Uttar Pradesh: Elderly Man Killed, Family Brutally Assaulted During Election Debate

Lucknow: An elderly man named Radheshyam Pathak was murdered during an election debate in the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Shambhu Chaudhary and three others have been accused of the murder. The victim's family members, who tried to save him, were also brutally beaten. The police have filed an FIR against the four accused and have begun an investigation. The incident occurred on Friday (May 10, 2024). According to media reports, the incident happened in the Nebua Naurangiya police station area of Kushinagar. On Friday, in Baghparna village, some people were discussing elections under a tree near a temple. The deceased's family alleges that during the discussion, Shambhu Chaudhary and his companions advocated voting for the Samajwadi Party, while a young man named Amit Pathak argued for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A heated argument broke out between the two groups. Allegedly, Shambhu became angry at the thought of voting for the BJP and insisted that everyone should vote as he said. Some people intervened to calm the situation and sent both groups home. However, it is alleged that on the same night, Shambhu Choudhary and his associates went to Amit Pathak's house. Upon arrival, they abused and then brutally beat Amit's entire family, including his 55-year-old father Radheshyam Pathak and his 21-year-old sister Ritu. Hearing the commotion, neighbors gathered. The victims called the emergency number 112, and when police personnel were seen approaching, the attackers fled, threatening them. The accused have been identified as Shambhu, Sipu, and Tinkle Chaudhary, all of whom are relatives of Shambhu. Amit and Ritu, along with their father Radheshyam, were taken to the hospital. While Amit and Ritu were admitted to the Medical College, Ravindra Nagar, Radheshyam, in critical condition, was referred to Gorakhpur Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries. His body underwent a post-mortem examination. Relatives of the deceased, along with some local residents, staged a protest by placing the bodies in front of the police station, demanding strict action against Shambhu Choudhary and his associates. The police reassured the protesters and explained the situation to them. An FIR has been filed regarding the incident, which is being treated as a mutual dispute. Many organizations have expressed outrage over the murder of Radheshyam Pathak. The accused are currently absconding, and a search operation is underway. Police forces have been deployed in the village due to the tense situation. CM Yogi performs 'Rudrabhishek' on occasion of 'Akshaya Tritiya'

CM Yogi performs 'Rudrabhishek' on occasion of 'Akshaya Tritiya' Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday on the occasion of 'Akshaya Tritiya' offered prayers at Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur. He performed 'Rudrabhishek' at Shakipeeth of Gorakhnath temple with fruit juice and milk. Meanwhile, BJP candidate from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency Ravi Kishan offered prayers at Gorakhnath Temple and performed 'Rudrabhishek' on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Ravi Kishan filed his nomination from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency today. Earlier speaking to ANI he said that he was happy to be contributing to ensuring the BJP wins 400 plus seats in the Lok Sabha elections. I am very blessed that I will be filing my nomination on the day of Akshay Tritya and more so that CM Yogi Adityanath will himself come for the filing of the nomination. I urge all the citizens of Gorakhpur to come and support my nomination as the CM will also be speaking. This will mark an important day in ensuring that PM Modi wins with 400 plus seats and a big majority from the land of Purvanchal. After Varanasi, Gorakhpur is the hottest seat in Uttar Pradesh, he said. Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency is comprised of five Vidhan Sabha seats, including Caimpiyarganj, Pipraich, Gorakhpur Urban, Gorakhpur Rural, and Sahajanwa. Ravi Kishan, a well-known Bhojpuri actor, will run for office again from Gorakhpur, the stronghold of Yogi Adityanath. The current Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath held the seat till 2017. Ravi Kishan won against SP candidate Rambhual Nishad in the 2019 election with a lead of more than 3 lakh votes. The BJP has fielded Ravi Kishan, the representation of the INDIA bloc, and leader of Congress Kajal Nishad contesting from Gorakhpur, while Javed Simnanai will lead BSP. In the 2019 elections, proving all the arithmetic of the SP-BSP 'mahagatbandhan' in Uttar Pradesh wrong, the BJP and its ally Apna Dal(S) won 64 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats. The alliance partners, Akhilesh Yadav's party and Mayawati Party's, won 15 seats. The voting for the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled to take place in the seventh phase on June 1. (ANI)

Will UP's rural voters spring a surprise in this election?

