party after the EC issued poll notification. It was to avoid defeat and continue to serve the people for another five years. Q: It is said that your entry has not gone down well with local Congress leaders and workers and that they are cooperating with you? This is a false propaganda unleashed by my rivals. I have maintained cordial relations with all local leaders and workers in Chevella. I used to hear their issues and address them. When I moved to the Congress, I was surprised to see the overwhelming response from party leaders and workers who welcomed me with open arms. Q: You say you are seeking a 'positive vote' based on your performance? What work have you done as MP? The condition of roads was bad, especially in villages and interior areas. I ensured proper road connectivity from village to mandals and mandals to district headquarters. I improved infrastructure in government schools, primary health care centres and government hospitals. The shifting of Chevella zone from Rangareddy to Mahbubnagar district for government recruitment as part of KCR's new zonal system had made it difficult for the youth to secure jobs. I got it restored to Rangareddy district. Abolishing GO 111 was another achievement. This was the demand of all the three political parties and the people. Irrigation works were another achievement. National Highway works have been sanctioned. The Chevella bus stand was renovated for the first time after 1970. We constructed a stadium and I paid Rs 50 lakh from my pocket. The free diagnostic ambulance goes around Chevella for health check-ups in rural areas. People get free treatment at my hospital. I donated TVs to every gram panchayat office to facilitate government students to attend online classes during the Covid pandemic, when schools were shut for several months in 2020 and 2021. Q: You say your victory is a foregone conclusion. What victory margin are you expecting? I don't make claims like Konda that my opponents will not retain their deposits. I can certainly say that my margin will be higher than the 14,000-vote majority which I had secured against Konda in 2019.

MP LS Polls: In 2 LS Constituencies in MP, Raja Saheb Digvijay and Maharaj Scindia Fight for Pride

Bhopal: It is fight for pride for Congress veteran Digvijay Singh and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in their respective Lok Sabha constituencies of Rajgarh and Guna in Madhya Pradesh, in this poll. For, they are yet to come to terms with the ignominious defeat they had suffered in their respective constituencies in the last LS polls and a win this time would alone salvage their pride. Two-time chief minister Mr Singh, famously known as Raja of Raghogarh, had lost to BJPs Pragya Singh Thakur, a greenhorn in politics then, in Bhopal LS seat in 2019 by a margin of over 3.60 lakh, leaving him stunned. Mr Singh, in fact, was taken aback when he was declared a candidate for his home turf, Rajgarh, by Congress. At this age, it is beyond my capacity to contest polls. Congress workers will fight the poll for me in every booth, 77-year-old Mr Singh had said while addressing his first meeting of Congress workers in Rajgarh after he was declared the candidate by the party. Since then, he has been campaigning in the nook and corner of the constituency, mostly by holding foot marches, a traditional Congress style of campaigning, local journalist Arun Srivastav said. It was no easy task for Mr Singh to reconnect to the people in his home constituency since he last fought the polls in this seat in 1991. He is now working hard not only to reconnect to his old acquaintances, some of whom have grown too old to recollect the past memory, but also to the younger generation by reminding them of his acquaintances with their parents and grandparents. Pehchanteho mujhe? has been his pet question to his electorates, old and young, when he campaigns in their areas. He also reminds them that it may be his last election. Mr Singh first contested from the Rajgarh LS seat in 1984 and won the polls. He however lost the polls in the seat in 1989 and then retained it in 1991 LS polls. He is pitted against incumbent MP in the constituency Rodmal Nagar of BJP. Stakes are also high for Mr Scindia in this poll in Guna LS constituency, which has remained with his family for the past 37 years barring in 2019 polls when he suffered a shocking defeat from BJPs K P Yadav, once his close aide. Mr Scindia has focused on the seat soon after November, 2023 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh were over. He is seen connecting with his electorate by invoking his familys long association with them, besides projecting the developmental works he has undertaken in the constituency. Yadav community forms the sizable population in the constituency. BJP has deployed chief minister Mohan Yadav and the former MP Mr Yadav to campaign for Mr Scindia to placate the Yadav community after denial of ticket to the sitting MP. BJP has also carpet bombed the constituency with its star campaigners such as Union home minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, former Union minister Uma Bharti, and former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

