BRS future hangs on the outcome of Lok Sabha polls

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had asserted more than once during the recent Lok Sabha election campaign that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would be wiped out after the polls. The car has gone to the mechanics shed and it will never come back. It will be sold as scrap, Revanth Reddy had said. The poll outcome on June 4 will decide which way the pink party will go. If the party manages to open its account by securing at least one Lok Sabha seat, the party would struggle to continue in state politics. But, if the party drew a blank, the decline of the BRS would be speedier than expected as was seen after the defeat in the recent Assembly elections when its leaders and cadres moved away in droves to other parties. A wipe-out would definitely send the danger bells ringing for the party, sources said. BRS sources have said that the 17-day-long bus yatra taken out by BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandashekar Rao had helped to halt the erosion of the base of the party and sustain hope among its on-ground workers of the party Chandrashekar Raos yatra began on April 24 and concluded on May 10, just before the Lok Sabha polls. It is to be noted that TPCC president and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had announced on April 16 at a meet the press programme that he was opening the 'gates' of the party as part of `Operation Akarsh', with BRS MP from Chevella G. Ranjith Reddy and BRS MLA from Khairatabad Danam Nagender joining the Congress. Besides senior leaders like K. Keshava Rao, four MPs of the BRS left the party and three of them joined the BJP and one the Congress. Venkatesh Neta from Peddapalli, B.B. Patil from Zaheerabad and Ramulu Naik from Nagarkurnool have joined the BJP and while Ranjith Reddy from Chevella joined the Congress and was given the party nomination for the Lok Sabha polls. Apart from Nagender, representing the Khairatabad Assembly segment, BRS legislators Kadiam Srihari from Station Ghanpur and Tellam Venkat Rao from Bhadrachalam left the pink party and joined the Congress. Madan Reddy, former MLA from Narsapur, and A. Indrakaran Reddy, former MLA from Nirmal, also joined the ruling party in the state. Besides them, scores of elected representatives from urban and rural local bodies have switched over to the Congress. At several places, BRS leaders have been replaced after no-confidence motions. This apart from BRS leaders taking their cadres along with them to the Congress and the BJP. When the party ranks was emptying with one leader after another joining the Congress and Revanth Reddy announcing the opening of gates of the party, the BRS president huddled with close aides and launched the bus yatra to try and stem the flow. BRS sources said the bus yatra had stopped another set of four BRS MLAs from joining the Congress. Sunita Laxma Reddy from Narsapur, Kotha Prakash Reddy from Dubbaka, Banda Prakash from Rajendranagar and Mahipal Reddy from Patancheru had all met Revanth Reddy just before Chandrashekar Rao embarked on the bus yatra and it was speculated that they would join the Congress. However, they have not joined the Congress so far. The bus yatra by the party chief forced the BRS leaders to pause and watch the situation. BRS sources said that the party candidates had given a creditable performance in the Lok Sabha elections at the Medak, Khammam, Mahbubabad and Secunderabad constituencies and hoped to win at least two seats, though the party was pinning its hopes on Medak. A party leader maintained that a win in Medak would lend a fresh lease of life to the party, else it would be difficult to maintain the momentum and retain its image as a credible Opposition party in the state.

In an informal chat with the reporters here on Wednesday, he said: I have also conducted a special survey. According to this survey report, all the silent voters supported the BRS in the Lok Sabha elections. We are going to win seven seats while the Congress will be restricted to ust one seat Nalgonda. The Congress candidates have spent huge amount of money in this elections. But it is not going to help them, he said and added that Though I won as an MLA from Sircilla five times, I have not given even a single rupee as bribe to the voters. The BRS leader also mentioned the seven segments that his party, according to the survey report, is sure of winning. We will definitely win in Nagarkurnool, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, Karimnagar, Khammam, Medak and Chevella. In Peddapalli, Adilabad and Nizamabad, the main contest was between the BRS and BJP, he said. Rama Rao also criticised the Congress selection of candidates. Does Suneetha Mahender Reddy have anything to do with Malkajgiri? Congress fielded her from Malkajgiri. It also gave a ticket to an unknown person (Velichala Rajeswara Rao) to take on (BJPs) Bandi Sanjay. In Nagarkurnool, candidates of other parties are no match to our candidate RS Praveen Kumar. After announcement of Praveen Kumars name, the equations completely changed, he said. In Khammam, the Kamma community will ensure our candidate Nama Nageshwar Raos victory, he added.

I see Congress victory in 13 seats: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD: Exuding confidence that the Congress will win 13 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said that there will be an increase in the ruling partys vote share. He, however, said that the party may be limited to nine seats if the BRS conspiracies worked out. The chief minister reviewed the voting trends based on the survey reports and feedback from party functionaries. We dont know what BRS has done in the election. It becomes a little difficult to assess the election without knowing what they (BRS) have done. But BRS candidates will lose their security deposits in six seats, Revanth told reporters during an informal interaction at his residence. Stating that the BRS made the saffron party a viable political force in the state, he said that the pink partys approach of zero opposition paved the way for the rise of the BJP in Telangana. Revanth reiterated that the BJP was likely to get 220 seats across India, with the margin of error in his assessment being 10%. Earlier in the day, the TPCC chiefs office indicated that the Congress would win in Nalgonda, Bhongir, Khammam, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Peddapalli, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Medak, Zaheerabad, Chevella and Secunderabad constituencies. New ration cards soon Stating that the state government will soon start accepting applications for new ration cards, the chief minister said that his administration will procure agricultural produce directly from farmers and supply it to holders of ration cards at subsidised prices. Stating that the time for politics has ended, Revanth said that accepting applications for ration cards, which was stopped during the BRS regime, would be a continuous process. BRS will bag more seats in Telangana than other parties: KT Rama Rao Responding to news reports that the L& T will be backing out of the Hyderabad Metro Rail due to free bus scheme, the chief minister made it clear that Mahalakshmi scheme providing free bus travel to women will not be stopped at any cost. He opined that they would look into the comments of L&T. My government is committed to giving superfine rice to holders of food security cards. Generally, farmers are interested in producing a coarse variety of rice given its high yield. By giving remunerative prices, we would encourage farmers to go for superfine variety of rice, oil seeds, turmeric, sugar and other essential commodities. We will provide the same superfine quality of rice and other essential supplies to food security card holders at subsidised prices. We will prepare an indent of the required items and quantity. The state will bear the subsidy cost, Revanth said, during an informal chat with reporters at his residence here. Time for governance The chief minister said that with the conclusion of polling for the Lok Sabha elections, he has now shifted his focus to governance, administration, welfare, development, implementation of the farm loan waiver, procurement of soaked paddy, supplying textbooks and uniforms to students, bringing reforms in the educational sector among other things. As far as I am concerned, politics have come to an end. The time for allegations and counter allegations is over. My focus is governance, education, agriculture, and agriculture loans. Let critics think what they may, I dont care, Revanth said. He confirmed that he would resume work from the state Secretariat. The chief minister also said that he would appoint education and agriculture commissions for the purpose of regulation. He maintained that the state government would float Agriculture Welfare Corporation enabling it with income generation to waive farm loans. The chief minister also said that the government will appoint Vice-Chancellors to all the universities in the state after the Model Code of Conduct is lifted. He also expressed his inclination to hold an all-party meeting to which civil society organisations will be invited to discuss public issues and frame state policies. Responding to a question on who would win in Andhra Pradesh, Revanth said that his government would maintain a cordial relationship with the administration in the neighbouring state regardless of which party is elected to power in the best interest of the people of Telangana. Phone-tapping etc Reacting to a question on the phone-tapping case, the chief minister said that the state government will discuss the matter in the Assembly. He also disclosed that the Formula E case was also under investigation. Asked about the expansion of his Cabinet, the chief minister said that the party high command has to take a decision to this effect. He, however, hinted that an SC, ST, BC and an OBC may fill the six vacancies. Peoples verdict to determine future of Telangana politics