Uttar Pradesh. Of the 23 crore population in India's largest state, nearly 70% or more are estimated to be living in rural areas. By simple logic, the socio-political sentiment in UP's villages then should have a defining impact on the election results here. Building on that argument, since farming is increasingly considered unviable and unprofitable, since rural incomes, rural consumption and expenditure are going down, and since migration to cities is unabated, the results should have gone against the ruling party. Yet, the state was more than kind to the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019 (64 seats for the NDA), despite the fact that rural distress that year was as bad as it is now. Is it all because of free ration, housing and direct benefit transfer? Or did the math go awry because it is simplistic to draw a direct connection between rural distress and election results? The question becomes important as the causes of rural distress such as low income, unviable farming, lack of employment, migration and uncomfortable living conditions have remained unchanged especially for marginalised and small farmers even in 2024. They, and other unskilled or semi-skilled people have been thronging the cities to work as daily wage labourers, domestic helps, or doing odd jobs. But even then, most of them manage to retain their land holding (howsoever small) and do some farming by periodically going to their villages. Migration, one can say, has been a mitigating factor to their distress. But in recent years, those having mid-sized farms and own houses in UPs villages are encountering new challenges such as shortage of farm labourers, the menace of stray cattle and animals, corruption, high-handedness of village level government functionaries, and uneven implementation of welfare schemes. At election time, some of these issues have acquired an urgency that might have impacted the polling in last three phases, and may do so in the rest. Labour shortage The shortage of farm labourers is a problem faced by many farmers, regardless of the size of cultivable land. Many activities that involve the use of manual labour, for which traditionally men and women from the economically weaker sections in villages were hired as required. But over the last few years, the availability of work and money through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has led many people to shun manual farm labour. Also, the direct benefit transfer (DBT) of money for nutrition for expectant mothers, daughters, education, health, pension etc has led to an assured amount reaching them every month. As a result, farming is increasingly becoming difficult -- and less remunerative -- for land owners, unless they have their own manpower to handle the work. This is the story all over UP. As Rameshwar Khare in Mohammadi, near Lakhimpur Kheri says, We have sold off a part of our farm land as there is big shortage of farm labour and we intend to convert the land into something commercial. What are UP's Muslim voters up to in this Lok Sabha election? The land is fertile and he would like to retain the mango orchard as it does not require much tending. In village Baba Baldev Singh Ka Purwa in Barabanki, Dharam Pal says farming on their family land had become difficult as there were no labourers to be found in the season. So, they are planning to put it to some other use as the Purvanchal Expressway passing within a few kilometres might open new opportunities. For those not having commercially viable alternatives, it indeed is a tough call. Stray cattle menace Stray cattle and wild animals continue to be a big problem in most districts. The state government has been very strict about cow protection as a result of which there is an abundance of emaciated stray cattle roaming around. The destruction of standing crops by such animals is aggravated by the state government's order that no barbed wires should be used to fence fields. According to an agency report quoting the 2019 Livestock Census , there are over 1.90 crore cattle in Uttar Pradesh, including 62,04,304 milch cows and 23,36,151 dry cows. There are cow shelters but all are packed to capacity. The stray cattle menace has also added to farmers' economic woes as they do not know what to do with cows that have stopped giving milk. In May 2017, the Centre banned the sale of cattle for slaughter in animal markets across the country. This has led to a serious problem across the state and farmers blame the present government for it. If these grievances run truly deep, the voting behaviour is likely to be impacted. High-handedness Despite digitisation of government