TMC shares video accusing Suvendu of 'orchestrating' Sandeshkhali incidents, BJP calls it 'fake'

KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday released a video via social media, alleging that the incidents in Sandheshkhali were a BJP conspiracy to malign West Bengal before the Lok Sabha polls. In the purported video, a man who identifies himself as the BJP mandal president in Sandeshkhali is heard saying that Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, is behind the whole conspiracy. The man in the video alleges that Adhikari directed him and other BJP leaders in the area to instigate three to four local women to make rape allegations against three TMC leaders, including Shahjahan Sheikh . In the video, the man claimed that Adhikari himself had planted guns at a house in Sandeshkhali, which was subsequently portrayed as a seizure by central agencies. Notably, the authenticity of the video posted by the TMC has not been verified. Sharing the video via X, the TMC wrote: From mass rape to arms seizure, every claim was bought and staged by none other than Suvendu Adhikari and accused the BJP of leaving o stone unturned to malign Bengal. And quoting the party's post, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote: The shocking Sandeshkhali sting shows how deep the rot is within the BJP. In their hatred for Bengal's progressive thought & culture, the Bangla-Birodhis orchestrated a conspiracy to defame our state on every possible level. Never before in the history of India has a ruling party in Delhi tried to malign an entire state and its people. The shocking Sandeshkhali sting shows how deep the rot is within the BJP. In their hatred for Bengal's progressive thought & culture, the Bangla-Birodhis orchestrated a conspiracy to defame our state on every possible level. Never before in the history of India has a ruling https://t.co/50QUParP16 Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) May 4, 2024 The cat is out of the bag. The sinister plot of Modi-Shah, central agencies and their allies stands exposed, the TMC said, apparently referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Senior TMC leader Abhisekh Banerjee claimed on Saturday that the video vindicated the TMC's stand that the saffron party was behind the incidents. In the press conference, Banerjee, who is considered number two in the TMC, alleged that to create grounds for the imposition of Article 355 in Bengal, Adhikari orchestrated the entire incident in Sandeshkhali. Banerjee asserted that the honour of Bengali women were compromised by such allegations in Sandeshkhali, which he believes are aimed at maligning the state. I never thought the politics of Bengal would stoop so low to get votes. We have been saying from day one that a shameless attempt was made to malign Bengal ahead of the elections, he said. Shri @abhishekaitc vehemently criticised the Godi Media's spineless sensationalism, turning manufactured narratives into a spectacle to tarnish Bengal's image. He condemned the Judiciary for its biased favoritism towards the BJP! #SandeshkhaliExposed pic.twitter.com/h2AGmZTetJ All India Trinamool Congress (@AITCofficial) May 4, 2024 He demanded that the BJP's top leadership apologise for maligning Bengal about Sandeshkhali within 48 hours. The TMC national general secretary also wondered what Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had mentioned Sandeshkhali incidents several times during his election rallies, will say now. In his election rallies across the state, PM Modi has continued to criticise the TMC over what he claimed to be apathy towards the victims in Sandeshkhali, where allegations of sexual abuse surfaced against the party's leaders, including Shahjahan Sheikh. Responding to the TMC's allegations, Adhikari said, It is a fake and doctored video. It seems that the TMC sensed defeat (in the election) and is trying to divert attention. There have been hundreds of complaints by women of Sandeshkhali. BJP spokesman Shankudeb Panda said the TMC was unable to combat the swelling public anger over the Sandeskhlai incident. The TMC is insulting women in Sandeshkhali and Bengal. Its leaders are uploading such a doctored video as it found no other way to combat the charges, he said. (With additional inputs for PTI)