Cross Voting Fear Grips Candidates in Rayalaseema

ANANTAPUR: Cross-voting fear is evident among major political party candidates in Rayalaseema and this is likely to impact the outcome in a few assembly segments. This time, several voters opted for cross-voting and avoided casting both their parties to one political party. Their decisions were based on consideration of their liking for a candidate as also cast preferences. Also, many slum and rural voters, who received cash from both parties, tried to do justice by casting their votes to those parties, separately, vis-a-vis the LS and assembly polls. Unlike the previous elections, the YSRC and TD opted to field a majority of the Lok Sabha candidates based on caste equations in Anantapur, Hindupur and Kurnool constituencies, targeting BC votes -- mainly the Boya and Kurbua sections. The YSRC fielded Penukonda MLA Shankara Naryayana of Kuruba as LS candidate from Anantapur while TD fielded Hindupur-based leader Ambika Lakshmi Narayana of Boya community. Also, the YSRC fielded Karnatakas former MP, J Santha, a Boya, from Hindupur LS, while the TD fielded BK Parthasarthi of the Kuruba community. There were less such changes vis-a-vis assembly candidates in many segments. TD fielded Kamma candidates from Kalyandurg and Anantapur urban segments, who were new to those areas. Similarly, YSRC fielded sitting MP Talari Rangaiah of the Boya community from Kalyandurg assembly segment. YSRC did an experiment by fielding Kuruba community woman Deepika from Hindupur assembly segment against film star Nandamuri Balakrishna. Analysts say a large number of voters opted for cross-voting -- either voting for the YSRC in the assembly and the TD candidate for Lok Sabha, or vice versa, but they were confused in several polling stations as to whom they should vote for. The Congress had fielded Kuruba leader Mallikarjuna from Anantapur LS, and this had an impact on the Anantapur urban segment where a section of people voted for Congress candidate. Meanwhile, large-scale cross-voting was reported from the Kadapa Lok Sabha segment where APCC chief YS Sharmila is the Congress nominee. A video of her mother YS Vijayamma seeking support for Sharmila impacted voters across the Kadapa area. Many voters from Pulivendula did cross voting for assembly candidate Jagan Mohan Reddy and LS candidate Sharmila. A group of TD activists too reportedly voted for Sharmila as they were unhappy with the TD leadership and the YSRC.

Marginal Rise in Voter Turnout in Kurnool and Nandyal

Picture for representational purpose. Picture for representational purpose. Kurnool: The elections in Kurnool and Nandyal districts saw a marginal increase in voter turnout compared to the 2019 polls. The polling percentage rose in Kurnool from 75.13 in 2019 to 76.80 this time, indicating a slight uptick in civic participation. Meanwhile, Nandyal maintained a consistent polling percentage at 81. Despite claims of anti-incumbency, data from the administration suggests there was no such trend in the combined Kurnool region. However, there has been criticism of the role of political parties in driving voter turnout through inducements. Several constituencies in the Kurnool district recorded high polling percentages, with Pathikonda leading at 84.98, followed closely by Mantralayam at 84.31, Yemmiganur (81.97), Alur (80.73), Kodumur (79.14), and Adoni (66.55). Kurnool's assembly segment saw a lower turnout, 63.75, compared to other areas. Officials claimed that they sought to raise awareness among the voters of the need for their participation in the polling process. The previous election's turnout in the district was 59.53 per cent. Nandyal district maintained a consistent polling percentage, with no significant variation from the previous elections. Allagadda recorded 83.12 per cent, Dhone 82.91, Banaganapalle 82.29 and Srisailam 81.70 per cent. Nandyal town saw a respectable 75 per cent turnout. Urban percentages gradually increased since 2004, reaching around 79 during the by-poll in 2017. Retired teacher K Suresh from Gururaghavendra Nagar in Kurnool attributed the increase to voter awareness, favorable weather conditions, and inducements via cash, liquor, etc.

Hyderabad voters show apathy in voting, again

HYDERABAD: Once again, Hyderabad District voters have exposed their slackness when it comes to polling despite the government declaring a holiday for voting purposes. Voter turnout for 15 Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad covering two Lok Sabha constituencies, Hyderabad and Secunderabad and partly Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency was abysmally low and failed to cross even 55%. Despite the ECI increasing the polling time by an additional one hour, the voters did not show interest in turning up to the booths to cast their votes. All other Lok Sabha constituencies Adilabad (ST), Peddapalli (SC), Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Zaheerabad, Medak, Chevella, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool (SC), Nalgonda, Bhongir, Waranagal (SC), Mahabubabad (ST) and Khammam polled over 60%. Due to the three day holidays in a row from May 11 to 13, thousands of voters have taken advantage of these holidays, skipped the polling and went for vacation with families to beat the sweltering heat. Also, the impact of simultaneous polls to Assembly and Lok Sabha in Andhra Pradesh which coincides with Telangana Lok Sabha on Monday was felt in Hyderabad. Many voters of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions who live in Hyderabad had left the city enmasse to their respective places in AP to vote. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the polling percentage in Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency was 44.84% while in Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, the polling percentage was 46.51%. In Assembly elections held in November 2023, Hyderabad district recorded 47% of polling. However, this time, the approximate polling percentage in Hyderabad was 46.08%, followed by 48.11% in Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, and 50.12% in the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency. Despite creating large-scale awareness among the voters about Right to Vote through Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities, the citizens failed to show any interest to go to polling booths to cast their votes. As per the reports, around 47%- 48% of the voting was done in Hyderabad. Authorities feel that Hyderabad voters are active when it comes to criticising politicians and politics in general on social media, but go numb when it comes to casting their votes. Violent incidents mar polling at a few places in Andhra Pradesh