work, offices at the tehsil (sub-district) level continue to be hotbeds of corruption, inefficiency and high-handedness. Be it agriculture, Panchayati Raj, electricity, irrigation, land revenue, the junior officers and clerks work as per their convenience and seek favours even for small work. After every election, people expect change but that never comes. If the harassment is blatantly caste- or community-driven, then the sufferers decide to extract their revenge. It was evident in the vote for change in the 2017 Assembly election. Caste factor Caste and regional loyalties continue to play strong roles in socio-political decision-making in villages and will do so in the 2024 election that is a waveless one at the moment and seeing a return to regular politics. Caste tensions, favours done by local politicians and the apprehension of repercussions in case of an unfavourable verdict play upon the minds of the village people. An interesting anecdote in this regard comes from Ballia where local residents say a senior Samajwadi Party leader is helping the campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Neeraj Shekhar, out of deference for the latter's late father, the veteran Chandra Shekhar. Lack of employment Even though MNREGS has been a source of some relief, no substantive employment opportunities have come up in villages. Although self-help groups of women have flourished in many districts and success stories of small businesses being run by women in Ambedkar Nagar, Baghpat, Fatehpur, Lucknow, Gorakhpur have been well known. But, the repeated cancellation of examinations for recruitment to government vacancies following a paper leak, and delay in initiating the process of many other government recruitments has caused widespread resentment among the youth. In an interesting incident, many youths of Ballia had applied for and got government jobs in adjoining Bihar and are giving credit to the RJD-Congress combine that was in government with Nitish Kumar in Bihar then. They and their family members are now canvassing for the Samajwadi Party in UP. The importance of being Akhilesh Yadav in this Lok Sabha election The reduction of opportunity in defence forces because of Agniveer scheme has also angered the youth, says Om Prakash, a farmer in Ballia's Chhitikiya village. The other side If things are indeed so stark, then the sentiment should be against the ruling party all over the state. But it is not so. Undoubtedly, free foodgrains, free toilets, PM rural housing, women SHGs, meals in schools, money for books, copies, stationery, uniforms and socks, pension and insurance money coming into bank accounts have had their impact. Another big factor is that organised crime is now much less of a hazard in the state. The threat of extortion, kidnapping and bonded labour at the hands of criminal gangs has reduced drastically. In its place, crimes of passion and revenge have increased, but that generally does not have a bearing on how the law and order situation is perceived. According to police officials, there used to be crime syndicates in all districts, sometimes more than one in a big district. There has been an organized campaign to neutralise such gangs, and the impact is for all to see, says Vijay Kumar, former Director-General of Police (DGP) who served in this post from May 31, 2023 to January 31, 2024. He adds that there has been a big rise in convictions as well with prosecution being taken seriously. Under 'Operation Conviction' meant to speed up the sentencing process for serious crimes, 3,020 criminals were punished, with 3,000 receiving life imprisonment and 20 receiving the death penalty. Village life may not present the idyllic picture traditionally associated with it, but there are mobile phones in the hands of almost every village-dweller. The youth are engrossed in their screens or making videos to add to their social media feeds. More girls can be seen going to schools, and the desire to earn money by whatever means is perceptible everywhere. The road network in most villages has vastly improved, except for those in remote areas. The electricity supply is not round-the-clock yet, but has improved in last ten years -- the summer shortage notwithstanding. The handpumps continue to be the major source of water supply even as the Jal Jeewan Mission under the National Rural Drinking Water Project (NRDWP) is slowly making an impact. All things considered, community and faith compulsions, freebies, and the acceptability of a strong ruler may actually make voters from UP's villages forget the sources of their distress while pressing the button. The city that is no longer Allahabad