VIJAYAWADA: Scattered incidents of violence were reported across the State on Monday as polling to elect legislators for 175 Assembly seats and 25 members of the Lok Sabha took place.YSRC and TDP workers were involved in clashes, verbal duels and attacks with deadly weapons in a few parts of the State. At several polling stations, the voting process had to be halted due to the disruption caused by the clashes. Police, deployed in large numbers, swung into action and brought the situation under control. Polling began on a smooth note at 7 am. In the afternoon, supporters of both TDP and YSRC began accusing each other of instigating violence at multiple locations throughout the State. The election-related clashes were most intense in Palnadu, NTR, Krishna and Guntur districts. Cadres of the political parties suffered injuries in Pithapuram, Nellore, Anantapur, Tirupathi, Srikakulam, Annamaya, Kadapa, Kurnool districts as they attacked each other with stones and sickles, and vandalised cars and electronic voting machines (EVMs). According to sources, more than 20 persons were injured in the violence that erupted in around 12 places in faction-ridden Palnadu district. Some of these regions include: Macherla, Cheemalamarri, Tangeda, Narasaraopet and Dachepalli. Despite the Election Commission of India (ECI) taking elaborate security measures, multiple instances of violence and disruptions were reported. The atmosphere was particularly tense in Narasaraopet, where a number of TDP cadres attacked YSRC candidate Dr Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy at his residence after clashes between supporters of the TDP and ruling YSRC raged. Miscreants damaged EVMs at Pullampet TDP leaders destroyed several cars on their way to his home after they were stopped from entering a polling centre by YSRC agents, resulting in violence. In a fit of rage, they carried out a protest against him and vandalised his car and other vehicles by pelting stones. Though police officials tried to stop them, the mob became very aggressive and even attacked the police by pelting stones at them. As the situation went out of control with people running helter-skelter for safety, police fired rubber bullets first and then opened fire to disperse the mob. After one hour, the situation improved. Armed forces were posted at all problematic locations to prevent further break down of law and order. In Tangeda village of Dachepalli mandal under Gurazala constituency, unidentified miscreants hurled molotov cocktails at shops and thatched houses around 6 pm following a clash at a nearby polling station. Though no one got injured, this triggered a panic in the village. However, the police confirmed that no petrol bomb was set off, but a dilapidated thatched house in the village was set on fire by some miscreants to express their angst at the police and their rival political party. On learning about the incident, Guntur range IG Ch Srikanth, Palnadu SP Bindu Madhav, Macherla constituency Returning Officer and district joint collector A Shyam Prasad rushed to the spot and inspected the situation. The officials immediately set up other EVMs and restarted the polling process within a few hours. TDP leaders were attacked in Rentala by YSRC cadres even before polling commenced in the morning, when both groups came across each other. Macherla TDP candidate Julakanti Brahmanandaiahs car was set on fire. In another incident, Macherla YSRC candidate Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy was attacked by TDP members and clashes broke out between two groups. Additionally, clashes were reported in Guntur, Ponnur, Tadikonda, and Nizampatnam in Bapatla district. In Veldurthi, Sattenapalli, Muppalla, Thondepi, Madala, Dammalapadu, Loyapalli, Mokkapadu and Acchampeta incidents of attacks were reported outside polling stations. YSRC cadre allegedly also ransacked the vehicles of Narasaraopet TDP MP candidate Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayulu in Dondaparru village. In Krishna district, supporters of Gannavaram Assembly candidates clashed in Mustabada village with slippers and stones. Similarly, in Penamaluru TDP contender Bode Prasad and his supporters created a flutter when they were prevented from entering a polling station. In Mandi Krishnapuram village in Chittoor district, a YSRC polling agent was allegedly stabbed by a TDP supporter in broad daylight. In Annamaya district, YSRC and TDP leaders attacked one another and damaged their vehicles in a fit of rage. Also, TDP polling booth agent Subash in Papakkagaripalle lost his eye in the clash with YSRC leaders.

Mixed voter turnout perplexes candidates from Telangana

HYDERABAD: The elections for the Lok Sabha seats in Telangana held on Monday have thrown up several questions as to which party will gain and which party will lose amid varied poll percentages recorded across the state and reports of loyalists of one outfit backing others. For instance, the low poll percentage recorded in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits is giving tense moments to the candidates of the three main parties as they fancied their chances if a large number of voters exercised their franchise. The parties are expecting a neck-and-neck fight in districts where the poll percentage has crossed 60 per cent. Secunderabad, Malkajgiri and Hyderabad constituencies have reported below or around 50 per cent voter turnout, leaving the candidates worried. In Secunderabad, a close contest was expected between Danam Nagender of the Congress, BJPs G Kishan Reddy and Padma Rao Goud of the BRS. But with poll percentages plunging and Muslims and Basti residents constituting a considerable percentage of voters, the picture has become blurred. Hyderabad constituency too recorded an abysmally low voter turnout. Both Asaduddin Owaisi of the AIMIM and Madhavi Latha of the BJP campaigned aggressively ahead of the elections. Leaders of both parties made last-minute attempts to prod voters to exercise their franchise but in vain. Voters lukewarm response has left a shadow on both camps. LS polls: Over 64% cast vote in Telangana 50% turnout in Malkajgiri Similarly in Malkajgiri constituency which recorded around 50 per cent voter turnout, the picture is hazy. Though the main contest is expected between BJP Eatala Rajender and Patnam Suneetha Lakshma Reddy of the Congress, the BRS is expected to gain from the splitting of votes. Eatala and Suneetha have high hopes of winning the seat, but the low poll percentage is a worrying factor. In 14 constituencies outside the state capital, the scenario is different as voter turnout was much better. According to political analysts, the contest is neck and neck between the BJP and Congress in some segments and between the ruling party and BRS in a few others. There is a triangular fight between the three in some constituencies. In Adilabad and Nizamabad, the fight is clearly between the Congress and BJP candidates. In Karimnagar, a close race was predicted between the three main rivals, but the latest trends indicate its going to be Congress vs BJP. In Peddapalli, the BJP seems to have increased its vote share and is expected to give tough competition to Congress and BRS. Before the elections, there were indications of a fight between the BRS and the Congress. In Warangal, the BRS, which appeared to be out of the contest before the elections, seems to have improved its chances and is expected to give a tough fight to the Congress and the BJP rivals. Fairly good poll percentage In Mahabubabad segment In Mahabubabad, political observers predicted a straight fight between the grand old party and the pink party before the elections. With the segment recording a fairly good poll percentage, the BJP appears to have come back into the contest. Though its Congress vs BRS in Khammam, the BJP is likely to get a fair share of votes this time. In Nalgonda, political analysts see a Congress vs BJP and BRS contest and in Bhongir, its a competition between the Congress and BJP though the BRS may dominate in some pockets. In Medak, all three parties stand a chance and the winner may just scrape through. In Zaheerabad, its going to be a straight contest between the Congress and BJP with the BRS confined to a few pockets. Reports from Mahbubnagar suggest a neck-and-neck fight between the Congress and BJP with the BRS nowhere in the contest. In Nagarkurnool, the candidates of the three main parties are expected to fight it out and the margin of victory is likely to be small. In Chevella, an epic battle is on the cards between the BJPs Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and Congresss Ranjith Reddy. An interesting thing that happened in this election is likely to change the fortunes of the candidates. Votes of a particular party are said to have been split between candidates of the two other main outfits. Hence, candidates of one of the three main parties face the threat of losing deposits in some segments. In the event of that happening, there will be a question mark on the existence of the party. The outfit that gains can hope to consolidate its position for the next Assembly elections.

Similarly, the TD and YSRC activists clashed at Gokarnapalle in Pondur mandal of Amudalavalasa Assembly constituency and two persons were injured. They were shifted to Srikakulam RIMS hospital for treatment and additional forces were deployed. According to the reports, the reason for the clash was that Tamineni Vani, wife of YSRC candidate Tamineni Sitaram, entered the polling booth as a general agent. TD members objected to this at Gokarnapalle. Three polling agents of TD were allegedly kidnapped by the YSRC men in Borakamanda village of Saddum mandal of Punganoor Assembly constituency on Monday morning, even before elections commenced. The police traced them in Pileru and brought them back to Borakamanda. They registered a case based on the complaint lodged by TD district in-charge Jagan Mohan Raju. More incidents of election-related violence included an attack on TDs Lok Sabha candidate Lavu Krishnadevarayulu and his supporters in Dondapadu village of Palnadu district, in which three cars were damaged due to stone-pelting. In Ananthapur district's Tadipatri, YSRC and TD activists engaged in a stone-pelting scuffle, resulting in injuries to a TD supporter and a constable. In a separate incident, approximately 150 people stormed the Vemuluri Venkataratnam College polling booth in Mylavaram constituency. Both YSRC and TD candidates blamed each other for the irregularities and violence.

Mango Farmers in Telugu States Staring at Sharp Fall in Yield This Year

Picture used for representation purpose only. Photo: AFP Picture used for representation purpose only. Photo: AFP Hyderabad: With rains playing truant in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state last year, the climate going haywire, and under a pest attack, mango farmers are staring at an abysmally low produce this season. The effect is starkly visible in the perennially drought-prone erstwhile Chittoor district area which has around 1.2 lakh hectares under the crop. B. Madhusudhan Reddy, deputy director, horticulture, Chittoor district, said that there were no rains from August to November. The growth of new twigs and leaves. Cloudy weather in December due to the cyclone effect also led to fall in day temperatures reducing the difference in day and night temperatures. The average yield will be just three tonnes per hectare this year last year per hectare against 12.5 tonnes last year, the lowest on record. The 32 processing units in the district need up to five lakh tonnes of mangoes but the produce in the full season may not exceed 1.8 lakh tonnes in the erstwhile Chittoor district. Horticulture scientist D. Sreenivasulu Reddy, citrus research station, Dr YSR Horticulture University, Tirupati said that mangoes needed a minimum temperature of about 16C to 17 Centigrade rose to 19-20C. This was the main reason for reduction in flowering to 20 to 30 per cent of the normal. Thrips, a sucking pest which had affected chillies earlier, migrated to mangoes this year. This pest multiplies faster when the days are warmer. It has hit Khammam, Warangal, Nagarkurnool and the outskirts of Hyderabad also, Sreenivasulu Reddy added. B. Vasudeva Reddy, a mango farmer, from Abbireddivuru of Poothalapattu mandal of Chittoor district, was expecting just about three tonnes of mango this year, against the norm. I will end up spending `6 lakh by the end of the season on my 12-acre mango garden on pesticides and labour, said Vasudeva Reddy, whose family works on the farm. He said the pesticides available in the market were not able to contain the pests. M. Venkatarami Reddy, a farmer from Madithativaripalli in Nerabilu gram panchayat in Tirupati district, said that the trader who bought his 22-acre garden for Rs 4.5 lakh could face losses. His fellow villager M. Janardhan Reddy, who owns an eight-acre farm, said he would hardly get two tonnes of mangoes, while it was 40 tonnes on average every year. The experience of M. Krishnaiah, mango farmer from Bollaram village, Veepanagandla mandal of Wanaparthy district in Telangana is no different. The rates could be higher as the yield is less this year, he said. N.R. Ehsanulla, president of Damalacheruvu Mango Mandi Traders Association in Tirupati district, who also owns a 25-acre mango farm, said , I used to earn Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh every year selling mangoes but might incur loss this year, he said, having spent `4 lakh on his farm. K. Govardhan Bobby, chairman, All India Food Processors Association, South Zone, said, Disturbances in the Red Sea owing to pirates affected export of pulp last year. The value of the pulp which has a shelf life of two years falls after the first year. The buyers are expecting us to foot the additional cost of transport through distant shipping routes. The low mango produce this year is only adding to our woes.

Modi will continue to be PM till 2029: Amit Shah

HYDERABAD: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday asserted that Narendra Modi will continue to be prime minister till 2029 and said there is no confusion in the party in this regard. The BJP leader was responding to remarks made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that Modi himself had fixed 75 years as upper age limit to remain prime minister. Speaking at a press conference here, he said, I want to tell Arvind Kejriwal and company and INDI alliance partners that you have nothing to be happy about Modiji turning 75 and there is no such provision in the BJPs constitution. Narendra Modi will complete his tenure and he will continue to lead the country in the future. There is no confusion in the BJP about it, Amit Shah said. He alleged that the leaders of the opposition alliance know that the NDA will cross the 400-mark and yet they are spreading misconceptions. Responding to the allegations of the Congress that the BJP will remove SC, ST and OBC reservations, Shah said that they have no such agenda. He said that they have had full majority in Parliament in the last two terms, and they never initiated any steps as alleged by the Congress. He said that the BJPs priorities were construction of Ram mandir, abrogation of Article 370, mahila reservations, and continuing SC, ST and OBC reservations. He also clarified that his party is not against reservations for Muslims, but against the idea of quota on the basis of religion. He, however, reiterated that the BJP will remove four per cent reservations for Muslims after coming to power in Telangana. Exuding confidence of winning more than 10 segments in Telangana, Shah said that they will win a majority of seats in southern states. Accusing the BRS and the Congress of corruption, appeasement and dynasty politics, Shah alleged that the ruling Congress failed to implement six guarantees. Responding to the recent comments of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, Shah asserted that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) belongs to India. In a video that has gone viral, Aiyar is seen stating that the neighbouring country should be given respect as it possesses an atom bomb, adding that if a mad person came to power in Pakistan, they could use the bomb and harm India. Addressing public meetings at Chevella and Nagarkurnool, Shah said, Mani Shankar Aiyar says Pakistan has an atom bomb, so do not talk about PoK. Farooq Abdullah of the INDIA bloc says that Pakistan has an atom bomb, so respect them. I want to ask if they have an atom bomb, will you give PoK to them? As long as the BJP is in power, PoK belongs to India and we will take it. It is our right. The home minister also criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi that nobody knows if a surgical strike actually took place or not following the Pulwama attack in 2019. Shah emphasised that terrorists were killed on Pakistan soil during an operation by Indian armed forces. Why is he doubting the surgical strike and mocking it? After the attack on the country, Modi ordered surgical and air strikes on Pakistani soil. UPA government failed to do it. Now you are mocking us..., the senior BJP leader said. Alleging that the INDIA bloc is doing politics of appeasement, Shah alleged that the Congress, BRS and AIMIM are of the same kind. They all are the masters of corruption, he said and alleged design flaw in the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. It is a contractor-centric design instead of farmers. Just like the Kaleshwaram project, it is also a source of corruption. Reiterating his claims, the Union minister added that if the saffron party wins even 10 seats in the state, the 4% reservations for Muslims will be scrapped. We will not remove the SC, ST and OBC reservation. Instead, the quotas given to the Muslims will be distributed among them, Shah said, adding, Reservation will be given to the Madiga (SC) community without doing injustice to the Mala community. The BJP leader reiterated Modis allegation that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Revanth introduced the RR tax. They are turning small villages into municipalities without any infrastructure. Telanganas funds are being transferred to Delhis treasury, Shah said.