Patna emerges as India's most flood-prone city, reveals recent study

Patna emerges as India's most flood-prone city, reveals recent study Patna experiences the worst floods in India, followed by West Bengal's Murshidabad and Maharashtra's Thane, according to a district-level flood severity index (DFSI) developed by researchers at IIT-Delhi and IIT-Roorkee. The index takes into account the historical severity of floods based on the number of affected people, the spread and duration of floods. The researchers said the top 10 districts where flood severity is the highest are: Patna, Murshidabad, Thane, North 24 Parganas (West Bengal), Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), East Champaran (Bihar), and East Medinipur (West Bengal). These are followed by Muzaffarnagar (Bihar), Lakhimpur (Assam), Kota (Rajasthan), Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Malda (West Bengal), Rajkot (Gujarat), Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Aurangabad (Bihar), Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Jalpaiguri (West Bengal), Darjeeling (West Bengal), Dibrugarh (Assam), Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh), Chamoli (Uttarakhand), West Champaran (Bihar), Amravati (Maharashtra), Medinipur West (West Bengal), and Samastipur (Bihar). Though Chamoli in Uttarakhand does not face recurrent floods, it appears on this list because of a few isolated highly damaging flood events. Among the 30 districts facing the highest risk of floods, 17 are in the Ganga basin and three are in the Brahmaputra basin. Among all the Indian river basins, the Ganga basin has the highest population, and its high flood proneness is worrisome, said the researchers, including Manabendra Saharia, an assistant professor at IIT-Delhi. Assam experiences the highest number of floods in India, having faced more than 800 flood events over 56 years. The other flood-prone states, in descending order of flood events, include Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Data from 1967 to 2023 shows that Thiruvananthapuram has experienced more than 231 floods or more than four events per year on average. Five districts -- Thiruvananthapuram, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Kamrup, and Nagaon -- have been categorised as ''severely flood-prone,'' having recorded more than 178 floods, or more than three events per year on average. The researchers said localised intense rainfall events are likely to rise in the future due to climate change, and therefore, more flash floods are expected. Under the warming climate, the frequency of cyclones will increase, and coastal and nearby inland areas will face more instances of intense rainfall and floods. It is also likely that areas that are not currently flood-prone may begin to see flooding. The researchers said human fatality due to floods is nearly stable or has come down in recent times due to better management despite an increase in the population in India. The number of deaths is around 1,000 per year since 2015, the data showed.

With knack for finding solutions, this innovator builds barriers for rivers

BENGALURU : The world today is overflowing with ideas and concepts on how technology can shape the future, creating a hope for restoring and protecting our depleting natural environment. Amidst the chatter, few solutions stand out as beacons, guiding us towards imagining and building a better future. D Chandrasekhar, an ex-merchant navy captain and innovator from Bengaluru, is one such individual a passionate advocate for crafting cost-effective solutions using simple techniques to address complex problems. With two companies AlphaMERS and BetaTank Robotics Pvt Ltd -- under his helm, the 61-year-old has always possessed a knack for devising out-of-the-box solutions by simply observing his surroundings. Through AlphaMERS, he pioneered unique river barriers designed to collect solid waste without disrupting the water bodys flow. This innovative approach ensures that trash is brought to the riverbank without using excessive resources. Subsequently, the collected waste is either recycled by NGOs or government bodies, serving as a sustainable model for waste management. Chandrasekhar joined the merchant navy in 1980, a time when career choices were limited. It was a choice between joining the defence or working in a bank. Fortunately, I cleared the merchant navy tests, but I was always a thinker. I pondered over the various issues plaguing India and contemplated solutions, he recalls. Traveling broadens ones perspective, and over time, I became deeply connected to Indias identity. As a young person, I often wondered why my country couldnt achieve certain things. The vision of clean rivers abroad always lingered in my mind, he adds, his voice filled with enthusiasm. D Chandrasekhar with his team The former captains journey into innovation began in 1995, when he was cleaning a petrol tank with his peers, using buckets. He recalls expressing his discontent, asserting that one day, he would develop robots to clean the tanks. That dream remained unrealised for nearly three decades until 2019, when M/s OIL offered incubation and financial support for our robot project, he shares. BetaTank Robotics, incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology in Guwahati, introduced the six-legged robot, revolutionising safety, cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability in the oil industry. The companys groundbreaking work was recognised with the Best Startup award at India Energy Week. Currently, we have around 15 patents in the pipeline. Ive come to realise that many are spending millions daily on basic tasks using technology, which is unnecessary. We are not a profit-driven company; our focus is on addressing fundamental issues, whether in ports, rivers, reservoirs or the ocean, Chandrasekhar explains. In 2010, he founded AlphaMERS with a similar mission: to find effective solutions for water bodies. His intuitive understanding of seas, oceans, waves and currents guided the companys initiatives. The river-cleaning plan, which costs only Rs 85 lakh for 10 locations in Chennai as compared to the billions spent abroad, showcases the effectiveness of his approach. Despite the financial challenges inherent in Indias landscape, Chandrasekhar and his team push themselves to innovate and contribute to environmental conservation. Waste from a river being collected using the river barrier method The river barriers, designed to trap trash, utilise mesh to minimise drag forces a solution rooted in hydrodynamics. In its inaugural year in 2018, this approach removed 2,200 tonnes of plastics from a coastal river, subsequently scaling to Chennai as compared to the billions (millions) spent abroad.Additionally, the company developed silt traps that passively capture sediments, which can then be efficiently removed using dedicated conveyors. These innovations have already been implemented in several lakes in Bengaluru. Chandrasekhar and his team have also designed a device called Wave Energy Converter (WEC) to harness renewable energy from sea waves. The initial tests showed it can generate 5 kW of electricity. However, he adds that commercial interest has been low. The team has also worked on a wave-powered boat that can help save a lot of energy. I want the younger generation to believe that they can design anything in India. Confidence is key. While oil and minerals may not be equitably distributed worldwide, intelligence is universal. Our ability to innovate and find solutions lies within each of us. India has the potential to lead in technology globally; we just need to take the necessary risks, he adds. An excavator gathers trash from a river The former navy captain, with his infectious spirit, reflects on his teams achievements in cleaning three city rivers. He humbly says, If an average person like me can do it, why not others? A solution to collect trash in rivers AlphaMERS-developed river barriers to arrest trash are currently running in Tamil Nadu, Kochi, Cooum, Addiyar, Thoothukudi, Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Puducherry, Ulsoor in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Musi, Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