Ticket turmoil: Private bus fares surge amid poll travel rush in Telangana

HYDERABAD: As the State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh are to be held simultaneously on Monday, a surge in passenger traffic from the city was witnessed on Saturday. While passengers travelling via AP and Telangana RTC buses continued to benefit from the regular fares, those opting for private operators faced steep hikes in ticket prices, from 75% to 100%. To accommodate the influx, TSRTC deployed an additional 400 to 450 special buses on Friday and Saturday along various routes, primarily to Vijayawada and Kurnool. The buses are allocated based on passenger traffic. We are plying them to several districts like Rajahmundry, Guntur, Ongole, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam. Typically the regular number of buses to AP stands at 280, a source within RTC told TNIE . With a daily ridership of approximately 55 lakh, including services like Super Luxury, Palle Velugu, Deluxe, Express among others, the pre-election period has seen a surge to four to five lakh passengers with majority of them traveling to AP. For voters travelling to remote areas of Telangana, around 1,500 special buses have been added over the four days from JBS, Uppla, LB Nagar, MG Bus and other terminals. Those travelling to the interiors of Telangana are likely to travel on Sunday evening or Monday morning. The passengers who belong to far-off districts like Wanaparthy, Mahbubnagar, Achampet and others will travel on Sunday evening and the ones from nearby places like Warangal on Monday morning, a source said. Despite booking tickets two weeks in advance, passengers opting for private buses to AP found themselves compelled to pay exorbitant fares. The ones who tried to book RTC buses earlier for cheaper fares were left dejected by full bookings. One such passenger was Arun Teja (32), who was going to his native in West Godavaris Moghalpur mandal. Waiting for the bus at Ameerpet bus stop, the mechanical engineer told TNIE, On a regular day, I book a bus to my hometown through RTC for Rs 800. Even the private bus ticket costs Rs 1,050. However, due to the rush, I am shelling out Rs 3,000. What can I do? I want to exercise my right to vote, Teja said. S Ravi Teja, a design engineer and his friends got lucky as they managed to find reservations in an APSRTC seater bus. Traveling to his native place in Rajahmundry from SR Nagar bus stop, he told TNIE, When I checked private bus fares two weeks ago, they had shot up to Rs 2,000 when they usually are Rs 700-800. Teja believed that people had started booking the buses as soon as the election dates were announced. When asked what the trio would have done if they would not have found the bookings in the RTC, he remarked, Either we would have dropped the idea or traveled by bike as private buses ticket prices were very high. A private bus tours and travels agency at Ameerpet claimed that the prices have increased sharply between 75% and 100% as a result of huge demand. Suppose, if the price from Hyderabad to Vijayawada is Rs 500 to Rs 700 for a sleeper bus, it has gone up to Rs 1,800. For Vijayawada, if it was Rs 800 to 900 earlier, it has escalated to Rs 2,500 to 3,000. MA Gaffar, a driver of a private bus agency, told TNIE that apart from the huge demand of commuters, another reason for fare escalation is the fear of returning empty-handed due to holiday.

Nadda Says AP is Hub of All Corrupt Practices

KURNOOL: BJP national president J.P. Nadda has criticised the governance style of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and said he has imposed a personal debt burden of Rs 2.50 lakh on each individual in Andhra Pradesh. Campaigning for the BJP and its allies, Nadda addressed election meetings in Adoni and participated in a road show in Tirupati on Saturday. He pleaded for the peoples support to the BJP and its allies to ensure installation of a corruption-free government for AP. Nadda said the sand, liquor and other mafia gangs were having a free run in the state. The BJP chief praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts for national development targeting all sections of the people, under the slogan, Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He pledged the continuation of the central government's support to farmers, a yearly dole of Rs 6,000 per farmer and fair prices for agricultural produce in the coming years. Highlighting the disparity between the central governments achievements and Andhra Pradesh's slow progress, Nadda noted that the Jagan-led government failed to complete the construction of 21 lakh houses sanctioned for the underprivileged with central assistance. He accused the chief minister of merely pushing the uttuthi button without really helping the poor. Nadda promised increased solar power generation and free electricity for the underprivileged, along with a reduction in cooking gas prices. He emphasized the empowerment of women's self-help groups. In healthcare, Nadda cited the success of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, with 5 crore beneficiaries receiving free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh per year at corporate hospitals. He portrayed the opposition I.N.D.I.A alliance as a consortium of corrupt people and families and urged the voters to support the TD, BJP and Jana Sena alliance for the state's development. Nadda envisioned Tirupati as a future IT hub promising significant strides in employment opportunities. He highlighted the previous TD government's efforts in generating employment and livelihood opportunities across the Rayalaseema region, including Tirupati. Nadda accused the state administration of rampant corruption and land scams in Tirupati, hinting at the involvement of the Bhuma family. He urged the public to ensure a decisive victory for the three-party alliances candidates. The BJP chief offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala. In a surprise move, the BJP chief opted to purchase high-value Srivani tickets costing Rs 10,000 each for himself and his entourage of around 25 members, upon their arrival at the Tirupati airport on Friday, for a hassle-free darshan.

Having erred with the morphed video, Revanth is now worried: Amit Shah

Hyderabad: Union home minister Amit Shah cautioned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy that he had done a terrible thing by morphing his (Shahs) speech about reservations at a public meeting in Siddipet to send a wrong message to the people of Telangana state. Addressing a huge public meeting at Vikarabad town on Saturday, Amit Shah said Revanthgalath jagah pe haath lagaye. Police jaanch kar rahe hai.. ab dar rahe ho (Revanth you have placed your hands in a wrong place.. the police have started a probe and you are worried). The minister said that the Congress has done wrong by taking away reservations of BCs, SCs and STs and diverting them to Muslims, which was against the spirit of the constitution. Reddy was sending a false message that if BJP gets 400 Lok Sabha seats, it would change the Constitution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been in power for the last 10 years with absolute majority but has he done anything against reservations, he asked the public, who replied with a `no. Elect Konda Vishweshwar Reddy (BJP candidate from Chevella) to enable the NDA to get 400 seats and we will definitely remove reservations for Muslims and extend the same to BCs, SCs and STs, Shah said. He reminded Revanth Reddy that Modi had come to the Chief Ministers rescue by relaxing the FRBM limit and gave Rs 9,000 crore assistance. Otherwise, the state was not in a position to pay salaries to government employees. Telangana state with surplus reserves had landed in a huge debt trap. They have not undertaken any major work for the welfare of Chevella people, Shah said and added that the Congress had burdened the people with RR Tax (Revanth and Rahul Tax) and filled the AICC treasury in Delhi with the money so swindled. Stating that the Prime Minister was trying to curb all terror activities, he said that the Congress was always soft towards terrorism because of its appeasement politics. When he asked the gathering if the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya was wrong, the people responded with `Jai Sri Ram slogans. When Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra were invited for the Ram temple inauguration, they did not attend it as they were worried over their vote bank, Shah said. Saying that the Congress, AIMIM and BRS were all one and the same, he told the people that these parties can only be challenged by the BJP. He announced that the bullet train connecting Hyderabad with southern cities will have its first stop in Vikarabad town. He also said that the Madiga community would get justice and get their share of reservation among the SCs, without depriving the Mala community of its benefits. Addressing a public meeting at Wanaparthy in support of Bharat Prasad Potheganti, who is contesting for the Nagarkurnool seat, Shah said that the UPA government in its 10-year rule had spent Rs 45,000 crore for the welfare of dalits, while Modi had in 10 years spent Rs 1,95,000 crore on their uplift.

BJP: PM Modi to Stay On as Leader Despite Kejriwal's Age Limit Remarks, Affirms Shah

BJP: PM Modi to Stay On as Leader Despite Kejriwal's Age Limit Remarks, Affirms Shah Top BJP leader Amit Shah on Saturday asserted Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue to lead the country post 2024 Lok Sabha polls and hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for claiming the PM was seeking votes for making Shah his successor, citing the 75 years age 'rule'. There was nothing written in the BJP's constitution on any such age ceiling, Shah told reporters here. There was no confusion in the BJP over the matter. Shah was responding to Kejriwal's claim that Modi was asking for votes for the Union Home Minister to make him PM as the prime minister would turn 75 next year. ''I would like to tell Arvind Kejriwal and company and the whole Indi alliance, Modi becomes 75, there is no need for you to feel happy. It is not written anywhere in BJP's constitution. Modi will complete the term and will continue to lead the country. There is no confusion in BJP on this,'' Shah told reporters here. Kejriwal had charged that Modi is asking for votes for Shah. ''These people ask INDIA bloc about their (PM) face. I ask BJP who will be their PM? Modi ji is turning 75 on September 17 next year. He had made the rule that people aged 75 will be retired. They retired LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan,'' Kejriwal said. ''He (Modi) will retire next year. He is seeking votes for making Amit Shah the prime minister. Will Shah fulfill Modiji's guarantee?'' the CM, out on bail in the Delhi Excise Policy scam, asked. Further, Shah launched a scathing attack on Congress and its leaders, alleging that due to the fear of Pakistan having a nuclear bomb, the grand old party wants to give up India's rights over Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). On Saturday, Shah addressed election rallies at Vikarabad and Nagarkurnool in Telangana and later a press conference here on the last day of campaigning for the May 13 Lok Sabha polls in the state. He also said if Kejriwal thinks that Supreme Court's interim bail is a clean chit, then his understanding with regard to law is poor. The home minister also expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as the largest party in South India in terms of Lok Sabha seats. The BJP is confident of winning more than 10 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, he said. In his address at a rally at Vikarabad, Shah recalled that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had conducted nuclear tests at Pokhran on this day in 1998 and made the country a nuclear power. The Congress does not have the courage to conduct surgical strike and airstrikes, he alleged. He said PM Modi did surgical strikes and air strikes within 10 days after Pakistan terrorists attacked the country and ''finished them''. Referring to the reported comments of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar and that of National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah on Pakistan having an atom bomb, the home minister said he would like to ask Rahul Gandhi if PoK would be given to the neighbouring country because of it possessing a nuclear bomb. ''As long as BJP is there, it cannot happen'' and PoK belongs to India and we will take it, he said. ''They don't feel shame. Due to fear of an atom bomb, they want to give up our rights over PoK. But you don't worry, Modi ji is going to be Prime Minister again and Pakistan's bullets will be replied to with cannon,'' Shah said. On AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge's alleged comments as to what Telangana people have to do with Kashmir, Shah said the state's youth can give their life for Kashmir. PM Modi has ended terror and naxalism in the country, he said. Referring to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's comments on surgical strikes, he asked, ''Revanth Reddy, where did you keep your mind? You kept it in Italy?''. Reddy on Friday claimed an intelligence failure in preventing the Pulwama incident of 2019 when a terror strike on Indian troops left about 40 CRPF personnel dead. ''Modi ji tried to take political benefit from the surgical strike after Pulwama incident. My question to Modi ji is, what are you doing? Why did the Pulwama incident happen? Why did you let it happen? What are you doing about internal security? ''Why did you not use agencies like IB, RAW? It is your failure. Nobody knows if a surgical strike actually took place or not,'' Reddy had said.

AP elections 2024: Intense battle in Dhone and Kurnool

Kurnool: Fierce electoral battles are on in five constituencies in the combined Kurnool district, namely Kurnool city, Pathikonda, Srisailam, Banaganapalle and Dhone. In Dhone, part of Nandyal, an intriguing political battle is unfolding between finance minister Buggana Rajendranath of the YSR Congress and former central minister and Telugu Desam national vice president Kotla Jayasuryaprakash Reddy. Buggana is emphasizing the development initiatives at a total cost of `3,000 crore that he spearheaded in the constituency over the past five years. These helped resolve the water and infrastructure deficiencies, he claims. The minister is questioning the sudden appearance of the opposition candidate, who is allegedly fostering factionalism. Kotla Prakash Reddy contends that there have been very little of improvements in the constituency in the past five years other than some tourism-related initiatives. He is consolidating the support of his old allies and supporters, aligning with the KE and Subba Reddy groups for his electoral success. The intense electoral fight between the two candidates has enlivened the local political scenario. In Kurnool city, retired bureaucrat A Md Imtiaz is the YSRC nominee. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is personally trying to garner the support of the Muslim voters to his candidate. However, rumors spread about the absence of local legislator MA Hafeez Khan on the campaign front in the constituency this time. Instead, he was campaigning in Nellore. This raised doubts about a lack of coordination among the YSRC leaders. Nonetheless, Hafeez Khan did attend the CMs road show in the city on Thursday. The opposition candidate TG Bharath is focusing public attention on his native roots and urging voters to trust a local candidate who has remained committed to the constituency even after a defeat in the previous polls. He argues that the newly arrived candidate, his rival, may scoot from the scene if he faced defeat. In Pathikonda, sitting legislator K Sridevi faces strong opposition from KE family member KE Shyam Kumar, who suffered defeat in the last polls. The KE family is campaigning vigorously for its candidate's victory, while Sridevi faces criticism due to the actions of her supporters. Srisailam and Banaganapalle constituencies are also witnessing major electoral fights, with sitting legislators allegedly facing anti-incumbency sentiments. The opposition candidates are attempting to capitalize on this situation to garner mass support.