This party wants to be voice of 'mard' in LS polls

LUCKNOW: Unlike other political parties, winning or losing elections does not matter to the Mera Adhikaar Rashtriya Dal (MARD), which has jumped into the electoral battle to be the voice of the 'mard' and to defend men's honour. MARD has lost deposits on all seats it has contested so far since it was formed in 2018 but its leaders say they are undeterred by election losses. The party has released its 'MANifesto' for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls with the slogan Beton ke samman me, 'mard' utre maidan me (In honour of sons, men have stepped onto the battleground). The party has so far announced candidates for three seats - Lucknow, Ranchi and Gorakhpur. The MARD party has previously contested in seven different elections -Lok Sabha polls in Varanasi and Lucknow in 2019, bypoll in Bangarmau assembly seat in 2020, assembly polls in Bareilly, Lucknow North, Bakshi Ka Talab (Lucknow) and Chauri Chaura seats in 2022. We have jumped into the fray in honour of men, to raise the voice for those who are harassed and exploited in the name of women's security. Winning and losing does not matter to us, MARD party national general secretary Ashutosh Kumar Pandey told PTI. BJP MP Ravi Kishan's alleged daughter's DNA test plea dismissed

BJP MP Ravi Kishan's alleged daughter's DNA test plea dismissed A civil court in Mumbai on Friday rejected the interim plea of a 25-year-old woman seeking a DNA test on BJP's Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan to prove her claim that the actor-politician is her biological father. Shinova had filed a suit before a civil court here urging it to declare that she is the biological daughter of Kishan born out of his relationship with Aparna Soni. The suit, filed through advocate Ashok Sarogi and Jay Yadav, as an interim measure had also sought DNA test to prove the woman's claim that Kishan is her father. However, the court on Friday refused to grant any interim relief. It then issued summons to the respondents, seeking their response on the main suit of the woman. The matter will be next heard on July 23. The woman, in her suit, said Soni came across various people belonging to the film fraternity, including Ravi Kishan, in her capacity as a journalist. As per the plea, Soni and Kishan entered into a relationship and got married in 1991, though they could not reside together for long due to some personal problems. Shinova, in the plea, said she was born on October 19, 1998, by which time it had come to light that Kishan was already married. Considering these facts, it seems Kishan and Soni decided among themselves that their child would call the actor 'uncle', the plea said, adding that the duo took necessary care of her. However, recently when Shinova and Soni visited the BJP leader to offer best wishes for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he misbehaved and refused to meet them, the plea alleged. Following this, they held a press conference to tell the public about the rights of Shinova in her capacity as the biological daughter of Kishan, the plea said. Nothing incriminating was mentioned in the press conference, despite which Kishan's wife Shukla filed an FIR against them, Shinova said in the plea.

That one year was the toughest for me. I used to work for eight hours and then come back to my room, and prepare my own food as I was living in Mumbai without my family. But every day, I used to make time for my fitness and training from 8-9 pm. I made sure that my fitness level never went down. I have a diary where I keep writing my dreams in the form of drawings, how can I fulfil them and each day before I hit the field for my training, I look at the diary and it just reminds me of the struggles that I have overcome in the past few years, the 25-year-old added. Known for her agility, strategic prowess, and commitment to the field, she brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the team. Having previously represented the nation in several national and international tournaments, including the Olympics and World Cup, her presence is set to inspire the performance of her teammates. see where a woman climbs on electricity tower after getting caught

The incident that unfolded in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman climbed atop an electric pole following the revelation of her extramarital affair, has garnered significant attention. The 34-year-old woman, married to Ram Govind, was found to have been involved in a relationship with another man from a neighbouring village for seven years. The situation escalated when Ram Govind discovered the affair and confronted his wife, leading to a heated argument. In a shocking turn of events, the woman demanded that her lover be accommodated in their household and contribute to the family's finances. However, Ram Govind vehemently opposed the idea, leading to further discord. Frustrated, he stormed out of the house, leaving his wife distraught. In a desperate bid to draw attention to her plight, the woman climbed up the electric pole, risking her life amidst a crowd of horrified onlookers. The local authorities, upon being alerted, swiftly intervened to defuse the crisis. Teams from the police and electricity department were dispatched to the scene, and the electricity supply to the area was promptly cut off to ensure the woman's safety. After hours of tense negotiation and patient efforts by the authorities, the woman finally descended from the pole, bringing an end to the harrowing ordeal. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the complex social dynamics and personal struggles prevalent in society, highlighting the need for effective conflict resolution and support mechanisms for individuals facing such challenges . This episode echoes a similar incident from last year, where a woman in Uttar Pradesh climbed a mobile tower to demand that her boyfriend fulfill his promise to marry her. Such occurrences underscore the deep-rooted issues of relationship conflicts, betrayal, and societal pressures faced by individuals, particularly in the context of intimate relationships. While these incidents may capture headlines and evoke public interest, they also shed light on the underlying issues of emotional distress, desperation, and the need for empathy and understanding in addressing interpersonal conflicts. It is imperative for communities and authorities to provide support, guidance, and resources to individuals navigating tumultuous relationships and facing emotional turmoil, thereby fostering healthier and more resilient communities. 5 Weirdest Things in the World That Will Blow Your Mind From Fried Stones to Fish Eyes: Unveiling the 7 Weirdest Breakfasts Around the World Biocon Ventures into Obesity Medications, Eyeing $100 Billion Market