As per the IMD, heavy rains occurred at isolated places in the Bhadradri Kothagudem districts, while, light rains and thunderstorms were experienced in the districts of Adilabad, Khammam, Mancherial, Nagarkurnool, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rangareddy and Vikarabad. A Congress-BJP showdown for Nagarkurnool seat

Hyderabad : The Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency may not have made the headlines in the current election season as Medak, Malkajgiri, Hyderabad, Karimnagar or Nizamabad, which either have recognisable faces or have a history of electing VIP candidates, but it nevertheless is set to become a test for how voters perceive each of the three top parties in the electoral fray for polling set for May 13. The Congress fielded Mallu Ravi, a seasoned campaigner who had won in 1991 and 1998, while the BRS has taken a gamble with R.S. Praveen Kumar, who joined the party just before filing his nomination. The BJP nominated P. Bharat Prasad, son of MP P. Ramulu, who won on a BRS ticket the last time, and joined the BJP in the early stages of the campaign. The primary contest is expected to be between the Congress and the BJP. Before Ravi won for the first time as a Congress candidate from the constituency, it was Mallu Anantha Ramulu, who represented Nagarkurnool twice, winning in 1980 in 1989. It was the confidence of a certain victory from Nagarkurnool that also saw Ravi resign as the special representative of the Telangana government in New Delhi to contest the election. Having won five of the seven Assembly segments in the constituency, and the BRS getting just two, the Congress appears to have some cards in its favour. It is also betting on the fact that Ravi had come second in the 2019 elections, behind P. Ramulu, who had won on a BRS ticket. With respect to the BJP, the party is hoping that P. Ramulu will be successful shifting support base to the BJP. Initially, the BRS, which struggled after P. Ramulu, latched on to a proposal from BSPs Praveen Kumar and was willing to leave the seat to the party. This plan fell through with the BSPs leadership making it clear that it is not entering into any pre-poll alliances. This resulted in Praveen Kumar quitting the BSP and joining the BRS. Though local BRS leaders say that he is bridging the gap with the BJP in the constituency, the fight appears to be between the BJP and Congress.

NDA treating poor as untouchables, alleges Andhra Pradesh CM

VIJAYAWADA: Accusing the NDA leaders of practising untouchability against the poor, YSRC president and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy found fault with Home Minister Amit Shahs comments on the introduction of English medium education in government schools. This alliance of capitalists cannot tolerate children being taught in English in government schools. They want English for their children, but not for the poor. This is nothing but double standards. We are fighting against this ideology which is biased against the poor. This is another form of untouchability, Jagan remarked. Addressing a public meeting at Rajampet on Thursday, he said voting for TDP and its allies will result in children losing the chance of pursuing studies in English medium. A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that only double engine sarkar can ensure development of the State, he sought to know why the TDP, JSP and BJP combine, who won in 2014, could not fulfil their poll promises. He said PM Modi and Shah have failed to respond to the aspirations of the people of Andhra Pradesh on the Special Category Status. CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during a public meeting at Kalyandurg | Express Will strive to protect honour of Muslims: Jagan The BJP leaders did not make a mention of SCS, but delivered speeches to satisfy TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, foster son Pawan Kalyan (Jana Sena president), and Vadinamma (BJP AP unit chief D Purandeswari), he alleged. Stating that local leaders have been seeking the establishment of a medical college in Rajampeta, Jagan assured the people that he will take steps to establish the 18th medical college in the constituency during his second term. If you want to see the completion of Annamayya Project and Galeru Nagari canal till Railway Kodur, you should choose YSRC, he told people. Declare support for Muslim quota before PM Earlier at a public meeting in Kurnool, Jagan reiterated his commitment to protect the interests of Minorities and charged the TDP with aligning with the BJP although it is opposed to reservations based on religion. Further, he demanded Naidu to declare his support for Muslim quota while sharing the stage with PM Modi. On one hand, Naidu has aligned with the BJP, and on the other, he is wooing Muslims for votes, Jagan quipped. Asserting that the basis of giving reservation is not religion, but backwardness of Minorities, the Chief Minister said only those who are very poor in the Muslim community will be eligible for 4% reservation. I will also strive to protect the honour of Muslims on matters like CAA and NRC, he promised. He pointed out that besides giving respectable posts like Deputy Chief Minister and Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council to representatives of the Muslim community, Jagan said he has also given 4% political reservation for Muslims by allotting seven Assembly and Lok Sabha tickets to them, besides making Urdu the second official language in the State. He stressed that his government changed the course of the State by disbursing Rs 2.7 lakh crore through various DBT welfare schemes, creating 2.31 lakh government jobs, making English medium education accessible to students of poor families, empowering women and farmers, and overhauling the administration with village and ward secretariats. At Singanamala, he reiterated that schemes and reforms will continue only if YSRC is elected to power once again. Elucidating the schemes implemented by his government over the past 59 months, the Chief Minister pointed out that 99% of election promises were fulfilled, thereby bringing sanctity to the manifestos for the first time. Schemes like Amma Vodi, Vidya Deevena, Vasathi Deevena, Nadu-Nedu, digitisation of class rooms, TOEFEL training from class 3, tabs to Class 8 students, Goru Mudda and introduction of bilingual text books have revolutionised the educational system, he asserted. Pointing out that his government has economically empowered self-help groups by implementing schemes like YSR Cheyutha, Aasara, Sunna Vaddi, Kapu Nestham, EBC Nestham, he said 31 lakh house sites were distributed and 22 lakh houses were constructed. He added that the implementation of schemes like Rythu Bharosa, free crop insurance, input subsidy, nine-hour free power supply and RBKs have empowered the farmers. Jagan accused Naidu of cheating people on the promise of loan waiver to farmers and SHGs, disbursal of Rs 25,000 on the birth of a girl child, allotment of three-cent house sites to the poor, job for every household and Rs 2,000 monthly stipend for the unemployed.

Jagan Says TD-BJP Alliance Will Hurt Muslims

Kurnool/Anantapur : Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that N. Chandrababu Naidus alliance with the BJP would distance the Telugu Desam from Muslims. Chandrababu Naidu is with the BJP, which wants to remove 4 per cent Muslim reservation. At the same time, he comes up with a new drama to seek minority votes. Like a chameleon, Babu changes colour. The reservation for Muslim reservations will remain, and the YSRC stands by it, he said. The 4 per cent reservation for Muslims is not given based on religion. The reservation does not list the higher castes in the Muslim community like Pathan or Syeds. This reservation is for the backwards among the Muslims. People have to note that every religion has a BC, an OC category. It is unacceptable and morally wrong to view minorities through a discriminatory lens. These reservations will prevail at all costs, the Chief Minister asserted. Whether it is Muslim reservation, NRC, CAA, or any other sentiments of minorities, the YSRC would always stand as a steadfast pillar, supporting their dignity and honour. Schemes like Shadi Thofa (marriage assistance), declaring Urdu as a second language, the 4 per cent political reservation for minorities are there, and a minority MLA serves as the deputy chief minister in the YSRC government, he stated. I have appointed a minority leader as the vice president of the legislative council. Out of the 175 seats, 4 per cent of the seats were given to minorities as political reservations. Can Chandrababu ever say that he did any good for the minority community in his life, asked Jagan Mohan Reddy. The Chief Minister addressed YSRCs election meetings in Kalyandurg and Rajampet. In Kalyandurg, he said, Chandrababu did not bring any scheme to a poor person in his whole life. Every time he got power, the poor did not gain. Chandrababu simply looted the state wealth and shared the loot. During elections, he utilises this money to pay Rs.2,000 to Rs.4,000 per person and buys votes. I urge the people not to reject Chandrababu's cash handouts! Because that money belongs to us! However, when you vote, vote for the party that did good to you. Addressing the people in Rajampet, Jagan Mohan Reddy said, The people of AP were expecting the announcement of special category status for the state at the public meetings of the NDA. But only disappointment prevailed among those awaiting the news. The alliance leaders are silent on the state's requirements. Amit Shah visited AP for the election campaign with TD and the JSPthe three-party alliance with a feudal mindset cannot tolerate the fact that English medium is introduced to government schools. They want English for their children but not for the poor, the CM said.