PM Modi launches BJP's Lok Sabha campaign in MP with massive Jabalpur roadshow

JABALPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday kickstarted the BJP's Lok Sabha poll campaign in Madhya Pradesh with a roadshow in Jabalpur that was attended by thousands of people. He was accompanied by MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state PWD minister Rakesh Singh and the party's Jabalpur Lok Sabha candidate Ashish Dubey. The roadshow started around 6:30pm from Shaheed Bhagat Singh crossing and culminated at Adi Shankaracharya crossing in Gorakhpur locality here at 7:15pm. PM Modi, who is on his first visit to the state after Lok Sabha polls were announced, Yadav and others held the BJP's poll symbol 'lotus' as their saffron coloured vehicle bedecked with flowers moved during the roadshow. A large number of people had lined up on either side of the route right from 3am despite the scorching heat and were seen clicking photographs and shooting videos using mobile phones. Several of them held 'Mera Ghar Modi Ka Ghar' and 'Mera Pariwar Modi Ka Pariwar' placards. The BJP had started a campaign to highlight that people of the country comprised Modi's family, the move coming after Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Yadav had said the PM spoke about dynastic politics but had no family of his own. Tribals groups performed several dances enroute, including 'Badhai Nritya', a dance form of the state's Bundelkhand region that is on display to mark marriages, childbirth and other happy occasions. An injured being taken for treatments after a stage built for people collapsed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's road show ahead of Lok Sabha elections, in Jabalpur, Sunday, April 7, 2024 Slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram', 'Ab ki baar 400 paar' and 'Jo Ram ko laaye hai, hum unko layenge' were shouted all along the route. PM Modi started the roadshow by garlanding the statues of Bhagat Singh, Adi Shankaracharya and Rani Durgavati, a legendary Gond queen hailed for her valiant fight against the Mughals several centuries ago. Six people injured Such was the enthusiasm that people on a wooden dais jostled to get a better glimpse of the PM, causing the structure to topple. Police said some six people received minor injuries. Jabalpur is part of the state's Mahakoshal region, which also comprises Chhindwara, the only Lok Sabha seat the BJP had failed to win in the 2019 polls. The ruling party had swept the remaining 28 seats in MP. Jabalpur and Chhindwara will go to polls in the first phase on April 19 along with Sidhi, Shahdol (ST), Mandla (ST) and Balaghat.

PM Modi's roadshow has fired up BJP workers in MP, say party leaders

PM Modi's roadshow has fired up BJP workers in MP, say party leaders Prime Minister Narendra Modi's roadshow in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday has fired up workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party, leaders said. The 1.2 kilometre roadshow, from Shaheed Bhagat Singh crossing to Adi Shankaracharya crossing in Gorakhpur locality here, saw huge crowds lining up along the route, many of them carrying placards claiming they were Modi's family. Tribal dancers performed at several places while the saffron coloured vehicle carrying the PM, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and others moved as part of the roadshow between 6:30pm and 7:15pm. Jabalpur is the main city in MP's Mahakoshal region. The BJP has been winning from Jabalpur Lok Sabha seat since 1996. It has fielded Ashish Dubey this time. Of the eight Assembly seats in Jabalpur, the BJP won seven and the Congress one in the 2023 polls. Mahakoshal also has Chhindwara, the only Lok Sabha seat the BJP had failed to win in the 2023 Assembly polls. The BJP, which won 166 seats in the 230-member Assembly and relegated the Congress to a distant second with 63 seats, however, had failed to capture any of the seven seats in Chhindwara, which is considered a bastion of Congress leader Kamal Nath. The PM began his roadshow by garlanding the statue of Rani Durgavati, the queen of the tribal Gond community, who valiantly fought the Mughals in Jabalpur and then ended her life with a knife to keep her honour intact. Jabalpur and Chhindwara will go to polls in the first phase on April 19 along with Sidhi, Shahdol (ST), Mandla (ST) and Balaghat. ''The PM's roadshow has really fired up BJP workers,'' a party leader told PTI. Incidentally, of the 31 Assembly seats in Mahakoshal, the Congress won 16 and the BJP emerged victorious on 15 in the 2023 polls. Of the 12 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes in the region, the Congress won eight and the BJP four. In Mandla, the BJP has fielded Union Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste, who had lost the 2023 Assembly polls from Niwas seat. Moreover, of the six Assembly seats reserved in Mandla for STs, the Congress won four and the BJP two. Of the total eight seats in Mandla, the Congress emerged victorious on five and the BJP managed to win on three. The PM will also address a public meeting on Tuesday in Balaghat, where BJP's Bharti Pardi is up against the Congress' Samrat Saraswat and BSP's Kankar Munjare. Of the eight Assembly seats in Balaghat, the BJP and Congress had won four each in 2023. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had won 28 out of the 29 seats in MP on the back of a massive Modi wave. The stellar performance came just months after the Congress managed to edge out the BJP and form government after the 2018 Assembly polls.

Elections and wars should never be taken lightly, Adityanath tells BJP workers

Elections and wars should never be taken lightly, Adityanath tells BJP workers Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday asked the BJP workers to avoid overconfidence while simultaneously working hard for the victory of the Narendra Modi government for the third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha polls. Emphasising alertness among the party cadres up to the booth level, Adityanath said there is a tremendous atmosphere in favour of the BJP in the entire country and the result of the coming Lok Sabha elections will also be in accordance with this. What is needed is activism, promptness and alertness up to the booth level, Adityanath said, giving the mantra for winning elections. In an important meeting with the BJP's election steering committee for Gorakhpur, Bansgaon and Sant Kabir Nagar Lok Sabha seats, the chief minister exuded confidence that the Modi government will return to power for the third consecutive term, but stressed that elections and wars should never be taken lightly. ''Therefore, we have to work (hard) while avoiding overconfidence,'' he said, stressing that winning the booth is the most effective formula to win the elections. ''We do not have to feel assured and we need to pay more attention to the booth-centric system in the Lok Sabha elections. Booth committee, 'panna pramukh' and social group are the most important organs for the BJP. The booth committee should have details of every voter of the concerned booth,'' he said. Adityanath said all the officials and the public representatives have to take the responsibility of continuous public relations. Teachers, advocates, officers, employees, doctors, businessmen, social, business and cultural organisations have to meet everyone, he said. These sections of the society have to highlight the achievements of the double engine government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. For this, the BJP officials and the public representatives should give their full strength at the local level, he said. The chief minister said the BJP Mahila Morcha also has an important responsibility in the elections. Mahila Morcha office-bearers should go among half the population and do intensive public relations, he added. ''Make women aware of the unprecedented work done by the Modi government regarding the safety, respect and self-reliance of women. Motivate them to reach the booth on the polling day and press the lotus symbol button,'' he said, adding that similarly the BJP's youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) team should also be deployed to reach out the youth.

Skin-friendly gulal, made from Kachnar flowers, to mark Ram Lallas Holi

Lucknow: Lord Shri Ram Lalla will enjoy the Holi with skin-friendly gulal made from Kachnar flowers at his magnificent temple in Awadhpuri as the scientists of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI) have crafted this special gulal, to honour Chief Minister Yogi Adityanaths remarkable contribution to conserve the rich tradition and heritage of the country. The scientists have prepared another herbal gulal from the flowers offered at Gorakhnath Temple, Gorakhpur. The gulals made from kachnar as well as other flowers offered at Gorakhnath Temple are available in lavender and sandalwood fragrances, respectively. Director of the institute Dr Ajit Kumar Shashani presented both the special gulals to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and earned his appreciation on Wednesday. Lauding the efforts of the institute, the CM said that the initiative will provide more opportunities to start-ups and entrepreneurs while generating employment both within UP as well as across the country. Underscoring CM Yogi's efforts to conserve trees and plants that find mention in the Ramayana in Ayodhya, Director Dr Ajit said, Kachnar was considered the state tree of Ayodhya in Treta Yuga and it has been used as a well-established medicine in our Ayurvedic system of medicine. He said. Drawing inspiration from the CMs efforts to respect heritage and preserve tradition, our scientists have developed this herbal gulal, especially for Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, Ayodhya, from the flowers of Bauhinia species commonly known as Kachnar. Kachnar has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal etc. properties. Similarly, herbal gulal has been extracted from flowers offered at Gorakhnath Temple, Gorakhpur. These herbal gulal have been tested and are completely safe for human skin and eco-friendly. According to Shashani, the colours of these herbal gulals are not bright as they do not contain harmful chemicals like lead, chromium and nickel. The colours extracted from flowers are mixed with natural ingredients to form a powder that can be easily wiped off the skin, he said. Herbal Gulal technology has been transferred to many companies and start-ups for better availability of the eco-friendly gulal in the market. Talking about the chemical gulal currently available in the market, Dr. Shashani said that these contain dangerous chemicals that can cause allergies, irritation and serious problems in the skin and eyes. He elaborated that a key characteristic of herbal gulal is its tendency to not quickly stain the hands, distinguishing it from other varieties. The Herbal Gulal produced by the institute serves as a secure substitute for the harmful chemical-based colors commonly available in the market during the Holi festivities.