Telangana: Case against Krishank Manne is frivolous, says KT Rama Rao

HYDERABAD: BRS working president KT Rama Rao claimed the case against BRS social media convener Krishank Manne was frivolous. It should not have been Krishank serving jail time, but Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for posting a fake circular, he added. Meanwhile, the hearing for his bail was deferred to Thursday. Rama Rao met the social media convener at Chanchalguda Jail on Wednesday. Addressing the media later, he said Krishank is unjustly targeted in a baseless case, enduring harassment for a week now. The chief minister, who is responsible for fabricating the circular, roams freely, while the individual who shared the original ones languishes in jail. This highlights the governments flawed practices. I challenge the chief minister: if Krishanks circular is proven false, I will accept imprisonment. Will he do the same if his circular is debunked? The former minister also criticised Revanth for acting arrogantly, fuelled by his position of power, and warned of consequences. Expressing solidarity, Rama Rao mentioned that during his meeting with Krishank, he observed the latters resilience despite the difficult situation. He demanded that the government apologise and release Krishank. He challenged Revanth to present both circulars to experts for scrutiny to determine the authentic one and the culpable party. BJP conspiring to change Constitution BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday alleged that the BJP was conspiring to change the Constitution of India. Addressing a street corner meeting at Kalwakurthy under the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency, where RS Praveen Kumar is contesting on a pink party ticket, he accused the BJP of doing politics in the name of religion and seeking votes in the name of Hindu gods.

Ill make panyam a model segment: Gouru Charitha Reddy

DP nominee Gouru Charitha Reddy has said her focus will be on combating land grabbing and addressing other perennial problems of Panyam Assembly constituency if she is elected. In an interview with K Madhu Sudhakar, Gouru Charitha Reddy asserted that her main aim is to save the people of Panyam from the corrupt practices and rowdyism of sitting YSRC MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy What are pressing problems of Panyam? The Assembly constituency comprises Orvakal, Kallur and 16 divisions of Kurnool Municipal Corporation, Gadivemula and Panyam mandals in the erstwhile undivided Kurnool district. The 16 divisions in KMC are facing drinking water crisis. The other mandals are also facing irrigation and drinking water problem. The YSRC government has neglected HNSS, Gorukallu, KC Canal, Velagamanu and other irrigation projects, resulting in several water crisis in Panyam. Large scale unemployment is also a major issue due to industrial backwardness of the constituency. What is your development agenda? I have prepared a special agenda to develop Panyam as a model constituency in the State by effectively utilising the available natural resources. I will focus on development of Panyam as a industrial hub, besides ensuring speedy completion of pending irrigation projects like Velagamanu and Alaganur in the district to provide water for two crops a year. What are your strengths to face Katasani? My strengths are TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidus leadership and general secretary Nara Lokeshs vision to develop the State. The tripartite alliance will ensure that the anti-incumbency vote does not split. The people who are vexed with the autocratic rule of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, are eager to teach him a fitting lesson in the elections. I have won the peoples trust with my commitment to develop the constituency. I will also focus development of neglected areas in Panyam to promote balanced growth. What are your winning chances? I am confident of achieving a landslide victory in the elections. I have been receiving an overwhelming response from the people during my election campaign in the constituency. The joint manifesto of the TDP-BJP-JSP combine is an instant hit among people. Moreover, my husband Gouru Venkata Reddy has contributed a lot to the development of Kurnool district in various capacities. Even I also served as an MLA. We will strive to solve the peoples problems, besides ensuring the development of the constituency on all fronts.

Heading for a photo finish in Telangana

HYDERABAD: With just five days left for all political parties to convince citizens why they deserve to represent them in Parliament, campaigning has reached a fever pitch, especially in constituencies where the contest appears to be neck-and-neck. Various internal surveys conducted by the three major parties in the fray in Telangana the Congress , BJP and BRS point to a straightforward battle between the two national parties in seven constituencies and triangular contests in five to six Lok Sabha seats. In the remaining constituencies, one party has a clear edge and is expected to win without much fuss. Considering the stakes, its hardly surprising that all the parties have pulled in their heavyweights to campaign. While the BJPs campaign is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Congress top guns like AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and its star campaigners Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi have been toiling hard. The BRS campaign is led by its supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao and former ministers KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao. Sources in both the Congress and BJP said that both the parties are gearing up for a close finish in seven constituencies, with each claiming a slight edge over the other. According to internal surveys, the margin between these two parties stands at 3% to 4% in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Malkajgiri, Chevella, Mahbubnagar, Zaheerabad and Bhongir segments. Division of votes The internal surveys point to triangular contests in Secunderabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Warangal, Peddapalli and Nagarkurnool. In such a scenario, the division of votes will play a crucial role in determining the victor. For instance, in Secunderabad, the Congress hopes to sway voters who supported the BRS in the last Assembly elections but may now favour the grand old party as it is in power in the state. Obviously the BRS is putting in all efforts to maintain its voter base. Meanwhile, the BJP is hoping to build on its traditional vote share by tapping into anti-incumbency sentiment. BJP, Congress surveys predict close contest in 7 segments in Telangana In Medak, intense competition prevails as all three parties are vying for the seat. The BRS has fielded former IAS officer P Venktram Reddy, the Congress nominated Neelam Madhu Mudiraj and the BJP picked former MLA M Raghunandan Rao. While the ruling party fields a candidate from the BC community to appeal to the majority voter base, the BJP is relying on its presence in the constituency and the charisma of Modi. However, Medak is considered a stronghold of the BRS and is represented in the Assembly by KCR and Harish Rao. Changing scenarios In Karimnagar, BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay held the edge till about a fortnight ago, but the situation now appears to have changed with the Congress fielding V Rajender Rao. The BRS candidate is B Vinod Kumar. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar is working hard on behalf of the party to win the Karimnagar seat and prove his mettle. The BRS is doing all it can to win the seat since party working president KT Rama Rao represents Sircilla, which is part of the Lok Sabha seat, in the Assembly. Likewise, Warangal and Nagarkurnool constituencies are also expected to see a photo finish. In Warangal, Sudheer Kumar (BRS), Kadiyam Kavya (Congress) and Aroori Ramesh (BJP) are in the fray, while former IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar (BRS), former MP Mallu Ravi (Congress) and sitting MP P Ramulus son P Bharat (BJP) are facing off in Nagarkurnool. In Peddapalli too, a triangular contest is expected between BJPs Gomasa Srinivas, Koppula Eswar of the BRS and Congress Gaddam Vamshi Krishna, who is the son of MLA G Vivek Venkataswamy. Though it was initially considered a battle between the Congress and BRS candidates, the scenario changed after sitting MP B Venkatesh Netha joined the saffron party from the Congress. In February this year, Venkatesh had shifted his loyalties from the BRS to the Congress.
